AngelieMumsnet · 18/05/2015 15:09

This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who are testing out Mini Milk.

Here’s what Wall’s say: “Small, but perfectly formed, our Mini Milk range is a firm favourite within the Wall’s range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours, Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate, Mini Milk is a yummy treat you can feel confident giving to your kids this summer.”

Here are some questions to get you started, but please feel free to add your own comments too:

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
  2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
  3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
  4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback, as well as completing the short feedback survey we will be emailing to you, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Wall’s on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Many thanks for the opportunity to test these.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Good - nicely packaged. Good size. Great for children as a treat.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

Children are 7&5. They both tried them, both liked them. They've both had them before, but not for a couple of years. If I let them choose ice-cream they'd favour more flashy stuff (that's usually too big for them).

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Both enjoyed mini-milks. DD preferred strawberry, DS preferred vanilla. They liked the texture and the flavour. I think they really get on with the shape of them too.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes - nice size. Unlikely to make them sick! they get eaten before they melt and get sticky.

Thank-you!

1.What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

They are small! But actually we all enjoyed them - we'd forgotten how good they taste!

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

Ds (11) and dd (9) both tried them. They'd both had mini milks but only when younger, so probably not for 4-6 years? I think of them as a preschooler treat

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Yes - they were both pleasantly surprised! Dd liked chocolate (as did I) and DS preferred vanilla or strawberry - which also meant no squabbles over favourites! Dd liked th 'rich chocolate flavour' and ds like ' the creaminess, and that it is really refreshing. Dh and I have had them too, and also enjoyed both the texture and flavour more than we remembered - very creamy and with good flavour cut through . Ds did think they were quite small - and suggested you should do 'mega milks' too!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes ... But given the size defn as a little treat for friends with kids the same age - both of mine felt they probably needed two! I wouldn't prob give them out to visiting children - not cool enough - but I quite like the small portion size.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
We liked them - the whole family. Well packaged, easy to unwrap for my older child and also quite a good size, not too big.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Both my children tried Mini Milks and also my DS's friends when they came for playdates. I have DS who is 7 and DD who is 2. DS had tried mini milks previously tho not for a few years because he was drawn more to the ice creams that link to the choc or biscuits that he likes e.g. Oreos or Buttons.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Both children enjoyed them - DS said he'd forgotten how nice they were. He liked the white vanilla one the best whereas my daughter liked the strawberry one. The size for a 2 year old was good as she could eat it all - and it was quite a good snack for DS as he could have it when he came home from school and it didn't spoil his tea!
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yeah - I would recommend them. I think they're good value for money and the size is good for a snack rather than a proper 'treat' - and yet to the children they are a treat which is good! I like the idea that they're milk based too - DS never drinks enough milk really!

What was your overall impression of mini milk?
nice packaging, good size lolly (hasn't shrunk over the years like many products).

Which of your children tried mm?
My 3 kids tried them (9, 7, 4) all had had before but still keen to try again.

Did they enjoy?
they did enjoy each chose a different flavour and made satisfyingly happy sounds!! No outright favourite flavour.

Would I recommend?
yes I probably would recommend them as a treat or snack. Good value, not too big too ruin meals.

RandallFloyd · 07/06/2015 11:42

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Just as nice as I remembered them.

2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DS, 3yo, never tried one before.

3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Yes, he loved them. He said they were 'delicious' and his favourite was the 'minila' one.

4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, great for a little snack, especially on a warm day. Not too big or sugary but still tasty and feel like a treat.

BaronVonShush · 07/06/2015 13:02

Thanks for the mini milks, they were eaten on the one very hot day last week.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
The packaging changed since I last bought them I think. I don't remember the Lion. Still the same size though, which is the main thing!
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
All 3 of my children plus a friend who was round for tea tried them. My children are 7, 5 and 18 months. Friend is 5. My 5 and 7 year old have tried them before a long time ago. It was my 18 month old's first ice cream on a stick.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Yes, they definitely enjoyed them as they asked for another one as soon as they had finished the first one. They chose chocolate first, then vanilla, then strawberry. I am guessing that they like them as they have familiar flavours i.e. milkshake flavours. DS2 18 months woofed his down.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend them. They are a very good size for children when you don't want to go overboard with a treat. They were easy to eat for the 18 month old and they weren't florescent! I loved them as a child and they are great for a nostalgia hit. Although, I am sure the vanilla ones tasted of milk or were actually milk flavoured before. I will probably buy them again over summer.
Pumble · 07/06/2015 21:40

Thanks so much for the voucher-perfect timing with the hot weather Smile

(1) Good. I love that they are small enough for the children but they still see it as a big treat.

