This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Lidl Toujours Nappies with their DCs.

The following items were tested:

Size 1 Newborn Nappies 24 pack
Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies 44 pack
Size 3 Midi (4-9kg) 56 pack x 1
Size 4 Maxi (7-18kg) 50 pack
Size 5 Junior (11-25kg) 44 pack
Size 6 Extra Large Nappies 30 pack

Here’s what Lidl have to say about the product:
‘Lidl knows the most important things when choosing a nappy are dryness, protection and comfort. We ensure ultimate dryness and leakage protection, and the Toujours range is now more flexible giving your baby the comfort and freedom to explore the world. There is no need to pay a premium price for a premium nappy, our prices are low but our quality high. Toujours is dermatologically tested, latex free, skin-friendly and independently tested. Protecting the environment is also important, therefore the padding used is from sustainably managed forests. The slim design means less materials, less packaging and less energy, minimising our carbon footprint.’

Yes, they were great during the day and fitted well.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
20 weeks old and we tested size 4

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
They are thinner than the Aldi nappies I've tried before and seemed a little plasticky. The design was pleasant and the tabs stretched okay. They kept my baby dry with no leaks. They smelt ok- not too chemically. The packaging is compact too. These were nicer than the lidl newborn nappies I tried when dd was born.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Yes. I do shop at Lidl quite often and the nappies are good value. I tend to buy supermarket brand nappies so would pick these up.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?

I would definitely buy them if I were in Lidl, they are a fab price and work well.

I was picked by MNHQ to review this product/ service, which I received for free. This review is in my
own words and reflects my true opinion.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

7 weeks old, size 2.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
They are quite a lot bigger than the nappies we have previously been using (Pampers size 1) but I don't know if this is due to going up a size (although both sizes are "right" for my DD's size if that makes sense). The nappies don't have the same cut-away shape on the legs so they do feel much bulkier and would take up more space in summer outfits/things that only just still fit her etc. I think this just means that we have the wrong size rather than being a problem with the nappies (although they do have slightly different shaping to the Pampers). I do really miss having an external wetness indicator line though!
Having said that I was impressed that they work so well; no leaks (so far!) which let's be honest is the most important thing overall.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes I probably would, on the basis that they are good value and they work!

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Quite possibly - the price is excellent and makes it well worth considering. We have a Lidl store near us that I never went to before I started maternity leave, but now with a smaller income it's good to find ways to spend less which don't feel difficult to implement - things like saving money on nappies whilst not compromising on quality is a great example of how to do this.
Thank you for the chance to give them a try as I probably wouldn't have done if it's wasn't for this giveaway!

Used the largest size 6 on ds who is 2.5 and enormous for his age.

I found them both very absorbent and a bit wet! They would hold lots of moisture but the surface was wetter than with other nappies I've used so his bum was a bit wet in the morning.

But they are very generously sized (important for my very big 2.5 year old) and much more absorbent than any other supermarket nappy I have used (usually waitrose or sainsburys). I had resigned myself to having to pay more for Pampers overnight because he drinks a lot too, but these do the job just as well. And the price is great. I'll definitely be seeking them out in future.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

3 months - size 2 nappies

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They felt soft and the fastenings were easy to pull out (some nappies we have tried, have been difficult to separate from the back of the nappy with one hand)

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes. Both my husband and I would recommend the nappies to friends.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Yes. The lidl is close to our house and so if I was passing I would call in and stock up on the nappies. They are great value for money.

The only thing I would say that I like about other nappies is the blue wet line indicator that other brands have.

Thanks for the opportunity for sampling these nappies,
Jen

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

12 weeks old. Size 2 mini.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

my first impression was that the nappy does look cheaper than the other, more expensive brands on the market. The design was very simple and the nappy doesn't feel as high quality. That said, they do the job - my daughter had no leaks when wearing them and appeared to be comfortable with no signs of sores or red marks. The only issue was when using overnight, the nappy didn't hold urine as well as some of the nappies designed for overnight use, so we did have to change her in the night.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

I do still prefer the Aldi nappies and probably would recommend these over LIDL. However, if someone did their shopping at LIDL I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?

I do occasionally shop at Lidl for groceries, if we needed nappies I would definitely purchase as they did the job for good value for money.

  1. Baby is 6 weeks and over 10lb. I trialled size 1.

  2. I like them. From memory, they seem v similar to the Aldi ones in terms of look and shape. Don't have a wetness strip which I find useful for the first week with a breastfed newborn, but didn't bother me with my six week old. Although on the upper end for size 1, we had no leaks and overall I was happy with them.

