We have been asked by the team at Sony to find 10 UK MNers to put their latest hero smartphone, the Xperia X through its paces! We’re looking for MNers who have an interest in photography, getting out and about with nature, animals or sports and who would be willing to share their photos on the feedback thread.

Below are some details about the new handset

Key features:
• Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, Xperia X’s object tracking technology, helps your subject stay in focus, even when moving, to minimise blurry photos
• Super-fast camera which goes from standby to capture in less than 0.6 seconds
• Low-light sensors for round-the-clock sharpness
• 2.5D curved glass edges
• Refined user interface to make it more intuitive than ever
• A range of four colours – Graphite black, White, Lime Gold or Rose Gold
• Smart Battery Management that brings you up to two days battery life

Specifications:
• 23 MP camera with Predictive Hybrid Autofocus
• 13 MP front camera for low-light selfies
• 5” Full HD display with curved glass
• Up to 2 days battery life
• Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 650, 64-bit Hexa-core processor

RRP: £459.99 SIM free from the Sony Xperia store Also via:

Vodafone - £30 upfront - £32 per month - 6GB Data
Carphone Warehouse - Free handset - £31 per month - 1GB data
EE - £9.99 upfront - £35.99 per month - 1GB data
Three - £99 upfront - £13 per month (T&Cs) - 500MB data
O2 - Free handset - £36 per month - 2GB data

If you're selected, you'd be sent Xperia X to try. As long as you share feedback as required you will be able to keep the handset. You will need to pay for and take responsibility for any calls, texts or data used. Note – the Xperia X takes a Nano SIM card which is the smallest size – we can help with SIM issues/ queries.

As part of the briefing for this, all MNers will need take part in a 30-minute briefing session via Google Hangout with a Sony representative. During the hangout a Sony representative will show you how to set up your device and give you a short demo highlighting the key camera features which we’d like you to review, specifically Smart Capture technology and Predictive Hybrid Autofocus. You will need to have a google+ account to do this.

We will be asking MNers to share their feedback on the handsets at least three times. The first feedback area will focus on first impressions, the second on sharing some photos from the camera – ideally what Sony are calling an “X Moment” – “is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” and finally your overall review of the handset having used it for a couple of weeks.

Ideally MN testers will also tweet their photos from the handset – but this isn’t a requirement to take part (using the #WhatsYourX hashtag).

If you’d like to take part, please add your details here and we will be in touch with those selected soon.

Thanks and good luck!

Congratulations to all who have been chosen. Happy testing! No mail here yet, So with the assumption that I am not chosen, I will stop refreshing this page and my mail until it is time to read feedbacks! :)

MummyBtothree · 05/07/2016 16:43

Well done to those who were selected Smile

OoohNewShoes · 05/07/2016 18:03

Oh my goodness, I got picked! I am over the moon! Grin thank you MNHQ!

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 05/07/2016 18:14

Yay, I was picked too. I can't wait to try it :-)

BrandNewAndImproved · 05/07/2016 18:50

Yey I'm picked!!

marsybum · 05/07/2016 19:48

I've been picked too! I'm so excited!!

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/07/2016 13:24

I've also been picked for the trial - very excited. Just got home to find I missed the delivery. Rearranged delivery for tomorrow. Has anyone got theirs yet? What colour did you get?

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/07/2016 13:27

No I haven't I hope it comes tonight. I really want the rose gold colour!

Has anyone read any online reviews about it already? The camera looks amazing I can't wait to try it out.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/07/2016 13:36

The reviews are mixed online but mainly because people expected more for the money. By the sounds of it I'm expecting a great camera and the rest of the phone to run fast and be good. The tech folk seem determined not to like it but don't say anything bad about it other than they want more from it.

Anyway, I'm expecting it to be good and have fished out my spare payg sim to go in it so I can play as soon as it gets here.

No delivery here yet but I'm now in all day so fingers crossed.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/07/2016 13:43

I'm in for the rest of the day apart from the school run as well. There hasn't been a delivery letter but now I'm imagining a stupid yodel driver keeping it for himself.

I'm slightly sad it won't be water proof like the last few Sonys that have came out. I have atm the first water proof Sony and I love not having to worry about it when I'm in the bath MNing or running in the rain. I think that was a really good selling point that made the Sony phones different.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/07/2016 14:33

I'm very interested in trying this phone. I've had iPhones for the past 6 years and have been contemplating getting an android for a while now. I suspect I will find the initial switch over tricky to navigate for the first few days. Looking forward to having a decent camera for a change.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/07/2016 14:53

Are we allowed to turn it on and set it up when it comes or do we have to wait for the initial Google hangout chat that tells us how to set it up?

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/07/2016 14:54

Oo. Mines arrived!

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/07/2016 15:42

I'm just thinking. I've changed my username since I signed up for the trial. Will MNHQ know this already or should I message someone to tell them? I don't want to get banned from future trials for not submitting feedback.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/07/2016 15:44

Carl have you opened it and set it up?

Thanks I would email them, on the bottom of the email that went out saying we were picked there's the MN product testing email address.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/07/2016 15:47

I've opened it and charges it and done basic setup. I don't want to do too much until they confirm I can keep it Smile

I'm going to start trying the camera asap

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/07/2016 15:50

What colour did you get? I can't wait for mine Grin

OoohNewShoes · 06/07/2016 16:01

Ooh, no missed card for me yet, hope they come today! I didn't think it would arrive so quickly!

Thanksforallthefish I asked Ann Munsnet if I could name change for the feedback and she said I could. I'm sure they can see your nn history.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/07/2016 16:12

TeaPleaseLouise I've just sent her an email to let her know anyway. Better to be safe.

CarlGrimesMissingEye the first post says we can keep the phone provided we leave all the required feedback.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/07/2016 16:16

II know Thanks but I always like to be sure. I'll get some apps and get Facebook etc on there so I can use it as I would normally. I just won't put all my work stuff on yet.

I got a dark grey one which looks very swish. I'm liking it so far. I'm usually an apple girl so it's a departure!

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/07/2016 16:46

I am posting from the xperia. Considering I'm a non Apple novice I'm really please with how easy it is to use!

dietstartsmonday · 06/07/2016 18:17

Mine has arrived. So far just turned it on and put on charge but will be having a good look at it tomorrow.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 06/07/2016 18:23

Carl How are you finding the navigating on webpages etc?

I tried to use DH's android tablet before and struggled with having to press the little arrow button down the bottom right rather than just swiping or hitting the middle button. I'm just so used to apple products now that I'm all over the place on other systems. I can't tell you the amount of times I've clicked the wrong side of the page to close a screen in work (Apple on top left and PC on top right).

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/07/2016 18:32

I've found the screen challenging but I think it's because of what I'm used to rather than it actually being a problem IYKWIM. I'm sure as it becomes familiar I'll be ok. I'm really looking forward to the chat with the Sony person to find out more about what the camera can do.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/07/2016 18:34

Are the chats this week? I chose the Thursday time but it didn't say if it was this Thursday or next.
