"As well as being available in a variety of finishes, including matt, mid-sheen and gloss, the Valspar unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see - that's 2.2 million shades! Testers, answer the below questions, but also feel free to share any other comments you have on your experience:
1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
2. Which room did you decorate and why?
3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also share your before and after photos of your project on this thread and complete the feedback survey when we email this to you.

All who complete the required feedback by the 11th April will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I chose from the chip rack. I wanted a grey tone and there were tonnes to choose from - the process was made far easier by the fact that all the sample cards are true representations of the shade as they are painted with it! I also really liked the light box which enabled you to see the shade in 3 different types of light..think this gadget was what resulted in me choosing a colour that I am really happy with. A member of staff advised me of both of these things. He suggested a few shades to me as well and was really knowledgeable and obliging.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

The bedroom that my youngest two children share. It needed updating as it was previously a boring shade of magnolia.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint had excellent coverage, was the right consistency/smooth and 'roller-ed on' with ease. It seemed that a little paint did go a very long way and I am very pleased with the finish.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. It was good value, fantastic quality and best of all the process of choosing the right colour was much easier than with the other brands as the lengthy process of buying tester pots, trying them out and then returning to buy your chosen shade is eliminated.

Photos will follow shortly as I've not quite finished! Need to get a bit more paint, as our kitchen is too big.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
I'd narrowed down my choice with another brand before I'd got chosen for the product trial. I decided, in my wisdom to choose by sight, rather than matching with the kids playing up. I didn't get it quite right I must say, but it's a happy accident! Service was great I must say.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
We did our kitchen. It was built over 4 years ago, and was still undercoat with builder's lines, scribbles and child grime. It really needed doing!
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
I was really, really impressed. Odour was low, paint was thick but not too thick, a day it went on really well. We've almost finished the second coat, but it was so good you could almost get away with just the one. Wasn't a nightmare to get off the brushes either.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Absolutely. As good a quality as more expensive paint, huge range of colours and a joy to use. Looking forward to seeing how it stands up to family life.

Thanks Mumsnet and Valspar!

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We matched with one of the walls that had previously been painted in our dining room, the other walls haven't been updated since 2000 hence the slightly dated look Smile service at B and Q was fab, so helpful

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
As above, the dining room as it is long overdue
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
We've used this paint before and it was brilliant so was surprised that this time wasn't as good, loved the lack of drips and it didn't splatter at all, the mad amount if covering wasn't need at all. Also liked how easy it was to clean brushes and rollers afterwards, although did cover the roller tray in foil first for ease:)

Smell is good too, a day later and the smell is hardly detected which I like a lot.

It didn't cover as well as previously, it was a tricky colour to cover but we did prep the wall first. It was touch dry in 20 Minutes which is good but it was difficult to get the paint to cover any area with out it being taken straight off. We did manage to finish one wall but it took 5 coats! And used the whole pot of paint

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes as we've used it in the past and it's been brilliant. Maybe this was rogue tin but it took too much paint to get a decent coverage

Thank you for letting me test it as now we've started, hopefully the motivation is there to finish the room :)
You can see from the before pictures that we didn't get very far last time we attempted to decorated

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
We had a very pleasant when we went to purchase valspar premium v700 the lady at the counter was extremely helpful. We chose swan queen from the wide selection they had on the chip rack.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
My husband and i chose to paint our living room, its where the kids spend a lot of their time and over the years their drawings/pen marks needed covering up.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The paint was thick and extremely easy to apply whilst using the roller we found it didn't drip off the roller like some paint does. There wasn't a lot of cleaning to do after we had finished painting and the paint dried really fast. It gave a nice even color with a smooth finish. Very pleased with the overall results.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes i would definitely use Valspar again. It was a great product and i have already purchased it in La Senza for the front room.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
After a great deal of thought, Ds chose from the paint chips. It was really helpful the way they were laid out as I was able to show him the level of 'darkness' he could go to, and made it easy for him to choose from colour families. The service was excellent, and the lady who served us incredibly helpful.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
DS's playroom. A rather shabby little room which is still the same magnolia as the house was originally painted 20 years ago. He wanted a more grown up colour as it changes from playroom to his study.
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Brilliant - excellent coverage, went on beautifully and the colour was true
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I am delighted with it.