(2) 2 DDs aged 4 and 2. They have had them before on days out at National Trust properties but rarely.

(3) DD1 enjoyed them but when offered a choice between them or a fruit juice equivalent chose the fruit juice one. Her favourite flavour was vanilla. DD2 loves them but is going to be very disappointed when the vanilla ones run out as definitely her favourite.

(4) I would recommend as they are the perfect size for little people and good value for money.

I would prefer it if you could buy a box of just vanilla ones but in the meantime I will have to eat the chocolate and strawberry ones, oh well!

HeyMicky · 08/06/2015 08:55
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Positive. A good size, not too sweet
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DD1, 2.8. She'd not tried mini milks previously but a big fan of ice cream
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Mini milks were requested (not provided) after every evening meal after the first time. Chocolate was definitely the preferred flavour
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. They're reasonably priced, and a suitable treat size for young children
SillyBub · 08/06/2015 10:29

What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
They were a nice treat for the children. Being smaller in size than the usual ice creams they have, I didn't feel as bad about how much sugar they were eating.

Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Both my DC tried them. One is 7 and the other 5. The 5 year old has had Mini Milks before.

Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
The 5 year old enjoyed all of them. She likes milky/creamy drinks and puddings and has a sweet tooth so they are perfect for her. Her favourite flavour when pushed to provide ONE flavour only as she wanted to say "all of them" is the strawberry one. The 7 year old tried all 3 flavours, didn't like the strawberry as it was too sweet and pink, the vanilla one was "ok" and he liked the chocolate one best as he likes chocolate. He wouldn't choose a Mini Milk again though.

Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I probably wouldn't as I'm not really in the habit of recommending ice creams to people Grin, however, if someone was to ask me what ice cream to buy for my 5 year old, I'd definitely recommend Mini Milks to them.

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/06/2015 12:54

We love Minimilks at our house, they're small enough to not melt before DS3 can eat it all (we've had many time when he's been devastated at his ice lolly falling off the stick before he can eat it!) but big enough that the kids feel like they've had a lovely, cool snack in the garden after school.

Luckily I have 3 older children (10, 8 and 2) and they like Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla best respectively which works out well (I'll eat any flavour but like Strawberry best!)

It's quite nice to give them something that is creamy without having to give them a big cone full of actual cream that's full of fat and sugar.

I like that they come in bigger packs, most ice creams or ice lollies come in 3's or 4's p, the 12 pack of minimilks mean that when the kids have invited the whole neighbourhood of children into the garden I can give everyone one fairly cheaply.

They're something from my childhood that I'm glad are still around and don't seem to have changed like everything else! Smile

Titsalinabumsquash · 08/06/2015 12:56

Forgot to add, I would recommend them to people and would suggest them to friends wanting to buy ice lollies for their families.

Whyisitsodifficult · 08/06/2015 14:18

What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? They seem like good value for money and a little bit healthier than some other icecreams. I preferred the older style packaging but that's probably just my nostalgia!

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? My 8,6 and 2 year old tried them, first time for 2 year old.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? Yes they all enjoyed them, all three went for different ones! My youngest opted for strawberry as it was pink!
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Of course they're a British tradition almost!
NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 08/06/2015 14:26
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
A burst of nostalgia - they taste very similar to when I was a child and the size doesn't seem too different.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
I have one dd who is 2.5 years. She has had them before, they are a nice size for a little one.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? Dd did enjoy the mini milks very much, she believes that a trip to the beach is incomplete without an ice cream. As we live by the sea it's nice to be able to treat her without it costing a fortune. She says she likes chocolate best, but seems to choose strawberry just as often. She likes vanilla, but only really has it if there isn't another flavour.
  2. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend mini milks because they are a small and inexpensive treat and possible for a toddler to eat without spreading it all over everything else!
Dreamingspires · 08/06/2015 16:04
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

I was happy they were exactly the same as I remembered from my childhood!

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

DS1 (8) and DS 2 (4). I thought the 4 year old would particularly like them as they're smaller than most ice-creams but it was actually my 8 year old who liked them the most. Neither had tried them before.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

I'm afraid DS2 didn't really like them at all. He thought they were too small and didn't taste of "proper ice-cream". DS1 loved them though, especially the strawberry ones.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not

I personally love mini milks exactly because of their size. Just big enough to feel like you're having a treat. I would definitely recommend them.

