This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Lidl Lupilu Nappies with their DC.

The following items were tested:
Size 1 Newborn Nappies 24 pack x 3
Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies 44 pack x 2
Size 3 Midi (4-9kg) 56 pack x 1
Size 4 Maxi (7-18kg) 50 pack x 1
Size 4+ Maxi Plus (9-20kg) 44 pack x 1
Size 5+ Junior Plus (13-27kg) 36 pack x 1
Size 6+ Extra Large Plus (16+kg) 26 pack x 1

Here’s what Lidl have to say about the product: "Lidl knows the most important things when choosing a nappy are dryness, protection and comfort. That's why our nappies now have the magical absorbing tubes so we can ensure ultimate dryness and leakage protection, and last year Mumsnetters asked for a wetness indicator on size 1 Newborn Nappies, so we added one!

There is no need to pay a premium price for a premium nappy, our prices are low but our quality is high. Our nappies are dermatologically tested, latex free, skin-friendly and independently tested. Protecting the environment is also important, therefore the padding used is from sustainably managed forests. The slim design means less materials, less packaging and less energy, helping to minimise our carbon footprint.”

Testers - Below are some questions we’d like you to answer, but feel free to add any other comments you may have:

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

All testers who leave their feedback on site and complete the short survey that we sent to you will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note: the winner will be sent 4x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
She is 2 and we tested size 5.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
They are lovely and soft, good size for my DD and had a funky pattern

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    Yes definitely!

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I already have!

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? We had a few leaks overnight but it was a 12hr period so I doubt many brands could contain that, we previously used Pampers or Asda and we had leaks there too. I think they're a great nappy, well worth the trip to Lidl to stock up!

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Age 2.5. I asked for 5+, but was send a size 5 package marked 5+ on a sticker.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I thought they were smaller than the 5+ I usually get him. He is at the lower end of the weight range, I just like a bigger nappy as easier to get on him, he is such a squirmer.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, they are just as good as his usual nappies.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Lidl nappies are better than aldi nappies for leaks.... I usually get a couple of leaks per month with aldi nappies, but we had none with the Lidl ones. Perhaps because the size was actually a better fit!

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 9 months - 4+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Overall we loved the nappies - they are soft, absorbent, saw my heavywetter all the way through the night without fail, good containment, easy to put on and take off, and my husband particularly liked the front/back illustrations. No complaints at all.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Absolutely, with all the above plus points they are also great value, what's not to like!! 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes absolutely, we'd even go to Lidl especially
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? Better than many brands with absorption (have seen my lo through the night more reliably than pampers) and as good as other brands for containment
JanuarySkies · 08/05/2018 16:53
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? They were about 14 months and we used size 4+

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
My overall impression of the nappies was good - they didn't leak at night or when in the car and seemed comfortable for our child. My husband like the fact it was so easy to know the front from the back - especially when changing a nappy in a hurry.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes definitely - although price dependent

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes i would, although again it would also depend on the price. They're better than some other brands we've tried.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? Much better compared to some of the large brands especially during the night. I find for example Pampers leak at night, also they came up a good size, some other brands we've tried have come up small
Mummy39075 · 08/05/2018 20:09
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
My little one is 18 months and in size 5 nappies.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I thought the nappies were strong, the tabs didn't come off easily like some brands. They didn't leak and seemed to be comfortable.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    Yes.
4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. They are excellent value for money. Much better than leading brands.

  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?
Just as good for a fraction of the price. We have definitely converted.

Thank you for the opportunity to test them.

iamcalledemma · 08/05/2018 21:19
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My son is 15 months and we tested size 4+.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They were very slim and I doubted their ability to stand up to the overnight wee test but they did very well, we didn't experience any leaks and they fitted well. I liked the fact that they were less bulky than our normal nappies, better for putting in a bag. Overall very impressed.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes, definitely.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I don't shop in Lidl very often but would pick up a pack if I was in store.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Very good, no leakage at all.