Thank you Valspar and MN for choosing us, and I will get the photos up when DH returns from his trip with the one cable that lets me put photos on the PC...

We matched our sample from a ripped piece of the existing lining paper and took that to the paint desk. The staff member was friendly and helpful and saved the colour so that we could get more if we needed it and the colour he mixed was a really good match!
We decorated the nursery - to be. The room had previously been used as a spare bedroom and needed some refreshing on the walls, and we have just had new windows installed which needed to be plastered and then made good with filler and paint.
The paint went on really easily and quickly with very little splash or dribble. It was particularly easy to apply with the Valspar brush, which was good and firm and gave a really even application. One coat did the trick, even on the new plaster, and looked really professional and smart when complete!
We would absolutely choose Valspar Premium blend for our next DIY job at home! It was great quality and appeared to be great value for money - we managed a really smart finish and got professional results despite amateur experience!

Attached are a couple of before photos and an after showing our lovely new baby room!

Thanks for letting us join the trial. Fingers crossed we win as there's more painting to do!

We chose from the colour samples. The light options were great at seeing how the paint would look. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.

We painted the kitchen because it looked horrible and scruffy.

I love this paint. We painted two walls including the one beside the hob. I'm a messy cook and the walls had grease marks which the paint covered easily. The paint felt a little thin but covered brilliantly. The colour was a true match to the paint chip, which was impressive.

I have bought more paint to do my bathroom and DDs bedroom. The colour range is fantastic and it was so easy to use.

This is my experience with the valspar paint:

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
I wanted a dark grey and chose this from the chip rack. I had a general idea before I went what sort of grey I was looking for but there was a lot of subtly different shades to chose from! I was very happy with the service. The staff member was knowledgeable about the colours and the shades. The colour on the wall was as I expected from the colour swatch in store.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
My teenage son's bedroom. It needed painting as had some walls moved in a recent extension build, and was completely replastered in the work. I used the Valspar paint over a mist coat
  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
I was surprised with it; really impressed. Applied nicely and very smooth finish and went on extremely well. A little thicker than the brands I am used to, and that was a good thing. Coverage was superb - 1 coat only was needed from white mist coat to dark grey!
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Definiftely! It was quite expensive compared to what I usually use (dulux / crown) but seemed to go much further and a LOT less effort. The wide range of available colours makes it really easy to get exactly the look you want. My daughter now wants me to paint her room!

Thank you mumsnet. I would never have tried this paint without this opportunity, and I think I am converted to Valspar. I will post pictures tomorrow when there is natural light in the room.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We choose one of the samples and the paint was a very good match for the colour it came out on the wall. The service we received was excellent with the lady advising us to take the samples out to the garden centre seeing them in daylight.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We decided to decorate the lounge as it hasn't been done in a long time and it's the room we spend most time in.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was really thick and creamy it went on really well and got great coverage!

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely use this paint again and recommend it to others!

I seem to have lost the before photos but here is the after.

We used the chip rack to find the colour we wanted. We wanted a neutral colour which we hope we will be able to add accents to at a later date. The service we received was outstanfing, super helpful especially when it came to choosing the finish (Matt, mid sheen or silk) and we were shown the colour before taking away to ensure we were happy with it
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
We did our sons bedroom which had been bright pink , a colour he hadn't chosen!

Fantastic, thick and applied well with roller. Smooth and didn't drip . Finish seemed quite professional .

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

Choosing a colour from the wall of colours was not all that fun. There are so many shades but there weren't any classic, that's just what I need colours. They are a shade off. This is why Dulux is my favourite. They seem to have the perfect shade of everything.

