2. Which room did you decorate and why?
3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'm answering the questions in small chunks!

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I have not applied a second coat as was happy with the way the first coat dried - it's my very small bedroom which I only use for sleeping and most of the wall is hidden with cupboards. I like the finish and the colour is bright and has certainly cheered up the room.
I did track down the roller set in another store but haven't used it (love the purple!)

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would use it again for the non-drip, colour matching and light box aspects but the cost would put me off especially if I was decorating a large room. Photos have not come out clearly enough - sorry.

  1. I really struggled to narrow down a colour. The lounge is currently a browner shade of magnolia and I toyed between keeping it safe (grey/mushroom) or going with colour. The choice at B&Q was totally overwhelming. However they had a small section which only some of their paint came in- sorry not sure which- and I just chose from there. I braved colour and went for a Baby Blues.
  1. Our lounge because the walls are awful. Marks everywhere and run marks from the previous paint. We've lived here 3 years now so this made us do it!
  1. I was really nervous because I tested this paint before and had an awful experience. As a previous poster said, it went on with one stroke and pulled off in huge clumps with another. I'm delighted to say that this time round it painted like a dream. It must be to do with the type of paint you have underneath. It's quite thick and dries quickly so you have to work quite fast but coverage is excellent. It will need a second coat but I expected that. I love the colour. Exactly what I was after so glad I didn't play safe.
  1. Yes, I think so but only if it's on offer. It's pretty expensive and I wouldn't say loads better than any other paint but I did like it. However I went for the one with a sheen for my sons nursery and that is a fantastic colour. I'd pay more for that.

Photos show before and after- have just done one wall as yet. The rest being done in the evenings this week. I don't think the pictures do it justice. The colour is lovely and bright and fresh.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I chose from the colour chips available. I knew roughly which colour I wanted and picked up three chips to compare. I liked the idea of the different lights to see the chips under but only one of the three bulbs was working. I liked all three colours and all were quite similar so I let my 3 year old choose! He went for 'tea party'. The Valspar desk and area didn't have a staff member when I was there and I waited around 5 minutes to be served but the lady was friendly and the paint mixing was quick.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I painted our kitchen. It desperately needed decorating as the paint was patchy and there were several marks that couldn't be cleaned. It's also quite small with not much wall space so I knew the 2.5l tin would cover it. As it was we have over half a tin left. I'm hoping that the paint is scrubbable as it's supposed to be, as that will be really useful in the kitchen.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I thought the quality of the paint was fantastic. It went on easily with minimal dripping and the coverage is amazing, I only did one coat and it's not patchy at all.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Before painting with it I would have said no as it is so expensive. However as it only took one coat, a small tin goes a long way and the time it's saved me is worth a lot. As you can see from the clock on the before and after pictures it took me just over 4 hours start to finish!

Hi
So thrilled to be chosen for this.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

Choosing the colour was simple, I chose from the available colours - Fresh Narcissus. It looks like clotted creamSmile
The colour is perfect and the staff at B&Q were very helpful.

Brushes and roller were in stock when I collected and easy to locate in the store.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I painted a feature wall in my bedroom. It was looked tired and scuffed behind the bed and now it's beautiful.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I love the consistency of Valspar, we have used it before and had forgotten how thick it was. Easy to apply/use and excellent coverage. I thought the roller was unique - had never seen a purple sleeve before!

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend again?

Yes. I have already been spreading the word about how marvellous the paint is and we would definitely use again. The price is only a little more than other paints but it's so easy to use and with such good coverage you definitely get value for money.

Thank YouFlowers Mumsnet and Valspar. A fabulous product and I love seeing the paint shaken inside the machine.

  1. I wanted a bold but relaxing colour, I had my mind set on a teal colour before going to B&Q and decided to choose from the range of colours on the chip rack.
  1. Our hall has not been decorated since we moved in and had our extension built as it is quite a transient room I felt confident choosing something bold.
  1. The range of Valsper colours in B&Q is vast, it was such a treat to have so much choice. I loved browsing the colours and received great service from the B&Q team.
  1. I feel emboldened by the project and am keen to get to work on more rooms. Valsper Premium Blend covered the wall well, (although I did apply two coats as it is such a bright colour.) and the paint wasn't too stinky. I will definitely buy again.