PurpleTygrrr · 08/05/2018 21:52
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My DD is 3 months and in size 2.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They were a generous size and no leakages at all! If anything they were a bit too big compared to other size 2 nappies so I probably needed the size 1s despite DD being size 2 in pampers etc.

My only negative points would be that I felt that I could smell the wee a bit more than when she is in other nappies and the wetness indicator wasn't as clear as other brands,

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes- very absorbent and good value for money!

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Comparable to pampers and Aldi in my opinion!

GrumpySusan · 09/05/2018 10:18
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
    8 months, I tested size 4

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
A good impression, they were absorbent enough for evening use and much better than the previous range. The leg cuffs used to be so rough they'd leave marks but the new range are lovely and soft. I didn't notice a wetness indicator so if there is one it could be clearer.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Absolutely, such value for money if you're on a budget and comparable to branded.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, and I have. So much easier to be able to do all shopping in one place.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? They're great for keeping dry and no leaks. I was using pampers but they leaked if I didn't change DD immediately and were costing a fortune to boot.
mumsbe · 09/05/2018 14:48
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
    Size 6 age 5

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I really liked the way they feel like real pants almost like material. There is loads of give and the pants go around the legs so they dont stick up the childs bum causing leaks.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes defiantly my son is autistic and has a learning difficulty so he is behind with potty training. These are much nicer than sticking him in a nappy at his age and gets him used to propper pant.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would buy in the future these are strong pants so he cant rip the sides himself and feel like real pants. They fit perfectly and no leaks.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

These are great and fit perfect around the legs its difficult to find decent pull ups for older children. I would suggest you make these in bigger sizes also because some children with disabilities take a bit longer to toilet train. These are perfect for my little boy and gets him used to proper pants. The proper disability nappies or products can be very expensive and sometimes look horrible and im guessing they are not too comfortable either.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 3 months old size 3
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Really Liked them, very soft and kept her dry. The usual explosions shot through the top but I am yet to try a nappy that this doesn’t happen with which I don’t think exists:-)
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes definitely, great value and quality 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes definitely
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? As good as the top brand, of not better! I am converted !
HappyPumpkin81 · 09/05/2018 21:21

My little girl was 4/5 months when we tested these and we used size 3. I liked that these nappies seemed a bit roomier and stretchier than the brand of nappies she was wearing at the time. My little girl has a very long skinny build and I find it hard to find nappies that will stretch up and over her hips without being too bulky between her legs. I found by wearing these she was able to stay in size 3 longer than she would have in her current brand.
Overall I liked these nappies, I enjoyed the different cartoons on the front and I would amuse myself trying to guess if the nappy I pulled out of the pack would have an elephant or a rainbow on it (this is the extent of humour and amusement in my life at the moment!). I found sometimes that I could smell her urine when she had only been wearing the nappy for a short time (30mins or so). I didn't mind this during the daytime as it would prompt me to change her but at night when she was sleeping and I didn't want to change her it made me feel a little bit uncomfortable. Having said that the nappies absorbed all the wetness and she never had a rash.
i would probably recommend these nappies and I have bought more myself. My local Lidl is not very convenient to get to however and I'm not sure I would make a special trip just to buy nappies.
I would say these nappies are on a par with the other brand we have used. Initially I was impressed with the poo catching capacity of these but we have subsequently had some amazing explosive leakage so unfortunately I can't say they are better. There doesn't seem to be a nappy yet that can cope with a breastfed baby's exploding gas powered eruptions!

CorporeSarnie · 10/05/2018 16:19
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
3.5 and we tried the 5+ for overnight use as no nappies for daytime now.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
Liked the design and the lack of bulk, seemingly good fit, but disliked the unfortunate leaks. We discontinued use after three nights and three leaky nappies as this was costing too much laundry! I've donated the spares to our daycare provider.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
It would depend. If their child was considerably fatter than mine, possibly; as the fit on my tall thin child may have been the problem.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Probably not unless we were only near a Lidl somewhere and had forgotten or run out before an overnight stay. We are nearing the end of nappy use now so quality/fit/no leaks is more important now than price - it costs more to wash bedclothes three times a week than it does to buy some premium nappies (but we typically use supermarket ones).

