This thread is for the Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the AddWash™ WW8500 Washing Machine.

Here’s what Samsung have to say: “We wanted a washing machine that simply adapts to consumers, not for consumers to have to adapt to their machines. Our AddWash™ range reflects Samsung’s commitment to marrying beautiful design and practical innovations to create appliances that help be more efficient”.
Ashwin Gouveia - Senior Product Manager – Laundry (Samsung UK)

Testers:
Once your machine has arrived, please tell us:

  1. What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?
  2. Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using?

After having a few days to test your machine, we’d love to know:
  3. Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why?
  4. How is this machine different to your previous model?

Finally, now that you’ve had your machine for over a week, please tell us:
  5. What is your favourite feature and why?
  6. Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?

Please also add your review to the Mumsnet reviews section here.

Non – testers, for the chance to win a £300 voucher, please answer the following question:
If you could add a magic feature to your washing machine, what life-changing function would it have? Would it make your clothes magically repel creases, or hang up your clothes automatically? Would it have a super quick wash cycle for those nights where someone urgently needs a clean PE kit? Would it have a sensor to locate those odd socks?

Whatever your idea, please post it as a comment below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 love2shop voucher.

    Standard Insight T&Cs Apply
    Thanks,
    MNHQ

Dry and fold them (ability to magically transport them to the wardrobe would be too sweet)

A function that detected an oil leak and stopped it before it went into the drum and ruined the clothes in there. A text to say the wash had finished and a reminder if the door hadn't been opened later. A decibel monitor so if it got too loud in the night that it paused. Sensors to detect a leak and stop it pumping water all over the floor. A dispenser drawer with no impossible to clean nooks and cranny. Possibly a step too far.... but an actual pair of hands inside the drum to fool jumpers into thinking they are being hand-washed and prevent the shrinking.

Non tester. Ooh I'd like a machine to split up the tumble-able items from the non tumble-able items. (Those are real words of course)

Non tester- the magic feature I would love would be a way to ensure that when I put my socks in that the same amount come back out. I have a carrier bag with odd socks in that are perfectly good apart from their partner in (foot) crime has gone missing!

Non tester- another vote for the self cleaning cycle. Also a drying cycle that doesn't break my machine- all my washer/dryers seem to break. Ironing function would be good too!

And for the final questions,

5)What is your favourite feature and why?
My favourite features are

  1. AddWash as it looks innovative and something that is needed for forgetful people like me.
  2. Eco-Bubble as it has interesting technology concept and is also energy-efficient.
  3. Smart Control as it is easy, convenient to use on the go and is the future for many devices used in the home.

6)Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend the Samsung AddWash WW8500 to a friend because it saves me time and a lot of energy (A+++ rating) due to its big drum holding about 12 kgs thereby reducing the number of times I would run the machine for washing in a week. Hence reduced bills. It also boasts a number of high-end and useful features like AddWash, Eco-Bubble, VRT plus technology, Smart Control (through Smart Home app) and Smart check feature that I have already mentioned in my previous message here. Not to forget the Digital Inverter technology for low noise along with a 10 year warranty. It is the best machine I have ever owned.

Is it possible to have a machine that can stop the colour running from my cheap red towels?
Ds is an occasional bedwetter and his waterproof sheets are now pink. Not a good look for a 7 year old and definitely not something he wants to be on iOS if his mates come over.
I'd like a way to dry stuff without turning my house into a Chinese laundry! I always have the bloody airer up. It drives me bonkers Confused

My magic feature would be that the machine senses how much detergent is needed for each wash and then takes the correct amount from a pre-filled compartment.

Oooooh I'd have a machine that located your dirty washing for you, whether it's in the laundry basket or stuffed under the teenagers bed and magically transported it into the machine, added the powders then turned itself on. Bliss!

Non tester. For me it would be that it's easy to clean, I.e. minimise nooks and crannies where mould can build up, and minimise water hold up within the drum/ dispenser drawer to prevent mould. I've got a mould allergy and it's a pain to keep the machine dried out between loads and clean enough.