We chose a colour from the many available on the rack. We were spoilt for choice. I didn't seek any advice from the staff in store as i didn't feel i needed any. I just asked for the paint and colour i wanted and a few minutes later it was ready. Overall i was pleased with the choice, colour and service.
We decorated my daughter's bedroom. She is moving to a new room as we are expecting another baby in August. The room is currently an office and looking a bit tatty so needed a bit of a make over.
I am very happy with the paint, it went on well gave smooth even coverage and best of all no splatter. So no tiny flecks of paint all over my clothes and skin. I couldn't quite get away with one coat but i am pleased with the finish.
I would definitely consider using it again.
I will post an after picture shortly.

1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We chose a standard colour from the chips available. The first B&Q we went to didn't have any bulbs in their light testing area so we changed store. We ended up choosing the final colour based on the light boxes so I'm glad we changed store. We chose Rugged Olive. The staff at the service desk were helpful and efficient, despite it being busy. The colour looked lovely in the pot and we were very happy with the colour of the dried finish.

2. Which room did you decorate and why?

We changed the colour of the feature wall in our bedroom. There were numerous oily stains from rejected Calpol and it was looking tired.

3. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

We were really impressed with the quality of the paint brush and roller set. The ease of application was a real positive feature of this paint and we were very happy with the speed in which it dried. We'd used a base coat of matt white over the old colour (and stains!) but looking back I don't think we would have needed to based on the coverage.

4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

We were impressed with the paint and would definitely recommend it to others. However, we usually buy paint when on offer so the difference in price is more noticeable than direct comparison of RRP.

Thank you for letting us be a part of the trial. Our refreshed bedroom is a sea of calmness (when the DC are asleep!)

If anything there was too much choice! I picked from the rack, the colour is cream so pretty hard to not like it and the service was great. Really friendly and happy to help.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We are in the process of completely redecorating our front room (and the rest of the house!) we wanted to go back to simple, as we are hoping to sell soon.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Easy to use and apply, the brush and roller set was good as well. Paint went on well but there wasn't enough to do the room so will have to buy more, it's good paint though so have no issues with that.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes absolutely, although I need to see how it stands up to the toddler. I'm hoping it will wipe easily!

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I had a rough idea of the colour I wanted and loved being able to select from so many shades. Usually I am stuck when choosing as the colour I have pictures in my mind isn't there it I find it in a gloss or something, but not in the right type. I find that though our local b and q is huge it doesn't seem to carry a huge range of paint colours, so what you want might not be there. I love that with this system you can find the perfect shade. If I hadn't found it I could have matched it. I loved the lights for viewing how the colour looked in different lights. The paint looked lovely on the walls- very vibrant.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

The upstairs spare room, which was in need of some tlc. DD2 is still in our room, but needs her own space soon. It hadn't been decorated since we moved in here.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

It was nice and thick. It was a bit odd to put on as it did seem to go a bit patchy when you rolled over it again, but it resolved with a second coat and looks great. The end result is great so I am happy.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yeah- I like it. It is pricey, but the colour selection was amazing and if I am getting a room decorated it is nice to be able to get the colour I want. I am too scared to try and dirty it to see how it cleans up, but I am sure it will be fine. I like the idea of matching the colour to something so may do that when we decorate our living room in the next month or two. I liked the quality and am delighted you chose me. I will recommend to others. Thanks.

cookiefiend · 09/04/2017 20:17

Almost forgot- final colour. I forgot to take an unidentifiable before pic of the room, but the second picture shows another room in the same bland and dirty magnolia. I am pleased with the change.

Choosing the colour was a bit bewildering as there was such an array of choice (too much?) Not helped by a colourblind husband so it was just me! We chose from the rack, and whilst we could have spent longer choosing we were being decisive (helped by a 3 year old who just kept picking mucky forest green colours in the name of "help". We couldn't get the rollers from the shop as they were out of stock

We decorated the bathroom as it has suffered over the last few years, and also it's one of the rooms in the place that we have colour in. We last painted it over 3 years ago and two children under 4 have rather grubbed the current paintwork.

