This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

Coming back to give my final feedback- I'm a total convert and won't ever go back to unnatural (?) deodorants! At first I struggled with the smell & described it as being like a sneeze... I no longer get that, it seems completely unfragranced now. It definitely works... I've always been really sweaty with a tendency to getting BO. But I've had no issues at all with this. The condition of my armpits has also improved. I'd always assumed shaving had made my underarms feel rough but I actually think it was my deodorant. My armpits are now really soft with no irritation. My only gripe would be the double lid. I'll definitely be buying this again in future, thanks for introducing it!

MimiDiddy · 19/10/2016 21:03

I found the deodorant to be effective at keeping the smells at bay on an average day, but not quite enough on really hot or stressful days. I also found I got a bit damp but not smelly, I don't necessarily find that a problem, it just took a bit of getting used too. I found the spray application to take a little time to dry and would prefer it if it dried quicker and had a mild fragrance.

I have suffered with some underarm irritation in the past but not since using this deodorant. I'd be happy to carry on using this deodorant and hope it goes on sale before my tester bottle runs out.

cityrat79 · 19/10/2016 21:17

Yes, my armpits are definitely smoother, which surprised me.

I hate the name Pitrok though. I'm all for calling a spade a spade, but I wouldn't talk to my children about "pits"; I'd call them "armpits". "Pit" sounds a bit colloquial and stinky!

It's lasting really well - am mostly impressed.

Ilikesweetpeas · 19/10/2016 22:06

I found the product to be effective in that I didn't smell ! Also only felt damp on very hot days so it's great for most of the year. What I didn't like was how wet I felt when applying it, and the smell. For me I'd use a natural deodorant but prefer the rock salt crystal ones. Thanks for the opportunity to test this

Whitecoatsyndrome · 19/10/2016 22:24

Just to add my final feedback, I've been using the deodorant for several weeks now and I'm pleased with it overall. I've found that I seem to be sweating less and definitely not smelling at the end of the day which is great and has been proven a couple of times when i had to use my previous deodorant and it just wasn't as good. I have found it stings a little after shaving but not for long. The smell is still a little odd - I would prefer a slight scent - citrus or similar perhaps? I have found that it doesn't work as well on skin that is not freshly showered (which they do point out) - so if I have had a shower the previous evening and then used it in the morning, it does seem to be less effective. When it runs out I'll keep an eye out for it, as long as the price isn't too high!

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

My major gripe with the product was how long it took to dry after application - much longer than a minute!
I felt it worked well for half of the day but by lunchtime/mid afternoon I started to feel quite sweaty and by the end of the day I was really conscious that I was smelly! I first started testing the product during the warm weather we had in September and found it didn't provide sufficient odour or perspirant protection. I switched back to traditional anti perspirant about 2.5 weeks in as I couldn't cope with the sweatiness and perceived smelliness anymore. Perhaps I'm just a very sweaty person?!

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

I would say it made a slight difference but I wasn't suffering with under arm irritation at the time of trailing this product.

Zanashar · 20/10/2016 08:33

I've been using this for several weeks now and have found it to be effective enough to use in these less warm months. I'm not quite sure it would be up to use throughout summer though, and I'm not particularly in need of anything heavy duty.
Lovely packcaging and like the non aerosol delivery. A light scent when first sprayed, which isn't unpleasant. I've not had any issues with it drying too slowly so that wasn't an issue for me.
One thing I did find surprising, considering it's sensitive formulation was that on a few occasions I used it straight after I'd shaved my armpits and I must have nicked the skin there, because when I used the Pitrok it really stung! This was very momentary thankfully but for me it's goes down as a negative, though perhaps not enough to never use it again.
Reallyliked the product overall though. Lovely packaging, easy to use and a big plus it being chemical free.

WaitingforaRainbow07 · 20/10/2016 10:06

First reactions were the bottle looked nice, simple packaging. I would prefer a nicer smell, something fresh and clean smelling. It did feel strange spraying it on and I did find it slightly annoying waiting for it to dry but it worked well. My armpits didn't feel irritated at all and it suited my sensitive skin and was an effective antiperspirant. I would purchase if it was a good price.

