This thread is for the Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the AddWash™ WW8500 Washing Machine.

Here’s what Samsung have to say: “We wanted a washing machine that simply adapts to consumers, not for consumers to have to adapt to their machines. Our AddWash™ range reflects Samsung’s commitment to marrying beautiful design and practical innovations to create appliances that help be more efficient”.
Ashwin Gouveia - Senior Product Manager – Laundry (Samsung UK)

Testers:
Once your machine has arrived, please tell us:

  1. What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?
  2. Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using?

After having a few days to test your machine, we’d love to know:
  3. Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
  4. How is this machine different to your previous model?

Finally, now that you’ve had your machine for over a week, please tell us:
  5. What is your favourite feature and why?
  6. Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?

Please also add your review to the Mumsnet reviews section here.

Non – testers, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, please answer the following question:
If you could add a magic feature to your washing machine, what life-changing function would it have? Would it make your clothes magically repel creases, or hang up your clothes automatically? Would it have a super quick wash cycle for those nights where someone urgently needs a clean PE kit? Would it have a sensor to locate those odd socks?

Whatever your idea, please post it as a comment below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 love2shop voucher.

No creases even on the cottons setting.
A gadget that checks all the pockets as you load it.
An alarm that goes off if you mistakenly put something red in your white wash. I hate it when things go pink!

When the cycle finishes, I'd love the machine to open the door and push the clothes out, then no-one could say they never knew it was finished, and would save me standing waiting for it to unlock. If it then closed the door and ran a rinse/clean function, that would be great :)

I've had mine for 5 days now so here's part 2
3)Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
Yes, everything's came out clean and smelling great. I've tried several of the wash cycles and so far it's coped with the kids sickness bug and a wet bed! Clothes come out practically dry on the 1400 spin cycle and creases seem pretty minimal.

4)How is this machine different to your previous model?

This machine is far superior to the old one! Firstly it looks better, the controls look great and it makes noises when your selecting washes and plays a tune when it's finished.
The machine has a light in it so you can see what your doing. The add wash feature is brilliant and used most washes.

The Samsung also has a child lock which my old one didn't. I have a two year old who adores pressing buttons, the lock stops him changing the cycle but he discovered very quickly if he turns it on and off he can start the cycle again from the start which is annoying.

This machine has a much larger drum capacity, my old one was 9kg and this is 12kg. With 5 children s bigger machine is cutting down on the number of loads slightly.

Other things are the fact it weighs your washing and adjusts as necessary. It has a loads of different wash cycles including ones for bedding, baby stuff, outdoor clothes. It's quick wash is 59 minutes which is half an hour longer then on my old machine.

The samsung also has the wifi and can be controlled from the app. I haven't set this up yet and I'm not sure how much I would actually use it but I'll try it over the next couple of days and feed back on it next time.

(Jealous!) Non Tester -
Magic feature - a drying function?! (I realise such magic does actually exist!). Failing that - magically putting the washing away, please. My very least favourite job.

If you could add a magic feature to your washing machine, what life-changing function would it have?

It would collect all the laundry from my teenager sons' floordrobes, pair the socks and wash the lot before putting the clothes away in an actual wardrobe.

Either a self cleaning machine or one which identified stains still present!

Non tester-my magic function would be folding all of the clothes after they'd washed. It would eject a perfect cube of folded laundry.

Non-tester

Two of my dreams are already true - the add wash and the app. I'm a laundry-dropping gadget freak!

But for my other wish I'd love a machine that sucks up all the dirty washing from the mad corners of the house that my family hid it in so that I don't have to keep traipsing round yelling for dirty clothes. That's the worst part of washing. Once it's clean I don't mind it!

My magic feature would be a special gadget to untangle shirt arms. It drives me mad when I do a load of shirts and have to spend ages unknotting the arms which have got tangled during the wash. Smile

Now that I have had my machine for about 4 days now,

3)Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
Yes, the washes are in line with my previous washing machine. In fact, the time taken for the washes has been reduced to one-forth compared to my previous washing machine. Moreover, with its large capacity (12 kg compared to my previous 7 kg) the number of washes has been reduced with perfect clean clothes.

4)How is this machine different to your previous model?
As written above, the time difference (with the lowest being 30 min) and number of washes was a great change. So, energy saving and reduced bills. Adding to it, the "Addwash" feature makes it easy to add any extras in between the washes. The light inside the drum makes it easier for using the AddDoor.
My previous one did not have any display screen, child lock or the "smart" control (app-based control). This machine has it all. The "child lock" function makes me feel safe in a household of two small kids. Not to forget the self-weighing, eco-drum clean and self-diagnosis function which means that the machine is built keeping in mind that it should be able to take care of itself. This machine has so many built in feature that makes me feel that I am more interacting with it more than I did with my previous one.

