Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).
  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.
  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

Q1. Simple to use, fun
Q2. Email reminders and upcoming birthdays listed in date order on site
Q3. Ability to set a price range for gifts - lots of lovely ideas for friends' children but many more expensive than I'd be looking to spend. However there is always a good range of gifts at all price points which are suggested for each person I've added.
Q4. I haven't really used the 'Browse Gifts' section as have stuck to the gifts suggested for each person I've added into the calendar
Q5. Yes - I would like to post in my own additions
Q6. Yes I might buy the gift from Gift Wink, especially if I was in a rush and didn't have time to shop around elsewhere
Q7. 8
Q8 as mentioned previously a price limit woukd be helpful. The ability to save what you have previously selected or items you know someone has to avoid buying a duplicate present would be great

sleeponeday · 24/04/2016 22:05

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

An online memorybank!

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

That it reminds you of dates you can all too easily forget... and makes some surprisingly excellent suggestions, too. I also liked the very wide price ranges offered, which makes it useful across a range of relationships.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

I was hoping, given the similar format, that it would be like Dressipi and you'd be able to tailor suggested presents to the recipient. It would be an aide memoire, but also a tailored present list. I appreciate that would be expensive to programme, but perhaps an idea for the future? It was a bit disappointing to see the heart symbol was a wish list, not a "this is an appropriate suggestion; show me more like this!"

If you could tailor it in that way, it would also be handy to be able to add someone and populate the suggestions with an existing tailored list for someone else whom you already have added, so all you needed to do was tweak, rather than start from scratch.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

The reminders! I'm terrible at remembering dates. It's already going to be great.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

Yes, I would. It would be really helpful for me, actually. I tend to lose track of some amazing sites, and forget to look at others. I would also really welcome being able to see other people's suggestions. It's very easy to fall into a rut in terms of places you shop, so having that expanded would be great, especially smaller and less known names.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Yes. I think the suggestions are great. I especially liked that the gendered suggestions weren't all cliched fairy makeup for girls and football for boys; there was acknowledgement that kids are in fact individual people, and have all sorts of interests, and that a kid might love science and/or Hello Kitty. I was also rather expecting it to offer generic suggestions, without the least originality. I was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of small brands alongside huge chains.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

10 - in fact I already have.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

I'd like it if you could add non-birthday dates. There are various anniversaries I'd like to add, for a start.

decisionsdecisions123 · 24/04/2016 23:33

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Timesaving, fun and a little bit different.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

The better than expected choice of gifts on a clear background.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
The ability to add events that arent just birthdays. For example, present for teacher, gift for a religious occasion etc.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

I'm sure I could live without the website so not sure really!

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

Yes, I spend hours trawling through websites looking for unique gifts for people!

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Yes, if the price was right and the shipping was reasonable.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would.

8 - I would like to see more variety added.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

I added a person then later tried to update their year of birth. This proved to be impossible for me to figure out so I had to delete and start all over again. Also, this person happens to be around 85 years old so I dont think the suggestion of a notebook with the F word would go down very well. I didnt really think that any of your suggestions for her were suitable and they were mostly the same as the suggestions for a much younger woman.

Finally, a low to high selector would be helpful as would a price range slider. All in all I like the idea though as I spend far too long online thinking about what present to buy people. This is a helpful website as it does have some unique gifts.

greenclip · 25/04/2016 09:38

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Birthday gift suggestion site
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Being able to keep all birthday details in one place
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
I have a few suggestions for improvements

  • Better gift choices.
  • Ability to enter a birthday without date of birth. For example I don't know the DOB of many grown adults. Its more important to remember the date. I had to make up a year.
  • Ability to enter anniversaries or other events.
  • Ability to import birthdays
  • Mobile app
  • Ability to purchase items seamlessly, without having to redirect to other sites.
Q4. What features could you not live without? Being able to enter birthday dates is the most important feature. Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? Perhaps. Depends on motivation. If I buy something nice, I might want to recommend it to friends, but perhaps not to an unrelated internet company without intensives. Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why I wasn't impressed with the choice of gifts. I added several birthdays for adults and the gift choice was the same for a 20 year old as a 60 year old. The choices were not particularly inspiring. If there was something I liked on Gift Wink, I would shop around and see if I could get it cheaper elsewhere. Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
  1. It doesn't do enough. There are lots of gift suggestion websites out there already. Gift Wink's choice isnt better.
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink? I think Gift Wink needs to become a "must have" service for people. It does not have enough functionality for me. For example, if customers became reliant on the site because they have a built up funds through the site, or it is more convenient to go to Gift Wink than elsewhere.
Esoresila · 25/04/2016 10:24

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Easy to use and interesting.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Having all the birthdays and anniversaries in one place along with gift suggestions.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
More age appropriate suggestions and not so gender oriented.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The actual date of birth as this is one of the main features of the site.
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Not really as this would make it very similar to Pinterest and Facebook (yawn)

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes if it was for a special birthday and the price was right.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink? None other than what I've already said.
starlight36 · 25/04/2016 10:35

I would like to add that the gift suggestions were so good for my daughter that there were a number of items on there which were already sitting on my Amazon wish list.