My husband did the painting. He said the paint was quite claggy and it's quite difficult to correct errors (a slight greeny spot on the ceiling was too thick to be wiped. The advantage though is that the color is thick enough to transform quite quickly and we really like the colour.

We would consider Valspar for the range of colours available and in theory for it's durability - but it remains to be seen how that goes!

We were decorating our youngest sons bedroom. He was conceived basically as soon as we moved into a new house so the bedroom he ended up in was one which was decorated for his brother and not him. We had been meaning to decorate it for a while and this gave us the perfect chance. We chose a colour from the choices in store and it took forever to decide on one because there are so many to choose from. My husband likes a silk finish and I prefer Matt so we went for mid-sheen as a compromise. Took the colour sample to the desk and it was mixed in under 5 minutes. The paint does not really have an odour which was a plus. It took 2 coats to cover quite a dramatic colour change. We used the Valspar roller which was brilliant no little splashes on your arms like you get from some rollers. Could have done with a bit of a longer handle though. We also used the Valspar brushes which were fantastic not one bristle lost on the whole job. The paint does not drop at all either so no runs. I'm quite a clumsy/messy painter but luckily the bit I dripped on the carpet cleaned off with just a wet cloth. This has inspired us to carry on and do the rest of the house one room at a time and we will definitely be going with the Valspar paint again. Only downside of that is hard it will be choosing colours. Thank you Mumsnet and Valspar for the chance to try the product you now have lifelong customers. Blue/red is before. Green is after

First, thanks for picking me for this product test

I decorated my toddler daughter's bedroom. It was last painted just before she was born and was a bright shade of yellow as we didn't know her gender. I wanted to make a more suitable room for her.
I chose the colour by colour matching one of her tops and I'm glad I did this. I thought I would look at the colours avaliable in store as well for another room and found the whole display quite overwhelming. So many colours just a tiny bit different from each other and I would struggle to pick one. I was pleased with the colour chosen and it was only a short wait while the paint was mixed.
The paint was easy to apply and dried to a nice finish. I like the fact that is is wipeable especially being in a kids room. It dried fairly quickly and did not smell unpleasant.
I would definitely use this product again in my other rooms and would use the colour match system as it seems a great way of getting exactly what you want.

I chose Folk Blue in matt. I wanted to try a more bold colour than I normally go for, I found it difficult to chose as there was so much choice but I forced myself to pick something there and then or I knew I'd just dither forever. The staff in B&Q were helpful and great ambassadors for valspar, everyone said what brilliant paint it is.

We are at the beginning of a massive renovation project so I wanted to add a splash of colour to our grubby white lounge as it is going to be a while before we get around to decorating it permanently as it needs replastering etc in the long term.

The paint was very good quality, thick texture, covered well. I did a second coat but it was only a quick second coat as the first covered well. I'm definitely going to buy it again as I was really impressed with it, though I'm not sure I can afford to do every room in it as it is a little pricey. The colour matched the card exactly which is great to know.

Now I've just got to paint all the shelves, fix the hole in the chimney breast, buy a new rug and curtains and cushions to match the new colour...

Not sure why the photos have posted the wrong way around but you get the idea! The blue is the 'after', though I'm sure valspar do offer a shade of grubby white, there are a lot of colours to choose from after all Grin

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

At first the choice was overwhelming! But we eventually managed to find a colour that we liked. We chose a colour from the chip rack which offered a good selection but some chips were muddled up and in the wrong place, but could have just been the store not keeping them tidy. Service was good with staff happy to help and friendly.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We went with the hallway as its a high traffic area.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The quality was good but the texture was unusual - quite like chalk paint and dried very quickly. Needed two coats to evenly cover the cream colour already on the walls. The man at B&Q advised us that when the roller showed the purple colour it needed reloading with paint so that was helpful. Not like previous paint we've used where the roller would be reloaded once no more paint would come off it.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes we would (and will)! The stain resistant feature alone is a huge boon and the colour selection means there will always be something suitable, even if it takes a while to decide.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I already knew which colour I wanted, an aqua blue from dulux called ocean ripple, a shade I have had my eye on for months! I took the colour chip from dulux and tried to match it by eye to a valspar colour chip (an impossible task for an amateur like me)! I really liked the lightbox section where you could test your paint in different lights. I took the chip the the desk where the staff member offered I match it to a valspar shade or to colour match it. I chose the latter as I was sure that was the shade for me. Whilst mixing it the staff member shared her knowledge of the valspar paint range which was interesting, she obviously knew her stuff! I was made up when she showed me the colour after mixed as it looked exactly like the blue I wanted.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

