We have been asked by the team at Sony to find 10 UK MNers to put their latest hero smartphone, the Xperia X through its paces! We’re looking for MNers who have an interest in photography, getting out and about with nature, animals or sports and who would be willing to share their photos on the feedback thread.

Below are some details about the new handset

Key features:
• Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, Xperia X’s object tracking technology, helps your subject stay in focus, even when moving, to minimise blurry photos
• Super-fast camera which goes from standby to capture in less than 0.6 seconds
• Low-light sensors for round-the-clock sharpness
• 2.5D curved glass edges
• Refined user interface to make it more intuitive than ever
• A range of four colours – Graphite black, White, Lime Gold or Rose Gold
• Smart Battery Management that brings you up to two days battery life

Specifications:
• 23 MP camera with Predictive Hybrid Autofocus
• 13 MP front camera for low-light selfies
• 5” Full HD display with curved glass
• Up to 2 days battery life
• Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 650, 64-bit Hexa-core processor

RRP: £459.99 SIM free from the Sony Xperia store Also via:

Vodafone - £30 upfront - £32 per month - 6GB Data
Carphone Warehouse - Free handset - £31 per month - 1GB data
EE - £9.99 upfront - £35.99 per month - 1GB data
Three - £99 upfront - £13 per month (T&Cs) - 500MB data
O2 - Free handset - £36 per month - 2GB data

If you're selected, you'd be sent Xperia X to try. As long as you share feedback as required you will be able to keep the handset. You will need to pay for and take responsibility for any calls, texts or data used. Note – the Xperia X takes a Nano SIM card which is the smallest size – we can help with SIM issues/ queries.

As part of the briefing for this, all MNers will need take part in a 30-minute briefing session via Google Hangout with a Sony representative. During the hangout a Sony representative will show you how to set up your device and give you a short demo highlighting the key camera features which we’d like you to review, specifically Smart Capture technology and Predictive Hybrid Autofocus. You will need to have a google+ account to do this.

We will be asking MNers to share their feedback on the handsets at least three times. The first feedback area will focus on first impressions, the second on sharing some photos from the camera – ideally what Sony are calling an “X Moment” – “is a split second in time that means something to you that’s here and then gone. It could be a baby’s first steps, achieving a personal goal, a sporting achievement, your dog’s whimsical expression, or just a random flash of happiness and hilarity. It’s a moment that you’d love to capture perfectly that’s all too missable if you, or your phone isn’t up to the job” and finally your overall review of the handset having used it for a couple of weeks.

Ideally MN testers will also tweet their photos from the handset – but this isn’t a requirement to take part (using the #WhatsYourX hashtag).

If you’d like to take part, please add your details here and we will be in touch with those selected soon.

Thanks and good luck!

I've tried loads of times and I tried the other link. Glad it's not just me. I screen shotted myself a few times so I can prove I tried at the right time!

marsybum · 07/07/2016 18:11

I did the same brand! I tried the other link too just in case and got the same - hope this doesn't mean they'll want the phone back I've only just rescued it from the woodlice in the garden where the courier dumped it!!

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:13

if we have all tried, and all posted on here, they must be having an issue. MN know my real name/email address linked to this username, so they'll know I've tried. I emailed them about the address error too.

OoohNewShoes · 07/07/2016 18:13

Just trying that now Fib, same error. Emailed Ann on the chance she's checking her mail.

Surely if it was next Thursday the email wouldn't have said hopefully your phone will have arrived since they all seem to have arrived.

BrandNewAndImproved · 07/07/2016 18:15

I thought the same marysbum about them wanting the phone back now. I can't do tomorrow at ten either as I have a conference call booked at work for the same time.

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:15

how long do we keep trying?

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:16

I cant see them wanting the phones back, they want the product test, theres obviously just an issue with this. Maybe they'll rearrange, as theres a few of us unable to do tomorrow at 10? most of us can set a phone up - they just want to show us the specific camera stuff they want us to do I'm guessing?

OoohNewShoes · 07/07/2016 18:17

I'm sure they'll rearrange. I'm going to try till half past, then I'll have to get DS off to bed. I've got a wedding tomorrow so can't do it then either.

Oh and I wrecked my sim trying to cut it down! Going to have to use an old backup until my new ones arrive and I can sim swap..

BrandNewAndImproved · 07/07/2016 18:18

I've stopped now fibo. They said six not twenty past six which it almost is.

Quite annoyed tbh as I've rushed around picking it up and getting it charged whilst sorting food out for the dc plus taking them to taekwondko and I'm holed up in a corner of the leisure centre charging new phone as they said in the email it has to be fully charged. Nightmare in rush hour traffic.

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:19

oh no Tea!

I currently have a 5C iPhone - that's a nano sim isn't it?

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:20

I'll stop too then. I've just got in from work, trying to do dinner, I have no phone anyway, so will join a rearranged one instead.

BrandNewAndImproved · 07/07/2016 18:22

I think the 5c is a nano one fibo.

I will join the soon to be rearranged call as well.

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:25

cool.

btw, have you all got the same colour phone?

I'm debating between running tomorrow before work, and collecting it at 3.30 on way home, or getting the phone at 9am and having to try and not get it nicked at school all day......

think I will wait until after work tbh!

marsybum · 07/07/2016 18:26

I think my review will be very short anyway, tried putting in my sim card and it won't switch on! Comes up with android, then x then shows a screen saying Xperia, goes blank and back to the start!!

OoohNewShoes · 07/07/2016 18:27

I think so Fib, I'm using a s4 mini at the moment but I think maybe my sim is so old that it's the wrong size chip or something. The actual chip is bigger than the sim slot.

I've just stopped trying, still no luck.

BrandNewAndImproved · 07/07/2016 18:28

Mines the grey one but someone else very lucky had the rose gold one, I would olive liked the green one as well!

I've set mine up fine Marys. Email Ann and tell her what's wrong.

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:29

oh marsy, that's not good :-(

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 18:31

oooh I'd love a coloured one. Do love a bit of colour in my life!

marsybum · 07/07/2016 18:32

I got the rose gold - it looks pretty, but that's about it!

AnnMumsnet · 07/07/2016 18:44

Sorry guys; not sure what happened with the hangout; will touch base with them tomorrow and see if we can rearrange

OP posts:
AnnMumsnet · 07/07/2016 18:45

And please email any issues and I can sort them.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 07/07/2016 19:19

The phone needs a nano sim, the larger space is for a memory card.

I also got the rose gold and it is very pretty. Not too pink.

Fibonaccied · 07/07/2016 19:20

Thanks Ann Flowers

OoohNewShoes · 07/07/2016 19:30

Thanks Ann!

marsybum · 07/07/2016 19:37

Thanks Ann I've sent you an email about mine, I feel it sums up my life, nice shiny New phone - that doesn't work!!