HOWEVER I looked at the stand behind me which had other ranges and one was a shade named after sand and it seemed like the perfect colour! So I took that to get it made.
The guy at the counter said it would take a few seconds after I asked how long it would take to make it. With two little kids it's hard to stand around on a hot day. It took several minutes which was disappointing only because I didn't expect it.

On the other hand the service he provided made me feel like a valued customer. He checked my swatch and told me the two closest colours which weren't that close and then made a custom one which was like 0.3% off which was fantastic and it was my own custom colour.

The funny thing is when it had been made and shown to me, the colour looked way off. Too pale. I was worried. But now that it's on the wall I do like it.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

It's probably not designed for the kitchen but I used it in the kitchen as I have valspar there already but in a shade I don't like (too dark). I needed it to be brighter. It's also partly used as a living room. I needed something brighter and fresher.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I've had a negative experience with a valspar shade before but this one seemed to go on well. It needs a second coat for sure but if I load extra then it is still okay. That said it does still feel inferior compared to Dulux. With valspar it's like the more you paint to cover patches, the more the paint comes off. So you have to wait till it all dries. Or use up more paint in the first place. But this time the experience was much better than the last.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would, because it does feel like a unique paint. But I'd always choose the brand that was on offer between this and another famous brand. Also I feel I still need to build more trust with this brand as for me it is pricey and if I always get good results then I'd go for it.

babba2014 · 11/04/2017 03:07

And these are the before and after photos. The after is the creamy shade. I do like the colour a lot.

I took my husband and son to help choose a colour. We had already decided that we loved Dulux 'Denim Drift' and so were expecting to get this shade colour-matched. However, what I wasn't expecting was the huge range of chips to be able to compare and choose from- this was a brilliant way to make sure we got the colour we wanted. We narrowed it down, using the light boxes to check in different lights and asked for three shades in tester pots. The staff were efficient and friendly.

We tried the pots on the two areas we were planning to paint and 'British Shorthair' was the unanimous choice. The fact that my husband kept referring to it as 'Sea Biscuit' wasn't especially helpful... Grin

We returned to B&Q and although it took a while to track someone down to help us, once we had, the service was swift and efficient. We were quickly able to locate the rollers and brushes and set off home to begin painting. (Oh, obviously we went though the tills- we didn't just walk out, I mean you feel like a bit of a celebrity doing a Mumsnet test but that might have been a step too far!)

We had chosen to decorate the chimney breasts in our two adjoining living rooms. They'd been a creamy white colour since we painted them after moving in 7 years ago so we were ready to change after recently getting new furniture. We tend to stick with really neutral colours so the blue was a real departure from the norm for us. I was totally relaxed about it but I was a little worried that my husband might back out (I may have clobbered him with the paint tin if he had though so it was lucky he had his big girl pants on that day!)

The same husband is also a fussy pants but also usually likes to spend as little money as possible on paint so what we generally end up with is crap paint that he complains about-a lot.
The Valspar was a total departure from this. It was creamy and didn't drip, the brushes worked well (anti-roller husband who didn't even open the roller pack, confirmed this) and the coverage was excellent. It tends to look a bit patchy mid-job as it dries so quickly but as long as you leave it alone and trust it will all even out on fully drying it's fine.

It was so quick drying that we had a bit of a dilemma (discussion ) (* oh, alright then- full blown shouty disagreement!) about when to remove the tape but it all worked out well (I was right).
There were very limited odours and it dried so quickly that doing the second coat was a doddle.

We're very happy with the finish, especially given that our old walls are quite lumpy and bumpy. It looks brilliant and we're delighted with the colour. We would absolutely use Valspar again and are intending to for our next painting job. We've also already recommended it to several friends.

Thanks for letting us try it out!

As I was painting a ceiling we didn't choose a colour just went with white. I did have a good look at the colour rack and picked some colours for the kitchen (next project!)