Deedee75 · 25/04/2016 10:59

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Simple, convenient
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Giving age relevant ideas for gifts.
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Include delivery prices on the item details, as they can make items more expensive than you think.
Q4. What features could you not live without?
It's a good idea, but I could easily live without all of it.
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes, would be useful to be able to post your own ideas, and also see those posted by others - although maybe it would need some moderating so you don't see everything as some ideas may not be suitable. Plus the option to see ideas posted by others, and those originally posted on the site separate.
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes if they had something I thought was suitable for the person I'm looking for
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
6 - although it's a good idea, there isn't currently a huge amount of selection, and all adults have the same suggestions only separated by male/female.
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
-Options for sorting by price.

-Some adjustments on the add birthdays page as the boxes you complete currently have text in that is too large to read.
-Making use of the likes/dislikes to personalise the gift suggestions better - may require tick boxes in likes/dislikes rather than free text field.
-Generally a very good idea, and I like the overall look of the website and how it automatically gives you the options for saving favourites to gift lists for the people you've already added.

Okay so i've just spent some time on Gift Wink, and ready to review! What a lovely collection of gifts!! :)

How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Instagram Mums

(you know the ones, those instagram mums would love this website and would definitely snap every item purchased for an instagram post!)

What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The website is very visually pleasing and simple to work with. The gifts are all gorgeous and lovely too!

If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
More gifts to choose from. With more lower priced gifts. I would never spend over £15 on a gift for someone other than my kids or husband, so more cheaper gifts would be great! Although if there were more gifts, I'd definitely like to see a £0-£10, £10-£20 etc, filter. And at least 20 things in each price range.

What features impressed you the most?
The wishlist feature! I loved that you can add ideas to each person, but they also know YOU will fall in love with items, so they let you have your own wishlist too! LOL!

Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes! I know some lovely local crafters who sell some things that would be perfect on this site.

On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
Probably a 6. Most Mums I know cannot wait to get to the shops to do their shopping for gifts. For me, I like this site because I can't get to the shops easily (well, i don't drive and I have a toddler who doesn't stay still) so I would prefer to use Gift Wink for gift buying.

Are there any comments or suggestions you’d like to share with Gift Wink.
Only that I'd like to see more lower priced items. I'd LOVE to see more etsy etc inspired gifts! Also, how about a 'teachers' category? Would love to be able to have some inspiration in this area! Bottle of wine? BORING. Would rather find something original and fun on Gift Wink!!

cuddles159 · 25/04/2016 13:17

Thank you for letting me be a tester :)

How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words? its actually better than I thought
What do you like most about Gift Wink? it does include gifts I've never seen or thought about
If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be? a better range of priced presents, not everyone can afford over 20.00
What features impressed you the most? it was simple to use and easy to find the gifts
Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? yes
On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or
family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would 8 I would recommend

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Birthday organizer

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Easy to set up people's details

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
I really did not appreciate being contacted out of nowhere by the MD asking for feedback. Felt kind of rude when I'm already doing it here.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
Um... it's a gift organizer; it's hardly life or death. But the wishlist is useful

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Potentially

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Probably not. Prices are very high given the people I'd use this for are DD's friends, not family whose birthdays I know fine well without the aid of a website.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
2

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
Teacher's category needs some work. Not everyone likes wine.

ThePurpleLobster · 25/04/2016 15:59

Q1. A helpful gift suggestion site
Q2. Very easy to use and suggests some really nice gifts that I otherwise wouldn't have thought of
Q3. Some of the gift suggestions for small children only appear in the 'girls' category, but they are actually equally nice for boys. It'd be nice if they were also listed in both categories.
Q4. The birthday reminder is really useful, but I could probably still live without it!
Q5. No, I'm quite happy with viewing those already listed.
Q6. Yes, although I'd want to check the price against other online shops.
Q7 8, I really like the site.
Q8. It'd be good to have a feature that shows if the gift is actually in stock - some aren't but it's not obvious until you click to visit the individual retailer.

ladypiano · 25/04/2016 19:43

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Easy to use and helpful

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The range of suggested gifts are surprisingly nice! They gave me some really good inspiration, especially for teenagers, who are notoriously difficult to buy for!

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Nothing comes to mind

Q4. What features could you not live without?
Dates of birth, it's nice to have a digital databank!

