AngelieMumsnet · 18/05/2015 15:09

This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who are testing out Mini Milk.

Here’s what Wall’s say: “Small, but perfectly formed, our Mini Milk range is a firm favourite within the Wall’s range of ice creams. With a choice of three delicious flavours, Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate, Mini Milk is a yummy treat you can feel confident giving to your kids this summer.”

Here are some questions to get you started, but please feel free to add your own comments too:

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
  2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
  3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
  4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Everyone who adds their feedback, as well as completing the short feedback survey we will be emailing to you, will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Wall’s on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini milks.
Really enjoyed them, especially the size. They were nice and creamy
  1. Which of your children tried Mini milks
Both kids tried them. 5 years and 18 months. Neither of them have tried them before.
  1. Did your children enjoy them?
They loved them. Especially the 'pink' one (flavour was unimportant after the colour) They rarely get icecream as normal ones are way too big so it was a major treat
  1. Would you recommend Mini milks?
Yep no question. In fact they are what I will be buying for summer parties now
LovelyWeatherForDucks · 08/06/2015 22:27
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? Good - they look just the same as when I was a child!
  2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? My son aged 2.5 tried them - he's not had them before, but loves ice lollies.
  3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
He did enjoy it but found it a bit tricky to eat - small stick to hold and seemed to melt quite quickly so he needed some assistance! Good size for him though. He went straight for the 'choc choc' one and would only try the others when I had one myself.
  1. Would you recommend: Generally yes

Not sure I would buy regularly unless on special offer, the supermarket own brand ones are sufficient for a toddler who doesn't often finish it or ends up dropping it! I also prefer to give him 'plainer' ice/fruit lollies (often home made) as I am a bit wary of the ingredients/sugar content.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Nice size, texture and kids were keen to try straight away. Bright , appealing packaging.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Two boys aged 5&8. Have tried before but often choose something more 'exciting looking' since being a bit older.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Both loved them and enjoyed eating the whole pack between them over the week. Best flavour was chocolate without a doubt. They liked 'the yummminess ' archie aged five. Jack aged 8" I like how it's smooth, but tasty and it's quite a good size!'
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Absolute. Nothing to dislike about them. Good product, price and ingredients.

I've left it a few days to leave my feedback as it's only today that my DD was willing to try one of the other flavours - she loves "vamminna"! So bizarre, she's normally a chocolate fiend if there's a choice.
I actually struggled to find the Mini Milks when first looking as I was expecting the old style packaging. The new packaging blended in with the other things on the shelf so I had to look twice to find them.
First time she tried them, I offered DD the choice of flavours. She chose vanilla (vamminna, she's 2.5) although she really enjoyed the flavour, she did struggle with holding on to it. The proportion of stick wasn't quite wide enough for her to hold comfortably. Today she had no problem so might just have been getting used to it.
We've tried all the flavours now, even having a Mini Milk tea party in our garden today with 2 toddlers and 2 mums. It was great to share a guilt free treat with our kids, normally we're sat nursing a cup of tea while they eat something yummy. At 35 calories we were really pleased to be able to have a little sweet snack. The chocolate one tasted of milkshake, the strawberry one of angel delight so definitely a winner from me. The vanilla one is probably my least favourite but DD will probably eat all of those first anyway.
I'd definitely recommend them as a small, inexpensive snack that won't ruin appetites, especially as my DD's face lights up when I offer her one as though she believes it to be a really naughty treat!

Jakadaal · 08/06/2015 22:35

Dc enjoyed them as an after school treat or pudding. I enjoyed them as a late night snack - very slimming world friendlyWink
Dc 11 and 12 would usually go for more luxury brands (magnums etc) but accepted these without question and I was asked to put them on the shopping list again
Overall good value for money, disappeared out of the freezer fast and will be a regular on the shopping list

Jakadaal · 08/06/2015 22:36

Ps chocolate was favourite flavour with dc but mine was strawberry

DoTheStrand · 08/06/2015 22:38

  1. overall impression - I was impressed, they taste much nicer than you expect! Very ice cream-y but they don't taste cheap.

  2. I have a 5 year old, and a 3 year old, and all three of us tried them. We had tried them before but usually I buy own brand lollies or ice creams.

