This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who are testing out Mini Milk.

Here’s what Wall’s say: “Small, but perfectly formed, our Mini Milk range is a firm favourite within the Wall’s range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours, Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate, Mini Milk is a yummy treat you can feel confident giving to your kids this summer.”

Here are some questions to get you started, but please feel free to add your own comments too:

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
  2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
  3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
  4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback, as well as completing the short feedback survey we will be emailing to you, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Wall’s on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Great! A good family product that I myself had and loved as a child. Dependable, hasn't changed. A classic that can be enjoyed by young and old! :)

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

My DS who is 7 tried them. He has had them before but not for a good couple of years. He really enjoyed it, he particularly likes the vanilla flavour.

My DD who is 4. She couldn't remember the last time she had one. She also loved the vanilla one. My two are milk mad so I think that's why the leaned towards vanilla.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Oh? I think I have answer these questions above! LOL. In general, they both really enjoyed them and they were great to hand out after running around outside and getting all hot and bothered in this wonderful weather!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. They are great as a little snack and still as tasty as ever. Although, I don't think this product would be new to anyone? Everyone I have spoken to already remember mini milks from their childhood. I think they may just get a bit lost on the shelf if you know what I mean? Amongst all the snazzy top range ice creams... they seem a bit hidden?

Hope that helps and thanks you for the voucher... we really enjoyed them! :)

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Very positive, nice to have 12 in a pack which is a fair amount!

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

My 5 year old tried them and loved them!

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Yes, loved the creaminess of them. Favourite was the vanilla, which was also all our favourite! We'd happily have a box of this flavour!
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, great to have a healthier ice lolly!

  1. Good- tasty and not too big for smaller children to manage. Nice packaging and good value for money
  2. My 3 year old tried them and has had them before.
  3. Yes she enjoyed them, strawberry is her favourite flavour. She likes that she can manage them herself without too much help from me.
  4. Yes I would recommend them. They are good value for money and the perfect size for little hands. They are good as a pudding and she really loves the strawberry ones. My husband also enjoys them as the bring back memories of his childhood

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I like them, they're a reasonable size cool treat as opposed to a Magnum or suchlike which are a huge number of calories
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

DD(12) and DS(10) tried the Mini Milks. They've eaten them before but not for ages.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They enjoyed them but we had a bit of an issue in that they only really wanted the strawberry ones.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I think we'd recommend because it's the sort of thing that's easily overlooked in favour of more high profile treats.

mjmooseface · 11/06/2015 10:39

Just had another mini milk for breakfast because they have milk in them so they count as a healthy breakfast, right?! ;)

I absolutely loved trying these Mini Milks out! They were my ice cream of choice when I was a kid and I hadn't had one since! I think they taste more milky now than they used to, which isn't that surprising as they are enriched in calcium! ;)

Seriously, though. The chocolate one was lush (that's the one I had for breakfast this morning) but all of the flavours are great! My husband wasn't too keen on them. And my son was so wary of them! :') He's 2 and autistic and in a very weird place with food at the minute which is a shame as I was so looking forward to sharing this delightful treat with him! Maybe when he's a bit older? Maybe not! More for me muahah! :P

I would definitely recommend these ice creams. They are tasty and very refreshing, whether it's for breakfast or an afternoon snack, both indoors and out! I thought £2 for 12 ice lollies seemed reasonable. I would pay that for them in future.

Oh, and I like the packaging for them, too!

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Not too big but not tiny either. About the right size to be an occasional treat.

2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DS1 (3yo) & DS2 (2yo). Neither had tried them before.

3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Both seemed to enjoy them & got excited when subsequent ones appeared. DS1 got a bit anxious about them melting ASD sensory thing & DS2 took a while to figure out how to eat them but once they got going the lollies disappeared pretty quickly! DS1 prefers strawberry, DS2 likes "clock-lat".

