This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

I have to say it does a good job at controlling body odour and is very gentle on skin but I personally can't sacrifice the anti-perspiring aspect of a deodorant for less skin irritation. I did find that if I did sweat whereas previously I may have felt like I might stink and needed to shower in the evening I always still smelt like soap at the end of the day. But being a busy mum of 2 I do sweat and life is too short and too stressful to have to add sweat patches to my list of woes or worries so although the product is good it is not for me.

velbels · 18/10/2016 16:45

no irritation like i have had with antiperspirants recently.
I would have preferred a natural mild fragrance. ?lavender
Worked well, even on dry skin as I bathe in the evening as this works better round childcare etc.
Coped with all but the extremely hot days at the start of the trial.
I would prefer a roller ball option, missed my under arm a few times!

Thank you

*but gently

Redchairgirl · 18/10/2016 17:04

The product looked nice, lovely bottle. I liked the fact it was not an aerosol or roll on. I liked that it did not irritate my sensitive skin. However I did not like the smell when it first went on and I think it is over priced - may buy if on special offer.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 18/10/2016 19:02

I have got on well with this overall - it certainly does what it claims to do!

I like that it is 'unfragranced' however, didn't find it 'scent free'. I think it was the aloe vera that gave it a slight 'fusty' smell that I found quite off putting. Whilst this faded, it did make me feel quite self conscious.

I'd also question the spray. I don't use any aerosol products so was hopefuly about a normal spray, but found it hard to direct and was probably spraying more than I needed to as a result. I'd prefer a roll on.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 18/10/2016 19:03

Should have added that (like others) I'd prefer some sort of 'natural' fragrance to it, maybe lavender, citrus or aniseed.

allybird1 · 18/10/2016 19:42

After the 3/4 week trial I can say that I am a believer. I wanted to try the product as I was interested to see how a natural deodorant would stand up against the chemical ones on the market. Although I hoped it would prove to give as much antiperspirant protection and deodorising effect. I did not have high hopes. I was amazed to find out that it did just as it said...and I am extremely pleased. I thought it smelled really fresh and kept me fresh all day. Well done Pitrok... I dont know how you did it, its a miracle. Xx

WineCheeseSleep · 18/10/2016 19:52

I was pleased with the functionality of it - it did a great job of preventing odour and it didn't irritate my armpits. I didn't like the smell though, although it was supposed to be unfragranced it smelt kind of musty to me, definitely not fresh. I find that really important. It also said on the packaging that you should only use it on washed skin but what if you want to use it at other times? I just used it obviously but slightly odd message.

To be honest I think it'll be too expensive for me to buy. The packaging was nice but not that premium. I didn't really see the need for the two caps and just used the top one after a while.

Overall it's a nice product but the smell plus the price means I probably wouldn't buy it myself. Thanks for the opportunity to test it.

portfoliomum · 18/10/2016 20:02

I've now been testing this for a few weeks & am so pleased I got to try it. I've tried quite a few 'natural' deodrants over the years & have found one that I liked (an American brand, won't name it) but quite hard to get hold of without costing the earth through p&p costs so I'm delighted to find one that I hope I can pick up in Boots. For me it really does work, even though my showers are often In the evenings or at other times due to fitting in school & fitness runs around small children! I use it after the shower & then again in the morning. Would like it to have a fragrance though! Will be replacing it even its finished.

cookiewuk · 18/10/2016 21:16

I have enjoyed testing this product and have been pleasantly suprised by the results. It has been very gentle on my skin which is great, except after I had shaved with a fairly blunt razor and then it really stung! As others have said, it isn't exactly scent free but I can't say I mind the smell. I wouldn't want an added fragrance in case it caused irritation. I did feel quite wet at times whilst using this product but then it isn't an antiperspirant so that is to be expected, antiperspirants don't always work for me anyway. There have been a few occasions that I have found myself to be a bit stinky by the end of the day but overall I am happy to keep using this product and will purchase again if I find it at a reasonable price (up to £3).

NamelessEnsign · 19/10/2016 05:55

I liked the product and will continue using it after the rest period is up. I usually prefer a cream type bar, but always choose unscented, so this was a good start.

I'm not generally prone to smelling strong at the end of the day but this coped quite well and was gentle on me and the natural fabric clothes I prefer. I do suffer from eczema and had no irritation with this.

All in all, I would recommend.

kittensmum82 · 19/10/2016 07:17

I really like the product, being pregnant I much prefer to use something not chemically based. I've found it very effective too but have struggled to know how much to apply, I'm often spraying it on in the morning then feeling it run down my sides, but don't feel a single pump is enough. Some guidance on the packaging would be good.

CumbrianExile · 19/10/2016 07:54

I only managed to test the product for a week before the bottle leaked all over the inside of my overnight bag.
I liked it, once I got over the initial off putting smell. I found it very effective. As someone with sensitive skin I didn't get a reaction to using it which is always good.
I do think there needs to be some work on the packaging! Two lids seems excessive, especially as that didn't stop it leaking! The twist also opens too easily which is what led it to leak!
I would use the product again though.

polkydot · 19/10/2016 09:27

I have been using this for about a month now, and will continue to use it after giving this feedback. I do think the price is quite high, but the bottle does seem to last a long time so I will probably buy some more after this bottle is finished. One of the main reasons for this is that I don't like the idea of going back to a thick, clogging deodorant now and this has made my underarm skin feel much better. I also like that it doesn't leave any residue on clothing.

