This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

Here's my final feedback:

On the whole I liked the PitROK but the few negatives, and the price, mean I'd be unlikely to buy it unless on offer.

Negatives:
I found the spray really difficult to direct, particularly as my boobs and bump have grown through pregnancy. A number of times the spray has hit my face/side/boob/missed me completely.
The bottle leaked even with the two lids, fine at home but useless if swimming/traveling.
I couldn't use for at least 24hrs after shaving my arm pits. Admittedly this a less regular occurrence than in the high of summer, but still annoying when getting ready for a special occasion, forgetting and applying the PitROK only to be sore for the rest of the day.
Im usually in a rush to get dressed on school run mornings, having run about in my bra waiting for my underarms to dry was annoying (if entertaining for DS!).

Positives:
No allergic reactions! (Apart from irritation post shaving), being able to use something other than a 'stick' deodorant without becoming a wheezing, sneezing mess, had been great.
My underarms, on the whole, feel much nicer than when using other products.
It held up well keeping sweat at bay during stressful/hot conditions.
No marks on my clothes.

Thanks for giving me the chance to try PitROK as it's certainly something I wouldn't have considered previously!

It's a nice looking product and I like the fact that it is for sensitive skin. That does feel reassuring when breastfeeding that no unnecessary chemicals are near my son. I liked the double lid. I did however miss the scent the of a deodorant and that ultimatky would put me off buying it again

Blizy · 18/10/2016 12:48

The packaging is nice and I like the double lid feature.
Unfelt quite wet and sticky after applying and the smell is a bit funky! That being said it did keep me sweat free, although I'm not sure how it would be in hotter temps as I live in Scotland and it's a bit chilly just now.

dramalamma · 18/10/2016 12:50

Really liked that it didn't smell of anything - but it really worked! I had three days exhibiting at shows and i'd usually feel really smelly and horrible afterwards but - no smell at all while using this! I really liked it. The only thing that might put me off is if the price is too high as I do seem to go through it quite quickly. Overall really impressed and the negatives (the wetness when first on and the fiddly two lids) were got used to pretty quickly.

pinkfoxes · 18/10/2016 12:51

I am very pleasantly surprised with this deodorant. I didn't have huge faith it would work for me but it did. It performed well under tough confit ions too! (Workout, etc).

I've grown to like the non aerosol spray and the packaging is nice.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 18/10/2016 12:53

Here's my final feedback:
Overall I've really liked it. I'm not a fan of perfume type smells so that it quickly fades to nothing is a bonus for me.
A bit wet / runny but that didn't bother me too much
Thank yoi

UpsideMum · 18/10/2016 12:55

Final feedback:
I was a bit put off by the smell at first but found it didn't bother me or I didn't notice it as the day went on. I did have underarm irritation and I found it helped this which was great. I wasn't too keen on the spray and found it hard to target properly, plus I used a bit more than normal as a result. It took a while to dry too, though this could in part have been because I needed to use more. Overall I quite liked it but the price is a little high.

BigBroIsWatching · 18/10/2016 13:10

I've now been using for around 4 weeks, and I have to say I'm impressed!
I was doubtful at the beginning as I use a pretty reliable deodorant and once I find something I like, it takes a lot for me to be swayed by another product, no matter what it claims.
I like the fact this is natural. I'm all for putting less chemicals on the body when necessary. This deodorant proved to stand it's ground especially on a sweaty school run, and chasing around after 3 kids.

I'll definitely purchase in the future, and may consider if it was perfumed with a natural fragrance.
The possible rrp is on the steep side. Maybe if there was more for the price, that would be good.

BagelDog · 18/10/2016 13:14

Found this pretty effective. Love that it is unscented, and it really didn't irritate my usually eczema prone skin. Nice to find a natural product that is a spray not a roll on. Tad pricy but would buy when on offer.

Was initially a little sceptical about the product as it is very wet when applied (like spraying water under your arms, which takes a while to dry) and as the spray is quite narrow it does take a few squirts to cover the whole armpit (not that I have massive armpits, but you know what I mean!).

Having tested it for weeks now I can report...

  1. No irritation whatsoever
  2. If you do get a good coverage it does work.
  3. In very hot conditions you do still sweat, but without the usual smell that goes with it. So in terms of odour-busting it does work, but like all products it'll fail the sweat test if you e.g. go for a walk on the beach on a baking hot day (like I did, fully covered up because pale skin + sunlight don't mix).

Yes, I'd buy this product again - as good as many anti-perspirants and without the associated irritation.

lovelilies · 18/10/2016 13:18

After using this for a few weeks I'm quite happy with it. I do prefer the roll on PitRock though, it seems to last longer, I have some BO by the end of the day with the spray one.

I do like the fact that it's a natural product, and my DD(11) uses it too.

All in all I 💗 pitrok

Bec0mum · 18/10/2016 13:37

I was quite skeptical when it arrived and was unsure that the scent free product would actually stop me being stinky. It was put to the test during the hot weather and I did find myself having to wash and then reapply once or twice a day.

I am quite impressed though as I didn't feel self concious after the first few days. I liked the way it felt on my skin (or rather the lack of feeling something there like powder or stickiness/wetness).

