This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Aldi’s Mamia nappies with their DCs.

Here’s what Aldi say, “Aldi’s Mamia nappies are fast becoming one of the UK’s favourite choice for babies from newborns to toddlers. The Ultra Dry Range scooped Gold at the Mother & Baby Awards for the second year running and has also been successful at the Lovedbyparents Awards, scooping Golds for the Size 3 Mamia Ultra Dry Midi Nappies and Size 4+ Mamia Ultra Dry Maxi+ Nappies. They also recently picked up the Bounty Mums Love Gold Best Private Label Nappy award.

“Aldi’s Mamia range is committed to offering savvy mums the best quality nappies for their little ones.

“As the range has been so successful in awards, we thought we’d put them to the test with Mumsnetters as we really value your opinion. As ever, you are the experts and we’d love to hear your feedback.”

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I really liked them. Good appearance nice and stretchy to allow movement and no leaks. Also don't sag when full like pampers do.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes good value and if I was in Aldi or passing Aldi would pick some up. There's not an Aldi that close to me which means I will only be able to purchase them every now and then.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not why?

Have recommended to my mum who looks after my children.

LittleMissRayofHope · 27/03/2015 06:36

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I liked them, nice design, thin and not too bulky. However, my 6month old DS burst each night for the last 3 nights. This has never happened with pampers.
So I like these - as a daytime nappy

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Excellent value, I will definitely be buying these again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend them to people close to me as I would explain my experience. But I wouldn't recommend in a group situation with people I don't know as I wouldn't feel comfortable having to lenghily explain myself to someone I don't know too well

Thewonderyears1 · 27/03/2015 08:39

Q1
Initially I was really impressed- they aren't too bulky, felt soft, packaging and appearance attractive. However my daughter developed mild nappy rash within an afternoon of wearing them (which disappeared when I reverted to our regular nappies). I tried them again to check it wasn't coincidence and this time they leaked! We haven't had a leaky nappy using our regular brand since my daughter was tiny (now 9 months).

Q2. The RRP is excellent but due to issues above wouldn't be worth it for us unfortunately.

Q3. On the basis of our experiences I wouldn't rush to recommend them but seeing the other feedback here and given they are such a good price, I would mention they could be worth a try for those whose babies don't have such sensitive derrières!!

PannaDoll · 27/03/2015 10:24

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I was quite impressed with the feel of the nappies and my 22 month old DD was seemingly impressed with the characters printed on them. They immediately seemed comprable with my usual supermarket brand purcahse.

No overnight leaks, good absorbency and no escaping poo.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

I do think they are good value for money and would buy them again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend them friends asking about own brand nappies or which brands I would choose (alongside my usual own brand nappy choice).

Thanks very much for giving us the opportunity to test them. I'm surprisingly impressed with the quality.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
Loved them. Fit is great and plenty of suction power!

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
This is as cheap as chips. And I am converted.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
Will definitely recommend. Great fit, great absorbency and very cheap. DD also practicing her lion roars

redbook · 27/03/2015 13:31

Q1 - I usually use pampers, size 5 on my son. My first impression of the Mamia nappies was that I prefer the feel of pampers. The Mamia nappies fitted well - I did have one leak, which I don't often have with pampers, but it could have been coincidence. The inside of the Mamia nappy tended to "clot' a bit when wet and sag.

Q2 – Mamia nappies are good value for money. I prefer pampers’ product, but the quality difference between pampers and Mamia is not enough to warrant the price difference.

Q3 – If somebody asked my opinion I would say that I thought Mamia nappies were good, however I wouldn’t offer an unsolicited opinion. My experience is different babies suit different brands.

EmmaOt · 27/03/2015 14:13

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

My first impression was how thin they were and that they couldn't possibly be absorbent enough yet I was completely wrong as they were great. They seemed slightly smaller than my usual pampers but that doesn't matter because I can just buy the next size up. I agree with other posters that they smell much more pleasant than some other nappies. I was really impressed.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes very good, I will be buying them from now on. I am converted.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I already have recommended them.

Thank you for letting us test these nappies, they are great!

DinoSnores · 27/03/2015 14:33

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They feel a little bit plastic but they are lovely and thin and don't have any smell. I really like them.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Definitely competitively priced but there is not an Aldi my side of town so I can't see me going across town just to buy nappies. If there was, then, yes, I would use them again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Would happily recommend them. They are cheap yet did the job.