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? Very poor. Leaks put me off ever buying or using these again.
strugglingmuma · 10/05/2018 19:19
  1. 20 months size 5
  2. We loves them they fitted well with no leaks on an active little boy
  3. Yes certainly 4)yes a quality nappy at a reasonable price,
  4. I have mainly used Aldi nappies and the are certainly as good as these and don't leak and fit well. So much better then pampers and Tesco which have a poor fit and leak
BingBongBingBong · 10/05/2018 19:34

1) How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
She is 2.5yr and we used 5+

2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
They were cute - my daughter loved the animal pictures on them, quite thin and overall good

3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes

4)Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would, they’re good, no leaks even overnight and not bulky at all.

5) How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?
As good as my favourite brands (Aldi and Pampers mainly)

Kidssendingmenuts · 10/05/2018 20:40
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My daughter is 4 and we used 6 plus for night times
2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They were nice and soft inside and not crinkly like some nappies. They fit really well and looked really comfy. The only thing I didn't like about them is that you didn't know which was the front and which was the back and there was no indication on them saying so like some nappies.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Definitely!

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would buy again as long as they changed the design on the outer by saying which was the back and which was the front. Also the price from Lidl is excellent.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

We had no leakages and my daughter as dry every morning. They compared well to other brands I have tried.

foxessocks · 10/05/2018 21:46

My son is 20 months and I tested size 5+
Good value for money and they fitted really well
Yes I would
Yes I would
I thought they were just as good if not better

SazCat · 10/05/2018 22:03
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
12 months old and I tested size 4.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I liked them, good absorbency, felt soft and comfy. Nothing to dislike.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    Yes definitely.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would buy them.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? We had a few leaks, but these were 'explosive poos' that have always leaked in every brand I've tried so no worse.
Clarabell100 · 10/05/2018 22:39

1) How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
My DD is 16 months and we requested size 4+ but were sent size 4 (with a size 4+ sticker over them but they were definitely a bit smaller than usual 4+)

2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

As others have said they were very thin. I was worried they wouldnt be up to the job but somehow they were. They also looked nice, lovely colorful design. Only bad point for me was I felt like the smell was quite strong when DD was wet. Certainly stronger than other brands I’ve tried.

3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes, already have done.

4)Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

I’d definitely buy them if I was in Lidl. The quality is great for the price.

5) How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

On par with the other brands I’ve used.

Kitsandkids · 10/05/2018 23:08
  1. My baby was 10 months when we tested these and we tried the size 4 nappies.
  1. The nappies seemed thin and soft. They held all wee, even overnight, and we only had one poo leakage. I liked the pictures on them but I think it could have been clearer which side was front and which one back - the picture on both sides was the same but you saw the animal's face on the front. In dark conditions you really had to peer at this to see if you had the nappy the right way round. Also, I didn't see a wetness indicator, so if there was one it could be clearer.
  1. Yes. I would recommend these nappies.
  1. I would buy them again but I don't live that near a Lidl and I don't drive.
  1. I generally use Pampers and these worked just as well as Pampers nappies.
tissuesosoft · 11/05/2018 06:06
  1. DD is 2 years and 3 months, we used size 6 nappies
  2. They were great! DD could easily pull them down for using the potty, they didn’t leak, the bottom side didn’t move around when she was, they were soft and looked comfortable. DD was in hospital for half the trial and they were fantastic and so easy to use, could change her quickly, she could sit in her nappy (boiling hot room) and wasn’t trying to pull it off- usually she does with regular nappies and she’s feeling hot.
  3. I would definitely recommend them to a friend, the majority of my friends have similar aged toddlers.
  4. I would definitely use again, I hadn’t considered Lidl nappies before. Nor tried pull ups and these seem to be completely fit for purpose.!
  5. I haven’t tried pull ups before. But have tried nappies from Sainsbury’s, Tesco and ASDA. The Lidl nappies are definitely soft and dryer than the Sainsbury’s and ASDA ones!
Cityzen74 · 11/05/2018 06:20

  1. My DS is 7 months and we tested size 3 nappies.

  2. Overall I liked the nappies. I thought the pictures on them were really cute and I loved the way you could tell which was front and back because on the front you could see the faces of the animals and on the back you could see their backs. The packaging was attractive too. The nappies fit my DS well and he seemed comfortable in them. I would have liked a wetness indicator - this would have made me like them more.