I have not found the packaging to be a problem, I think that it is attractive and I have been away for the weekend on a couple of occasions and not found that it has leaked at all.

On a couple of occasions when there has been a hot day and I have been at work all day I have started to feel conscious that I may have some body odour, but when I have got home and asked my husband he has said no, that I haven't! I am confident enough to continue using this every day, but probably not as confident about it 100% preventing body odour as I was with Mitchum, which I used previously, but them I am happy about PitROK not blocking my pores in the way that Mitchum did.

I like that this product is unscented, I prefer it that way, but I think that I would prefer it to be a roll on. I think that would make application and coverage easier.

I am currently pregnant and breastfeeding and I certainly feel more confident about using such a natural product at this time. When my current son was a newborn his proximity when feeding to my deodorant did give me pause.

Overall I'm really impressed with this product.

NewNameNoFace · 19/10/2016 12:10

It's a great deodorant, really worked on controlling smells. I will continue to use the bottle I have been sent but unfortunately I don't think I will purchase one.

I got use to the spray but would prefer a roll on. It's not a very nice feeling when it runs down my torso.

£4 is more than I would pay for a deodorant normally but it seems be lasting well so seems quite good value.

WigelsPigels · 19/10/2016 12:16

Still really liking how my underarms feel. Very soft, though still not fond of the smell.

vickyors · 19/10/2016 12:18

I was impressed by how useful it was, even though I do sport and lots of activities. I also used it in work, and I was, again, surprised that it worked, as usually I've worn a seriously strong (and no doubt heinous for my body) deodorant..

I was pleased with the way it didn't make my underarm sore, either. It was really good, and I didn't get any redness or anything.
The only thing I did not particularly like, and would be annoying each morning, is the liquid nature of it, as it drips down one's side as you spray it on.

Titsalinabumsquash · 19/10/2016 12:31

My final review and feedback.
Smile

I love the fact that it was gentle on my sensitive skin, especially after shaving.
I like the texture and the feel of it but I still can't get to grips with the vague 'unscented' scent.
It works well for me on a daily basis but doesn't hold up trough a work out or a hot day.

Brushyourteeth · 19/10/2016 14:05

I am very glad that I was able to test this deodorant. I was rather skeptical at first, I must admit, but I have found that it really works and it keeps me fresh.
My underarms are smooth with no irritation.
I like the fact that it is natural. The scent is not my favourite, but not unpleasant or overpowering and it does wear off especially when your skin gets used to it.
At first I thought that it took longer to dry than my normal deodorant; it does and can be rather wet, but I have got used to this. I am off to purchase my second bottle!

lokahsamastah · 19/10/2016 14:13

I'm definitely using this product in the future. Found it to be an effective deoderant, and I like that it is unfragranced - I'm sensitive to smells and can get migraines from even mild natural products including essential oils. I also like that my newborn will be able to smell my natural smell rather than chemicals.
I haven't experienced any skin sensitivity, even after shaving. My only negative point is that when I went in to have my baby the spray bottle leaked in my toiletries bag, despite having two lids. I would be keen to try this as a roll on product.

wonkylegs · 19/10/2016 14:30

I liked this in terms of its gentle on the skin, nice smell nature but couldn't rely on it on tough days as I just ended up with damp patches under my arms (I smelt ok but soooo wet, worse than going without deodorant) so I'm not sure I'd go with it again unless I was getting particularly irritated skin
Lovely packaging

NEMSparkle · 19/10/2016 15:13

What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

Considering it's a natural product I thought if was fairly effective. On a hot day it didn't work as well as an antiperspirant but for the normal British weather it's fine.

Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

It certainly did it cause any irritation at all and I had no adverse effects at all.

Overall this was ok in terms of protection agains odour and wetness, the smell I didn't mind at all (think it's the aloe that I can smell) however what I couldn't get away with was the wetness of the product. This made it impossible to use in a hurry and a bit of a faff if I'm honest, perhaps it would work better as a roll on! I've went back to using my previous deodorant for this reason.

Thanks for the opportunity to try it out though!

goldfinch01 · 19/10/2016 17:10

Wasn't keen on smell, it smelt a bit musky. I would have preferred it to be either unscented or a fresher citrus or lavender smell for example.

Re. packaging, one cap would have been fine- I threw away the smaller inner cap as it was too fiddly and unnecessary.

My usual deodorant is a cream stick, so I found this one difficult to apply, being a liquid squirty bottle. I found it difficult to direct the spray and to know how much to use. I found that drops of liquid ran down my sides which I had to wipe off. I also didn't like the fact that I had to walk around with my arms in the air waiting for it to dry. A real faff and not good when in a hurry!

I was pleasantly surprised to find that for usual daily usage, it was effective, and I still felt fresh at the end of the day. However, for long or strenuous days, it wasn't quite enough and my pits felt sweaty/damp/not fresh towards the end of the day.

I might consider giving it another go with changes to the application method and scent, but for now I've gone back to my usual deodorant.

After trialling this deodorant for a while, I do really like it and it works for me. I still sweat but no smell which is good so it does work. I do have quite sensitive skin but this hasn't caused any irrirltation! Even after shaving!
The only thing I'm not keen on is the smell. It has actually put me off using it as I really don't like it. I would much prefer this if it had a slight fragrance to it, just something to take the strange smell away.
Overall I'd recommend this as a natural deodorant without aluminium:-)
