"As well as being available in a variety of finishes, including matt, mid-sheen and gloss, the Valspar unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see - that's 2.2 million shades! Choose a colour that's personal to you and your family - be it the shade of a festive Christmas bauble, or a favourite ornament, simply take the item to your local B&Q and its exact colour can be scanned and recreated in paint form.”

Testers, answer the below questions, but also feel free to share any other comments you have on your experience:
1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
2. Which room did you decorate and why?
3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also share your before and after photos of your project on this thread and complete the feedback survey when we email this to you.

All who complete the required feedback by the 11th April will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
I used the chip rack. DD had great fun in picking out hideous combinations of colours. The paint did seem to go on a bit darker than I expected, but it's still dark so it might be lighter tomorrow. The service was brilliant. With two children in tow, the staff engaged so well with them so I could get on with the serious work. Then of course we all got to jump around like the pot of paint. Good advice on how to apply the paint and what was the best product to use.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
The hallway. As a small and rather dark room I painted it white. However it developed a tide mark of a rather unpleasant orange/brown due to the children and dog. Decided to freshen up and go darker.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
DH did the application as I wasn't very well. He said that the pain went on really well and covered well. He especially liked the engineering of the tin and how simple it was to open. Paint didn't splatter and the brushea and roller were a good quality.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I definitely liked the product and I'm looking forward to seeing the results in the morning. Although ots more expensive than I would normally use, as the paint covers well it probably doesn't cost too mush more than other brands.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received? I chose from the chip rack but stuck to as close to white as possible as didn't want to change the colour of the room. I loved the different names for white though so experimented with that too.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why? I repainted part of the master bedroom as it looked tired and wanted to cover up the stains on the wall.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality. This was an enjoyable shopping trip - very different to what i'm used to so didn't know what to expect. The assistants were very helpful and it seemed to be a new product in the market so was impressed with the knowledge.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would now I've got a set of brushes to tackle the next paint project. Didn't have enough for the room so will go back for more (pic just to show the stains before and after)

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I had an idea of the colour I wanted and spent about 20 minutes looking at the fantastic range of 2,000 colour options on the chip rack before choosing Midnight Serenade . I liked that the chip rack is illuminated by daylight lighting so that you can be confident that the colour you've chosen will be true when you apply it at home. I was really impressed with the colour quality of this product. It looks exactly the same on the wall as it did on the chip rack. The service in store was a usual B&Q experience - staff seem to be too busy doing other things to attend to you right away but when you manage to get their full attention they are friendly and helpful.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I painted my son's old room as he has moved out into his own flat and we're finally getting to have the big bedroom! Since he moved out, it had become a bit of a junk room as we couldn't afford to redecorate until getting this wonderful opportunity (thanks Valspar and MN). This has meant we now have the relaxing, fresh bedroom we've wanted for a long time. Not completely finished due to work commitments but getting there.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

This paint was a joy to use. The first thing I noticed was the lack of odour, followed by the lack of spatter. None at all, which was fantastic. I was applying to anaglypta which had previously been painted over with a metallic paint so thought it might take several coats to cover but it only took one. It went on like a dream, using both the roller and the brushes. I was very impressed by the quality of this product.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I already am! The product went so far that I have enough left to paint a wall in the other bedroom so will have two rooms I can be proud of when people visit my home. I have already been telling friends, family, customers and colleagues about how delighted I am with Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint. The colour accuracy, the coverage and the 2 million colour options mean I'm very likely to use this product again (I've been studying the chip rack again for inspiration)

Thank you for letting me try this product. I can now look forward to going to bed in the peaceful, contemporary bedroom that I deserve.

Now, if you'd be so kind, I have a kitchen needing the Valspar touch....