Elliepurpleflower · 20/10/2016 10:44

My thoughts on its effectiveness -
It would have been interesting to try it in the heat this summer. One or 2 days that were warmer or I was running around a lot I ended up smelling by the end of the day. Most days it was fairly effective, so overal I was quite impressed considering it is natural.

  • on skin sensitivity - I thought the product was very gentle... I didn't get any problems from using it and there was no irritation when I used it after shaving.
TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 20/10/2016 10:54

Final feedback: I really liked this product. It is quick and easy to use, smells nice as it goes on and I've not had any issues with underarm sweatiness since using it. I've also found that the underarm areas of my clothes have basically smelt of nothing even if I've worn them for a few days. And no white residue in clothes either. I have to apply it in front of a mirror as I can't aim the spray properly without being able to see properly. I also probably use too much but there is still plenty left in the bottle. I haven't experienced any skin sensitivity or irritation whilst using it.

I'll look out for it in the shops and will probably buy it although it is about twice as much as the ones I usually buy.

I have used Pitrok crystal deodorant before but found it difficult to apply and not as effective as my usual roll on. This has been easy to use and if anything more effective than my usual roll on. My only niggle is the requirement to use it on freshly washed skin as I don't always have time to shower in the morning before doing the school run.

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 20/10/2016 10:58

Oh and I particularly like the fact that it is a more 'natural' product without anything 'nasty' in the formulation.

Stars2theside · 20/10/2016 12:55

Final Feedback:
After having used this deodorant for several weeks I can honestly say that I'm converted. It sprays on and when dry leaves no residue or greasiness. I also probably use a little bit too sometimes, if I'm spraying in a hurry! But it is not really an issue.
It leaves you feeling fresh, and despite having no official 'scent' it does smell fresh when you spray it.
Perhaps some directions on the bottle as to how many times you should spray each underarm might be useful, as a guideline. Even though I still sweat when I have used it, I do not smell and still feel fresh. I've had no underarm irritation since I started using this. It has made me feel so much more comfortable - I wish I had known about this when I was pregnant, and then when breastfeeding! I will definitely be recommending it to my mum friends, as well as other friends too. It lasts a very long time, and even though it may be a little bit more expensive than other deodorants, it lasts longer so works out cheaper. Plus it's a lot nicer than antiperspirants because you don't get that choking cloud that makes you cough after spraying!
Thanks for letting me be a part of this test!

Whatkindofdayhasitbeen · 20/10/2016 13:08

The product was very gentle & I had no problems with sensitivity while using it. It goes on quite wet, but dries quickly. I like that it has no scent. During my trial I was moving house, so doing lots of heavy lifting etc. I found that it didn't stop me smelling & I ended up keeping a fragrance in the changing bag to apply throughout the day. I'm not a convert unfortunately

ValiaH · 20/10/2016 13:55

Final feedback

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
Initially I quite liked the product, and I liked the concept. However as I continued using it I found its effectiveness wore off. I found that by lunchtime I didn't smell as fresh as I would normally, I and by teatime there was a definite bad smell- not strong enough to reach others but I could smell it on myself. I didn't mind feeling damp if I got a bit sweaty but don't see the point in a deodorant that doesn't deodorise. I have used other natural deodorants which worked better. I wouldn't buy it again, or recommend it to other people.
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

It didn't irritate my skin at all, which is great, however its lack of effectiveness means I'd rather put up with a bit of irritation and feel and smell clean by the end of the day instead of being irritation free and not feeling/ smelling clean.

Steph25x · 20/10/2016 14:53

Final Feedback Questions -

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product? Considering this is a natural product I thought It did pretty well at keeping body odour in check. However I didn't feel it was effective enough to stop a slight pong at then end of a busy day. I felt the spray didn't provide enough coverage and I didn't like the wetness and dripping of the product when applied.
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?
Yes I definitely see an improvement in my underarm skin. It's not quite as irritated and sore. It's a super sensitive natural deodorant on sensitive underarm skin. It kept my skin soothed and irritation at bay after shaving. No more sore, red and stingy underarms. Which was a the biggest positive in my opinion for this product.
Pumble · 20/10/2016 19:30

I really liked this product and found it very effective even after running around all day. I did find it frustrating it had to go on clean skin as I often don't have time for a shower before the school run and wanted to use it then. It was great for my sensitive skin though and cleared up all the irritation.

