This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who are testing out Mini Milk.

Here’s what Wall’s say: “Small, but perfectly formed, our Mini Milk range is a firm favourite within the Wall’s range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours, Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate, Mini Milk is a yummy treat you can feel confident giving to your kids this summer.”

Here are some questions to get you started, but please feel free to add your own comments too:

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
  2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
  3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
  4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback, as well as completing the short feedback survey we will be emailing to you, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Wall’s on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I've always loved Mini milks, but hadn't tried them in ages, so was really pleased to be selected. I found it a little hard to find them at first, visiting several shops, before finally tracking them down in a larger supermarket.

  1. Really nice. They're still tasty, but still do that annoying thing where the top half breaks off in your mouth while you're enjoying them. Lovely and creamy.
  1. My four-year old tried them. We also have a one year old, but I can't remember if we offered him a taste.
  1. She loved them. Particularly the chocolate flavour.
  1. Yes, I would recommend.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

They looked appetising and appealing

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Both DD's tried the mini milks, they are 9 and 5. They had tried mini milks before and they love them.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Yes they both loved the mini milks, eldests favourite flavour was chocolate and youngest was strawberry

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, definitely.

It was great to be a MN tester, and we couldn't wait to get our Mini Milks!Smile

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? Good value at 12 for £2. A good size for a treat and it felt like a healthier option than some other kids' ice-creams.
2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? DD1 is nearly 5 and DD2 is nearly 3. Both tried them and hadn't had them before.
3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? DD1 loved Choc and Strawberry best. DD2 preferred Vanilla. They both found them easy to hold and said they enjoyed the taste.
4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? I would recommend to friends/family with younger kids, as I think they have more appeal for younger children because of the size of the ice-creams and also the limited flavour selection.

pukkapine · 31/05/2015 20:46

Fab to be a tester - the kids were almost excited as me, and DS in particular took his job very seriously!

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? Really good value. I thought they were bigger than I remembered which is odd. I like packs of 12 as I have 3 kids so that works well.
  2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? I have DS 8 and twin DD's who are 5 - all tried them... it was a bit of a tussle to get the box open. Interestingly each chose a different starting flavour and all three then said that original one was their favourite.
  3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? I liked them as for ice creams they weren't too messy. The kids loved them which surprised me a bit as when DS last had one, maybe 5 years ago, he didn't like them. So that's a new option open... They all liked a different flavour. I liked strawberry best.
  4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? I would recommend due to the price, pack size and the ice creams aren't too huge. That said I think they still suit younger children more.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

I have to say I was really impressed! Considering the pack size, I thought they were really affordable. A great size for little ones and easy for them to hold. I love the fact that it was an assorted pack of 3 different (and all equally appealing flavours!) and that the packets were see-through so that I could easily find the desired flavour.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

My eldest (age 6) had tried them before but couldn't remember them. Both of my children - age 6 and 4 - really enjoyed trying Mini Milk. Chocolate and Strawberry flavours were the favourites, although they didn't dislike the Vanilla ones. They enjoyed eating them and likened them to frozen milkshakes.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Yes, as above, they loved them! My Daughter prefers the chocolate ones, whilst my Son likes the strawberry ones best. They liked the flavours and felt that they were a good portion size. They found them easy to eat and the size meant that they didn't drip meaning a nice non-messy dessert!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, absolutely! They will certainly be on our list going forward and make a great alternative to fromage frais for a calcium rich dessert.

Chocolateisnottheonlyfruit · 31/05/2015 22:09

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to review Mini Milks.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? They are very nostalgic for me as they were the only lolly my Mum would let us have as she saw them as the healthy option compared with ice lollies and ice cream. I have to admit I still think this for my children. I love that they are a small, but tasty lolly so the kids feel they are getting a treat. For my part I can let them have a Mini Milk without feeling guilty about sugar or additives.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? My 4 year old loves ice lollies and was insistent I let him have one in the car on the way home from the shop. I don't usually give in, but I did just this once and the car was filled with the lovely scent of the strawberry flavour. He has eaten them before, but didn't remember as he was younger. The baby (18 months) tasted the vanilla one and really enjoyed it - he's teething so it also relieved his pain.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? My son loves Mini Milks and would eat them every day if I let him. In the Summer I probably will. They are small enough to eat without melting everywhere and they are simple to hold for small hands. My family loved all the flavours, but strawberry was a firm favourite in our house.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? I already do recommend them to friends and family as a staple item to have in the freezer. It's so easy to keep some in the bottom drawer and on a hot sunny day it's great to have a treat in the house that the children will enjoy and that I feel happy to give them to eat.

