This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who tested the Gift Wink website.

Here's what the team at Gift Wink say: "Gift Wink is a brand new site taking the stress out of buying birthday presents for children. All you have to do is add the birthdays of the important people in your life (especially your nieces, nephews and godchildren), and we take care of the rest. Our team of gift spotting mums source the best and most beautiful gifts from leading high street retailers as well as boutique discovery brands, and then email you birthday reminders with handpicked gift recommendations in plenty of time. Feel supremely organised and make someone's day, and never forget an important birthday again."

Testers, please complete the feedback questions below (and please feel free to add any other comments you may have). All testers who give their feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where three Mumsnetters will each win a John Lewis voucher. The prizes are:

1 x £250 John Lewis voucher
1 x £150 John Lewis voucher
1 x £100 John Lewis voucher

Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).
  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.
  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Inspiring, helpful
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Instinctive-easy to use, the suggested gifts were really creative- things that I would never think of and gave me some great ideas, the date reminder sent by email is really useful.
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
The price range of presents could be lower-for some people such as my 3 year old's friends I have a budget of £5 and present ideas tended to be on the more expensive side
Q4. What features could you not live without?
I used this on my phone and liked the fact it opened a separate window to view/purchase the suggested products so you could easily move back to the gift wink website
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes, you can often pick up quirky ideas from weekends away in different parts of the country which could be good to suggest to someone else
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes, I have done! The suggestions given have really inspired me to think more creatively about people I have often found hard to buy for!
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
9-for a couple of reasons: it sends you a reminder of birthdays coming up you have inputted, and it gives creative ideas which even if you don't buy, inspire you to browse the linked website or think differently about gifts for that person
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
It would be useful to categorise gifts in price order.
I found the gifts quite gender stereotypical, would be nice to have some more gender neutral stuff for younger children.
The retailers are mostly big names, it would be good to support small businesses in the UK.
I'd be interested how you could use this for Christmas and Mothers/Fathers Day-it would be great not to get the same old 'flowers and chocolates for Mum!

I think there needs to be a larger range of gifts for the older generation. I got exactly the same suggestions for a 33 year old man and a 73 year old man!

  1. A Christmas list. I'll primarily be buying for the same children, some not long after their birthdays. I'd like fresh ideas for Christmas gifts.
flipflump · 16/05/2016 20:04

Also, it would be good to share wish lists with others, much like the Amazon wish list.

Sairelou · 17/05/2016 11:59

Just another addition:

It would be handy to also filter by retailer.

This concept would also make a great app!

Q1.
Quick and easy
Q2.
The simplicity of the site and the selection of gifts offered - there were things that would be perfect gifts. Great ideas!
Q3.
A larger range of ideas (although it's still a very good range)
Q4.
The birthday reminders!
Q5.
Yes I'd find that fun.
Q6.
Yes I would, I already have my eye on a few of their suggestions for my son's birthday (I always shop around online first to check the best price though)
Q7
A big fat 10 from me.

lupus · 25/05/2016 21:38
  1. Simple, useful
  2. Great starting point for ideas
  3. Needs more filters
  4. Frankly, it's a time saver not an essential, so none
  5. No
  6. Probably, but I am quite price sensitive so would research before final purchase
  7. 9, I already have to someone who uses a similar site and frequently buys "novel" choices from there
  8. Seasonal selections would be great both for range diversity but also for those of us who need to buy multiple Fathers' Day gifts at the moment and want each child to give their dad something different
Hoon · 26/05/2016 21:33

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Helpful, organised, inspiring
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
I like seeing some really cool new gift suggestions that have been weeded out by people with good taste from the endless rubbish you can trawl through to get there yourself.

More ability to search by price bracket. Perhaps a basic screen of suggestions could then link to other ideas on a 'if you like this you might like...' type basis.
