This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Aldi’s Mamia nappies with their DCs.

Here’s what Aldi say, “Aldi’s Mamia nappies are fast becoming one of the UK’s favourite choice for babies from newborns to toddlers. The Ultra Dry Range scooped Gold at the Mother & Baby Awards for the second year running and has also been successful at the Lovedbyparents Awards, scooping Golds for the Size 3 Mamia Ultra Dry Midi Nappies and Size 4+ Mamia Ultra Dry Maxi+ Nappies. They also recently picked up the Bounty Mums Love Gold Best Private Label Nappy award.

“Aldi’s Mamia range is committed to offering savvy mums the best quality nappies for their little ones.

“As the range has been so successful in awards, we thought we’d put them to the test with Mumsnetters as we really value your opinion. As ever, you are the experts and we’d love to hear your feedback.”

The RRP for Aldi Mamia nappies are:
Size 1: 2-5kg/4-11lbs £1.49 (24 pack)

Size 5+: 13-27kg/29.60lbs £3.99 (36 pack)

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

Really liked these, good fit, cute picture and no leaks. Only thing I disliked was slightly plastic feel compared to other nappies.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Good value and would definately use again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definately recommend these as they are a good value, reliable nappy.

SweetieXPie · 31/03/2015 18:39

We have been using the Aldi nappies for a few weeks now, size 4plus.

They felt great, the packaging was great.
They were really secure, I had no leaks.

I normally use Tesco own brand, (don't use pampers, every time my son has had one on he has leave through)
The price was fantastic value for money.
Would recommend them to other mums (in fact already have)

Unfortunately we don't have an Aldi near us, although rumour has it they are in the process of building one, if it does materialise, I will definitely be buying these nappies and the wipes as they are great!

Snafu33 · 31/03/2015 19:00

1)Overall these were very good & during an 'average' day stood up to our usual brand (Pampers). However they did not contain poo when it became explosive due to illness (perhaps our usual would not have done either) & leaked when she was not changed between consecutive feeds-so would not have lasted overnight. Great for the comparative price though. Also I do like the wetness indicator on Pampers.

2)For the price I would definitely use these again as a regular day time nappy. Should I win the shopping voucher these would certainly be part of shopping purchased with it!

3)I have already recommended these for the price but with the warning of potential leakage overnight.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They're very thin but no leaks surprisingly. They do leave damp skin though but DS pees like a cart horse.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Most supermarket nappies are 2 for £8 so to me it's easier to buy them than make the trip to Aldi

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would they're decent quality for the price which isn't a special offer.

Eatenbybabyagain · 31/03/2015 20:23

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They are very soft and thin (in a good way) but also very absorbent and fit well. No dislikes.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Very good price. We will definitely pick some up in the future.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend them as I don't think people expect them to be as good as they are.

cookiefiend · 31/03/2015 21:00

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

Nice and thin, nice colours, no weird smell and I had no leaks even when heavily wet. Very impressed.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes- great price.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. We mainly use reuseable nappies and I would recommend them first, but these are probably the best disposable I have tried.

lucidlady · 31/03/2015 21:06

Q1: Loved the fact there is no chemical smell with these - I've been using Pampers since Huggies' demise and the smell turns my stomach. I've only had one leak and that was my fault for not doing the nappy up tightly enough. DS also seems to like the softness and doesn't wail in the same way when he has a wet nappy so they are clearly absorbent and comfortable for him.

Q2: I can't believe the price. I wish I'd used these years ago!

Q3: Definitely would recommend these!

minimumeffort · 01/04/2015 03:48

Loved the fit and quality of the nappy. No problems with leakage etc.

Great price.

Would definitely recommend!

SewingAndCakes · 01/04/2015 09:12

Q1: I liked them. No leaks, thin, looked comfortable and they had nice pictures on them.

Q2: good value for money. I will be buying these nappies from now on.

Q3: I will be recommending them to people I know. They are great value for the quality.

gregorsmummy · 01/04/2015 10:27

Overall impression was cute to look at, son liked pointing out the animals, good fit without being bulky

I have already recommended them to friends on the back of this trial

Price is good value

gillyweed · 01/04/2015 10:53

filled in survey online.

great value, although very similar price to other own brands. nice and soft, big, fit my son really well - no leaks and seem to contain well. defo recommend.

Aldi - why are you not in Northern Ireland!?! you're in England and the Republic, but not here. Please sort it out, I miss the prosecco (and the nappies...).

lovelychops · 01/04/2015 12:07

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
I really liked the nappies. Thought they were good value and stood up very well against other supermarket brands and well known ranges.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
Excellent value for money - like all, things at Aldi.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend them. They are excellent value and lasted well without leaks. Didn't rip when sticking the sticky bits to the nappy with my DS wriggling around - like some other brands !

Q1. Liked - designs were fine, sizing seemed good for my skinny yet tall baby (50th centile for height and 9th for weight), didn't leak wee at all, only one very minor poo incident, good overnight.
Dislike - the chemical smell of these isn't that nice, needed a larger size vs. normal (size 2 Pampers/Sbury's fits DS but had previously tried Aldi 2s and went for 3s for this trial as they were TINY [see above - he is far from a porker]).

