This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

i think my final feedback was covered in my previous post but to reiterate: i really liked the product but the smell definitely puts me off (and i haven't got used to it - i feel like i dislike it more now than when i first started using it). i have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works and i like having a spray bottle rather than a roll-on or aerosol. i haven't had any issues with sensitivity with it, which has been great. thank you for the opportunity to test :)

doctorboo · 24/10/2016 12:03

I've had to stop using the spray as I've found a lump in my armpit. I still found the runny consistency a bit off putting, I haven't mastered an even layer, so to speak, and my pits still smell Blush probably not as much as not Using deodorant, but I am stinky. I think if you want to do for a natural deo it's worth giving this a go.

ohyesitis · 24/10/2016 16:30

I have been very impressed with this deodorant! I really liked the fact that it was a pump and not an aerosol, as I find aerosol sprays can affect my breathing.

My underarms had become a little itchy during my pregnancy, and the deodorant I was previously using, which was also meant for sensitive skin did not improve. Since using Pirtok, this issue has completely subsided.

Fragrance smelt a little 1980's, but I felt the smell didn't linger, so wasn't an issue for me.

I found the deodorant very effective and did not get sweaty or smelly in situations where I previously would have.

Something small that could be improved on is the lids were a little difficult to open after applying moisturiser etc after my shower. Maybe adding a grip to the lid or changing to a screw top would be better.

Would definitely recommend for sensitive skin.

sianishere · 24/10/2016 18:23

My final thoughts on PitROK are that I absolutely love it and am totally converted. I have heard of natural deoderants and always been unsure, as I do tend to sweat heavily when I am stressed or anxious. I have used Dove and Sure for years, and even those sometimes aren't up to the task.

With PitROK I have remained fresh and dry throughout the day, no matter what I have been up to. Even after going for a run, I was a little damp but not smelly. I have had no irritation from it, which I usually do from other deoderants during pregnancy as my skin gets so sensitive.

I like that it has no fragrance, as most fragrances have been triggering morning sickness or headaches, or both.

I think I'd prefer a roll on version as it is a bit of a faff aiming the spray and then waiting for it to dry so that's something I'll need to investigate.

Overall though, it is a big thumbs up from me!

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

I thought it was pretty effective considering its free of nasties. I definitely still smell a little bit after sweating despite using it for a number of weeks. It's not offensive though. I perspire a lot but that doesn't bother me.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation? I have suffered in the past but not recently so it hasn't made any difference.

I intend to stick with this product even though I find it a bit tricky to apply. Love that it's chemical free.

tinker78 · 25/10/2016 11:53

I have been very impressed with this deodorant. It works, it lasts, and it's gentle. I've been able to use it after having my armpits waxed. I've not been aware of an bo at all at any time despite getting hot and bothered with my three small children. The only negative is the bottle. It looks nice, but I have to make sure I keep screwing it closed. I took it in my toilet bag when we went away for a long weekend, and while it didn't leak as such, the bottle was very damp with the contents of it. Also, the double caps are a pain (a silly thing to be bothered by I realise).

9.5 / 10, just let down by the escaping moisture. I will definitely purchase. Thanks.

flipflump · 25/10/2016 16:53

Final thoughts on Pitrok

I'm converted, I've got used to the spray, smell and initial dampness. My eczema no longer flares and the red blotchiness is no longer. It's ideal on my skin but I would like to try a fragranced version for added freshness.

GruffaloPants · 25/10/2016 17:01

I felt the deodorant was effective for most situations. I used it for high intensity exercise and found it completely reliable. It felt nice going on.

I missed, however, having an antiperspirant when wearing certain colours of clothes (particularly light grey). This caused me to stop using it as it isn't clear if you can mix and match with antiperspirant deodorants, and I had the impression you can't.

I didn't have any problems with irritation at any time.

