Here's what the team at Gift Wink say: "Gift Wink is a brand new site taking the stress out of buying birthday presents for children. All you have to do is add the birthdays of the important people in your life (especially your nieces, nephews and godchildren), and we take care of the rest. Our team of gift spotting mums source the best and most beautiful gifts from leading high street retailers as well as boutique discovery brands, and then email you birthday reminders with handpicked gift recommendations in plenty of time. Feel supremely organised and make someone's day, and never forget an important birthday again."

Note added 4 May: As a result of the feedback given by MNers - Gift Wink have asked us to pass on the below -

We would like to say a huge thank you. The level of detail and insight we received from you guys far exceeded our expectations and we genuinely appreciate every single comment we received. We are going to work on a couple of themes of work as a result:

  1. More gift content! We are going to add more gift content, especially in the women and men's sections. A number of you would also like a section with lower priced gifts, so we will add this in too (handy for school birthday parties!).

  1. Filtering the gift suggestions. A lot of you wanted to filter the gifts on price, so this is a priority for us to implement. We are also going to build some gift categories in the women and men sections around themes such as "gardening" or "beauty" or "experiences", so you can filter against the type of gift you want.

  1. There were a few functionality issues that we are need to work on. Not knowing the year of birth was a common issue when you were trying to add in birthday alerts, so we are adding in some age bands so you can still give us a good idea on roughly how old they are (so we can get the gift suggestions right). We are also going to build a better way to serve gift suggestions that match what people's likes and dislikes are.

We're completely committed to building a product that helps you remember important birthdays and browse gift inspiration in the most efficient way possible! Please do let us know if you have any further thoughts or feedback. We'd love to hear from you.

  1. Online birthday calendar

2.Some interesting and quirky gift ideas and the layout was inviting.

3.I don't understand the point of the likes/dislike question. It's not taken into account when gifts are suggested so who is it for?

4.I could live without it all

  1. No - I want the work done for me!

  1. Ah, now if you were buying from Giftwink then yes, I might, because you could combine postage and you've already registered details. But when it sends you to all these different sites and you have to re register and do one off postage etc then prob not.

  1. 2 -I might say 'oh I saw a cool pair of earrings on etsy', but I wouldn't say 'oh I saw a cool pair of earrings via Giftwink on etsy.'

  1. it asks for info re names, relationships and birthdays but doesn't tailor the suggestions. It might as well just be a site saying 'here are some nifty ideas for a five year old' or whatever. Even though I put specific but simple likes for my giftees (eg 'likes football' 'likes craft') it still gives the same, generic suggestions for different people (eg all boys age 19+ get suggested a whiskey glass). And suggestions for my delightful teenage nieces were a 'fuck it' journal. Not really an aunty present I want to give.

Also I have a birthday to buy for coming up on 29th April but haven't received an email reminder yet - I wonder how much notice I will get -don't want to be using next day delivery!

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Easy to setup and use, pretty and clean.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
How easy it is use. So simple.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
Add gift budget.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The reminder service.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
It would be great to add my own gift ideas if I'm making a shortlist for a particular person. If this question is asking if I personally want to contribute to the gift ideas on the site itself for others to use, then yes, I would be interested potentially. I'm guessing the site makes cash by click throughs? If so, perhaps sharing the revenue with the person who found the gift may incentivise people but I can imagine this is v complicated.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes I would... I've seen some great suggestions for my sister's birthday so I may click through.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member?
Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
8

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
Maybe add categories.

How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
A website offering a consolidated list of gift suggestions based loosely on age

What do you like most about Gift Wink?
I do like having visibility of all upcoming birthdays, Im not sure if the site has a reminder system that I may have missed due to not having any birthdays due in the near future - I did try make one up, but didn’t get an alert

If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
The ability to edit profiles, it doesn’t work at all. And the ability to filter your search by your available budget

What features impressed you the most?
None really, I have used wicked uncle in the past for gift ideas, and I have to say that while you can’t store profiles, the gift suggestions are much better.

Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Not really - I think the entire site needs more work before I spent time inputting ideas.

On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
0 - I was really unimpressed with the site, the gift suggestions seemed not to match the likes list you were required to enter, which in my view seems to defeat the object of inputting these as they don’t show on the birthday calendar. As mentioned above you cannot edit birthdays profiles once entered, which will need fixing before any major launch.

Are there any comments or suggestions you’d like to share with Gift Wink
As above, there is quite a lot that needs fixing. It would be nice if the wish lists would allow suggestions from other sites as Amazon does, as otherwise you need to maintain a number of wish lists on different sites.

It’s a nice idea, and a good concept but I think more work is required to make it really useful.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Simple, useful.

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

It's an attractive app which allows you to input as many birthdays that you want to remember.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

When you've finished adding a birthday you should just be able to save only rather than 'save and add another'. A couple of times I inputted a birthday and pressed skip and browse by mistake and it didn't save the birthday as I didn't want to add another at that time.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

The homepage which lists upcoming birthday is good.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?

Yes

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why

I put in what my relative are interested in e.g. Gardening and nothing like that came up... The present were lovely but very general.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

4- I think the actual reminder bit. Im well known for leaving birthdays till last minute

5-
yes I would definitely be interested.
I would also like to see a 'send to friends/family' link so they can shop from the suggestions too

6- I think I most likely would like to give this a try. If something came up that I felt was 'just right' and the right price I would definitely buy from the website

7-
I would say 7. If you could just fix the issues as mentioned it would get a 10/10 from me

8- maybe advertising to make it a bit more popular (magazines/tv etc not just online) as it seems 'safer' to buy from. More options to input when creating a birthday reminder or a mini quiz of that person to try and matche better gifts for them?
Like the justfab website and shoes lol.

