Here's what the team at Gift Wink say: "Gift Wink is a brand new site taking the stress out of buying birthday presents for children. All you have to do is add the birthdays of the important people in your life (especially your nieces, nephews and godchildren), and we take care of the rest. Our team of gift spotting mums source the best and most beautiful gifts from leading high street retailers as well as boutique discovery brands, and then email you birthday reminders with handpicked gift recommendations in plenty of time. Feel supremely organised and make someone's day, and never forget an important birthday again."

Testers, please complete the feedback questions below (and please feel free to add any other comments you may have). All testers who give their feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where three Mumsnetters will each win a John Lewis voucher. The prizes are:

Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).
  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.
  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
shopping ideas/help for the unimaginative
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
emails you reminders and ideas
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
more personalized ideas, as the ones for my partner and brother in law were exactly the same, and so were the ideas for my mum and sister, they are all different ages and have different likes/ interests
Q4. What features could you not live without?
i could live without the site completely
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
yes
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
yes i think i might
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would 5
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
maybe have more options for individual likes/interests. i suggest tick boxes for popular likes ideas and an other selction to put your own choice. Also a dislikes box.

Ilovetoread · 22/04/2016 18:54
  1. Quirky, unusual, a bit disappointing and easy to use
  1. I liked the reminders and some excellent suggestions for older teenagers
  1. There are insufficient variety for ages, my daughters got the same suggestions despite different likes and dislikes.
  1. To be honest, I could live without the entire service. I have managed without it so far though as time goes on it will be interesting to see how helpful it becomes
  1. I might post an idea if I found something that was brilliant or particularly unique or someone I know received something like that. This would, of course, depend on the amount of time I had and the ease I could do it.
  1. I would buy a gift as there were a few that I liked on there that I wouldn't have come across and they suited a particular person.
  1. 5, I might mention it in I passing to a friend/relative. I don't think I would go out of my way to recommend it though.
  1. I would like to see some suggestions for older people especially men. Perhaps a few cheaper suggestions too. I found that there was a gender stereotype, for example it was boy/girl but not both. I think that the novelty of the site would probably wear off as the reminders would just get turned off and ignored rather than followed through.
squizita · 22/04/2016 20:00

Q1. Time saving, quirky, quality.
Q2. The wish lists enable you to save good presents well in advance and not forget.
Q3. Make the gender assumptions less absolute eg ADULT RELATIVES ARE NOT ALL PARENTS! Also, fine whisky related gifts aren't just for men, neither are geek joke things. Very disappointed with the choice for my childless/child free sister. Where the wild mums are? Lipstick? She's into geek stuff and fine foods like my husband and there definitely could have been cross over on the 2 lists but there was none. Also you could have girl/boy/show both when "gendering" kids.
Q4. To be honest I could live without all of it. It's useful and fun but nothing felt essential about it.
Q5 Yes but if they were to be shared more widely some "curation" might be needed to ensure description tallies up, or it could end up jumbled and confused.
Q6. Yes if I could not find it cheaper elsewhere. Because once I had the idea I would check amazon and the shops themselves for 10% off etc.
Q7 6/10
Q8 I tried to access the site from phones and 3 different computers at home, work and a coffee shop. In all cases the website failed. I had to go to a recovered version to try it out. It's very odd as I had the same issues on different devices and on different networks: reliability is vital.

Q4. What features could you not live without? I could live without it obv but really find the reminders so helpful
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? Yes
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why I probably would but I would always price compare first, so if say cheaper elsewhere I would buy there

How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Easy way to shop when you have no idea what to buy

What do you like most about Gift Wink?
It gave me some good ideas for presents. It was all easily accessible as well (not always a one-of-a-kind item from some far fetched country that may or may not reach you).

I also appreciated that you were linked through to the retailer rather than ordering via the site and paying a mark up.

If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Get rid of the gendered stuff.

Add more ideas

What features impressed you the most?
I was actually pretty impressed with some of the gift ideas shown for those in my list. There were some scotch glasses with ice that I think I will buy for my husband for Father’s Day!

Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
I’m not a very good present shopper (hence my need for a service like this), so probably not!

On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
Probably 6 or 7 at the moment. I think you need some more gift ideas before it will become a proper success.

