This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who tested the Gift Wink website.

Here's what the team at Gift Wink say: "Gift Wink is a brand new site taking the stress out of buying birthday presents for children. All you have to do is add the birthdays of the important people in your life (especially your nieces, nephews and godchildren), and we take care of the rest. Our team of gift spotting mums source the best and most beautiful gifts from leading high street retailers as well as boutique discovery brands, and then email you birthday reminders with handpicked gift recommendations in plenty of time. Feel supremely organised and make someone's day, and never forget an important birthday again."

Testers, please complete the feedback questions below (and please feel free to add any other comments you may have). All testers who give their feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where three Mumsnetters will each win a John Lewis voucher. The prizes are:

Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).

  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.

  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Clear, fresh-looking design

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
That there are gifts ideas on there that I wouldn't have found for myself but are perfect for people I know.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
That there was an option to put a price limit on each person. EG up to £100 for my son / daughter but up to £30 for my Godson.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The little-bit-different gift ideas that would also be used and aren't just more cushions / candle holders.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
No, but mainly because I like this idea as I can never find anything particularly great when I'm shopping Blush

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes I would. Particularly great for my Godson who doesn't live anywhere near me and all of the gift ideas I looked at last night were from online stores.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
10 - I definitely would recommend it, however only if someone expressed a dislike of time / effort / shopping as most of my family and friends love a good mosey around the shops.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I think something that could narrow down the search criteria would be a good idea - perhaps something indicating preferences for each person - as my mum and my sisters aren't into the same things but there didn't seem to be a way of separating gift ideas.

Q1 Modern and Helpful

Q2 The diversity of the gifts is what I like the most. A lot of choices.

Q3 I will add a search option for customers who have an idea for what they are looking for.

Q4 The wish list is great.

Q5 Yes most definitely. Always wonderful to help businesses and customers with new ideas.

Q6 it depends on delivery charges as we don't buy directly from Gift Wink .

Q7 I will say 8 because now a day with google we can found what we want easily.

Q8 The layout of the website is fantastic. Could not see a search option on the mobile site. Will be handy to have one. Overall a great start. Well done.

Links need to be checked and kept live. Have a wider range of people suggesting gifts, it is definitely geared towards younger children. The website may be of use to those that don't use something like iCal and for those that really have no idea what to give, but even then, there are sites out there doing the same, but better.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Clever, simple, helpful

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The idea for this type of service is very good - a simple idea carried out well. It's almost like an E-Diary - as it lets you store as many DOBs as you want - and it emails you to remind you of upcoming birthdays and offers gift ideas for that age range.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
It doesn't have a section for 'Gifts for Men'. It would be good to have this option.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The birthday calendar. It's brilliant, and like I said before, it's such a simple idea and it works well. When you select 'birthday calendar', it lists all the people who's DOBs you have added - and it lists them in date order, so you know who's birthday is coming up next.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Definitely - I am good at finding a bargain, and I love to let people know what I've found. I always look online for the best offers, and great deals - so this website would be an ideal way of sharing this with people that are genuinely interested.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes. It has a great choice of gifts - very varied and there are gifts to suit all budgets. I like the lay out of the website and the fact that it is easy to use - this makes shopping online more enjoyable. The gifts on there are interesting gifts - different to the typical gifts you could get from any toyshop on the high street.

I like the quirkiness of this new gift site. It's going to help me become much more organised and stop me from rushing around at the last minute trying to find an "original" present that looks like I've put a lot more thought into it than I actually really have. Hopefully it will inspire me with some well thought out gift ideas. I like how it shows you which birthday is coming up next and when it is exactly as soon as you log in. Nothing like a friendly reminder to encourage you to start looking for that great gift - and that's where it comes into its own. What a range - from the slightly crazy and eccentric products that we all love, to the most useful and sensible items that anybody would be grateful to receive. There are a wide range of gift ideas and varying prices to match. My husband must be one of the hardest people in the world to buy for, but as soon as I have looked at the suggestions made by Giftwink I can see two products that I would purchase immediately. If I could change anything I would add a filter to allow you to search in price order, so you could work up from the cheaper items to the more expensive and extravagant. I would also think about adding the option of a link so that you can post details of your purchases immediately to your Facebook/Twitter page. This would be an added bonus as it would promote the site too. If you didn't want to post your purchase there should be an easy option to prevent this. I also think a detailed purchase history would be good. I have a notebook in which I write down every gift I've bought for people for birthdays/Xmas etc so that I don't buy anything similar the following year so if this would log for me automatically that would be a great advantage. I don't think I would post my own gift ideas as I prefer to look at what the site may suggest. They may be a little bit more out of the ordinary and definitely more fun. I would make a purchase without hesitation, although I would have a search about online to see if I could buy the same product any cheaper elsewhere. At this moment in time I would give it 8/10 although as with any new venture I'm sure there is still a lot of work in progress. I hope the site are open to the suggestions that we are making.

  1. Simple and well designed
  2. It's really easy to add birthdays and very easy to see at a glance whose birthdays are coming up, as well as suggesting age appropriate gifts.
  3. I'd make the Birthday Calendar an actual calendar as I like to see visually how long I've got left to buy a gift. I understand that might undermine the clean lines of the site, so maybe just a countdown for each date would be helpful. Also, I know it's unavoidable but I found the gendering of the gifts a bit random, especially for the lower age ranges - surely a toy telephone and an Iggle Piggle comforter are unisex toys?
  4. The ease of which you can add birthdays. Despite the random gendering of some gift ideas they generally are very nice selections and are age appropriate which I imagine would be really helpful for those who don't have a clue what is suitable for X year olds.
  5. I don't think so, as it would just take on an Amazon wish-list kind of feel and just become cluttered up with random useless stuff. I rather like to think of it as a springboard from which you can find inspiration for gifts rather than something I would consciously add to.
  6. 8. I have family members that are rubbish at remembering birthdays and I think this would help them with that.
  7. The categories under 'Both' in 'Browse Gifts' go from New baby to 10 year old and then 'Early Teens' and 'Late Teens' - there doesn't seem to be an option for Men and Women unless you suggest either Boys or Girls. Which isn't a massively big deal, but seems a bit strange that it doesn't come up. Also, would be nice to have an idea of how far in advance you receive reminders, and whether you get just one or multiples in the run up!

I seem to be in the minority but I'm not really sure of the point in the site and didn't really like it. Birthday reminders are easy to set up in so many places:phone, e-mail, moonpig etc. The gift suggestions seemed generic ideas like I would get if I just googled 'gift for 10yr old boy'.
Sorry, I did hope to be amazed but obviously isn't for me.

I'm not sure if it was just my laptop / screen not loading properly but when I added names & DOB's, the additional box just said 'what do...' - I guessed it was asking 'what do they like' (or similar) but I couldn't read it properly o had to leave it blank ??

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Birthday alerts and gift service

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

The calendar alerts for birthdays with their ages

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

The gift recommendations need more tailoring to ages and personality/hobbies

Q4. What features could you not live without?

The birthday and age reminders

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

No, too much effort

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Probably not as it takes more time to sift through the recommendations as they're not hugely tailored.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

The gift tailoring needs a huge change and many more vendors to make it something I would feel is useful and time-saving. A personality and hobby quiz for each birthday person would help to give more specific gifts. The prices would need to be competitive for me to use as well.