And there needs to be a bit more choice for men (that isnt booze related too please)

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Easy and helpful

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
That it is very easy to move around the site and easy to add the birthdays

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
A way to organise the gifts in price order or for a specific budget

Q4. What features could you not live without?
The easy to access birthday diary

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
No, not really as would like to use the site to find gifts without having to search myself

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Yes, as I already seen some good present suggestions for my son what I wouldn't have thought about buying. Although, I would still need to compare the price to see if its value for money.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
Maybe a 7, ass easy to use, but still needs a bit of work

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
I would like maybe a way to try to tailor the gift list, as my daughter hates pink and girly things.
Also, a better way to search the gifts with subheadings, like gadgets, novelty etc, as everything is just thrown together.

Q1.
A useful guide if you don't know the recipient very well (ie they're not your partner or child)

Q2.
It's nicely set out and links to the relevant site.

Q3.
I thought the suggestions for my daughter were very sexist; she was recommended fairy things, skirts, princess stuff etc. When I changed it to 'boy' it was all toy BBQs, dinosaur stuff etc.

Q4.
I haven't had the email alerts as the birthdays I entered are quite far off, but that sounds useful (as long as not too frequent).

Q5.
I would, but I try to buy more niche gifts.

Q6.
I liked the look of one of the recommended gifts for my daughter, but I won't be buying the 'fairy' version of it.

Q7
Probably 5. It's an interesting concept but I'm not sure it replaces what's already out there.

Q8.
It'd be good if you could ask people to make a wish list, then you'd have a bit of guidance about search words.

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?

Efficient, good idea

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?

Reminders in good time, and the link to present ideas

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?

The present suggestions don't seem to reflect the age or interests of the people listed. I got the same suggestions for females of very different ages and with different interests. If there's an algorithm which starts to prompt better suggestions as you put in more info that would be great.

Q4. What features could you not live without?

The reminder is useful (though l've lived without it so far...)

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
Yes- I'd find the service more appealing of it had 'crowd sourced' ideas.

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
Possibly. It would be the first place I'd browse following a reminder- but so far nothing came up that was suitable for anyone I could think of.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would

3

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?

Improving suggestions based on interests would be helpful.

There was a technical problem when I tried it out the first time- i had to go back to enter a year of birth and it kept on freezing, so it seemed that I was unable to edit an entry.

A record of what you've given in the past would be useful.

It would also be good to have a place to jot down or bookmark ideas for people at different points in the year (so if you see or think of something that would really suit someone or someone mentions a gift they'd love months away from their birthday you can tag it onto their entry so it pops up with the reminder.

There appear to be a few bugs - the calendar page was cramped and didn't show full info, and the final drop down menu didn't load so I'm not sure what that was for. I couldn't scroll lengthways across the page to see what was loaded so not sure if I missed anything. Unable to add someone without full birthday details - some people I only know the month or day and month and not the year so had to add made up date - it would be good to allow flexibility if possible. Being able to track what you have given people in the past would be great to avoid buying the same type of thing again by mistake. A really good idea though and one I'll definitely be using :-)

Q1. How would you describe Gift Wink in a couple of words?
Useful prompt

Q2. What do you like most about Gift Wink?
I like that most of the suggestions are a bit 'off the beaten track' and that they're not exclusively pink and sparkly for girls or football and dinosaurs for boys.

Q3.If you could change one thing about Gift Wink what would it be?
I have more than one thing I'd amend, so hopefully you'll indulge me!
I'd like to be able to set a budget for each child (my own children would likely have a bigger budget than friends children, for example) and be show gifts that are within that budget. Or, more complicatedly, combinations of gifts that would work together for within the budget.
I'd add the option for broad categories for each child that could be used to match to tags on a gift. For example one child might love dinosaurs, while another loves being creative and a last one is obsessed with Lego.
In a perfect world, being hugely busy, I'd like it if a month or so before the birthday in question Gift Wink sent me an email saying "X's birthday is coming up! Would you like us to pack and send the following gift idea?" with a suitable present and big yes/no buttons. Yes means a quick Paypal, then job is done and present is on its way. No leads to "Do you want more suggestions?" which takes to a page of ideas or "Already got it covered.".
Also, I'd like more FAQ information.

Q4. What features could you not live without?
I'm pretty organised anyway with an electronic family calendar that sends reminders for upcoming birthdays, so there's nothing Gift Wink is offering that I couldn't live without.

Q5. Would you be interested in posting your own gift ideas to Gift Wink?
To be honest, not unless there was some kind of incentive in it. I'm insanely busy and have plenty of other things to fill my time with!

Q6. Would you buy a gift from Gift Wink? If no, please tell us the main reason why
I might use it for ideas, but honestly I'd probably then go and price check elsewhere first.

Q7 On a scale of 0-10 how likely would you be to recommend Gift Wink to a friend or family member? Please use a scale where 0 is would not at all and 10 is definitely would
If it came up in conversation and someone mentioned they were struggling with ideas and remembering birthdays, I would mention it. But I don't think I'd go and scream it from the rooftops or anything. So probably about a 7.

Q8. Are there any comments or suggestions you'd like to share with Gift Wink?
It's a nice idea, and I'm sure it'll prove beneficial to a lot of people. :)
