This thread is for the Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the AddWash™ WW8500 Washing Machine.

Here’s what Samsung have to say: “We wanted a washing machine that simply adapts to consumers, not for consumers to have to adapt to their machines. Our AddWash™ range reflects Samsung’s commitment to marrying beautiful design and practical innovations to create appliances that help be more efficient”.
Ashwin Gouveia - Senior Product Manager – Laundry (Samsung UK)

Testers:
Once your machine has arrived, please tell us:

  1. What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?
  2. Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using?

After having a few days to test your machine, we’d love to know:
  3. Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
  4. How is this machine different to your previous model?

Finally, now that you’ve had your machine for over a week, please tell us:
  5. What is your favourite feature and why?
  6. Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?

Please also add your review to the Mumsnet reviews section here.

Non – testers, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, please answer the following question:
If you could add a magic feature to your washing machine, what life-changing function would it have? Would it make your clothes magically repel creases, or hang up your clothes automatically? Would it have a super quick wash cycle for those nights where someone urgently needs a clean PE kit? Would it have a sensor to locate those odd socks?

Whatever your idea, please post it as a comment below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 love2shop voucher.

a magical feature? Something that matches together football kits. I put in 2 socks... shorts, tops and skins.. and always lose one element somewhere. Be good for school uniforms too; as invariably someone hasn't got something.

I think the add wash is an amazing idea, especially as I had to stop my washing machine this morning and hope that it would unlock to add some socks I found after the wash started! I do a ridiculous amount of laundry with 9 kids and always something turns up after the machine has started!

What I would like is more shorter washes as I always have an endless queue of piles of sorted laundry waiting for the machine to become free!

I'd also like some anti-microbial/anti-fungal lining to the detergent drawer casing because if I use fabric softener then the drawer just grows a lot of thick black mould over time on the roof of where the drawer is in the machine. I now get round this by not using fabric softener or I add a tiny amount of the fabric softener in with the normal detergent to get the scent, but I don't want to risk another mouldy machine again!

I'd also like a warning sound and message and the ability to rearrange the laundry if it has become off balance just before it's final spin out. The machine should be almost clear of water anyway so it wouldn't be an issue. I'd like to be able to re-arrange the machine contents so that it can do a full speed proper spin, rather than it do a half-hearted effort and I have to run the spin program again afterwards (which adds more time on before I can get the next load going!) I find when washing a batch of towels (and not over-loaded either) they can get wrapped round each other and prevent a proper full speed spin-out due to the weight being off balance!

Also more than anything I would like the door to be able to be opened immediately if the water level is acceptable to do so. I hate the door lock bit because I feel it makes me wait unnecessary time when I'm really busy and can't afford to do so and it seems pointless if the water level is low enough.

My magical feature would be that my washing machine could turn clothes the right way, if they are inside out...particularly socks! I spend more time sorting inside out clothes (because I can't be bothered doing it before it goes in the wash) than on any other aspect of the washing (ironing aside). I would LOVE it if someone could invent this!

An automatic out clothes away function combined with one that throws away holey/spare/ruined clothes to prevent me not noticing and putting on shrunk tops or holey tights!

For my special feature, I'd like magical repairs and alterations! Put something in, it comes out not only clean but looking as good as new and fitting perfectly. Grin (Advanced settings needed to stop one family member's clothes being accidentally altered to fit another, I suspect!)

If it could put the washing away after I would be so so so happy! I don't mind sorting the washing, getting into the machine and washed, taking it out and on the airer / washing line / into tumble drier, but I really really dislike having to put the clothes away after.

A complete 'wash & fabric condition & dry & iron' system, where clothes come out as if they have been professionally dry-cleaned.

The magical features that I would like on my machine are the ability to put the clothes away for me and to keep socks in pairs! I never seem to have the time to keep up with the washing and I'm always loosing socks!!

A washing machine that somehow folded the sheets - and left them free of creases. Improbable, but would be useful!

I'd like a magical feature that either opens the door once it's finished to stop things getting musty, or one that texts you approx 6 hours after the wash is finished to remind you to take it out if it looks like you've forgotten. It's so annoying if you have to re wash a load and feels really wasteful, but sometimes I forget I've put a wash on (and our machine isn't in the kitchen). My partner occasionally puts a load on, then leaves it in there without me knowing.

5)What is your favourite feature and why?

