NOW CLOSED

This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Lidl Lupilu Nappies with their DC.

The following items were tested:
Size 1 Newborn Nappies 24 pack x 3
Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies 44 pack x 2
Size 3 Midi (4-9kg) 56 pack x 1
Size 4 Maxi (7-18kg) 50 pack x 1
Size 4+ Maxi Plus (9-20kg) 44 pack x 1
Size 5+ Junior Plus (13-27kg) 36 pack x 1
Size 6+ Extra Large Plus (16+kg) 26 pack x 1

Here’s what Lidl have to say about the product: "Lidl knows the most important things when choosing a nappy are dryness, protection and comfort. That's why our nappies now have the magical absorbing tubes so we can ensure ultimate dryness and leakage protection, and last year Mumsnetters asked for a wetness indicator on size 1 Newborn Nappies, so we added one!

There is no need to pay a premium price for a premium nappy, our prices are low but our quality is high. Our nappies are dermatologically tested, latex free, skin-friendly and independently tested. Protecting the environment is also important, therefore the padding used is from sustainably managed forests. The slim design means less materials, less packaging and less energy, helping to minimise our carbon footprint.”

Testers - Below are some questions we’d like you to answer, but feel free to add any other comments you may have:

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

All testers who leave their feedback on site and complete the short survey that we sent to you will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note: the winner will be sent 4x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

  1. 10 months old, we tested the 4+ nappies
  2. I liked the soft feel of the nappies and the cute designs, they looked like more expensive nappies. Unfortunately they didn't keep my little boy dry for long at all and irritated his skin at the front.
  3. I would recommend them to try, they didn't suit us but they may work well for others and for the price it's worth a try.
  4. i doubt I would, I could only get a couple of hours of dryness which makes them unsuitable for overnight and also isn't very cost effective.
  5. unfortunately i found them to be much poorer in terms of dryness

I really wanted to like these nappies, we've tried lots of brands and so far only pampers keep my little boy dry, particularly overnight. They looked really good quality and I'm sure they will work really well for lots of babies but unfortunately not for us.

HeyDolly · 05/05/2018 13:17

How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? Size 5 and DD is 20 months old.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I’ve tested them before and really didn’t like them then - they were thin, stiff, had a strange strong smell and kept leaking. I don’t know if they’ve changed the way they’re made but I liked them this time round. No leaks and no weird smell and they were softer.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would if I were passing a Lidl. I don’t do my food shopping there so I wouldn’t specifically go out of my way to buy them.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

In the past, awful. They leaked terribly. Much better now with only one leak. I don’t get any at all with Pampers though.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

She is 18 months and I used size 5.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

First impression was that they felt good quality with a kind of waxy coating, thin but absorbent. Nice rainbow colours, good sticky tabs, great nappies overall.
They didn’t irritate my baby’s tummy which others have done and there were no leaks. One time she was a bit sore but that maybe could have happened with pampers which I normally use.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

I don’t tend to shop at Lidl but I’d buy some if I was in there definitely. Because I assume they’re cheaper than pampers but just as good.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

I started on Tesco and my dd got very sore. I wouldn’t use them again. She was a tiny bit sore once or twice with lupilu nappies but that is the same as pampers which we normally use.
She used to leak in smaller pampers nappies but that improved with going to a bigger size. No leaks with the Lidl nappies at all.
She also wears Sainsbury’s nappies at my mum’s house and they seem ok but a bit thicker; the lupilu ones are thinner but effective.

Depending on price compared to pampers/offers it would maybe be worth doing a special trip to Lidl to get some.

  1. My daughter was 10 months when we tested size 4
  2. Very good overall impression. Liked that they were soft and not too bulky. Previously tried a couple of cheaper brands and disliked the hard paper like texture compared to pampers but these are much nicer. Big sister liked the cute animal print!
  3. Yes I’d definitely recommend the quality pleasantly surprised me.
  4. We have switched for daytime use
  5. I found these far better than any of the other supermarket brand nappies I have tried. I think the quality is very close to pampers. I feel that the absorbency is slightly inferior and in the morning skin is damp, although no leaks. For this reason I’ll stick with pampers overnight but am very pleased with daytime use. At far less than half the price we are making a good saving
Rogue1234 · 05/05/2018 15:15
  1. DS is a big 4 month old and we used size 3 nappies.
  2. They were great overnight and lasted 10+ hours without leaking, but they smelt very strongly of chemicals when they were wet.
  3. Yes, and I have done.
  4. Yes, but only overnight as they smell too strong for daytime use.
  5. We've tried Pampers, Aldi, ASDA, Co-op disposables and cloth nappies and they are better than the other disposables we've tried - they leak much less with wet nappies. They can't stand up to cloth nappies for containing poo but you don't have to wash them afterwards!
Fruitdrop84 · 05/05/2018 20:55
  1. We used size 5+ and my daughter is 16 months.
  2. they were great for absorption. I had no problems.
  3. Yes definitely. I use them now.
  4. I have been converted lol.
  5. I wouldn't know the difference except in price.
Amaksy · 05/05/2018 23:14
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? My LO aged 2, size 5 nappies
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? Great new design, looked clean and simple. What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Liked that my LO was still dry after wearing it and it had a great hold.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes I will- premium nappies at an affordable price. Great quality nappies that can match the leading brands. 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would one less thing to worry about in terms of cost. A great swap to be honest, just wish they rewarded loyal shoppers.
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? It comes in par or even better than some brands we have tried and no reaction to my LO skin as he’s got sensitive skin.
EsmeeMerlin · 06/05/2018 09:21