This has been a real nostalgia trip for me and took me back to when my parents used to own a shop and they sold Mini Milks in the Wall's freezer. They were the most popular ice lolly with kids as you could buy them with your pocket money.

Thanks again for inviting us to take part :)

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Great! Much nicer than I remember them being when I last tried them some year ago.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DD aged 4. She hadn't tried them previously.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
She loved them, especially the strawberry ones.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Absolutely I would. Very well priced and a nice size.
nerysw · 01/06/2015 10:48

We're working our way down the pack and here's our feedback...

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Great - they're a really good size treat for the kids and they like that there's 3 flavours to choose from. The box is attractive too.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
My 4 and 6 year old both tried them and loved them. They've tried them before but quite a while back so not sure they'd remembered them.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Yes, they were a huge hit. They liked the flavours (esp chocolate).
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I love Mini Milks as they remind me of eating them as a treat walking home from primary school with my Mum. They're not too big and I like the fact that they're made from milk. The kids really enjoyed them and I've hidden a couple of strawberry ones at the bottom of a freezer drawer just for me!
SnapCackleFlop · 01/06/2015 11:05
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

I have good memories of them. They're nicely presented and colours seem nice and natural. Nice size - not too big. Good flavours.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

9 year old and 4 year old. Had had them before but they enjoyed having them again and liked that they were testers!

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Yes, they're all good but son preferred strawberry one and DD preferred vanilla. If only one flavour left I don't think people would mind - they're all good :)

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, on one hand I wish we could avoid sugary things altogether but I realise in the real world I don't think we will. These are smaller and seem less harmful than lots of the junk out there. At least they have a good calcium content and colours natural etc.

Moogdroog · 01/06/2015 11:11
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Good - packaging was bright and interesting and the size of the pack was good too, they should last a while.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old areyour DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Both mine have tried them (DD 4 and DS 6) - the chocolate ones went first! They have tried them before, but not in their memory. We usually buy Aldi's own version.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Chocolate was their favourite. They liked them more than the usual ones we buy (Aldi) but not sure how much was the packaging rather than taste. They were just the right size so didn't get passed to me in a melty mess like some ice creams.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I'd recommend them. Good size for little ones and I liked the colours (not artificially bright). One thing though, we are a vegetarian family (well, I'm stricter than my kids) and I can't see anything on the packet to say they are vegetarian... Walls aren't great for this, so I suspect they aren't. Aldi's version are, however, and I'll always opt for the clear veggie option where available.

Thanks for letting us try them though!

Mrsboathook · 01/06/2015 11:40
  1. Overall impression- well presented and appealing, good size, like the range of flavours.
  1. My oldest child (dd 2.9) tried and loved them. She didn't get the chocolate flavour though- they were all eaten by mummy! First time she's had them and has asked for them again. Younger child is only 4 months so he has to wait!
  1. She tried vanilla and strawberry- liked the vanilla best. Enjoyed them immensely. Flavours good, toddler friendly size.
  1. I would recommend them as not too big, not too much sugar, child loved them!
WellTidy · 01/06/2015 11:50
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Easy to recognise in the freezer at the supermarket, good value for money, nice to have a range fo falvours in oe box.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

Both children had tried them before. They are 7yo and 3yo boys.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They like all the flavours . As I have two children, it was great to have the same number as each of the flavours, as I only let them have the same flavours (so as to stop squabbling about whose might be the nicest). They chose the chocolate and strawberry flavours first, but liked them all.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, definitely. They are good value for money, a nice range of falvours, not too big to stire in a smallish freezer. I also like the idea of them having an ice lolly that isn't purely sugar and juice based. They also evoke lovely memories for me and my husband as we are children of the seventies/eighties that grew up with mini milk (vanilla flavour) during the summer. They're a good size lolly too, not too big. They're not too heavy eitehr for my 3yo to hold. And they don't drip as much as fruit lollies.