KraggleLego · 08/06/2015 16:19
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Bright engaging packaging which my DD loved, a nice array of flavours and a good size.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
My eldest two children have had mini milks before and have always enjoyed them, My younger DD's have not and absolutely loved them. I needed a jet washer to clean DD3 after she has eaten hers though Grin
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
DD2 who is 3 just wolfed hers down and asked for another, her favourite was the strawberry, DD3 who is 1 was basically covered head to foot and had more in her hair than in her mouth. She seemed to like it. My eldest two ate there's very fast and said they were lovely.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would, they are perfect as a treat on a hot day all my children loved them.
StainlessSteelCat · 08/06/2015 16:46
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Like them - not too big, kids think of them as ice cream. Wish packaging was more distinct from Twisters though - walked past them twice when looking for them!
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
All three, ages 3, 6 and 9. Youngest definitely has had them before, older 2 recognise them but think this was first time (at least in their memory) that they've had them.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
All three enjoyed them. They think they are ice cream, and so an improvement on ice lollies that they more often have. All three liked all three flavours.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. Not a huge size, the kids liked them and they don't melt before youngest has finished.
verysadtimes · 08/06/2015 19:14
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Nice size, shame so little of the stick is poking out though as its hard for toddler to grip and top heavy.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? 2 year old, hasn't had before
  2. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? He liked them, liked the treat and enjoyed licking them. He wasn't bothered about which flavour he had. They were too big for him, he ate less than half but he's got a small appetite and isn't massively in to ice cream so probably not representative.
  3. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, sure - a nice size for most kids, simple and not too junky - would recommend.

My 4 and 2 year olds really enjoyed them. They're just the right size for small children. My eldest had tried them before, and my youngest would like me to buy some more! The pink ones were the favourite in this house. I'd definitely recommend them.

YerTiz · 08/06/2015 19:38

Thanks for our voucher!

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Yummy! Took me back to my childhood and DC love them too.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

DS1 is 4, DS2 is 1. We've had imitation mini milks (aldi own brand) but not Walls.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They both really like them. DS1 prefers strawberry, I share a vanilla one with DS2 and DH eats the chocolate ones Grin

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

They're tasty and a good size for children so yes. That said, I still think the cheaper own brand versions are good, so I wouldn't always opt for Walls.

Sylviasmothersays · 08/06/2015 20:41
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Great for little children and appropriate size.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

4 year old and 2 year old. Yes they had.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They really enjoyed them. They generally picked a different flavour each time, although went for strawberry first.

Personally, I quite like them too!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes - I think they are a really good size for toddlers. It means that they can be eaten before they melt everywhere.

Sadly I think my four year old now thinks they are less exciting than other ice-creams on offer when we are at the beach etc but at home the multipacks are ideal.

I sometimes buy one if i'm getting the kids an ice-cream - they are a little ice-cream treat without being a gazillion calories.

Petal7 · 08/06/2015 21:11

Thank you for the chance to taste Mini milks again,

  1. Overall impression was very good. Liked the number in the pack, the mix of flavours to keep everyone happy and the sensible size.

  2. All my children tried them (age 6,5 and 2). None of them had tried them before.

  3. Oh yes! They adored them! They enjoyed all the flavours, but strawberry and vanilla were more popular than chocolate. They liked the fact that they had a choice of flavour and the "yummy" taste.

  4. Yes, I would recommend them to friends and family. They were the perfect size for a treat in the garden after school without spoiling their appetitie for tea. They were great as they got eaten too quickly to melt and make their hands sticky! And they were indeed "yummy" - just tasted for research purposes, clearly!!

Alice2014 · 08/06/2015 22:13
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Great! From the packaging of the box to the ease of unwrapping and even feeding a 15m old with ease. It's handy to have in the freezer for guests, and to give as a snack on a hot day.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

My 15m old and his cousins (2, 3, 5). It was our first time but his cousins ask nana for "the milky ice lolly".

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

It was his first taste of an icecream, but once over the initial shock of cold he loved every bite and wouldn't share! All the flavours have gone down well, which makes a nice change not having one flavour left for months.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. They're so quick and easy, handy to keep at home and no washing up! Sticky hands weren't too sticky, so it really felt like a good option.

Nottheshrinkingcapgrandpa · 08/06/2015 22:18
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I really likes them as a small treat.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

Eldest tried on- 7- and had had them before.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They liked all the flavours, and liked eating icecream.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would do - they are small which means the little ones can have some icecream as a treat, without having too much (I am a big advocate of portion control!).