Are there any comments or suggestions you’d like to share with Gift Wink
When I was looking for the ‘Women’ category, I didn’t realise I had to be clicked on Girls at the top. It wasn’t showing under Boys (of course), but then when I clicked both, neither Men or Women appeared. This is another reason why you don’t need genders listed at all. Too confusing.

I think when creating a reminder for someone, there should be check boxes for their likes/dislikes, even if it’s just to give me ideas of what to include. You could have a free text box for ‘other’.

The service is a great idea, and I think I will be checking it out more in the future (my Mum’s birthday is next month, the perfect opportunity!). Although a bump to baby shoot for someone who is over 50 might be stretching it a little far!

The ideas do seem to be assuming that all women like flowery, lady things, and men like boy things. The gifts are a little quirky and out there (which is great), but some more mainstream ideas wouldn't go astray. It is very 'trendy' stuff (or should I say 'on point').

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Innovative, modern, inspiring.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The fact that it has gifts separated by age range - I think I would use that feature the most, especially for gifts for my own and friend's children.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
More suggestions of different gifts based on a person's likes.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The reminders! I am so forgetful I need all the help I can get!

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Not particularly myself, but would like to see other peoples ideas.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Most definitely. There are so many fun and unique ideas!

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
10.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I think this is such a great website which is clear and easy to navigate. I love the reminder feature which is very helpful! And the suggestions based on likes has helped me to find a few bits for my son's first birthday (and Christmas for my eldest!) so thanks Gift Wink! :)

shmoopie · 22/04/2016 21:29

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Birthday reminder website

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Getting a reminder that someone's birthday is coming up - I'm a bit rubbish at remembering! Also good to get present inspiration

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
It's all a bit.... generic. The recommendations were incredibly similar for my 28yr old sister & 80yr old dp grandma, despite me putting in different likes & dislikes.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
Birthday reminders - but I could get that my adding a calendar reminder to my phone

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes because as I mentioned it's a bit generic & cliched

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
No. I would want to guarantee I'm getting the best price

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitelywould

5 - the idea is good in principle, however it's not for me. That's not to say it wouldn't be perfect for someone else.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I had high expectations for this and was disappointed as I expected more ideas, something more tailored to age and likes/dislikes

Q3. It would be nice to have a bigger range of products, perhaps this will happen over time.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words? Convenient online birthday reminder with thoughtful gift selection
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink? Being able to have reminders for friends and family with gift suggestions that wouldn't always be first thought of.
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be? Scrap the need for year of birth all together and being able the ability/option to choose 'age range' instead when you're inputting details.
Q4. What features could you not live without? As Gift Wink isn't the first birthday reminder & gift suggestion platform that I've used, I'd say an early enough reminder and ability to purchase the gifts through gift wink.
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink? Yes
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why Yes, if I didn't find it cheaper elsewhere online.
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would 8
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink? Ok, so I also use another platform for gift reminder and purchasing gift items. I like being able to add my own suggestions gift-wise and being able to purchase the gift and having it sent direct to the recipient. This platform is also used for things like secret Santa and you are ablselectiew people's 'birthday lists' if they're not set to private and purchase favourited gifts and notify the person that the gift has been purchased (anon if you want).

Amaksy · 23/04/2016 07:13

I was a tester and have registered to use the GiftWink service. Below are my comments in relation to the feedback questions.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Easy to use, great help, good reminder

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

List of possible gift options, a wide range of selection to choose from and very exciting too (some were items I would've liked to get but would never think of).

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

Putting more thoughts into the gift options as I noticed it was suggesting the same items for females aged 63/32/27.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

Forgetting people's birthday so its good and handy having a reminder tool especially one that'll calculate the age too.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

Yes that would be something I would like

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

Yes I would as it links to major high street stores anyway

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

8- a great reminder and gift tool

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

Being able to sort the gift by price value i.e. low to high/ high to low and also sort gift options by category e.g. experience days, ornaments etc. I like that you're able to remove/ edit people's birthday details once entered which is useful as you may want to update with year (if known) and the likes/ dislikes too.