ChickenNurturer · 25/10/2016 17:13

My final feedback is similar to my initial thoughts.
I really like the product concept and find the minimal fragrance a welcome change. Improved my skin irritation somewhat although did sting sometimes after shaving underarms. Really like not reduced chemical component and on days where I can step in if sweating gets out of hand and wash it would be my first choice every time.
The only things I don't like are the slightly over-enthusiastic spray feature, the drying time after application and the fact that I can't quite trust it for a long work day without the safety net of being able to reapply more on top! However, this has improved as my body has adapted so I'm hopeful that in time I can relax more about this.

lebkucken · 25/10/2016 19:29

My initial thoughts on this product were mostly positive, aside from the two caps. I'm still largely impressed and would buy it in the future. I think I mentioned on the previous thread but I wish I'd thought about natural deodorant when breastfeeding.
I do think for me Pitrock was slightly less effective than normal deodorant. I noticed this when wearing synthetics and also if I didn't wash directly before use (as the instructions state).
Sensitive skin was not too much of an issue for me before but I'd say my under arm skin is definitely less dry now.

katyk81 · 25/10/2016 20:06

Thank you for picking me to trial this product, it was interesting to try something new.

What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
I liked the idea of it being natural and fragrance free and found that it dried well enough, it was perfectly fine most days but I found I felt a bit sticky on busier days and ended up resorting to doubling up with my normal antiperspirant after showers which seems rather pointless so don't think it will be a long term solution for me.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?
On a positive note this had no negative effect on my skin unlike some brands. I would consider suggesting it if someone with sensitive skin was searching for a solution but would struggle to actively recommend it based on my own experience.

Thank you for picking me to be involved though

Flackgirl · 25/10/2016 20:26

I liked the packaging, although IMO the name is awful. I wasn't keen on the fragrance (or lack thereof) but the product worked perfectly well. I probably wouldn't use it day-to-day because I prefer a fragranced deodorant but I would consider using during pregnancy and breastfeeding because of the lack of harsh chemicals.

Mar15mite · 25/10/2016 21:03

Mine had leaked in the envelope so the bottle was wet and sticky before I even started which wasn't a great start.

Not keen on the smell or the fact it goes on so wet, felt like I had to wander around for ages with my arms in the air before getting dressed (which is time I really don't have as a new mum)

I didn't have any irritation but I didn't feel it was that effective as it didn't keep me 'fresh' (i haven't got a deodorant that does do this for me right now though)

I'm afraid I wouldn't buy this first off because I would assume it goes on too wet (even if I hadn't tested it)

Missydurrani · 25/10/2016 22:17
  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
I am actually quite impressed as I was a bit sceptical to start with. Love the fact that it's natural and doesn't irritate my skin. It's good for normal routine but it wouldn't help me much during the hectic days when I sweat a lot.
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?
Yes definitely as my skin isn't irritated anymore and I don't feel itchiness as I used to feel before this.
AprilLoveJ · 26/10/2016 14:33

I shall definitely purchase and use this as a day to day deodorant - it kept me comfirtabky dry and odour free, although it took some getting used to the wet feeling I admit. That aspect didn't bother me so much in the summer but now it's cold I've noticed it takes longer to dry fully. Still, it's a small price to pay for an effective natural deodorant free of nasties.

I will say however that I do suffer from social anxiety which causes me to sweat excessively - I noticed the Pitrock wasn't fully protecting me on those kind of occasions, I doubt there is much that could however! Therefore I think I shall stick to Driclor for those kind of occasions (even though that is extremely irritating!!!) and use the Pitrock day to day.

Overall I'm quite pleased at how effective it is especially considering it is a natural product, and I've already recommended it to others who are keen on natural things. It has been very kind to my skin indeed. Thanks for letting me try this out.

AddictedToRadley · 27/10/2016 02:02
  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

To be honest I didn't expect a lot from it. I honestly thought that you'd have to pay over the odds for a natural product that actually works. I was pleasantly surprised to find that in everyday situations this works really well. I would prefer something fragranced I think as I wasn't too keen on the smell. On the whole I would say that PitRok Extra Sensitive is very effective for a reasonably priced natural deodorant.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

When I apply PitRok Extra Sensitive I don't get that 'stingy burning' feeling that I get with aerosols. I also don't have to worry about the powdery mess which ruins your clothes that you get with some spray on deodorants. I didn't think I had any problems with my regular deodorant until I switched to PitRok and now I know I that I did! I'm still not used to a pump spray deodorant but if I can continue with it and get used to it then I would definitely consider switching permanently.
PitRok Extra Sensitive, you rock!