4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Probably, if they asked! I remember them from when I was a child & am pleased they've endured as a brand long enough for me to share that memory with my DC.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Love them - we all do.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
6 and 5, both have had them before and really like them.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Chocolate their favourite, vanilla mine. Husband likes the strawberry.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes - they're a good size, not too sugary and seem more 'wholesome' than something like a Fab.
JustCallMeBaldrick · 11/06/2015 23:00
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I like the packaging - they're easy to find in the freezers! - and the price is very reasonable.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
All 4 tried them, (DTS 9, DD5, DD15months) The older ones have had them before.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
We all enjoyed them, not just the children! DT1 liked that they were icecream but on a stick (?!), DT2 liked the fact that he could have more than 1 at a time, DD1 'loves them because they're tasty', and the toddler ate hers with a huge grin :-) No one favourite flavour here, although the chocolate were the first to go.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would, as they are a good size for a treat or dessert.
WishUponAStar88 · 12/06/2015 13:38

Sorry I did the survey a while ago but forgot about these questions ...

  1. good - nice to get 12 in a pack.
  2. dd is only 9 months so hadn't tried mini milk or any ice cream/ lolly before.
  3. vanilla and strawberry seemed the biggest hits but as she's little only had a little of each (which worked well for me ...)
  4. yes. When a little older I would imagine they'll be the perfect treat!
Flingmoo · 12/06/2015 16:04

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? Just how I remember them from my childhood - yummy!
2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? My 1yr old tried one and he loved it.
3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? He loved it and was easily able to hold and eat it himself despite only being 12 months old. He did give me the last little bit though!
4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Would definitely recommend as not too unhealthy and perfect for the whole family.

carolineandryanandseb · 13/06/2015 08:25
  1. Good first impression, packaging stood out clearly and the label says exactly what it is.
  2. Tested on my son who has just turned 3. He has never had them before.
  3. My son didn't like them tbh- he was keen to try them for the first time but just didn't like the flavour/texture. He gave it to me to finish but I didn't like very much either- smelled and tasted too strongly of dairy (I know they're made of milk so please don't laugh at that!) it's just that the milk flavour overpowered the supposed flavour and the flavour itself tasted very artificial, like it does when they try and disguise a child's medicine with flavouring). He didn't even want to try one after that and I gave them away- sorry!!
  4. I obviously couldn't and wouldn't recommend, based on our experience, but having said that we had no issues with them really, it was just a matter of not liking the taste and that's a very personal thing. Given that so many growth hormones are given to cows though (that aren't destroyed by the pasteurisation process) I would suggest they use organic milk. And real flavouring. Then I would recommend :)
nailslikeknives · 13/06/2015 14:34

I'm not sure how (draconian lettuce weaving parents) but I missed out on mini milks as a child! I have spent the last week and a bit making up for it!

The kids, 2&4, have enjoyed them too.
They were perfect for the 4yo, right size, he liked choc and vanilla.
2yo found them a bit big and 'too coldy' so he put his down on a plate in between licks. He liked the same flavours. Neither child was that keen on strawberry but ate them once the other flavours had gone.

They had both tried mini milks last year on a friend's recommendation but they were a bit big and def 'too coldy', so I ended up with 2 half eaten lollies. This year, the 4yo has manfully made it through his whole lolly every time, the 2yo had a pretty good go.
I would recommend them to friends and I've offered them to their chn already when they've been round to play - with parents present, all of whom like mini milks.

In the future, how about two tone mini milks? Or one flavour but shaped in a twist?
I like the simplicity of mini milks, nothing artificial, mainly milk, but the kids are attracted to more lurid options like the mini twisters which were positioned next to the mini milks in morrison's freezer. It would help to lure them to the mini milks if they were a bit more like their competitors in appearance.

GiraffeAHolic · 13/06/2015 15:52
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

I have always considered Mini Milks to be ice Lolly's for younger children, a nice size and a more reasonable price. I was actually unaware that you could buy multipacks.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

All 3 of my children tried the Mini Milks, dds aged 7 and 1 and dc aged 3 (as well as me and my husband!) My eldest daughter had tried them before but not for a few years. My son had never tried them and it was my youngest's first ever lolly full stop?