I think the packaging was quite simple and the mini lid was quite dangerous so I threw it out in case my little girl tried to eat it. Overall I liked the product and would buy it.

Cineraria · 18/10/2016 13:38

I can't add a lot to my previous post as using the product for a month pretty much confirmed my initial impressions that I've already posted. It has certainly exceeded my expectations and I much prefer the convenience and effectiveness of a standard style of applicator to the Pitrock Crystal I'd used before.

It has definitely had the best effect of any deodorant I've tried during an extended period of growing my underarm hair for a wax. Perhaps this is due to the wetness.

I hope there will be a male version soon as DH would like to use something similar rather than hus crystal too. I think he finds the fragrance and packaging of this one too feminine, which surpass me as he usually is happy to use unisex skin and body care products.

You may wish to update the details you hold for me as although I'm still breastfeeding my first child, I discovered my subsequent early pregnancy (mentioned in the initial survey) had ended shortly after receiving the product but before starting to test it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/10/2016 13:40

Final feedback: like the product and found it effective IF you have the time to keep your arms in the air for 5 mins ish for the liquid to dry. Otherwise it's not effective IME. If they could make the diameter of the spray broader, if you see what I mean, then that would be good as you currently need like 6 sprays for good coverage. Also it's very wet and I strongly dislike it running down my side.
BUT! Overall really impressed :)

SnotGoblin · 18/10/2016 13:46

My initial thoughts held up during the trial. Was pleasantly surprised considering I usually use a roll on. The product seemed to work (with a few 'annoyances' such as waiting for it to dry and the double lid - seriously, ditch the double lid guys).

I would recommend this for anyone who, like me, gave up using deodorant while pregnant and breast feeding.

HP07 · 18/10/2016 13:53

I initially liked the product and it worked really well whilst I was pregnant but since I gave birth, and my hormones have been all over the place, I have had hot flashes and found myself quite sweaty. I had to give up and return to my usual antiperspirant. Perhaps in a few weeks when everything has settled down I will be able to try it again. It was a bit of a shame that it hasn't worked as well as it should.

muddypuddled · 18/10/2016 14:04

After the 4 weeks trial, I can't say I will continue using this product. Although I do not have any underarm irritation, I do feel like it needs an added scent. After a 12 hour shift at work I felt really smelly and resorted to using my usual deodorant on working days.

thisismee · 18/10/2016 14:15

After using this product I found I like the idea of it but it just wasn't for me.
Unfortunately It didn't 100% keep BO at bay and I didn't like the wet feeling once I got hot. I did like how it never reacted to my sensitive skin. Double lid wasn't a problem for me Grin

Vikiib · 18/10/2016 15:00

Here's my final feedback

Pros - looks nice
Nice to have a spray that isn't an aerosol

Cons - so wet to put on
Takes ages to dry
Didn't feel as dry/protected as with conversational stick type
Hard to direct the nozzle
No clear directions on how much to apply

I don't think I would buy this product

jodiecrossley1 · 18/10/2016 15:03

Was quite impressed initially but have found recently that it isn't effective when doing moderate exercise- e.g. going for a walk pushing the pram and am a bit smelly whereas with most other deodrants i tend not to sweat at all

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 18/10/2016 15:38

My final thoughts are pretty in line with my first impressions. I like the product, and it has continued to work well for me. If I can find it, I'd be inclined to purchase it again. It's quite pricey, but it has lasted well. It has really helped with itchy irritated underarms, and it has been nice to get away from smelly aerosols.

Scotmum83 · 18/10/2016 15:44

Lovely product, worked well for everyday use, haven't tested for any heavy excercise but think it would be fine. I'm pregnant so it was reassuring that it was gentle and natural.

Steph25x · 18/10/2016 16:40

Final Feedback:
I liked the fact this is a natural product with no nasties in it. It was gentle on underarm irritation and and I liked the bottle design. The spray was different to what I was used to but I soon got used to it and liked that there was no cloud of deodorant when sprayed. However I didn't like the wetness of this product, it took a while to dry which isn't great when your in a hurry and are unable to get dressed. I felt the spray didn't provide enough coverage and the product would run and drip down my body. I wasn't keen on the fact this was unscented as I like my deodorants to have a scent. This did have a slight, funny smell to it though which did fade after initial application. The double lid I found pointless as the product leaked quite often so I wouldn't trust it in a bag. This product did mostly stop the BO smell but I could always smell a faint BO at the end of the day. Even after a couple of weeks use I still noticed I never made it through the full day feeling and smelling fresh. I would still sweat and not smell but after a busy day there was always a slight waft!! I would not buy this product again as I don't find it reliable enough nor do I like the unscented, wetness of the product. I would be scared to use it in really hot temperatures as I just don't think it provides adequate protection. I have reverted back to my usual sensitive roll on deodorant which is scented. I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend this product or purchase it for the recommended retail price.
Thank you for the chance to test this product though as it's one I wouldn't have tried.

mrsferris1 · 18/10/2016 16:45

My under arm irritation is better after using this for 4 weeks not itchy anymore and the skin is softer. Did the job of a deodorant bit gently!
