We have been asked by the team at Sony to find 10 UK MNers to put their latest hero smartphone, the Xperia X through its paces! We’re looking for MNers who have an interest in photography, getting out and about with nature, animals or sports and who would be willing to share their photos on the feedback thread.

Below are some details about the new handset

Key features:
• Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, Xperia X’s object tracking technology, helps your subject stay in focus, even when moving, to minimise blurry photos
• Super-fast camera which goes from standby to capture in less than 0.6 seconds
• Low-light sensors for round-the-clock sharpness
• 2.5D curved glass edges
• Refined user interface to make it more intuitive than ever
• A range of four colours – Graphite black, White, Lime Gold or Rose Gold
• Smart Battery Management that brings you up to two days battery life

Specifications:
• 23 MP camera with Predictive Hybrid Autofocus
• 13 MP front camera for low-light selfies
• 5” Full HD display with curved glass
• Up to 2 days battery life
• Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 650, 64-bit Hexa-core processor

RRP: £459.99 SIM free from the Sony Xperia store Also via:

Vodafone - £30 upfront - £32 per month - 6GB Data
Carphone Warehouse - Free handset - £31 per month - 1GB data
EE - £9.99 upfront - £35.99 per month - 1GB data
Three - £99 upfront - £13 per month (T&Cs) - 500MB data
O2 - Free handset - £36 per month - 2GB data

If you're selected, you'd be sent Xperia X to try. As long as you share feedback as required you will be able to keep the handset. You will need to pay for and take responsibility for any calls, texts or data used. Note – the Xperia X takes a Nano SIM card which is the smallest size – we can help with SIM issues/ queries.

As part of the briefing for this, all MNers will need take part in a 30-minute briefing session via Google Hangout with a Sony representative. During the hangout a Sony representative will show you how to set up your device and give you a short demo highlighting the key camera features which we’d like you to review, specifically Smart Capture technology and Predictive Hybrid Autofocus. You will need to have a google+ account to do this.

We will be asking MNers to share their feedback on the handsets at least three times. The first feedback area will focus on first impressions, the second on sharing some photos from the camera – ideally what Sony are calling an “X Moment” – “is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” and finally your overall review of the handset having used it for a couple of weeks.

Ideally MN testers will also tweet their photos from the handset – but this isn’t a requirement to take part (using the #WhatsYourX hashtag).

If you’d like to take part, please add your details here and we will be in touch with those selected soon.

Thanks and good luck!

I'd love to give it a whirl. I've never had a top end phone before, so that's one thing I'd love to try. Also me and dh are into nature photography in quite a big way, birds mainly but come the summer love taking pics of butterflies, wildflowers and bugs. Sometimes the big bridge camera is just not quick enough, so this would be fab.

BankWadger · 29/06/2016 07:54

Have applied. It's great timing as my contract was up 2 weeks ago and I need to reassess.

IneedAdinosaurNickname · 29/06/2016 08:52

Omg yes please!!!

Joydgreen88 · 29/06/2016 10:41

Applied! This would be terrifically useful for taking pictures of food as my partner is a chef, and he's getting sick of lugging around a giant camera all the time!

Sierra259 · 29/06/2016 12:29

Done!

OhNoNotMyBaby · 29/06/2016 12:30

Classic opportunity this morning, when a roe deer ran out of the woods in front of me.

Suggestion:
#SnapAndSend hashtag is in use already but #SonySnapAndSend isnt't.....

Thingywhatsit · 29/06/2016 16:31

Ooooh I've signed up - never have before! Hope I am one of the lucky 10!

puglife · 29/06/2016 16:43

Would love to try this. I'm yet to capture a photo of my pug and baby - so many funny moments that my iPhone just can't capture!

SmileyShazza · 29/06/2016 16:48

I would love to try out this phone. I have a number of big events coming up that I want to be able to get some fab photos of but need something easy to carry around which is small but packed with features to really get the best pictures I can.

Photography is a big hobby of mine and I take pictures of everything from our 2 and 5 year old children to my cat, dogs, animals, days out, landscapes, abstract and arty shots and flowers and nature. I can guarantee this handset would get properly put through it's paces and I would be more than happy to share the images I take during the trial.

WheresLarry · 29/06/2016 21:11

Signed up. Would be great to be selected. MN please note I indicated evenings and other for availability for Google Web chat but I can be available any time, so don't discount me in that point x

Thanks, OhNoNotMyBaby, I am just blown by the Chennai photo and the photograph of changing climate! Oh, dear humans....we have our generations to live in this beautiful world and are we giving them the best?

sandylion · 30/06/2016 10:29

Signed up this would be fab!

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 30/06/2016 11:38

When is this due to close?

overanxiousmum · 30/06/2016 18:58

Signed up! I was always disappointed in the quality of photos from my phone until I got a Sony z3 compact. it is fantastic, indoors, outdoors, macro, panoramic shots - with indoor shots in artificial light they are proper photos not 'obviously from a camera phone'. My daughter has autism and one of her special interests is nature/wildlife. She's always asking me to grab shots of bugs and butterflies, it is crucial I get a shot good enough for identification quickly enough for the bug not to have flown or crawled away and so cause a meltdown! I no longer have a separate camera and I can capture far more than I used to because my phone is usually with me. I'd be really interested to see how Sony have improved on their existing high standards. The phone I have has stood up to pretty high use too!