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They all really enjoyed the Mini Milks. They loved the flavour and the size was great as they didn't get bored half way through. Also they were able to finish them before they started my melting. My eldest two preferred the chocolate ones and my 1 year old liked the vanilla. As an aside, both my husband and I found them to have a 'powdery' flavour and aftertaste which was slightly odd.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would recommend Mini Milks to others. I'm really glad we've rediscovered them and will definitely be buying more multipacks. So much better to have these in the freezer than having to spend £1 a time on individual lollies each time.

Thank you for letting us be part of the trial.

OK, I need some help! Have received the vouchers (hooray!) but now can't find anywhere that has them in stock. Have tried Co-op, Tesco and Waitrose but no luck. Can any kind person tell me where they managed to find them in stock? Thank you!

auntyentropy · 13/06/2015 21:39

I found some in Sainsburys

CraftyCrafterson · 14/06/2015 07:20

First impressions were good, they looked fun and appetising. Had appeal to me and kids. Seemed a good size and didn't look too full of colours and bad stuff.
My 3yo tried these (but the baby may have had a lick or two also). She was very happy with them and loved the pink ones. She hasn't had them before (even though she would swear she has Hmm)
She loved the lolly and was asking for another as soon as it was finished.
I'd recommend the lollies as I thought they were a decent size, reasonable price and not too bad for a treat.

ChampagneTastes · 14/06/2015 10:12

Sorry for being so late on this, the voucher was held by the Post Office for lack of postage. And then DS decided he didn't like ice-cream for a few days...

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
A good child sized treat that isn't too naughty.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DS is nearly 3. He has had mini-milks before.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
I have never seen so little mess after an ice-cream - every drop was carefully savoured. He grinned throughout it so I guess that means it was a winner. He very definitely likes the chocolate one best.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Absolutely, they are a good size, not too naughty but just enough to feel like a bit of a treat.
Mouldypineapple · 14/06/2015 13:48

Overall impression: good! Nicely packaged, good size for small children, good to have 3 flavours to choose from.
Tried by dd age 5. Enjoyed all flavours especially the strawberry. Nice smooth texture. Some months ago we tried some that were a bit 'gritty, But these were fine.
I would buy them again and would recommend them to others.

Greymalkin · 14/06/2015 20:39
  1. Overall impression was good. I liked the packaging, the portion size was sensible and the ice creams didn't melt really quickly like some do, so less mess. The straightforward colours made he flavours very recognisable for my two year old.
  1. My two year old son tried the mini milks, he hasn't tried them before
  1. DS really liked the mini milks. He particularly liked the chocolate flavour and asks to have it for breakfast!! Er, no...
  1. Yes I would recommend these to family and friends. They are a sensible size treat, for kids and adults. They taste really creamy, and don't feel like you are missing out on sweet things.
jelliebelly · 14/06/2015 20:46

Both my 9 and 6 year old loved them! Couple of suggestions - 1. Lolly sticks should be longer 2. Wrapper could be easier to open.

Perfect size and loved all 3 flavours.

peakypie · 14/06/2015 21:31
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
same as always...love them!
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
yes many times. my partner and i ate them in the sunshine, along with our 3 yr old daughter and 1 yr old son who enjoyed his first mini milk altho most of it ended up on him rather than in him.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
my daughter loves the strawberry, perfect size and being pink is the perfect colour. great treat for little ones.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
yes, ideal as a summer treat and good value too.
pooter · 14/06/2015 21:58

Im very late for this as i had to make a special trip to the post office to pay £2.70 to pick up the voucher as no stamp had been attached - but as we were on our way to our holiday i havent been able to get the actual mini milks yet. Will do soon though.

milliemoon · 14/06/2015 22:07
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
We really liked them, they were just the right size
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
My son aged 2, he hadn't tried before
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
He loves the chocolate one best.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milk
Yes
Osquito · 15/06/2015 10:04
  1. Positive - they're simple little treats.
  2. Both did. DSD aged 7, who said she had had them before, and DS aged 1 had a bit of the vanilla and chocolate.
  3. DSD liked the vanilla (her favourite flavour for most sweets) and the strawberry, did not try the chocolate. DS seemed to like them but refused any more after a few sucks - perhaps too cold for him.
  4. I would, because now I know what they are like and it's a nice alternative to the usual simple juice-only lollies that people seem to choose.