  3. we all loved them. The 5 year old preferred the strawberry one, the 3 year old loved the vanilla one and I preferred the chocolate one. So it all worked out perfectly Smile.

  4. yes I would recommend, they are the perfect size for children and make a great pudding or snack. I find them excellent for me too if I want a low cal sweet treat.

The only problem was that our local supermarket - a reasonably priced Waitrose - seems to have stopped stocking them.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Very nice, good size
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
DD aged 6. She tried around a year or so ago but doesn't remember.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
She loved the Mini Milk, especially the vanilla one and then strawberry. She said it was very creamy and yummy.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I would. They taste good, nice size, good value for money
queenbrunhilda · 08/06/2015 23:57
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

Good option for small children. Less noxious colours/sugary bits than other kids lollies.

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

All of them. Teen and primary.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

Chocolate is favourite with both of them. They liked the fact I would actually buy them these. Other larger/more sugary options were off limits when they were small. Teen will eat them in private only these days!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes - they are a reasonable option.
AllThePrettySeahorses · 09/06/2015 06:03
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Nice, brightly coloured, child-enticing box. Perfect size for a child's treat on a warm day.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Only one DD aged just turned 3 and she's never had them before.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
She loved them! She loved the treat aspect of it, she enjoyed playing in the garden while eating one and the taste went down well. Her favourite flavour is strawberry but she does like all 3.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. Ideal treat for little ones and reasonably healthy too.
Mummageddon · 09/06/2015 06:14

My overall impression is good, we like the mix of flavours.
My 2 year old tried them and really liked them. He hasn't had one before.

Although the whole thing was a bit too much for him I still think they are a good size, its just that my boy doesn't eat a lot. He didn't really have a favourite flavour, he liked them all!

I would recommend them to friends as they're a great treat to have in the freezer in the summer.

countingdown · 09/06/2015 09:45

Thanks very much for my voucher for mini milks.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks? They looked quite small, but were in actual fact just the right size for an after dinner treat.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before? My 5 year old tried it and enjoyed his chocolate Mini Milk. He had tried them previously, but does not remember having them before!
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour? He loved the chocolate one.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? I would definitely recommend them to friends with younger children, but not so much to parents with older children - my 6 year old was looking for something a bit bigger for his treat after dinner, hence only my 5 year old trying one!
Athousandtrees · 09/06/2015 11:06

Thank you for choosing us as one of the testers! Love a lolly!

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?

They were nicely packaged and my son loved the look of them as soon as he spotted them in the freezer!

  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?

My 20mth old ds and my 40 year old dh (does he count?). My ds is a lolly monster and loves all kinds of ice cream etc, though he hadn't tried these before.

  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?

He loved them, as amazingly the sun has ACTUALLY came out, they were a nice treat for him while he was playing in the garden. He seemed to prefer the Strawberry one, though he'd have eaten them all in one go if given the chance!!

  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would, they were a nice treat for ds, he loved them and they weren't full of crazy e numbers like some of their competitors.

Thanks again!

SuzCG · 09/06/2015 12:08

Thanks for being included in this product test.

Findings as follows... I thought the packaging was bright and eye-catching. Both my children tried them, aged 9 & 6. We have had them before, but haven't had them for a while - forgot how much they really do like them, so I will probably be buying them more often now. Strawberry was their favourite flavour, closely followed by the vanilla - not so keen on the chocolate I have to say. Might be nice if you could buy individual flavour packs as this would be the only thing that would put me off buying the current 12 pack - as they wouldn't really want the chocolate ones. What I really did like were the statistics - sugar, calories etc. That really came as a surprise to me and now knowing they are so low would definitely be tempted to give them more often as a snack, rather than the treat I have always given as in my past. Like the idea of new flavours too, as mentioned in the survey. Overall - yes, would recommend to friends, family etc.

  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I (and my daughter) liked them very much. Nice and creamy and due to their size, great for a little snack.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
My daughter, 18 months old. It was the first time.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Yes, the whole mini milk was gobbled up! The strawberry!
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, not for everyday but they are a nice little treat.

bicky · 09/06/2015 17:55
  1. Nice tasting kids lollies
My 3 and 6 year old really liked them Chocolate flavour seemed to disappear first Would definitely buy again, kids loved them
gemima27 · 09/06/2015 18:01
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
great size for a snack or after a meal
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
my eldest is 4 and has had them in the past but not for a while
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
she loved them. strawberry was her favourite, she loved them all though.
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
they are quite pricey but lo loved them so would definately recommend.
Coffeechick · 09/06/2015 20:12

1.My overall impression they seem to be smaller than I remember.