Hols10 · 01/06/2015 12:20
  1. Great overall impression of Mini Milks.... Perfect size for children as some other lollies are too big for my children and end up melting before they finish or wasted. We all love the variety of flavours and great taste. Nice bright packaging and great value for money with 12 in a box.
  1. My 2 children are 4 and 7 and both tried and loved them. They have both had Mini Milks before.
  1. They both enjoyed all 3 flavours but my 4 year old prefers strawberry and 7 year old prefers chocolate. They described them as 'yummy', 'creamy' and 'delicious'.
  1. Would definitely recommend as they're a yummy treat for children (and adults!) that I know they'll enjoy and great value for money....small boxes don't last very long in our household!
Fillybuster · 01/06/2015 12:26

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Great! I know that packaging shouldn't make a difference, but it looked a lot more 'fun' than I remembered which definitely attracted the children's attention! I was also impressed that you get 12 in a pack: even if we hadn't had a voucher, they were on offer for £2 a box, which seems very reasonable for that many.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

All 3 dcs tried the Mini Milks: they are DS 10, DD 7, DD2 5 - and they were helped by a variety of friends aged 10, 7 and 4, and our au pair (20) as well as by their DM and DF...the box of 12 didn't last long Blush Grin

I used to buy Mini Milks years ago but have tended to buy either ice lollies or ice cream bars more over recent summers. Not sure why - I think at the time it felt like Mini Milks were a bit 'babyish' but that clearly not the case.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

They all loved them - they disappeared in about 2 days! DD2 (5) said she liked that it was proper ice cream but didn't drip all over her hands. DS (10) thought the shape was really easy to eat although he would have liked them to be bigger (but that's true of all food with him at the moment....). DD1 liked that there was a choice of flavour. All 3 DCs looked at the box and noticed that Mini Milks were a healthier option than normal shop bought ice lollies (we often make our own with fruit juice or ribena for the same reason, so it's something they think about).

Flavour-wise: there weren't enough for everyone to try each flavour. Interestingly my very chocaholic dcs were just as impressed by strawberry and vanilla as they were by the chocolate optio.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely: we will be buying these again all summer long. They are healthier than the bought alternative, a really nice 'special' treat, reasonably priced, tasty and went down well with everyone. I normally have to buy at least 2 varieties of ice lolly to make sure that everyone (including the grown ups) is happy...so it's great to realise we all agree on these!

Thank you :)

Hopezibah · 01/06/2015 13:56

it was definitely a case of how we'd forgotten just how good these taste! We've been enjoying them over the weekend. So impressed with them.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Great to come in a big pack of 12 so don't run out straight away. with 5 people in the family those 4 packs of ice lollies just don't do the job so it is great that we all had one and some left over for next time too.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

All of us - 10 yr old son, 9 yr old son and 3 yr old daughter.

And me and daddy too (age 37 and a half!)

my boys had both had them before but not sure if my 3 yr old has. She loved it though and it feels much healthier than other ice creams and ice lollies so i will be giving it as a dessert option for her much more often from now on.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
10 yr old and 9 yr old sons liked vanilla best, 3 yr old daughter loved strawberry best and daddy likes chocolate best (i like them all!)

thats the other great thing about the flavour options - there is something for everyone!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes definitely. Really pleased with the low calorie count too so will be eating these myself as a sweet treat from now on.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
my overall impression is very positve as the be box is colourful.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? both of my children have tried Mini Milk lollies lots of times.
  2. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
My daughter really loves them and her favourite flavour has to be chocolate.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? yes I would recommend these lollies to my friends and famiy as they are just the right size for little hands and mouths. There are not alot of lollies on the market that are mainly aimed at little one's and these are perfect. I have had them myself quite a few times as they are just enough to quench my first especially on a hot day.
pgwynne · 01/06/2015 14:30

Here is a pic of my little girl with a chocolate Mini Milk. She couldn't wait to get hold of one not long after getting the Scrummy pack.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

I did think of "MMs" as a somewhat dated & old fashioned treat. However when I picked them up in the Cooperative I has surprised at how modern & bright the packaging is.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

My children are older (11&13), despite being big ice-cream and ice lolly eaters they have not tried "MMs" before. I have eaten "MMS" before as they used to one of my favourite treats from the ice-cream van .

