Thanks for the chance to test Valspar V700 paint. I paint for a living, and have clients from "F&B all the way" to penny pinchingcost conscious LLs, so use different paint ranges, but I was a Valspar virgin, so delighted to try.
I used Bridal Veil, matt, on a small TV room, because I' m paling my worn house before selling.
The colour match to the sample card - better than many big brands.
Application - this is a good diy paint, thickish and easy to apply.Deffo needed two coats for the lilac to cream colour change. I will probably touch up some bits , which is disappointing: but tbf, I' m quite a perfectionist.
The finish is pleasingly matt, surprisingly chalky for a washable paint.I love very matt, this is veering onto slightly too chalky for me.Again, I'm a paint pedant.
For me, this a perfectly good diy paint. But, for £11.20/Lt, it needs to be more than just good.Compared to Dulux matt emulsion at £6.57/lt, ( £4.80/lt a current B&Q offer), or the £2.40/lt Leyland white trade I use for ceilings, this Valspar paint needs to be all singing all dancing to justify it's price. The main USP is that its scrubbable. This is worth a LOT if you live with children, pets, or any member of my family.Genuinely scrubbable paint, like F&B used to be, can look good for years, way cheaper than repainting every 1-2yrs.
Tbf, a paint needs to be not just touch dry but left a while before testing for durability. Having no time left, I tried it anyway, and was astonished by how well it stood up to scrubbing ,24 hrs after painting.
At £11.20/Lt, this Valspar compares well with Dulux trade diamond matt(£14/Lt trade,£15.65 retail), my go to choice for matt and scrubbable.Although the Valspar coverage is not as good as Dulux trade.
Summary:
Valspar you've done well to come close to the market leader in the tough and matt stakes, but only time will tell how this paint wears. This expensive, I want it to last for years.
Would I buy it? Depend how much cost is a factor. The paint's fine, and I look forward to trying Valspar in a kitchen. Too expensive for a bedroom or study. Hallways- scrubbable is great, but fewer coats with a trade paint wins when it's an awkward reach.
Also generously given a roller set and brushes. Roller quality ok, if pricey: I'd want tray, frame and 5 sleeves for that money, not 1. Brush set, I find it hard to warm to a company selling these.Cheap brushes make getting a good finish painting wood unnecessarily hard. Do yourself a favour, get the £10 set now on offer at B&Q, £10 to Valspar's £6, but about four times as good.
Thank you for the chance to try these Valspar products.
