This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who tested the Gift Wink website.

Here's what the team at Gift Wink say: "Gift Wink is a brand new site taking the stress out of buying birthday presents for children. All you have to do is add the birthdays of the important people in your life (especially your nieces, nephews and godchildren), and we take care of the rest. Our team of gift spotting mums source the best and most beautiful gifts from leading high street retailers as well as boutique discovery brands, and then email you birthday reminders with handpicked gift recommendations in plenty of time. Feel supremely organised and make someone's day, and never forget an important birthday again."

Testers, please complete the feedback questions below (and please feel free to add any other comments you may have). All testers who give their feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where three Mumsnetters will each win a John Lewis voucher. The prizes are:

1 x £250 John Lewis voucher

Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).

  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.

  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

In addition I think the site should be split into two areas; one for birthdays and the other for Christmas. That way you can add all of your Christmas shopping recipients and start gathering ideas for them too. It would be good to see if you can 'like' or 'dislike' certain gift ideas to then receive updated suggestions. Ie the list automatically updates and removes those that you've declined so that they aren't there next time you view thy recipient. I also think the 'product info' box should be relabelled to 'buy product' and information as a separate tab. I've a bit hooked on the site now!

Can I give some additional feedback? When you email your site members please don't mark the email as high importance. I find it really annoying and it puts me off engaging with the site.

Unlikely
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Easy, useful, pretty

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

The design of the site is lovely and very intuitive to use - the gifts were all lovely and quirly ideas

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

Bigger range of products - more differentiation between ages, for example, I got same gifts for 9 year old and 12 year old girl - when I know there is a big difference between them. Also, got the same for a 29 year old and a 50 year old.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

None really, the upcoming birthdays feature is useful.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

Yes, if it was simple to do.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Yes, it is easy to find gifts and the choice is good so would be happy to click through from the site.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend
or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

5 - lots of similar ideas out there, I'm sure if they wanted something like this they could google themselves, but would mention if it came up.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

Personalised recommendations would be good - ie. if I click I like this, similar stuff comes up, and vice versa with dislikes.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

A birthday reminder site

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

I liked the gift ideas, some things were things I'd never have come across myself. I also like the fact the reminder is a couple of weeks in advance so you have time to browse & order.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

As mentioned previously I'd definitely have more budget options, especially for school friends.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

I really like the fact that I receive suggestions for presents.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

Not particularly!

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Yes I definitely would.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

I'd give an 8- I'm not sure where the catch is though...is it a free service for users?

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

Just wondered how often gifts "update"...browsed the suggestions for birthdays later on in the year & found its quire repetitive. Similarly, the adult birthday ideas seem quite repetitive...not sure whether that's because I haven't given enough info about the people?

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
All in one website to remind you when birthdays are coming up and to help you shop for presents.

  1. Useful and straight forward

  1. Being reminded about birthday with present ideas rather than just telling me there is a birthday coming up.

  1. Don't divide presents into boys and girls. I hated having to look at both sections for ideas. Why can't you combine them?

  1. I don't think there were any I couldn't live without!

  1. Not sure although it could be useful if you could keep track of ideas you've had in advance of people's birthdays.

  1. Possibly. I'm not sure why I wouldn't go direct to the shop website though.

  1. It's a fun idea. It would be great if you suggested present ideas from smaller companies:websites that people wouldn't normally shop with. I love an unusual gift. But please stop having a boy and girl section!!

  1. Gender stereotypes!
  2. Browsing is fairly easy/intuitive.
  3. I would change the gender stereotyping. For example for two year olds the boys section is full of vehicles, superheroes, vehicles and doing toys whereas the girls section is mostly cutesy and pink. Why do we even have separate sections for children by gender? The first section I looked in was for nine year old girls because I have a nine year old girl and I was not impressed by the selction offered as there was little appropriate for my daughter. Then I looked through the boys section which was full of far more appropriate things. I appreciate that there is a 'both' option but anyone with little idea is likely to think that choosing the gendered section will enable them to pick a more appropriate present.
  4. The ease of use was the thing that impressed me most.
  5. Although I can see the benefit of submitting one's own gift ideas I don't think I would want to invest that much time. However, if there was a way of submitting what presents you actually bought for people at the time you bought them then that would be a way of refining ideas without excessive time needing to be spent.
  6. 0
  7. I think it is a brilliant idea but currently the idea suggestions are too limited and not well refined. I think that in time as the database increases and people enter their own information it could become a very useful tool.

Q2. Being able to add suggestions to the wishlist so I can price check them later.
Q3. It could be a smart programme so it would automatically look for comparible items like ebay and amazon. Also a search icon, so for example I am planning a circus party, I could look for circus and find suggestions.
Q4. Having the wishlist pop up for easy access to all my gift recipients. Also the sorting by age was good for me as I only have quite young children to by for so I found that invaluable.

Q5. Yes, as then it would be a bit like pinterest, but without the massive long list to trawl through.
Q6. Yes I would buy from gift wink as it has thrown up some really good suggestions for presents that I did not know existed, and I am always looking for presents.
Q7. 8, as it seems very good, but there's a few things that could be tweaked, as with any new service. I think its a great idea which has a potential to be 'life changing'.
Q8. Definitely adding a search filter would be great, and very helpful. Adding more gifts, but I am sure this is what plan to do. A pricing structure - less than £5, £10, etc. I find this useful on other sites like argos to find school friends presents. All in all a promising idea which I am sure will flourish with time and effort on behalf of the company.