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes, but only if they were adequately moderated so the site does not become to busy or cluttered.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason
why
Yes, but I would make sure I couldn't get it cheaper elsewhere

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
8, it's a good concept

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I would definitely use this service, and with the right marketing it could be great. I think that it will improve as more member sign up.

CheeryCherry · 25/04/2016 21:15

How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Yes if I have the time!
On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or
family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would.
Probably 10 for several family members!!
Are there any comments or suggestions you’d like to share with Gift Wink.
I would like a list of what I have bought in the past so that I don't replicate ideas.

ponygirlcurtis · 25/04/2016 21:18

Q1. Frustrating but some good ideas
Q2. For the children's birthdays, a lot of the suggestions were quite different and quirky, which I liked.
Q3. I couldn't get suggestions for two of my friends as I don't know their year of birth. This was frustrating.
Q4. There was no feature I thought was particularly innovative.
Q5. Possibly.
Q6. It would depend if I could find the gift I liked cheaper elsewhere or not.
Q7 At the moment, probably not as I didn't have a 'wow this is great' feeling on using it. So: 5
Q8. I was expecting to have some the gift suggestions maybe emailed to me for my friend's upcoming birthday, maybe with further suggestions. SO maybe more email connection. Also, when I was inputting birthday details there was a field for likes/dislikes. This seems to be just for my own records - I was expecting it to help tailor my gift search.
Also also - more suggestions for woman. The ones that came up for my friend's birthday were simply the full list of all gifts being suggested for women.

ballstoit · 25/04/2016 22:09

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Useful, time saving, creative.
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The range of gifts - a variety of price brackets and some ideas for gifts that I never would have thought of.
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
To be able to delete people you have saved on there...I'm divorced and can imagine that being reminded of ex-h and his family's birthdays would have made me delete my account if I'd set it up before the split!
Q4. What features could you not live without?
The reminders are going to be really useful.
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Not at the moment.
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
10...I'm going to get DP to set up an account and then maybe this year I'll get my birthday present on my birthday instead of 3 days later!
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
Link to birthday card sites such as moon pig or just have basic cards on the site which you could order too.

IWasThere4Aug12 · 25/04/2016 22:20

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Birthday reminder service
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Good range of quirky gifts
Q3. If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Need a price filter - pointless suggesting something for £40 for someone I normally spend £15-£20 on
Q4. What features could you not live without?
It's a gift suggestion service - hardly life or death but getting email reminders in advance of birthdays will be useful
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Maybe but only if it's more convenient than Amazon's wish list service which I currently use to suggest ideas for gifts for DCs
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
I'd use it for ideas but would probably check prices elsewhere
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
7 for people who are forgetful and/or cash rich/time poor
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink
Useful to add in other important dates not just birthdays - wedding anniversary, christening etc

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Different gift ideas I wouldn't have usually thought of
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

Q4. What features could you not live without?
I liked it how it was
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
No

8
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I liked the website and found it easy to use but would have liked more gift options

Lariflete · 26/04/2016 09:16

One thing I hadn't mentioned in my earlier feedback, was that there didn''t appear to be a 'Men' section in the gift ideas. That would be particularly useful for me for extended family and friends as I am often stuck with what to get men in the family who I'm not particularly close to but need to buy a present.

Bexwhit85 · 26/04/2016 09:22

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words? Easy, simple to use
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink? Being reminded about upcoming Birthdays, my brain is a little fried at the moment
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
The suggestions are a little too generic - ah 30 year old male, you must all like the same thing. If you could have a system kinda like Graze use on their snack website ( sorry only comparison i could think of) where you can simply say you don't like one thing (i.e alcohol related gifts) and it would take other items in that category out of the selection.
Q4. What features could you not live without? None really, I'm not that enamored with it, it useful but if it didn't exist anymore i dont think my world would come crashing down
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? Yes
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why. Yes probably
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would. 5
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink? You can put in likes and dislikes but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the gift suggestions so seems pointless. Also you can't say if its a like or a dislike? Also i clicked on a product and when it took me through to the website the price was different, you need real-time price updating (they manage it on shopstyle - i don't know where these crappy comparisons are coming from)

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Fresh, appealing, creative.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

Clean navigation and creative gift ideas for children at a mixture of prices

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

More gift suggestions per person

Q4. What features could you not live without?

Reminder service, clear and easy navigation, original gift ideas.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

No not really , I'm really time poor so need a functional service not a Pinterest that takes hours to trawl through.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Potentially if the price and delivery charge was competitive , quite often with other sites like notonthehigh street the prices are a lot higher.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

6 - though I would be concerned we would all buy the same gifts so there would need to be more choice.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

Lovely website and great idea, would have been good to know a bit more, eg when do reminders come through, do we get more than one, how often new gifts are added - just thinking about party season for certain ages.