The dining area of my kitchen. It was a horrible grey colour (free paint given to my husband by his friend - not my choice)! It has been like eating in a dungeon for a couple of years. It also had greasy hand prints not the wall - not very nice.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Let's start with the lid. I was very impressed with the lid, no trying to work round the edges with a screw driver then spattering everything when trying to prise the metal lid out. The pot is made of plastic and has a handy opening section.

The paint went on lovely and thick and felt satisfying as I saw it cover the grey. When dried the parts for the walls which had been done with the valspar roller looked amazing and barely needing a second coat. The parts which had been cut in with the valspar brush needed a second coat as you could see the grey coming through. Seond coat applied fixed the problem. The paint as I said is lovely and thick and has a great depth to the colour. As it is quite thick it did need frequent reapplying to the roller but I would much prefer that than runnier paint which splatters off the roller and doesn't actually cover the paint beneath.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes! Although expensive I think the paint is a very high quality paint which covers underneath paint really well. I chose mid sheen for the finish and it catches the light beautifully. I now have a beautiful aqua blue dining area to enjoy eating in.

We chose from the paint cards. We were after a darker blue for a feature wall to complement existing pale blue walls and found it easy to select a colour we liked.
  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
We chose a wall in the dining room. It had been damaged by the dogs and was looking pretty grotty. See picture Grin

Overall I would say mixed. It seems more viscous than other paints. DH described it as being like sun cream that is hard to rub in. It went on OK with the roller, but the brush strokes for the cutting in are more apparent. On the other hand - as it says on the tin - it didn't splatter. We used 2 coats and it looks good from a distance, but close up you can see imperfections.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would consider using it for ceilings, where the non-dripping properties would be a bonus. I think it would be fine for a light coloured, Matt finish. I don't think I'd use it again on a dark coloured wall though, especially In the silk format. Its not forgiving enough.

the paint is thick and covers well. i am using the roller to give good coverage. i am going to do two coats but it has gone on well. the room is divided by dado rail which i cannot remove so i am using the valspar paint at the top .

Choosing a colour was great, although I did have fun looking at the colour chips in the end I decided to do a colour match instead for Farrow and Ball's "Pink Ground". The Valspar staff (Ben) & B&Q were lovely, and the paint that was made up was a lovely peachy pink colour.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?
I did the dining room. I had to do it as the wallpaper was peeling off of the walls, although it was looking all tired and dated anyway.

Really good. My friend warned me not to go for darker colours of the Farrow and Ball match as they don't tend to work as well, but for a light bright colour the walls look fantastic and really clean. The colour went on really easily and I was surprised quite how far the 2.5l pot went in a fairly big room.

Definitely - it seems worth the money, and I'm planning on doing my bedroom next in a light colour, so I'm already looking forward to doing my next browse through the colour chips!

I've just bought my first house so this came at the perfect time. The dining room was a mint green, that made it look dark and dated so I needed to brighten it up a bit.
Choosing the paint was very easy, I knew I wanted cream so just popped in and had a look at the paint chip rack and picked out the colour I wanted.
Application was so much better than other paints I had used, I wasn't covered in splatters from rolling so that was a definite bonus. I'm an incredibly messy diy-er so I need something that isn't go to go anywhere other than the walls! I like the fact it didn't stink out the house, I have a 12 week old baby so that was definitely a plus point. One coat was all that was needed to cover the green which I was really impressed with, you can see the excellent coverage in the picture, and I did nothing to prep the walls, just slapped it on. It's very forgiving, even with my haphazard painting it still looks great.
I have already repurchased the paint for my dd's bedroom and my own, a soft blue for me and grey for my dd. I was so impressed with the finish it was a no-brainer. We used the colour matching service because the blue I wanted was very specific and I couldn't find one I wanted off the shelf. It was quick and easy, and the colour is exactly what I wanted, so can definitely recommend that aspect. Looking forward to having the house finished, and already loving my much smarter dining room!
