1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
We chose a colour from the Little Greene colour card (Green Verditer), and they matched it exactly! I am very happy with the service received in B&Q – I didn’t have to wait to be seen, and the paint mixing process took a lot less time than I thought. The only thing is that I actually ran out of paint before I could finish (just two walls left to give a second coat!), and turns out that the first staff member who mixed the custom paint colour hadn’t saved the formula on the computer under my name, which makes it difficult to get an exact match. However, the second staff member was extremely helpful and professional, and we got there in the end!
This B&Q had the roller set, but not the brush set, so I had to buy those separately, which was frustrating.
2. Which room did you decorate and why?
We painted our daughter’s nursery. We moved in this autumn, about four weeks before she was born, and haven’t had any time to do any painting or redecorating. She will be moving into her nursery in a few weeks, so the timing of this test was great.
Also, turns out that the last owner had a more … lackadaisical approach to redecorating. Having moved a shelving unit that she left here (and that we kept), I discovered that she had just painted around it….
3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The paint is very thick, and it doesn’t smell very strongly.
It dries incredibly quickly, which is great in terms of getting the job done quickly, but I hadn’t realised how quite how quick I would have to be when I was painting, if that makes sense. It’s difficult to make sure that everything is even! The room gets a lot of sun, so I need to go back and make sure that everything is covered evenly.
Also, my walls are soaking up this paint. I had to go back and buy another litre to finish the second coat, and this room is not that big.
I found the paint very easy to clean off my skin and the paint brushes afterwards, just using water.
I did not like the roller – I didn’t feel like it was easy to get even coverage. It also shed all over my walls at first, so I had to pick out the fuzz. I won’t be keeping the roller.
I kept baby wipes nearby when I was painting and used those to deal quickly with any pesky drips.
4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would – especially once we can test the splatter resistance and how we can wipe the walls down.
I think the price is reasonable considering the qualities of the paint, and the ability to colour match to whatever colour you want.
Thank you, Mumsnet and Valspar, for this opportunity!
