We have been asked by the team at Sony to find 10 UK MNers to put their latest hero smartphone, the Xperia X through its paces! We’re looking for MNers who have an interest in photography, getting out and about with nature, animals or sports and who would be willing to share their photos on the feedback thread.

Below are some details about the new handset

Key features:
• Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, Xperia X’s object tracking technology, helps your subject stay in focus, even when moving, to minimise blurry photos
• Super-fast camera which goes from standby to capture in less than 0.6 seconds
• Low-light sensors for round-the-clock sharpness
• 2.5D curved glass edges
• Refined user interface to make it more intuitive than ever
• A range of four colours – Graphite black, White, Lime Gold or Rose Gold
• Smart Battery Management that brings you up to two days battery life

Specifications:
• 23 MP camera with Predictive Hybrid Autofocus
• 13 MP front camera for low-light selfies
• 5” Full HD display with curved glass
• Up to 2 days battery life
• Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 650, 64-bit Hexa-core processor

RRP: £459.99 SIM free from the Sony Xperia store Also via:

Vodafone - £30 upfront - £32 per month - 6GB Data
Carphone Warehouse - Free handset - £31 per month - 1GB data
EE - £9.99 upfront - £35.99 per month - 1GB data
Three - £99 upfront - £13 per month (T&Cs) - 500MB data
O2 - Free handset - £36 per month - 2GB data

If you're selected, you'd be sent Xperia X to try. As long as you share feedback as required you will be able to keep the handset. You will need to pay for and take responsibility for any calls, texts or data used. Note – the Xperia X takes a Nano SIM card which is the smallest size – we can help with SIM issues/ queries.

As part of the briefing for this, all MNers will need take part in a 30-minute briefing session via Google Hangout with a Sony representative. During the hangout a Sony representative will show you how to set up your device and give you a short demo highlighting the key camera features which we’d like you to review, specifically Smart Capture technology and Predictive Hybrid Autofocus. You will need to have a google+ account to do this.

We will be asking MNers to share their feedback on the handsets at least three times. The first feedback area will focus on first impressions, the second on sharing some photos from the camera – ideally what Sony are calling an “X Moment” – “is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” and finally your overall review of the handset having used it for a couple of weeks.

Ideally MN testers will also tweet their photos from the handset – but this isn’t a requirement to take part (using the #WhatsYourX hashtag).

If you’d like to take part, please add your details here and we will be in touch with those selected soon.

Thanks and good luck!

I'm on tomorrow's call (assuming it works) who else is?

BrandNewAndImproved · 07/07/2016 22:07

I might be Carl. My area manager schedules a 10am conference call every Friday but never rings in for it. If she hasnt logged into the session by five past I'll ring in to this one.

OohMrDarcy · 08/07/2016 09:19

I'm scheduled for the 10 am today - but now have a conference call I need to attend too if possible - Ann, do you know how long this is likely to take? I've got the phone set up and working no problems already - and had some fun taking some practice photos with the DC so not sure I need to attend if its not compulsory

thanks

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 09:32

Just picked mine up, I got a graphite black one, fancy!

Ann, the original envelope inside had my correct address on it. The outside courier envelope was missing a digit. So it wasn't your fault, my fault, or even the distributors fault, it was whoever printed the courier label and didn't check!

OoohNewShoes · 08/07/2016 09:50

It said it was 30 mins on the email Ooh

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 08/07/2016 10:20

There were quite a few of us there

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 12:40

What kind of thing did it cover Carl?

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 08/07/2016 15:02

The most useful stuff was about some of the camera functions and settings menus I might have struggled to find otherwise.

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 16:06

Ah cool hopefully it will be rescheduled for some of us then.

Bit gutted I can't get a case from car phone warehouse et all as its "too new". I'll have to order from Amazon/eBay then, which I was trying to avoid. DP went looking today for me.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 08/07/2016 17:17

Yes. I want a case and screen protector too!

BrandNewAndImproved · 08/07/2016 18:00

I've ordered a case, screen protector and running case off of Amazon today. I'm so clumsy I can't risk taking it out without it.

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 19:47

I've ordered a case and screen protector from Amazon. Should have added an sd card as well, the memory isn't huge. Am busy downloading my usual apps - is there no mumsnet app for android?!?! Shock

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 19:47

It's offered me net mums instead!!!!

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 20:31

OK so phone is 32gb not the tiny phone I was expecting - so far I am very impressed, and I was sold on the iPhone.....

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 21:35

Phone is a bigger 32gb which is a lovely surprise!

Fibonaccied · 08/07/2016 21:35

And it's rubbish at mumsnet on the Web evidently!! Ha

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 09/07/2016 09:03

Took some photos of the kids at the play area yesterday and it's great. Has anyone heard when we need to do the first review yet?

BrandNewAndImproved · 09/07/2016 09:25

Monday Carl.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 09/07/2016 10:15

Great. Thanks. I'll just keep playing.

BrandNewAndImproved · 09/07/2016 10:35

Carl what was the camera settings info? It doesn't look like we'll get the rescheduled call as apart from an email from Ann saying she would contact Sony and see what happened I haven't heard anything.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 09/07/2016 13:12

Has anyone figured out a quick way to get back to the top of a page when browsing the Internet?

On my previous phone you just tapped the top of the screen and it would take you to the top of the page again.

I have now figured out 2 ways to refresh the page, which was something I was also struggling with in the beginning.

marsybum · 09/07/2016 13:27

I had a call saying theyll replace my duff one so that's good, hopefully I should have it by Tuesday and can join in on all the excitement!

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 09/07/2016 14:46

There's setting so that you can take a picture from your lock screen in under a second. I'm just building some new furniture but if you can wait I'll find the menu and tell you how to set it up.

OoohNewShoes · 09/07/2016 17:59

The camera button at the bottom of the left side goes into camera mode instantly for me from the lock screen. Mostly anyway, there's been a couple of times I've had to press it twice. Sliding your finger over from the camera icon on the bottom left also works.

Did you all go into the Sony Expedia setup and complete all the steps? It gives you the old ghostbusters film for free then 12 free films from a selection. Pretty cool.

Fibonaccied · 09/07/2016 18:20

Have some amazing pictures today, from a day at Chessington. The camera pick 's up on colours beautifully. How do we do first review?