Backhometothenorth · 20/10/2016 19:41

I found this product non-irritating and effective on my sensitive skin but struggle to get on with the damp feeling on application.

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 20/10/2016 20:03

I thought the product was good as far as being very gentle, no irritation or redness and worked quite well on cooler days when I wasn't doing much. But on the days when I'd been walking a lot it was not effective, and I ended up soaking wet and stinky. I sweat an excessive amount so need quite a strong deodorant, I think for the average person it would be a great product - just not for me unfortunately.

ProbablyMe · 20/10/2016 20:15

I like this product and have found it to be an effective deodorant - even with the hots summer days we had and during a very hot holiday abroad. It wasn't an effective anti perspirant but then again it's doesn't purport for to be being called a deodorant only. It really did stop me smelling sweaty and horrible, I shall probably purchase this again for that reason and also because it didn't irritate me at all which I'm very pleased about. Glad I tested it!

Littlebear88 · 21/10/2016 08:04

I thought the pitrok deodorant was effective for me, I'm 8 weeks post partum and after the initial hot sweats and flushes I found the deodorant was good at keeping me dry and I never noticed any body odour at all. It's nice using a natural product and I haven't thought twice about using this and then breastfeeding my daughter.

My underarm skin is definitely softer. Also don't know if this is a hormonal thing post partum or due to the deodorant but I haven't had to shave my underarms as much!

Glitterspy · 21/10/2016 08:27

I'm sorry to say ( disappointed too) that I've stopped using this. The bottle has started leaking, despite only being kept on my dresser for the duration of the trial (not in and out of a gym bag for example) and I don't know if the ingredients are "going off" but it definitely doesn't smell like it did when new - now it has an almost oniony smell when it first goes on, not pleasant at all.

It's a cliche of 80s deodorant ads but it just doesn't make me feel confident any more. Rather than becoming more effective with prolonged use it seems to be becoming less effective until the point where I know if I have a day with any level of physical activity greater than home-nursery-car-office-nursery-home, I don't wear it. I wear a Sure deodorant cream stick instead. No leaks, no scent, no BO.

Sorry, I really wanted to love this product but I just can't.

Glitterspy · 21/10/2016 08:30

To qualify. Underarm irritation is less than using normal deodorant though, absolutely. And it is better than the other natural deos I've tried. Sort the packaging and the iffy smell out and I'd probably buy it but wouldn't use it daily, just on days when I didn't have much on.

suchnonsense · 21/10/2016 09:46

I really wanted to like this, and I did in many respects. I liked the scent a lot, and despite it being a bit drippy, I quite liked the spray application - definitely no danger of white marks or staining, just need to leave a little drying time when getting dressed in the morning.

Underarms definitely feel softer and smoother and generally less irritated.

In terms of deodorant, it worked well - I don't think I suffer particularly badly from BO, but haven't noticed any at all since using this.

However, it really isn't effective as an anti-perspirant (and I appreciate that it isn't advertised as such). Unfortunately I definitely need something to keep me dry, and this deodorant doesn't give me quite enough confidence for that.

That said, I may still use it on days when I don't anticipate getting too sweaty, as I really like all other aspects.

OhIfIMust · 21/10/2016 09:46

Just as a final thought - packaging was attractive. The IDEA of this really appeals to me but the reality of having damp armpits all the time was just too off putting for me personally although I don't think I ever actually smelt bad. Thanks for letting me be part of the testing group.

Pinklady1981 · 21/10/2016 10:13

After using Pitrok for several weeks,i still like the product. But one problem i haven't found it in the shops yet Confused. Really don't want to go back to my roll on. I have had no issues with smelling or sweating. I feel clean and fresh all day, even after a workout! Great product!!Smile