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Both my children enjoyed them, I think they enjoyed them a lot more than they where expecting to. Both enjoyed the chocolate and I really liked the strawberry flavour. I think both children where a little put of by the size of the "MMs", but both did agree that they where big enough for an afternoon snack on a hot day.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend "MMs" as I was impressed with the lower levels of sugar in the product compared to other similar snacks. I though the taste and texture was excellent and the children agreed that they tasted great. The only negative I can think of is that no one want the vanilla flavour. If I bought these regularly I think the vanilla would often get left behind for Mum and Dad to finish.

asuwere · 01/06/2015 17:09

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Quite bright packaging, the lollies were a good size and it's a good size box (12)

2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
all my DC tried them, ages 9, 6, 5, 2 and 9 months. None of them have had mini milks before.

3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
They all enjoyed them. DS1 enjoyed vanilla the best, DS2 loved the chocolate, DD1 and DD2 both loved the strawberry. (DS3 just liked whatever bits he was given!)

4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I think I would recommend them, they are a nice size treat, good price, nice choice of flavours and the kids loved them. They also didn't melt too quickly for little ones so didn't get as messy as some ice lollies can.

margaritasbythesea · 01/06/2015 18:34
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?Nice colourful box. Popular. Tasty. I often have one too.
Good to have in when their friends are round as there are lots in a box and provide a choice.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? Age 4 and 7. Yes, and supermarket versions ofthem. They claimed to like these better than the Lidl ones.
  2. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? The kids love mini milks. Chocolate was definitely the favourite, then strawberry. The vanilla are often left for weeks. They like that I will often eat those.
  3. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?I would although I don't like having to force them to eat the vanilla.
Dolallytats · 01/06/2015 19:00
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Bright packaging and the lollies are just the right size for little ones.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DS 7 and DD 22months tried them. DS has had them before but DD has not.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
They did like them. DS likes the strawberry and DD likes the vanilla. DS likes the creaminess and DD just likes icecream!!
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would. They are a great lolly for small and big children.....and mummy who really likes the vanilla ones and has been known to tell the children there are none left!! Blush
Yorkstone · 01/06/2015 19:18

What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Appropriate child size. Value for money. Traditional ice lolly treat.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

We get Mini Milk when they are on offer. All my children tried them and like them. They are 10, 6 and 4. All boys!!

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

My children and the adults like mini milks. The creamy, milky softness that is different from 'ice' lollies. All three flavours are distinctly different. The boys like them all but they are normally consumed in the order of chocolate, vanilla then strawberry.

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. Although still regard them as a treat and not a product consumed for the milk/calcium content.

cornflakegirl · 01/06/2015 20:43

Thank you for the voucher. I didn't really have mini milks as a kid so haven't bought them for the DC, although they have had them occasionally elsewhere. We don't eat a lot of puddings, but usually have some lollies in the freezer for weekends. Mini milks have a similar calorie count to our usual lollies and about half the sugar. The DCs (5 and 9) liked the flavours - I wasn't particularly fond of them and thought the chocolate flavour was quite cocoa-y - but I don't really eat lollies so that's not a problem. Both boys preferred the strawberry ones. DH favours the plain ones. DS1 also cottoned on to the fact that they are made with milk, and negotiated a second one on the basis of the nutritional benefits... They're a bit more expensive than the own brand lollies we usually get, but not unreasonable so I would buy them if the kids asked for them.

CycleChic · 01/06/2015 20:56

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I liked the size but thought the vanilla one tasted chalky.

*2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?*
DD (age 6) tried chocolate and strawberry. She said "Actually both of them taste like the same thing" but enjoyed it anyway :) she's had these from her cm before.

4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Probably not tbh. it depends whether I like the other flavours better. I'm not a huge fan of iced lollys though.

Summergarden · 01/06/2015 23:11
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I liked the size of them- not too large, and the variety of flavours.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
My daughter aged 4 had tried them last summer but had forgotten about them.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
My daughter only wanted to try the vanilla and strawberry flavours-she decided she didn't like the look of the chocolate, for some reason. She said she liked that they didn't seem to melt as quickly as other (larger) ice creams.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, because they are a relatively healthy ice cream and the perfect size for young children.