IlonaRN · 27/10/2016 11:53

On first application, I thought the product was far too wet. I needed about 6 sprays on each armpit in order to cover the whole area, and this meant that the deodorant, which is the same consistency as water, ran down my body.
After a couple of days, I realised that holding the spray further from my body means that a lighter coverage is applied to a larger area, so it became more comfortable.

IlonaRN · 27/10/2016 12:03

After extensive use, I have found that the product dries reasonably quickly (not just two minutes as suggested, but maybe five minutes).

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
The product works well for "home" days. I started using this deodorant while still on maternity leave, and (as long as I let it dry before putting clothes on!) did not notice any smell during the day. However, I have since returned to work, and it does not work well enough for a "work" day. I therefore now use PitROK for "home" days and another deodorant (also natural) for "work" days. This appears to work for me so far!
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?
PitROK caused me no irritation at all. I can even use it immediately after epilating my underarms, and there is still no irritation.

The combination of PitROK on "home" days where I have time to wait for it to dry, and another deodorant on "work" days, or when I don't have time for it to dry is how I will continue for the time being.

I am very grateful for being included in the test panel, as I wouldn't have tried this deodorant otherwise!

Crackers83 · 27/10/2016 12:22

I really liked this deoderant and felt it suited my sensitive skin. It had a delicate fragrance and kept me feeling fresh. I had my baby shortly after receiving the product so it's been a bit chaotic hence late response but I really felt the product was effective and overall good to use!

MrsBarlow · 27/10/2016 12:28

I've enjoyed testing this product and have given it a fair go - however i didn't find it particularly worked for me! I couldn't' really get past the wet feeling - i used less as suggested, always used after showers etc but still felt it too wet and therefore not comfortable. If i had time for it to dry slightly it worked better - however i generally don't in the morning as it's quite a busy and rushed time!

One thing i did notice that was a positive was that i had no skin issues with this product - it didn't cause irritation even after shaving which was a big bonus for someone with sensitive skin.

cookiefiend · 27/10/2016 12:43

I realise I have posted a couple of times about this, but not yet answered the questions.

This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Loved it- I have tried a few natural ones and need a bit underwhelmed. I have stuck with it as I am breastfeeding and worry about harsh chemicals, but I feel self conscious about it. This stuff was brilliant- really worked and I will be buying it again (once I work out where I can find it!)

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

Under my arms weren't too bad, but I do think the skin seems better.

Thanks for this test- nIce to find a product I like.

CheeseandGherkins · 27/10/2016 13:08

I really didn't like the smell, it reminded me of beconase nasal spray, which was very offputting for a deodorant. I also had an issue with it crysallizing round the edge, as someone else did.

I thought the double lid was a little unnecessary but overall liked the packaging.

It did help with sensitivity and it was fairly effective but I'm not sure I would stick with it long term.

I did enjoy testing but am still undecided as to whether I'd use it again.

TormundGiantsbabe · 27/10/2016 13:09
  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

As I'm breastfeeding, I am keen to use natural products where possible. The product was effective as a deodorant so overall I am very satisfied.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

I have not had any negative effects while using the product, so iit hasn't irritated me - which is good!

Bubbinsmakesthree · 27/10/2016 13:51

I'm still using Pitrok every day and I'm very very pleased with it - performs much better than I ever believed a 'natural' deodorant would do and I'm a complete convert.

I don't experience any of the itchy, clogged-pore feeling I used to get with my old anti-perspirants and none of the flaky residue.

Generally I feel it keeps me fresher than my normal products and I've not had any problems with perspiration which was surprising to me as I thought a deodorant alone wouldn't be effective.

Unlike some other testers I've not had an problems with the smell - I notice a very mild smell when first applied but it fades immediately. I also don't have a problem with drying time - I apply it straight after showering and it has dried by the time I've walked to the next room to get dressed.

No going back to standard anti-perspirants for me. I might try some other natural deodorants on the market for comparison (there's an Aesop one I'd had my eye on before I started this product test) but I'm definitely a fan - my old roll-ons have gone in the bin!

kelsuprise · 27/10/2016 16:24

I was very impressed with this product. I appreciated that it had no real discernible odour and was very easy to apply. I am very sensitive to deodorants and have suffered irritation from other products. This totally did not irritate my skin and any irritation I had from a previous high street brand seemed to dissappear. Would most definitely recommend this product.