  3. Yes I'd recommend them.

  4. I would buy them if I happened to be near a Lidl, but we don't have one locally.

She is 2y7m and we tested the size 4s.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked the lack of an overpowering chemically smell! I found them a little stiff initially, but that didn't seem to worry my daughter.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

I would! They worked really well, and we didn't have any leaks, even overnight.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?

I'm not sure they would replace my normal nappies, but I would definitely buy them again if we were in Lidl and needed nappies!

Baby is 6 months old and used size 3.

The nappies weren't bulky and they kept my baby fairly dry. The sizing was quite generous too so they seemed comfortable.

I would recommend these to my friends with children who are on a budget.

I probably would buy these nappies again, however I wouldn't go to lidl specifically for them.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

18months and wide of waist so size 5

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I really liked them, they feel really soft and don't smell a lot, also I liked that the designs, 4 different ones in total and all very cute.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, they're very nice, a little nicer than my current brand I think.

Just to add - having the nappy size on the back of the nappy is irritating other brands I've used have the size on the front so when I unfold the nappy it's always the wrong way due to habit. But this is a petty complaint and I do really like them.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

3 month old twin boys, size 2.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked how thin and light they were, and that they felt papery rather than plasticky. By the time the sample pack arrived, both boys had had a crazy growth spurt and the size 2s almost didn't fit, but I used them in the day and was very pleased with their performance.

I bought a pack of size 3s to test at night - they didn't leak with either twin after a whole night. There was some dampness next to their skin, but this obviously hadn't bothered them as they both slept through from 1930-0600hrs.

The only slight quibble is that the nappies don't smell that great when they're wet - the wee seems to react with the chemical core - but it's not bad enough to stop me buying them.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes definitely.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes. They are good value and performed well.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
7 weeks. Size one.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They felt quite stiff on opening but were actually soft inside.
They came up smaller size wise than big name brand ones I usually use. I was worried the smaller fit would lead to leaks. They didn't leak.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes, if they were after a value option. I'm not as convinced by these for night times but truly they've not leaked or caused us any issues at all, so yes I would.
4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Yes they're great for day time and good value. I'm not sure how price compares leading brand size one vs size two of this brand. If cheaper I'd buy. The only thing to stop me doing so is that the store isn't near my house in our city so I'd have to take a special trip.

)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My son is almost three, he will be three on the 19th September and we used the size five nappy.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I think that the Lidl Toujours nappies are really good. They feel slightly thinner than the brands that I use and they don't smell as chemically as some. My son loved the print on them too. I love the back of them! So cute!

They do seem a little bigger than the others but you can still get a good fit. The velcro seems a lot stronger on them - which is a good thing as my son sometimes tries to pull at his nappy when he does a poo. We have tried to potty train him but he isn't interested. I can see the Lidl nappies being a firm favourite and may have to stock up when I am there!

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
I would definitely recommend the nappies to everyone. They feel better quality than some and they are softer than others. I hate the chemical smell on some brands, Lidl have managed to keep this smell to a minimum.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?
I would definitely buy Lidl Toujours nappies again due to the fact that they seem really good quality. Good value for money too.

  4. I don't often go to lidl but if I did, I would buy these nappies.

They are nicer than the last time I used Lidl nappies, softer, and are really slim. I think we might be about to head up a size in our regular nappies, but these are generously sized, and fitted well and are really absorbent, even managing to contain poop explosions after 11hrs sleep.

1)How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Baby was 6 weeks old when we trialed the nappies, we used size 1, newborn.

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was pleased with the quality of the nappies, baby seemed to be comfortable in them (although wish I'd maybe asked to trial the next size up as he was getting a little big for them). They didn't leak at all and held up well although I did sometimes have trouble getting them to stick when putting them on (could just be me and Mr Wriggles causing that though).

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes I think so, they are definitely as good as any other nappies we've tried (and I think I've exhausted all the free trials now!)

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, they are probably not my first choice as I think Aldi nappies are maybe slightly cheaper (could be wrong) and we do our main shop in Aldi so they tend to just get put in on our way round in there. They are certainly as good in quality as Aldi nappies and while they may not have the same quality feel as the likes of Pampers does that really matter if the baby is comfortable and the nappy is doing it's job as these nappies definitely do (at a far more reasonable price)?

2)What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Toujours Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Not as soft as Aldi nappies, but they stayed dry day and night - no leaks. I don't like that there isn't a line to show when the nappy is full. Very good price though. I found they were smaller than Aldi & Pampers size 1.

3)Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? If they regularly shopped in Lidl then yes, but I would suggest they go out of their way to buy them.

4)Would you buy Lidl Toujours Nappies again in the future? If so why? Only if I was shopping in Lidl anyway as they are super cheap.