My son is 9 weeks old and tested size 2.

I liked the nappies, they did the job well and seemed comfortable enough and are good value for money. The sizing was pretty small however.

Yes I would recommend them.

While I liked them, I would stick to the aldi nappies we buy, they are softer and seem better for my son. However if I could not get to a Aldi, then I would go to Lidl

They were just as good as other brands of nappies, perhaps not as soft as others.

sonydalia · 06/05/2018 12:01
  1. My baby was 10 month 0ld and I used size 4 (50 pack x 1, Maxi ) which was perfectly fit for my baby.
  1. It looks thin and weightless which is very good and comfortable . It lasted longer than average. I didn't notice any leakage and red spot during the using period of this nappy which is really impressive. And even during changing time , I saw it was dry which I really like.

My only concern is about the out look of this nappy and the wetness indicator. If they improve the design and make it bit more colourful , then I think it would be perfectly fitted for babies and would make all babies happy and excited to use it and if they also provide a wetness indicator there, then I think It would make this brand perfect.

  1. I would absolutely recommend this nappy to all of my friends and family.
  1. Definitely I would buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in future. Though I used to buy other brand, but after using this nappy , it changed my mind . I am really satisfied using this for my baby. Its not only better by quality but also better than other brand by price and quantity of nappies in a pack. Its really a good quality product in good value which is really highly appreciable and recommendable.
  1. During the using period of this nappy, I never saw any leakage, streakiness, dryness or over weighted which usually I had to face very often for using other branded nappy. So I was really happy and satisfied for this reason
Cheekyandfreaky · 06/05/2018 13:38
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? My daughter was 4-5 months at the time of testing and she was in size 3 nappies.
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? They were good. I liked the design, fit and absorbency. I felt they weren’t the softest though and my little one needed nappy cream whilst wearing them.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes they’re good value but I’d mention the need for nappy cream. 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would, they’re great value.
  4. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? They stand up to the competition well.
CountessOfStrathearn · 06/05/2018 13:48

20 months, size 5

2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

Felt nice, not too bulky. Most importantly no leakages.

3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes.

4)Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?*

Good quality and guessing they would be cheaper than our usual (albeit own brand) nappies

5) How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Definitely comparable, no problem there.

goldenretriever1978 · 06/05/2018 14:49
  1. My son is 20 months and I tested size 4.
  1. I was impressed by the nappies. I liked that they were soft and absorbent. There was nothing thatI disliked.
  1. Yes, I would recommend them.
  1. I will likely buy them again.
  1. They compare favourably. I was surprised as LIDL nappies uses to be horribly hard and unyielding so my opinion has really changed for the better.
StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 06/05/2018 17:10
  1. DS is nearly 2 and we tested suze 6+
  2. Overall impression - really liked them. Soft, strong tabs to close the nappy, no leaks. Liked that DS couldn't easily undo his nappy himself, although sometimes it was a challenge for me.
  3. I'd recommend these.
  4. If buy them. I might stick with pampers for overnight, but for daytime use I'd be more than happy with Lidl nappies.
  5. Almost as good as pampers but better value for money.
Strawberry2017 · 06/05/2018 18:58
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
Daughter is 4.5months old and we tested size 3 nappies.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
Very happy with them. Good quality nappies, price is great. Nice designs on the nappies. Thin but effective - no leaks. Nice and soft.
Didn’t understand anything on the pack- no English writing, would have liked to be able to read the features.
Also I would like a wetness indicator on all size nappies not just the first 2 sizes.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    100%- nothing not to like.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes- see answer 2

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? One of the best I’ve tried. Will be buying again.
WhiskyIrnBru · 06/05/2018 19:54

1) How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Our baby was 3 months when we started using them. We were sent size 3 nappies. Originally thought they would be too big, as in other brands she was a size 2. But they fit perfectly.

2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

My overall impression was good. They had a nice colourful design. Very thin though, so I did wonder about absorbance. They seemed soft and just as good as any big brand nappies I'd tried. I was very pleased with how these nappies held up. They absorbed very well. Normally my LO wakes at the slightest hint of damp. But I felt she slept longer because she felt drier. (altho this isn't scientific proof!). Had no accidents with the nappies. Stayed on well. Even daddy, who is notorious for leaving the 'frills' round the legs tucked in and making them leak, got to grips with these.