2.Both of my children tried the mini milks they are 6 and 2. The older one has tried them before.

  1. They both enjoyed them. The older one liked the strawberry flavour and the younger one liked chocolate. He manged to eat three in one sitting!

I found the stick a bit short for the younger one to hold adequately.

  1. The calorie count is quite good and it isn't too big to ruin their appetite, but not sure I would buy them again. I remember them tasting creamier and less cheap. I would recommend to family on account of their size and children seeing them as a treat but not ruining their appetite.
FiloPasty · 09/06/2015 20:29

1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
Wonderful, I felt very nostalgic eating mini milks with my children who loved them just as much as I did when I was a child.

2. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
I have twin girls aged 4, they had not tried them before but loved them, they are both a bit obsessed with both milk and ice cream so the mini milks were devoured.

3. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
One loved the strawberry the best and the other the chocolate and they liked the vanilla too, all winners in this house.
They loved the fact that didn't quickly melt, they both hate getting sticky fingers so that was a bonus.

4. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
absolutely, great price, great flavour, great size.

kewtogetin · 09/06/2015 20:36
  1. My impression was the packaging was bright and appealing to children as it's obviously meant to be! But the stick wasn't long enough.
  1. Both my boys tried the mini milks, they are 7 and 2. They have both had them before.

3.they both enjoyed them, strawberry is the least favourite, not that it doesn't get eaten! But it's always the last to go. They enjoy them because they are sweet and creamy.

  1. I would recommend them, they are seen as a treat by the children but not big enough for me to worry about them being too full for dinner or contributing to childhood obesity!
thejoysofboys · 09/06/2015 22:11
  1. What was your overall impression of Mini Milks?
I thought they were great. I'd not had them since I was a child but I'd definitely buy them again. They're a good size as a treat for small children.
  1. Which of your children tried Mini Milk? How old are your DCs? Have they tried Mini Milks before?
Both my boys (aged 5 and 4) tried them. They'd not had them before.
  1. Did your child enjoy the Mini Milks? If so, what did your child like about them? And which was their favourite flavour?
Yes, the liked them (but the love anything ice-lolly'ish). DS1 preferred strawberry, DS2 liked the chocolate and vanilla. I think if you asked them, they'd prefer a lolly with sprinkles on or a shape (like the rocket ones) but I actually prefer the fact that they're not gimmicky - just taste nice"
  1. Would you recommend Mini Milks to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not.

Yes. Nice flavour, Fair price.

milliemoon · 10/06/2015 09:05

I'm really struggling to get hold of any packs, they seem sold out everywhere around here. Going to try another supermarket today and will do feedback asap

Shatteredmamma1 · 10/06/2015 09:21
  1. overall impression good. Appealing to children
  2. my 2 year old tried them. He's not a huge fan of really cold things but does like ice cream so did enjoy them. He likes anything chocolate so the combination of that and I've cream was a winner
  3. I would recommend them if it came up, I think they are good value and a much better portion size for children than lots of other treats. It would be an occasional treat though.
chairmeoh · 10/06/2015 18:44
  1. Very good. Look like a run treat, with heaps of nostalgia for me.
  2. 7yo DD. Never had them before.
She loved them. She loved the flavours, particularly chocolate which was "creamy and nice"
  1. Yes, I'd recommend. Great price and an ideal after school cool down.

Thank you.

exactchange · 10/06/2015 20:40

Lovely packaging, child friendly without being childish so I wouldn't feel daft buying them for myself! Nice size, a decent snack without being too filling. Good value for money. Took me back to my childhood when we ate them.
Eldest son (6) husband and I tried them. We had had them before but not for many years.
Favourite for son was strawberry, husband liked vanilla and I preferred the chocolate. Liked the fact they were a decent size but manageable for children without having to pay for fun size versions - which are always more expensive! Nice and creamy without being sickly.
Yes we would recommend these to anyone! Nothing to not like, also manageable on slimming world ;)