Non tester. Removal of cat/dog hair would be magic for me! Black clothes seem to attract white hair and cling stubbornly to it

1)What are your first impressions of how the machine looks?
The machine looks big - big door for easy access and very new, white and shiny. The screen is easy to read.

2)Having read the instruction manual, which features are you most excited about using? The different cycles - the extra speciality cycles (like gardening, children's clothes, cooking) seem like a good idea. Bedding seems like another useful cycle.

3)Are you pleased with how the machine washes? Why? The machine seems very quiet and I love that - it's in our kitchen which means the noise level is very important. Clothes seem to come out well spun which reduces how heavy they are when I take them to hang them up. The large drum means that items are less creased when I take them out.

4)How is this machine different to your previous model? The light inside the drum is really useful - no more leaving one dark sock behind. It is also much quieter. The large drum helps me do less washes which must be greener and saves me time, with my old machine I often had to do two dark washes back to back (we somehow generate a lot of dark washing). With 3 teens and 2 adults we also have lots of towels and bedding to wash each week, bigger loads mean less waiting around for washes to finish.

5)What is your favourite feature and why? The large drum, the ease of choosing the cycle - quite a few really. I haven't used the Samsung app yet to set the machine off or check how far along the cycle is as my phone is being repaired but I'm really looking forwards to being to load it up at night and being able to set it off as soon as I wake up - if I wash & dry my hair I reckon a load will be done before I go downstairs in the morning.

6)Would you recommend the Samsung AddWash™ WW8500 to a friend? Why? Yes - I have been very impressed with it. I wouldn't have tried a Samsung washing machine without this opportunity, so I'm really pleased to discover how good it is. I have uploaded a little clip of it filling up with water so you can hear how quiet it is. You can see from the icon of a tee-shirt with a + sign that I can still add additional items using the Add Door. The little black dimple is the button you push to release the Add Door (you have to press pause first).

Gutted I never got to test, so jealous! From the first time I saw the TV advert I have wanted one of these. So many times I will put the wash on and then come across a random sock from my daughter's favourite pair or a pair of pants etc. The addwash feature probably is the life changing feature I would want in a machine. However I would also like them to come in grey or black colour rather than white.

UpOnDown · 09/12/2016 15:04

Non-tester: I would have a way for the machine to fold and put away my clothes.

roundandroundthehouses · 09/12/2016 15:05

Non-tester. I'd add an alarm that goes off any time I add a load that's missing an item of school uniform that didn't make it into the laundry basket. I'm considering also adding a feature that tips a bucket of water over the child responsible, but that would be cruel.

Report
WuTangFlan · 09/12/2016 15:06

Non-tester: If the washing machine could self-sort the clothes, e.g. know whose black socks are whose that would be marvellous.

roundandroundthehouses · 09/12/2016 15:07

(This would be an enhancement to the AddWash feature, allowing for the fact than in our house I never seem to find the missing things until Monday morning.)

It would have a holding section where you could add a second load. Once the initial load was finished it would come down a shoot into the pre-programmed tumble drier and the next load would go into the washing machine and begin it's pre-programmed wash.

Most definitely be a super quick wash and dry when you need something in a hurry

CopperPan · 09/12/2016 17:13

Non tester. I'd like a feature to scan through the load and check for stray coloured items that are likely to bleed colour over my white sheets!

WhereYouLeftIt · 09/12/2016 18:10

Non-tester.

I would like my washing machine to be able to tell me that I had mistakenly put something white in with the darks (and vice versa). Or a lambswool jumper in with a cotton load.

none tester - i would love to add the magical feature of a sensor that would let me know if there are any kids toys in the machine before it put it on! the amount of times iv picked up the clothes popped on the machine to see a car or duplo block by then its too late and the machine is on!

Non tester.

This may be unique to me, but I would like a washing machine which, somehow, did not attract my 1 year old to suck the rubber seal. Because my current one does and it is DISGUSTING.

This may be a problem with the 1 year old, rather than the machine!