3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes. I have already told my best friend who has a 7 month old about the product test.

4)Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Most definitely. I'd make a point of picking them up when I shop in Lidl.

5) How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms leakage?

They were brilliant. I'd say just as good if not better than the brand I use at the moment (Pampers) they didn't get as gel like and squishy as the pampers do when wet.

monkeyted · 06/05/2018 20:26
  1. 10 months old and used size 4
  1. I liked that they are soft, slim and lightweight. The least bulky of all the supermarket own brands that we have tried. They fit DD well and don't leak. Cost of nappies is also important to me - Pampers are just too expensive so we use supermarket brands - and having been into Lidl since testing them I've found they are a good price.
  1. Yes I would recommend them
  1. Yes would buy again, and indeed have brought another couple of packs since. I don't shop in Lidl but now go in especially when I'm passing to pick up nappies.
  1. Comparable to other supermarket brands thats we usually use in terms of dryness. Better than the Aldi ones we sometimes use in terms of leakage - we didn't have any leakage with Lupilu.

I tried Lidl nappies previously and didn't find them very good so had stopped buying them. Have done a complete u-turn since testing these Lupilu ones however and they are now my favourite brand!

PinkSnowAndStars · 07/05/2018 00:57
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Baby was 3 weeks old when we tested these and we tested size 1.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked how they didn’t leak, how they looked and felt when fresh on. I didn’t like how rigid they seemed to go when the baby had wee’d.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes - good value and a good quality product.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes - I would try them in a larger size and see how I got on with them.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Fab - they didn’t leak at all, and the baby still felt dry even when the nappy was full!

MaverickSnoopy · 07/05/2018 15:46
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
My daughter is 22 months and used size 4 nappies.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
Loved them. Found them really long lasting and they had a very sensible design.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes. I actually did and she's also doing the same trial! She loved them too.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I have now switched to these.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? So much better although Aldi who I previously used, comes close. I have just finished a Pamper product trial for their pull ups and rated them really badly. These ones are SO much better - they are much more absorbent and the design is much more sensible.
Pumble · 07/05/2018 19:41

1 my DS is 2 1/2 and we tried size 6. He’s out of nappies in the day so we only used them at night.

2 they didn’t leak at all overnight which I was impressed with but I didn’t think the dryness was brilliant-his skin was often wet in the morning even if he hadn’t weed much.

  1. I would possibly buy them again but am unsure because of the damp skin
  1. I thought they were excellent compared to others in terms of leaking but dryness not as good.

I was impressed my son didn’t have an allergic reaction because he has had a number of issues with other nappies.

Plantpot1983 · 07/05/2018 19:54

I tested the nappies on DD 2.5 and used size 5.

They soft, seemed really comfortable. The nappies didn't leak even over night and for well. The only minor issue was that I found the sides hard to test so taking hem off was sometimes a bit difficult.

I would recommend them to a friend and would buy them again. They're good value money, and good nappies.

In terms of dryness and leakage they were good, on par with all other brands I use (supermarket and pampers/Huggies)

Bravouniformmike · 07/05/2018 20:14

Read this thread and am now converted to these Lidl nappies! They are better than pampers and even Aldi which I was using before . So soft and don’t leak. Very thin but absorb great and aren’t all spongey when full, unlike pampers.
I pop in to Lidl especially to stock up on nappies and will probably try the other lupilu stuff too!

rachaelsit · 07/05/2018 21:12

How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
18 months size 5.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Good nice and thin, they did sack when very wet and the gel moved around which I didn’t like.
  2. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes for a child over one who goes through fewer, they are good value 4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes because they are good value and do the job
  3. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage? As above they went saggy and bobbled with gel inside and they didn’t stay as dry as pampers I didn’t think.
scrivette · 07/05/2018 22:13
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Baby is 5 months and I used size 3.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was very impressed. I liked how soft they were and how thin, both handy for transporting and must be more comfortable.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes and have done so.

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I have already switched from my previous brand.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

They are as good as the Aldi ones I used previously.

mrsoutnumbered · 08/05/2018 05:17
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

2, size 5+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They have the look and feel of pampers. First impressions good, I was surprised how soft they are.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably not as they are a bit too small for my child compared to current brand. I found this with pampers too. The only ones that seem to fit my child well are Sainsburys Little Ones

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Just as good

Candyperfumegirl · 08/05/2018 10:26

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

4)*Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, if I was in lidl I would certainly pick up a pack or two.

  1. How would you compare the Lidl Lupilu Nappies to other brands that you have tried in terms of dryness and leakage?

Excellent & up there with the big brands. No leaks, soft & comfortable. Kept my son dry throughout the night.