That's a tough one. The AddWash is the obvious choice, I can't believe how often I've used it! It's such a simple idea that I can't believe it hasn't been done before. However, I also love the fact that the machine weighs the load and automatically works out the washing time. This has led to much shorter wash times than my last machine and means that I don't feel bad about putting a small load of just a few things in, I know it is washing them efficiently so I don't feel I need to wait for a full load to make it energy efficient.
6)Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?
Yes, definitely, but only one that I thought could afford to spend £999 on a washing machine! It is a lot of money and I'm not sure if there is enough of a difference between this and a £500 machine to justify the cost. However, if cost isn't an issue then I think this is a fabulous machine. Clothes come out feeling and smelling really clean and fresh, and also almost dry thanks to the fast spin speed so drying time is vastly reduced. It is very energy efficient and quick and the extra features are well thought out and useful.

I'd like my washing machine to remind the DCs not to put clothes that have only been worn a short while straight in the washing! Such a waste. I'd also like a soap feature where I didn't have to refill every wash. So I could bung a whole load in and then forget about measuring it all out.

Non tester- agree with all the others about cleaning out the drawer and seal. Mine is grim with black mound that just won't shift. I think it must be from when I used to start a load at night then empty in the morning. Dry cleaning function would be good!

Perhaps not so much magical as achievable...

Wash everything in it without any delicates getting damaged without splitting up into different wash types!

Tester -

1)What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?

When the washing machine arrived I was instantly impressed with it, aesthetically. It looks modern but simple and the huge stylish black glass door cannot be missed. I was instantly intrigued by the addition of the Addwash door within the washing machine door and the clear display of the LED digital screen. The machine is very clearly 'high end' and a quality build but doesn't look too complicated to use.

2)Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using?

The AddWash feature sounds like a great addition and despite being quite a simple feature, it's really quite a clever idea. I also like the sound of the BubbleSoak feature, it sounds very clever, no more hanging round waiting for pre wash stain removal.

The ecobubble™ Technology also sounds like a great idea. I'm interested in anything that can save me money and they fact it's supposed to help reduce electricity bills and the amount of detergent you use, sounds fab.

Probably the most exciting for me (and my husband) was the Smart Home Washer App - yes, you really can control your washing machine by use of an app. It's amazing how advanced technology now.

3)Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?

The machine is great. It seems to be gentle on clothing and I feel confident that our laundry is being cleaned as well as protected. My laundry comes out smelling fresh with no stains at all. I love the unique cyles and options available and I feel like there really is something for every washing requirement.

4)How is this machine different to your previous model?

Whilst my last machine wasn't bad, this one blows it's socks off. It's fast, extremely quiet and sits in the kitchen looking very pretty. The range of cycles and functions is huge and it is by far the quietest machine I have ever used. This machine offers much more than my last, my clothes feel cleaner and I'm happier to use less detergent and be able to use cool washing cycles.

5)What is your favourite feature and why?

It's hard to choose as there are so many great additions, but I really like the ecobubble™ Technology. It's dramatically reduced the amount of detergent I need to use but my clothes feel amazingly fresh and clean. I also think the Addwash is a fab idea. It's such a simple idea but a total game changer, it means no more random forgotten socks etc.

6)Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?

I would definitely recommend the machine. My experience has been positive and I am really happy to have been chosen to review it. I have nothing negative to say about it's functions, quality or the standard of the washes it offers. I think the price may put some consumers off but you really do get what you pay for.

I would love a washing machine that alerts me when it is raining and time to fetch the washing back in off the line, better still one that hangs the washing out and fetches it back in when it is dry or raining! Realistically I would like a machine that can tell that the water is not clear yet and keep rinsing until it is.

I would love a stain removal function on my magical washing machine for the likes of blood stained clothes for example - just throw them in, state what the stain wash and it would wash them at the right temperature or dispense the correct stain removal product (natural or man made). My real magical dream machine would have been when I used washable nappies however - a section of the machine where I could have put the nappies into soak and then they automatically got washed when there was a full load without having touch them again!

Tester and I've now had the machine over a week -

5)What is your favourite feature and why?
All round the machine is excellent and I'm hard pushed to choose a favourite feature but if I think about what I have used most it is the super speed wash. Just 59 minutes with ecobubbles to really penetrate the clothes and make them clean in a short, low temperature wash. it is brilliant.

6)Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?
Indeed I would, the large drum is a massive bonus and means you can do less washes in a week and I'm looking forward to washing my king size duvet. Of course the £1000 price tag is hefty but if you have the money then it is seriously worth it and Samsung do the same machine with smaller drums for considerably less if you need to be more economical with your money.

My magical machine would put everything away. That would be a great timesaver (and avoid the common confusion of trying to guess if the clothes on my airer are still damp or just cold!)