Q2. The pricing is good, very slightly lower than other supermarket brands (Sbury's are usually about 8p/nappy), I would probably buy if I were going to Aldi (one is opening soon near us so this is becoming more likely as a regular occurrence). We often use vouchers or promotions for cheap nappies, and have limited brand loyalty. I would use them again at this price.

Q3. Lots of mums here are using them, so I might seem rather behind the curve! I would recommend, has taken me a bit to trust for overnight use but they seem good, or as good as the competitor's products. I do dislike the old-school Pampers smell of them though, and would mention this, albeit in passing.

EsmereldaPB · 02/04/2015 11:30

Now that we have been using the nappies for longer I can say that if we had an Aldi locally I would switch to Aldi nappies. My husband also commented on how he thought they were good nappies and better than the ones we usually use.

MrsSpencerReid · 02/04/2015 13:12

Q1.
I liked that they had a pattern on and my little boy liked the animals, they aren't too bulky. Overall impression was good

Q2.
I would use them again, I aim to pay around 10p a nappy and these come to about that.

Q3.
I would recommend them, we used them day and night, no leaks, easily as good as higher priced nappies

RueDeWakening · 02/04/2015 14:22

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I liked them. DS2 wasn't sure about the picture on them to start with, they're a bit brighter than our normal pastel affairs! There was occasionally a smell which made me think he'd done a poo when actually the nappy was just wet, not sure how that happened (it wasn't wind!).

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Excellent value for money, I'd definitely use again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I'd recommend them; no reason not to.

HoldenCaulfield80 · 02/04/2015 15:46

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
They looked and felt great - I was really happy with them. We had a couple of blow outs in them (most notably one in Costa that required a full outfit change) but ths happened with other brands too. Clearly when she had a poo, it gets her full commitment!

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them
Great price, especially compared to my usual Pampers!

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would. They're great value for money, thin and keep any nappy rash at bay.

Bonnie152 · 02/04/2015 15:57

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I liked the design. They are a good fit and I had no leaks at all. Really absorbent!

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Really good value for money. Lots cheaper than some of the other brands.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes definitely! Really effective nappy and at such a reasonable price - I've already recommended them to a few mums at baby group.

Buglife · 02/04/2015 16:04

So we've finished our pack of nappies.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them

They seemed to be of equal quality to most nappies I've used (Asda and Pampers). They were generally good, a couple of times the tapes were loose, they could bunch up a bit at the crotch when full leaving a gap, this only happened with very full nappies though. I thought they were very good.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Extremely Good value and would definately use a larger size.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend as they are very good value and do a good job. No point paying for Pampers unless you have a lot if overnight leaks ( but even Pampers haven't held up to a giant nappy from DS!)

dmeriam · 02/04/2015 22:16

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I thought they were great, and lived the animals on them. They last all night without any leaks, even though my dd has quite thin legs! She didn't get nappy rash, and they were just as good as Tesco and Pampers.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes, they are very reasonably priced and I would definitely buy them again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I ready have, so yes!

Mama2bubs · 03/04/2015 21:11

I am using size 4 nappies with my 17 month old son.

Q1. My overall impression was good. The design was cute and they are slim. They fit well and there's been no leakages. My husband actually thought they were Pampers nappies.

Q2. The price is good value for money. They are similar in price to other supermarket own brands. I would happily use them again.

Q3. I would recommend these nappies. They're just as good as other supermarket own nappies, and the brand name nappies.

RumAppleGinger · 03/04/2015 21:16

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

Liked the design and feel of them. Found them to be ok during the day but didn't stand up to the overnight test and DS woke up three nights in a row soaked through (including grow bag) before I switched back to my usual brand for nights. Another incident when he was in his car seat and poo leaked out of the side but it was a massive stinking mess that I'm unsure if my usual brand would have contained it! There were another few leaks here and there too.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

I do think they are a good price but found I was having to change DS more often so not sure if they are actually better value for money as I was going through them much faster than my usual brand. Don't think I've been convinced to switch.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I don't think I would. They are much better than many other supermarket own brands that I have tried but I wasn't convinced and therefore wouldn't recommend them.

Sabra · 04/04/2015 14:31

I've now tried & tested these on my 3month old baby girl. They look like quality nappies-feel thick & sturdy. The price is really good - compared to the top brands which I was using before & I would definitely use them again. I've tried them overnight aswell & they performed really well over 12 hours. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

ilovelamp82 · 04/04/2015 15:10

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I love them. They are the only nappies I have used that have never leaked and are the best value for money.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Definitely good value for money. With the voucher that you can get at the end of each month in the paper, I bulk buy nappies and wipes (which I also feel are the best wipes, in the best packets and value for money) to save a little more money.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have already converted 6 people that I can think of to Aldi's Mamia nappies, and will continue to recommend them as I have nothing bad to say about them and believe every penny counts for parents with young kids. As a result of being recommended Aldi's nappies myself, I now get the rest of my shopping there too.