Kelloges0811 · 23/04/2016 07:16
  1. Simple, basic, helpful reminder, gift suggestions, free service.
  2. Reminder and gift suggestion in one, few clicks and can buy item.
  3. Adding a link to a company that sells cards personalised online would be an added bonus.
  4. Age at Next birthday is a brilliant setting. I am always stumped trying to think how old my relatives /friends are at Next birthday just about remember how old I am.
  5. Being able to post own gift ideas are great too. If using other sites or retailers and come across a great gift would be ideal if it could be shared with other mumsnetters.
  6. Would have to be a reliable retailer, recommendation or incentive/offer to encourage me to buy from gift wink.
  7. Recommend Gift Wink as of today with a score of 7.
  8. Suggestions would be to add an online personalised card company, an edit mode to update likes, dislikes and these change very often with children and having many nieces and nephews this would be very useful.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
gift ideas
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
unusual / quirky / different gift ideas ie. things I haven’t thought of.
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
How often are you going to update the gift ideas? Mine have not changed at all and I would like to see new ideas as they arrive – ideally daily or weekly. Are you going to have a search facility for different price ranges?
Q4. What features could you not live without?
Saving wishlists and clicking on link to go to store to purchase.
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
not sure because I already use Pinterest for that
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
depends on the price – I would search the web for the best price and free delivery if possible as well as discounts and special offers
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
6
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I like the name giftwink – catchy
good that it tells you the age of someone (IF you know their birthdate!)
Wish list does not appear correctly on the screen on my laptop and neither does add birthdays. Irritating. Both seem to work on my tablet. Is website designed more for tablet/phone or laptop/computer? I like to use both at different times.
Option to have birthday calendar as an actual calendar please.
Option for countdown of days until the birthday so you know how much time you have left to buy something.
Not a very wide selection of gift ideas yet (hope you plan to improve this)

NaraDeer · 23/04/2016 13:19

Q1. Useful, clear, easy to use

Q2. Seeing things I would never of thought of myself

Q3. I'd like for the interests that you put in to reflect what's recommend

Q4. The suggestions from less common sites

Q5. Yes

Q6. Yes, after price checking it wasn't cheaper elsewhere

Q7. 7

Q8. Have interests reflected in suggestions, filter by price option would be handy, keep the site clean and minimal as it is.

RicardoSilva · 23/04/2016 13:24

Q1: A very good idea that still seems to be in development.
Q2: The birthday reminders and the blog to remind for seasonal gifts.
Q3: When I add a product to my wishlist I get returned back to the top, that's a bit anoying.
Q4: Having sugested presents is good but I think the choice is quite limited.
Q5: Yes sure, if i can sugest things that will benefit/help me that's good.
Q6: Yes, already saw something that I could buy for one of my daughters, I would still do some browsing for price comparison as I always do.
Q7: 7, as I think is a novelty and a good idea, but needs more development.
Q8: I would suspect that this site would appeal a lot to women and there are no sugestions on presents for Men.
A back button on the product description so that one is returned to where it left from.
A better support for a wide variety of internet browsers (the wishlist on Crome don't work so well, picture attached)

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Quirky, cute little birthday saviour!

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
I like that the products suggested are individual and not your typical mainstream offerings. The individuality is refreshing.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Maybe a little bit more space to put information about your family and friends. Like if you could create profiles for them. Then you could give feedback and also recommend products yourself.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The basic features that you can input about each person. Name, birthday etc.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Absolutely. I think that this could only make the website stronger. More of a community with everyone getting involved.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
If something was suggested to me that ticked the right boxes then definitely.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
Probably an 8. I feel it is a wonderful site but it just needs a little something more. Perhaps more of the community feel.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I love the idea, the website is beautiful and the quirky products are luscious. For a brand new concept it's amazing and it can only get better with time.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 23/04/2016 22:35

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Unique and quirky way to remember birthdays and buy gifts.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
Being reminded of birthdays I might not remember until the last minute!

