This thread is for the Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the AddWash™ WW8500 Washing Machine.

Here’s what Samsung have to say: “We wanted a washing machine that simply adapts to consumers, not for consumers to have to adapt to their machines. Our AddWash™ range reflects Samsung’s commitment to marrying beautiful design and practical innovations to create appliances that help be more efficient”.
Ashwin Gouveia - Senior Product Manager – Laundry (Samsung UK)

Testers:
Once your machine has arrived, please tell us:

  1. What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?
  2. Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using?

After having a few days to test your machine, we’d love to know:
  3. Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
  4. How is this machine different to your previous model?

Finally, now that you’ve had your machine for over a week, please tell us:
  5. What is your favourite feature and why?
  6. Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?

Please also add your review to the Mumsnet reviews section here.

Non – testers, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, please answer the following question:
If you could add a magic feature to your washing machine, what life-changing function would it have? Would it make your clothes magically repel creases, or hang up your clothes automatically? Would it have a super quick wash cycle for those nights where someone urgently needs a clean PE kit? Would it have a sensor to locate those odd socks?

Whatever your idea, please post it as a comment below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 love2shop voucher.

    Standard Insight T&Cs Apply
    Thanks,
    MNHQ

Non tester here:
I have a couple:

  1. a setting that would get rid of any stain no matter what. (As I stare at a top stained by baby food!!)

  2. a setting that would get rid of sand, always finding left over sand.

  3. one that senses when people leave things in pockets.

Non-tester: My magical feature would be that it would sort clothes to who they belong to when the come out the washing machine! Seriously, I think a really useful feature that fewer and fewer washing machines seem to have is a good quick wash feature - so a reasonably thorough wash in around 30 minutes. They seemed all the rage a few years ago and are now like golddust to find!

Non-tester. I would like a washer dryer that actually dries clothes well (preferably after removing the clothes not suitable for the dryer and hanging them up somewhere for me)

Non tester (sooo gutted Sad) but would love to add my twopence worth about washing machine frustrations!!

My machine simply does not wash under 40 degrees. Everything comes out smelly and covered in gunk. Maybe it's my machine but would love one that can cope with lower temperatures and woollies.

Rubber seals - why can't these be better designed? Impossible to clean and stop the gunk forming in creases you can't get to.

Washing machine drawers - again IME these are impossible to remove and clean!

So yes, I would've love to have test drive this new machine but hopefully it's addressed some of these issues - can't tell from the feedback so far although the self clean feature sounds positive.

Today's discoveries.....
Washing machine cleans sick off car seat covers really really well and if your toddler opens the add wash door while the machines running an alarm goes off and it automatically pauses.

The door catch which is so crucial in telling the machine it's ok to start the cycle would NEVER snap off (leaving the entire machine defunct just for one tiny bitof plastic....)

Hmm
With 5 kids under 8yrs old I wish My machine could turn the clothes the right way before washing them ! I spend ages turning dirty muddy, smelly, sweaty kids socks and tops the right way so they wash properly, I also wish the socks could come out paired up already as they take ages to sort out as they are all so close in size it's hard to tell if it's one sons or the other so i spend at least 30 mins measuring the socks next to each other to pair them Xmas Sad .

Non-tester - a machine that left everything perfectly smooth and never needing ironing would be amazing.

Very excited to be a tester. Thanks mnhq.

My first impressions were it looks very space age and technical. The door is huge and the drum fits loads in. The depth is deeper than our previous washing machine but it can fit so much more washing in. After working out how to open the door to the machine (!!) all the other buttons etc seem very straight forward and the range of wash load options seem excellent. I love the opening door where you can add washing midway through the cycle as I'm always forgetting to put something in too late. Dd has been opening and closing it regularly in amazement to demonstrate it to me Grin . I'm also slightly over excited that a light comes on in the machine when you want to add washing mid wash with the special door.

The features I'm most excited to try are the special gardening wash for muddy sweaty clothes (as dh is a gardener so I'm looking forward to seeing if it really does get out the grass stains etc), the eco wash (will a cold wash really perform as well as a warmer wash? I'm doubtful but reserving full judgement and looking forward to be proved wrong), and the function to add clothes in during the wash.

I shall keep you updated with how they go.

ChristmasTreeFairy · 10/12/2016 10:42

Oh, and to add our machine is on wood floor and the previous machine we had was on two special mats to stop the floor shaking (it still shook). The installers told us this machine has special rights her feet so the shock mats shouldn't be required. I'm looking forward to compare how much difference there is between my old machine on two shock mats vs new machine on the floor. Dh says the manual certainly seems like it's a very impressive machine (and he doesn't usually readly give such compliments).

it would magically start my favourite song when I open it to unload and load so that doing the washing is suddenly not so bad.

Non-tester. I would like my machine to automatically turn all clothes the right way round. I seem to lose a disproportionate amount of time doing that and sorting washing

I would love it to go pick up all the dirty laundry from from the smelly teenagers bedroom floor (crusty socks) and fold iron and put away! (Worst job in the world with 4 kids!!

  1. Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
Yes, really pleased. Everything comes out feeling and smelling very fresh and clean, and thanks to the fast spin it's drier than usual when it comes out. It's also quick to wash, with the average cotton wash seeming to take just over an hour. It hasn't really been tested on any nasty stains yet but I look forward to seeing how it performs on them.
  2. How is this machine different from your previous model?
It's on a completely different level from my old machine. The drum is about twice the size, it's much faster, quieter, smarter and all round better!

My ideal machine would have a self cleaning powder drawer as I hate the gunk that forms there!

Report
TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 10/12/2016 22:29

My ideal washing machine would allow you to wash two separate loads at once rather than having to do them one after the other. Also, a function that would detect when a wool wash item had accidentally been put in with a normal wash.

The magic life-changing feature I would add to my washing machine would be for it to be able to manage super massive loads! Sometimes it feels like I am never finished loading washes into the machine in batches, especially at the end of the school week when there's uniforms and PE kits and all sorts to get washed! It would be so great if I could just put in one super massive wash- oh, and for it all to be washed, dried, ironed and hung up in one go (preferably within half an hour if it's REALLY magical!) :P

Non tester

My magical feature would be the ability go into my kids rooms and collect the dirty laundry in the first place,

it's a constant battle to get them to bring it all down to the washing machine in one go and there's always a rouge pair of pants / school shirt left out of the load!

A button to iron and fold fitted sheets and duvet covers! I don't mind ironing and folding clothes but a double fitted sheet is something spawned from the devil Grin

5)What is your favourite feature and why?
Defenitly my favourite feature has been the add wash. I've ended up using it practically every wash and with a house of 5 kids and a couple of dogs that's a loss of washes.
My second favourite feature is the ability to blast bubbles at the manly bits when needed. We've had a germ filled week in the Brian household and this has felt with everything that's literally been chucked at it.
I also do like the ability to control the machine via app, mainly because it tells me when my washings done so I can text my teenage dd and tell her to empty it when I'm out of the house.

6)Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?
Yes especially the ones with lots of messy children. The drum capacity is great, it looks cool and it washes like a dream. It is expensive but if you have the money then worth every penny.