😁

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
We chose from the colour rack, 'Mermaids song'

Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
Yes, it is a gorgeous turquoise colour, my daughter chose it. Service was fine

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
My daughters room, she has been desperate to get rid of the baby pink that has been up for 4 years.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Great application and coverage, did not need endless coats, covered the pink excellently. Very low odour compared to B&Q colors range.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, it was low splatter, so much less mess, and the application made it feel quicker than using other brands, we painted our hallway late last year and it felt like it took forever, it also peeled lots when we removed masking tape, whereas Valspar did not.
Deckthehallswithjammydodgers · 12/04/2017 11:46

Sorry for the late reply ended up needing surgery so have only just painted the living room . The paint texture and thickness is great the colour is so different to what we picked though and are still deciding whether to repaint another colour . Most of our room is now white with a feature wall we chose a grey colour which looks really blue at the minute and I'm just not sold . Going to give it a few days too decide whether to repaint or keep.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour?
I had looked through the catalogue, then browsed in store, with a grey in mind Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? I chose from the Valspar colour bar and used the three light boxes to help confirm my decision Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received? Honestly, I've never been so engaged when buying paint - Karl (see picture attached) took his time ti guide me through the colour bar and suggest what colour may be best, as he asked where I was using it and if there was natural daylight or not. Once chosen, he took time to explain to me, my toddler and Mum (both eating Haribo in the picture attached!) how the colour would be mixed and then showed us the end product - it matched the shade card.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
We decided to re-decorate the cloakroom, as after talking with Karl, we realised that the paint we were taking home would cover the whole room, rather than a wall, giving us a greater experience of Valspar.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Really easy to use, great size can, great application.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
YES! It was easy to use, the colour choice is amazing and the in-store experience truly fabulous

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I requested a colour match to some bedding I had previously purchased with the intention of using when we eventually decorated our master bedroom. I have to say I was rather disappointed with the attitude and lack of helpfulness from the assistant at the Valspar Counter - she seemed totally disinterested in me as a customer and was quite abrupt and unfriendly, in fact she almost made me feel like I was inconvieniencing her. I was told the bedding "ain't gonna work because it's shiny (the colour section was material with a slight sheen)" the assistant did not bother to discuss other options instead she just got a colour card and said "this should do". The colour card did seem a good match when I checked against the proposed bedding so I purchased the product in that colour.

The assistant didn't try to advise me on what finish would be best renquire about what area I would be using the paint at any point. I also had to ask another assistant where the Valspar Roller Sets were located as I couldn't find them and when the rack was empty I was told "oh well we ain't got any then" at no point did the assistant give me any idea if/when they would be getting more stock and so I couldn't collect the Roller set and ended up applying the paint using a paint pad instead.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We decided to decorate our master bedroom. TBH I've been wanting to decorate this room ever since we moved into our house in August 2014 but as with most house moves all the rooms needed redecorating and there were other rooms which had to take priority for one reason and another. After a lot of work needing doing to the house and us needing a new boiler installed in December the saving space pot had kind of run dry so being accepted onto this trial gave us the opportunity to purchase the paint and was a great help towards the overall cost of decorating the room. Being on a timescale also gave me the kick up the bum to actually pick up the paintbrush and get the job done rather than it constantly being pushed down on the list of things to do. It can be difficult to find the time to decorate with two children but I ensured I made time to conduct the trial in the required timeframe.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The application was really nice. The paint went on well and was a lovely colour. We selected a duck egg blue and it covered the lilac colour which was on the walls previously pretty well, although the first coat did come out slightly patchy and a second coat was required to get a really even finish. I applied using a paint pad (as stated above unfortunately I was unable to get the Valspar Roller set to test as our B & Q had none in stock) and I noticed there was a lot less splatters than I have experienced when using this method of application with other brands. The product looks really good quality and the finish was great and the fact it is cleanable is a bonus, especially with two children under 6 in the family.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes most definitely - not only is the paint great to use and gives a fantastic quality finish but I love the fact that the colour matching service is available for those tricky colours or for looks where you really want to tie in your overall look with accent wallpapers, soft furnishings and suchlike.

We are away on a short break at the moment and don't get home until the weekend so I will update with pictures when we return as they are all on my laptop which is at home at the moment.

Thank you for selecting us to be part of this trial, it gave me the push to get our master bedroom decorated and now I really feel it looks like a finished part of the house rather than the one room that was still in dire need of redecoration. It's now a tranquil relaxing space for my husband and I rather than a lilac eyesore.

I didn't receive a voucher through the post but I've just received the e voucher and dh has printed it off at work. I'll be going to B&Q tomorrow and hopefully getting my hallway freshened up by the weekend.

I was going to do the sitting room but reading others posts it seems I wouldn't have enough to do 3 large walls so have decided to go for a smaller option.