I would like a sensor to notify me if there was a stray dark sock in a light wash or vice versa! Or if the remote control was in the middle of the bedsheets... basically anything that is going to get ruined or damage anything else by being in that particular wash.

Non Tester: I would love a machine that could brush items before washing them. So for example, if I put the pet blankets in, they would be shaken and brushed of all the hairs, and then just given a quick freshen up with a wash. I spend so much sodding time shaking out rugs and blankets and still they are covered in hair when they come out of the machine.

Tester -
1)What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?
I love the look of the Samsung AddWash, it is totally different to any machine I've ever owned. You can tell it is a premium machine with the slick display and big large black glass door. The drum is also enormous and I'm excited to really try out the 12kg capacity. The dispenser drawer is integrated really well and very sturdy too and this adds to it feel of being a luxury model.

2)Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using?
Of course the AddWash feature is the first one that strikes you and it is as good as you expect it to be but for me the other exciting features are the ecobubble technology which sucks air into the machine and mixes with the detergent (which you need loads less of, so big money savings on this) and the bubbles penetrate the clothes and wash them better even in cold temperatures and also the self clean cycle. I can't believe that every 40 washes the machine will remind me to run a self-clean cycle and I don't need to add any product, it just takes care of itself. This is a Godsend.

3)Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
I am super pleased with the machine. My favourite cycle is the Super speed which gives a thorough wash in just 59 minutes and is still eco. I couldn't believe that you could wash on cold setting and the clothes still come back clean but you really can and depending on which cycle you choose you can set the temperature at cold, 20, 30, 40, 60 or 95 and also choose the number of rinses and the RPM of the spin cycles.

The 12kg drum also makes a difference as you can wash more at a time and do washes less often. This drum is big enough for my king size duvet which is a fist ever for me.

4)How is this machine different to your previous model?
My previous model was quite basic so this one differs a lot. It has the bigger drum, AddWash facility to add clothes in once the washing has commenced (or fabric conditioner or dedicates for just a final rinse) and numerous specialists cycles targeted at specific situations or stains - like baby wash, hygiene, bedding, food & drink, active sports, gardening, everyday workwear. There is a cycle for practically every eventuality.

There is also the Smart Control app that you can download onto your phone so you can start the wash any time you like from your phone, whilst at work or shopping etc. It is also a nice feature that if you forget an item in the drum, you get a notification on your phone app to let you know it is there.

The machine is rated A+++ and it is a good feature that you can check out the eco credentials of any wash that you choose to do, so that if being energy and water efficient is important to you, you can see the most suitable wash cycles.

I've mentioned already the self-clean cycle too and this will be a great addition, as I used to wash my machine on very hot with vinegar and I'm not convinced it did it any good. If you find there is an issue you can also use your phone to do a smart check and this will diagnose any problem that might have occurred.

Samsung's new ecobubble technology wasn't present in my last machine either and I'm already seeing savings in the amount of detergent I use in the machine as well as really clean clothes as the bubbles have done their job. I haven't tried out the Bubblehold facility yet but this gives an extra 30 minutes of bubble infusion to get any stains out.

Non-tester - something that could detect and remove 'foreign bodies' from pockets (crumpled tissues, loose change, sweet wrappers, dried out chewing gum, hairbands...) before the wash starts. How many times has a 'darks' wash being ruined (with a rewash required) by tiny bits of 'washed tissue' all over the clothes - my bugbear. And pretty sure that loose change, paperclips etc...are generally not good for the longevity of a washing machine

My request is pretty simple - a dryer which does not crease clothes. It sounds like it should be possible, but alas, no.

Non-tester - I'd go for the super-quick wash option every time, preferably one with a massively high spin cycle to dry the heck out of it in emergencies.

Gutted to miss out on the washing machine...
I am a bit of a clean freak and I know that behind the draw (when you take it out) it's a total mouldy gross mess but no matter how many cleaning spins and how far I reach I can never clean it! I wish I had a washing machine that was super clean.

I would love a self cleaning liquid / powder insertion area. It gets so clogged up with soggy powder it would be really helpful if it cleaned itself.

Empty the filter without having to wrestle it once it has drenched you.

I'd design a magic washing machine that had a ying yang style drum so one half could be coloured, and one half could be white, and both sides came out perfectly clean and kept their perfect colour!

Report
LittleMoonbuggy · 08/12/2016 16:42

Non tester:

My perfect feature would be a quick wash function that also has a high spin, as my machine's quick wash cycle leaves the clothes sopping wet and have to be given an extra spin.

I don't mind doing laundry. There's a certain zen to it. As for the machine itself, I'd have a self-cleaning detergent tray and self-cleaning sump.