The dining room ceiling as our hot water tank burst a few weeks ago and left an ugly stain.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We chose the colour from the booklet we received in our pack. We were really happy with the colour it was the lovely bright yellow we were after. The b&q staff were very helpful & friendly plus it was great to see the paint being made & shook in front of us!

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

Initially I had planned to decorate my daughter&sons room but the paint tub sized wouldn't have stretched that far and I couldn't a Ford to purchase an additional tub myself - so we decided to give the kitchen a much needed lick of paint. I liked the idea that the paint could be wiped cleaned - ideal for the kitchen!

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was of an excellent quality, really thick premium stuff which went on really well and was easy & fuss free to apply. There Was no dripping or 'splash back' either which was good. The brushes and roller were fab too, with no loss of bristles. We will need to do a top up in some areas were the paint hadn't quite covered some areas well enough.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would consider purchasing this paint again due to the high quality - however it would prob be a little expensive for my budget.

  1. We chose the paint from the chips - we knew we wanted something light and ended up choosing clotted cream. The woman on the counter told us how she had used the paint in her kitchen and how durable it was. Was happy with the colour when we got home.
  2. We are decorating our lounge as the children have got older the sticky handprints have got higher and the wall next to the stairs where they like to sit is horrendous.
  3. It seems like a good quality paint - I've only managed to do a small wall (poorly child has needed extra cuddles). Not had chance to use the roller but impressed with the comfort of the brushes. The paint is thick but seems to go far and goes on lovely. Looking forward to finding out how durable it is and brightening up the rest of the room
  4. I'm already planning on using the paint in other rooms where the little munchkins go.

Thank you for giving me a chance to test - you've got a repeat buyer in me!

1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We chose a colour from the Little Greene colour card (Green Verditer), and they matched it exactly! I am very happy with the service received in B&Q – I didn’t have to wait to be seen, and the paint mixing process took a lot less time than I thought. The only thing is that I actually ran out of paint before I could finish (just two walls left to give a second coat!), and turns out that the first staff member who mixed the custom paint colour hadn’t saved the formula on the computer under my name, which makes it difficult to get an exact match. However, the second staff member was extremely helpful and professional, and we got there in the end!

This B&Q had the roller set, but not the brush set, so I had to buy those separately, which was frustrating.

2. Which room did you decorate and why?

We painted our daughter’s nursery. We moved in this autumn, about four weeks before she was born, and haven’t had any time to do any painting or redecorating. She will be moving into her nursery in a few weeks, so the timing of this test was great.

Also, turns out that the last owner had a more … lackadaisical approach to redecorating. Having moved a shelving unit that she left here (and that we kept), I discovered that she had just painted around it….

3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint is very thick, and it doesn’t smell very strongly.

It dries incredibly quickly, which is great in terms of getting the job done quickly, but I hadn’t realised how quite how quick I would have to be when I was painting, if that makes sense. It’s difficult to make sure that everything is even! The room gets a lot of sun, so I need to go back and make sure that everything is covered evenly.

Also, my walls are soaking up this paint. I had to go back and buy another litre to finish the second coat, and this room is not that big.

I found the paint very easy to clean off my skin and the paint brushes afterwards, just using water.

I did not like the roller – I didn’t feel like it was easy to get even coverage. It also shed all over my walls at first, so I had to pick out the fuzz. I won’t be keeping the roller.

I kept baby wipes nearby when I was painting and used those to deal quickly with any pesky drips.

4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would – especially once we can test the splatter resistance and how we can wipe the walls down.

I think the price is reasonable considering the qualities of the paint, and the ability to colour match to whatever colour you want.

Thank you, Mumsnet and Valspar, for this opportunity!