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Wider range of product suggestions

Q4. What features could you not live without?
Nothing is essential to life, but the reminder service is the most useful.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes, though I do usually shop around for best price, so would be tempted to do that. But if it was a unique rather than mass marketed item, then would buy through them.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
Probably a 7.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
Wider range of gift ideas would be useful.

ginauk84 · 24/04/2016 10:41

Q1. Birthday reminder service and present ideas. Easy to set up.
Q2. Being able to classify birthdays into ages, genders etc so you can see relevant presents. Having a phone that recently died I lost my birthdays in the calendar so it is nice to store them somewhere safe.
Q3. Refine presents into price range such as less than £10, less than £20 etc.
Q4. Being able to refine or sort by price
Q5. No, not got the time
Q6. No not enough choice
Q7 0 - nice idea but not enough choice and annoying it takes you to other websites, prefer something like not on the high street or Amazon where I can order all in one place.
Q8. Presents weren't overly relevant - recommended a bump to baby photo shoot for a 63 year old?!?! Not a lot of choice in general. I like the idea of putting in their interests and getting relevant presents but it doesn't seem to work as I put in golf for my mum but didn't get any golf related presents. Prices don't include postage and nowhere does it state plus p&p - this needs to be added.

Jodunne · 24/04/2016 11:20

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Refreshing, intersting, growing

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
The range of gifts for people, some are quite unusual and the links it gives to go and buy straightaway so no further research needed.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
More gifts suited to ages as the range is big. For example it gave the same gifts for a 45 year old husband as a 72 year old dad and I wouldn't choose the same gift.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The birthday reminder section is good but as Gift Wink needs to grow more and give more ideas and features it is hard to answer this question at the present stage

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes, as I think it needs more gift ideas as I did find some quite generic. All women had the same sort of gifts but not all women like the same sort of gifts they want something different.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Hard to say, I would propably look there for inspiration but unless I saw the 'wow' gift I am not sure I would buy at this stage. I think there is still a lot of work to be done on this site.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend
or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
Probably 5 at the moment but with some work on it I am sure it could get to near 8 or 9.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
A great idea but still in its infancy, it needs to grow and loose some of the generic ideas for gifts. It needs to find more unusual and 'wow' gifts and lots more gifts around £20 or under. I would be interested in seeing where it is in a year's time.

I think this is a great site - I wish I knew about it before getting into hot water with the Mother-in-law!!

  1. great idea
  2. the reminder service, if it worked properly! I had entered a birthday for this weekend but although it appreared on my list of birthdays I didn't recieve a reminder for it
  3. ability to set when and how often you recieved reminders, or for it to be obvious when a reminder would be sent, I couldn't find any info on how long before the birthday id get one.
  4. the reminder service
  5. no not really 6)maybe, I might buy one of the more unusual gifts but the clothes/books I could get elsewhere.
  6. 3/4good idea in principle but didn't appear to work well for me.
  7. good idea, similar to sites like not on the high street but with the addition of the reminder service.needs some tweaks to make it more user friendly

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Handy site for people that can't remember birthdays!
Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
It's an easy way to shop for birthdays, I'm legendarily terrible at remembering to buy presents in time, so I could see myself using this in the future. It also had several links to sites I wouldn't even think of using usually, which made a nice change.
Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Maybe there could be a bit of a budget section - it's was a bit of a shock seeing some of the prices on things that were truly gorgeous, but I can't justify spending £45 on a skirt for my three year old.
Q4. What features could you not live without?
I've (just about!) managed well enough so far with just a calendar, so I'm pretty sure I could live without all of the features on Gift Wink. It's certainly handy though.
Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Maybe I could create my own 'budget' section (see q. 3)
Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
I've seen a few lovely bits, and it's getting dangerously close to DDs birthday now so I think a coffee and a more in depth perusal is in order this evening....
Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

  1. It's not going to change my life, so I'm certainly not going to run around telling everyone I've ever met that it's a must have. I do have a few friends who are just as rubbish at remembering birthdays as me though, and I think they would appreciate it.
Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink? Again, a 'budget' section - maybe £20 and under? I didn't actually log in using my Facebook, but it would be pretty handy if it could integrate birthdays from your friends list somehow. It wasn't overly easy to use on a mobile (I kept tapping the wrong bits, but I expect that's just my stupidity more than anything) and a couple of times it took me straight to my upcoming birthdays rather than saving a date. All in all, it's a pretty good little site that I'm surprised someone hasn't thought of before.