PurpleDaisies · 12/04/2017 21:19

I'm in the same situation as james-my vouchers didn't arrive so I got an email version today. I've been to b and q to get the paint this evening. I've gone for "whisper softly" for our hallway and I can't wait to get painting.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
I chose the colour from the colours rack and there were loads to choose from. Really liked the boxes with different lights which showed how the colour would look under different lighting. I had to go find staff to help with getting the right paint which took a long time.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
Decorated the hallway as thats the main place kids leave sticky hand marks, writing on wall etc so wanted to see if the wipe down feature would work.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Overall found it a bit think to apply but was good as gave very good coverage instead of having to do loads of coats to get same result. Looks very nice and still have paint left for rest of hallways.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes as like the range of colours and that they can mix paint to match whichever colour (someone had this done while i was waiting to be served and was quite impressed with accuracy). I also like the fact paint is quite thick so you dont have to go over same area a lot to get the colour and also dried very quickly.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I chose a colour from the rack. There was lots of choice and variations of colours. It took me ages to decide, using the light boxes was interesting to see the difference in various lights.
I was really happy wth our final choice.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I decorated our bedroom. It's been needing decorating for a while and I wanted to change it to a calming, warm colour. (It was grey)

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I liked paining with this paint. It went onto the walls easily and didn't seem to drip. Cutting in was easy as the paint went onto the wall so nicely.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. Great choice of colours and I was really impressed with overall finish.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I found choosing my colour took quite a while because there was such a huge choice. I choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack and matched up my favourites with a piece of material that I had taken with me. I am really pleased with the colour. I was very happy with the service I received from the Valspar counter as they offered to answer any questions/advice if I needed any but they were not pushy.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
I decorated little man's bedroom because it was starting to look grubby from fingermarks and crayons and needed brightening up without keeping his brain to active at bedtime.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The 'thickness' of the paint took a little getting used to. I certainly has good coverage but needs to be brushed/rolled quickly to prevent too much paint sticking to one area. I found that I could not go back over any areas, that i felt were not quite right, until after the paint had dried. I found this out when i needed to spread some of the paint more thinly and my attempt caused it to be streaky. Saying that, it was so nice not to be splashed and limited clean up of surrounding area was needed.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would, particuarly for all of my ceilings which need doing and now that I know how the Valspar paint does not drip I feel I am ready to tackle them. The paint had very little odour which was a great bonus and the lid was easy to open too. I have not included my photo's yet as I am having problems with my iphone...I dropped it and broke the screen. So, sooo mad with myself.

Question 1 - I shopped with 3 of my dd's and my niece. We loved searching the racks of chips to find colours. Spent quite a long time discussing rooms and options that we don't even plan on redecorating. The dc's chose lots of sample colours to take home.

We settled on a colour fairly quickly.

We were assisted by a lovely young man who actually starred in the mumsnet video filmed at Peterborough I think he said. He was really helpful with colour choices, discussing the difference between Matt, soft sheen etc and totally entertained the girls by showing them how the paint was mixed. I asked him about the problem that the pp had when the paint was coming off and he explained how we avoid this happening by making sure that previous coat is dry.

My plan was originally to paint the sitting room, then the hall but since ds's toilet flooded his bathroom this morning, were now refitting that so we chose paint for ds en suite.

I would buy this again. I was expecting it to be more expensive than it is. I'm looking forward to using it so that I can feedback on user.

I haven't painted yet, that's tomorrow's job but our pics of our shopping experience are as follows.

It's been a very productive day today. Our grotty hallway has had two coats of whisper softly and looks fantastic. Thankyou Valspar!

1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample

I found it hard to choose because there were lots of suitable options. I used the chip rack and the light boxes to narrow it down to three and then just went with my instinct. I really liked the option to see the colours in different lights. Our hall hardly gets any natural light and it made a big difference to see our chosen colour under energy saving bulb light.

Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

Yes, the guy at B and Q was friendly and knowledgable without being pushy. I love the colour. I was initially worried it was much bluer than the sample card but now I've got two coats done it's exactly as it should be.

2. Which room did you decorate and why?

I chose our hall because it was about the right size for one pot of paint and it was in need of some serious TLC. The previous owners had left it partly painted and covered in dirt marks. It gets a lot if traffic so I liked the idea of super tough paint.