  3. I think I would recommend these to a friend if they asked.

  4. If I was in Lidl and needed nappies I would probably pick up a packet.

  5. We had a couple of overnight leaks with these nappies which doesn’t happen so much with other nappies (but it has happened - I think my DS wees an awful lot Grin). I usually buy pampers because I like the mesh inside the nappy as I think this makes it really absorbent so I think if these nappies had that I would definitely buy them over other brands. I have tried Tesco and Aldi nappies which I also liked and I would say these Lidl nappies are definitely on a par or perhaps better than these brands with dryness and leakage issues.

We have enjoyed testing these nappies - thanks for sending them!

NeedSleepNow · 11/05/2018 10:05
  1. My son is 15 months and I tested size 4 nappues
  1. I liked the nappies, they weren't too bulky, were a lot softer than some of the other brands I've tried and provided a good fit. There wasn't anything I disliked
  1. Yes I would recommend them
  1. Yes I will definitely start buying them as our main brand as they worked well and are great value for
  1. The absorbancy was good and we didn't get any leaks which we did with other brands, particularly at night
boatyroo · 11/05/2018 20:10
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 23 months, size 5+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? They were extremely soft and seemed better quality than many supermarket nappies we've tried in the past. I didn't notice any difference in performance to usual (Pampers).
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes I would 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes if I was going to Lidl. Unfortunately there isn't one nearby to me, but I have visited before when travelling so would get some if I was there.
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? No noticeable difference as far as I could tell. They stayed dry and leak free.
Battenburg1978 · 11/05/2018 20:44
  1. My DD is 16 months and I asked for size 4+, but receieved a package marked 4 with a sticker over it saying 4+ So I'm not sure which was the correct size - in any case I felt the nappies we received were a good fit for DD.

  2. I'm now a massive fan of Lidl's Lupilu nappies - I think they're fantastic and I cannot believe I wasted so much money buying pampers/other more expensive supermarket brands for so long! The Lupilu nappies are nice and slim for under clothing yet very absorbant - I've had no issues with any leaks/escaping poo etc and found the nappies stretchy, they are a nice shape (very similar to pampers in shape I felt), looked like they were comfortable on DD (especially under jeans etc) and easy to put on. Love the designs too.

I've since purchased a pack of the Lupilu nappies currently in store and noted that these are slightly different (they don't have the absorbant 'tubes' and feel less stretchy) but TBH they are also excellent in my view. One thing I prefer about the Lupilu nappies I bought is that the fastening tabs are green so you can easily see which is front and back of the nappy.

  1. I would definitely (and have already) recommend Lupilu nappies and other Lidl products. They are amazing value for money. I paid under £5 for a large box of nappies (84 nappies I think) which is great as I'm on a tight budget. If you are on a tight budget like me, or just want to save some money, definitely go to Lidl for nappies! (And other shopping!)

  2. Yes I would buy Lupilu nappies and I have already done so :)

  3. i think that Lidl's Lupilu nappies compare very favourably with other brands I have tried - I haven't experienced any leaks (although my DD is not prone to leaky nappies) and I also love that the nappy is slim fitting and does not get too bulky when wet.

Well done Lidl - these nappies are great!

ThePug · 11/05/2018 20:51
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? My son was just turned 2 when we trialled these. We requested size 4+ and the packet had sticker saying 4+, but the nappies themselves said 4 so I'm not sure which they actually were
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? They seemed very thin out of the packet, so I was hesitant to use them overnight of for long periods. We never had any leaks though so they performed well.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes if I was shopping at Lidl
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? No issues with dryness or leakage. We use Aldi Mamia normally and these seemed just as good.

My son liked the monkeys on the nappies!