Pics are before, during (after one coat) and after.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received? - I spent quite a lot of time choosing my colour before I went to get the paint. I used the valspar app & website in addition to taking inspiration from pinterest. I wanted to be a bit adventurous with my colour but as I was painting a narrow hallway with little natural light, I chickened out of a big statement colour. I chose a grey from the colour chips but at the last minute changed to a grey shade from another brand which looked warmer and more inviting and I had this colour matched. The service in store was brilliant - enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient and the colour is just what I wanted.
  2. Which room did you decorate and why? - My hallway was unloved and embarrassingly grubby - bikes, scooters, buggies and sticky fingers had taken their toll. The fact that this paint is scrubbable meant that painting with it didn't feel like a waste of time - I will be able to wipe it down and hopefully keep it looking fresh.
  3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality. - This is good quality paint: it didn't splatter (my pet hate), was really easy to apply and gave good coverage. I liked that it didn't have a strong smell especially as I was working in a narrow space. The roller set and brushes were also good quality (no rogue brush hairs on the wall!).
  4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? - Yes, I was really impressed with the paint. If it wipes down well I will definitely be a convert.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We applied to take part in the product test because my daughter was returning to the big bedroom she'd left as a 5 year old because it was "too scarey". We were thrilled to be selected and got started choosing a colour. We downloaded the Valspar "Pick a Paint" colour app onto the phone and my 8 year old managed to use it on her own to check out the different shades of teal. She loved the experience. We had a shortlist of 3 shades and set off for B&Q to get the paint.

At the store we found Jenna, the Valspar specialist straight away. She was very friendly and helpful asking my daughter if she had any ideas in mind. We enjoyed following her advice to check out the 3 chips we'd chosen and my daughter happily settled with Lido Deck. It was mixed in a jiffy whilst J chose her gold sparkles to put in the paint. Not having to pay was a real treat. Thank you Valspar and Mumsnet fur choosing us!

Excellent quality overall - not that I have masses of decorating experience! The paint went on beautifully, much better than my efforts to patching the wall with the incorrect product. The paint therefore did wonders covering up my dodgy DIY. We had no drips except fur a rookie error in J's part who insisted on helping me cut in and use the roller.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour?
We knew we wanted yellow so really enjoyed choosing from the chip rack. We were really pleased with the colour and the lady in B&Q was really helpful and we were happy with our choice.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
We decorated our living room. Although there are a lot of windows, there isn't a lot of light so we wanted something bright to prevent the room seeming dark. Our daughter is now 11 months old so it was good to clear up and make things childproof before she starts walking.

The paint was really good quality, although we used an undercoat we were very pleased with the coverage and probably could have got away with only using one coat.
  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again?
Definitely! We are even considering buying it for the non-feature walls (we have dogs, teenagers and an almost-mobile baby - we need all the durability we can get!)

(We couldn't find any B&Q that was stocking the rollers though - we visited 3 stores!)

  1. Chosing the colour was easy. I took I colour chip from another colour card and had it colour matched. It was the perfect match to the original brands tester.

  2. I redecorated the end wall of our playroom. The previous owners had painted that wall dark red, I guess to make it look less long and skinny... except the room is quite dark and it made it look like a cave!

  3. The paint was easy to apply. Much better than own brand paints I've used previously. Seemed similar quality to Johnstones which is my usual go to brand. Very little splatter, possibly the least splatter paint I've ever used, but wasn't too thick unlike the one coat paints.

  4. Yes, I would use them again if it lives up to the claims the scrub ability etc. The playroom is 'home' to three boys and two large and often muddy Labradors. If it's easy to clean and doesn't wash away then that's a big selling point.

The photos of the red wall were taken mid afternoon- so when the room gets the most light. The after pics were late afternoon so usually it's a lot darker in there by then

Finally got round to painting!

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We had our paint matched to the wallpaper as you can see in the photo. I think it's so clever and really is an amazing thing to be able to do. Despite the choice of colours in our local b&q, there was nothing quite right to go with our chosen paper.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
Our nursery ready for new arrival!