3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I've used Valspar paint before and really liked it so I was expecting it to be good. This formulation was actually my favourite to use. It didn't spray or drip and it was a joy to cut in. I've already recommended it to friends.

4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely. The range of colours, beautiful matt finish and the ease of use mean I will definitely be using it for future projects.

Pictures to follow.

Deckthehallswithjammydodgers · 14/04/2017 08:23

OK so after another coat I like the colour ! It doesn't match the new curtains I had bought so they are going back and I'm going to get curtains to match the paint !. Thank you as it's made me realise the colour I wanted wouldn't have been nice!

Rainbowsaretoo · 14/04/2017 21:57
  1. I found choosing a colour easy and did it from one of the samples
  2. The hall because it's busy and easily made messy
  3. I though the paint was great. good quality, didn't splatter and not too thick.
4.I would consider using it again.

Well another trip to B&Q today to get the paint and brushes / roller set - all ready for painting tomorrow. I am doing my son's room (smallest room) which s a pale green colour and will become cream (his choice!). I was matching a colour from another paint range, so will be interesting to see the end result. The Valspar rep in store was very helpful and got me the best match to the colour I wanted and then got the paint mixed for me. No pressure to get sorted.

Painting begin tomorrow and I have taken my 'before' photo - 'after' will be Monday and I will complete the feedback then!

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
I really liked the range of colours to choose from on the colour chips. Unfortunately a few of the colours had no chips you could take away (maybe not refilled?) and only one of the three light options that people are mentioning (daylight, fluorescent, etc) was working, so that didn't really help. I choose the paint colour 'Phoenix Tears'. I really liked how it came out - exactly like it was on the card. The woman who mixed it did so very quickly and was very polite. She even ran after me when I left my phone here!
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
I decorated what will be my daughter's nursery. She is not yet in there and I have just been putting it off - it was good to finally get the incentive to do it!
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
I really liked the paint. It went on well and, as you'll see from the before and after pictures, the paint was covering a very bright paint. To be honest, I'm not really sure it needed the second coat, although I gave it one anyway. I obviously haven't tried wiping it down or scrubbing it yet, but it's good to know I'll be able to!
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why no
I would like to. To be honest though, the price seems quite high. It was definitely thicker than other paints I use, and I would not need to use so much, and the range available is really good. However, I think I would probably reserve it for a feature wall or a small area. I think I would find it difficult to justify the extra cost if I was doing a large area/going for a nondescript colour.

Hello - thanks for giving me the opportunity to try this paint. It gave me a kick up the bum to decorate. Please find my answers below:

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

The colour which I chose was from the colour swatches "An Elephant in the Room" a grey colour which was for 2 of the walls in my bedroom. There were lots of different shades of colours so I could easily put 2 together and see if they went. I also bought an additional tin which the lovely lady in B&Q colour matched to a Dulux colour I had found. She gave advice on how much I would need and the coverage and mixed the paint within minutes. She also saved the colour to her computer with my name so that if I needed more she could mix it up. She said I would probably only need a tester pot if this was the case as it went a long way.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I painted my bedroom as I did DS's room back in December. My room had not been done for 15 years and had an awful terracotta colour on the wall. I wanted a quick and easy freshen up so painted over the textured wallpaper.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

This paint is absolutely brilliant. Considering it was going over a strong colour it covered immediately and one coat would probably have been enough if I didn't want to do two. I did notice a difference with the premium paint to the normal Valspar paint but both were brilliant to use. I love that it didn't splatter as I hate trying to get paint off carpets etc. It looked quite runny so I was surprised how it covered. It dried in an hour and I was able to do both coats in one day. Definitely worth paying extra for this paint and I don't think I would buy any other brand now I have tried this! The quality is far better than any other paint I have ever used.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

100%! Next time I buy paint this will be the brand I choose. No mess, quick drying, brilliant coverage. So, so happy and my room now looks like a new room. Thanks again!

(Will add photos shortly - my PC is not allowing me to import from my phone! )

We used the chip rack which had a huge range of colours. I particularly liked the light display which we could look at the samples under. Very easy to choose overall.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
We did the landing as it needed freshening up.

Fantastic coverage and quality. Very easy and smooth and the colour was very similar to the colour chip.