Rightokthen · 27/03/2015 14:44
  1. Good for day, less good overnight compared with pampers. However they are just as good as the sainsburys ones I've used. They are better than the boots value ones. After a whole some of the dye can end up on my little ones legs, if they have been worn for a long time.
  2. Good value for money yes. Much cheaper than pampers per nappy.
  3. Yes I would recommend. They are good quality. And good value for money.
Oodear · 27/03/2015 17:39

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Q3. Yes, good value and good quality

Oodear · 27/03/2015 18:49

Sorry tantrums interrupted my last post!

Q1. They're quite a decent size so I wouldn't expect to go up sizes so fast. I'd prefer biodegradable but that's the only fault I have with them

Q2. Good value , I never pay more than 10p a nappy ( unless biodegradable) and these fall in that zone (9.9p)

Q3. Yes, good value and good quality

rakaholmes · 27/03/2015 19:24

Q1. I totally loved these nappies, we've had no leaks during the night or with teething nappy fills.. The design of the nappies are great aswell keep my little boy entertained whilst changing his bum.
Q2. I will definatley use them again, and great value for money!
Q3. I have already recommended these nappies, the best we have used by far.

ImGoingForATwix · 27/03/2015 20:57
  1. Like them. No leaks. Fit well. DS seems happy in them. Nice pattern. Only thing I dislike is the chemical smell when they are wet. This is the same with other brands too though.
  2. very good value
  3. yes, would recommend for sure
ImGoingForATwix · 27/03/2015 20:59
    1. and, yes would use again
AWhistlingWoman · 27/03/2015 22:09

Tested with my 16 month old DD3

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
First impression was very good. The nappies themselves are thin, soft and flexible - more like Pampers which is what I usually buy than some of the own brand nappies I've tried which I find to be a little bulkier and rougher.
I found the tabs easy to use and they secured the nappies well. I liked the design on the front, as did my daughter. She was pointing at the animals and chattering away to me!
The sizing is quite generous and the nappies themselves look quite big.
However I did find that she developed quite a nasty rash in the first couple of days of using. I've switched back to Pampers for the time being but will give them another try as could just be a coincidence. Reading the rest of the feedback it looks like it might just be bad timing as nobody else seems to have had an issue!

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
They are good value for money - I have tried to switch away from Pampers over the years but have always found that I either ended up giving my babies nappy or using more as the nappies were less absorbent or leaked.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would recommend these nappies as a good alternative to Pampers and, at the very least, worth a try. There are no branches of Aldi close to us sadly so perhaps wouldn't recommend them as often as if we had a shop nearby.

Iseespring · 28/03/2015 11:17

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They look good quality, feel soft and images give the impression of an expensive brand. They have worked well -no leaks, my baby doesn't appear to be any wetter than with other brands.

The ono think I dislike is that they are initially difficult to put on, needed a few re-adjustments until they are on properly. They don't seem to 'mould' to my baby in the way that Pampers do. Also, the tabs are easily detached by my little one and do not re-stick particularly well if you take the nappy off to check and then want to reapply. These points are minor in comparison to the positives so, overall, I am very impressed.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

They are excellent value for money. I have recently switched my fresh fruit and veg shop to ALDI and am now buying nappies from there too, as a result of this test.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. They do the job and they do it well. Well done ALDI and thank you for the opportunity to test :-)

ThedementedPenguin · 28/03/2015 11:21

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They are great. Had no issues with them at all. Work great and no leaks. The only dislike was the look of them, no idea why though.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

£4.39 is a good price, especially when you compare it to the bigger brands. Great value for money. I would use them again, however I will be unable to as we don't have Aldi in Northern Ireland.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have recommended them to people in England, also to my auntie (travelled down South Ireland to go to aldi). So yes I would tell others about them. I would tell more here but it's pointless as we cannot buy them.

dollydaydream27 · 28/03/2015 15:27

Initially I wasn't that impressed when I took them out of the packet they didn't look as soft as pampers.
However I tried them with ds and they actually are. They haven't caused nappy rash which some other own brands have and I have been very impressed .
2.
Very good value . Would use again , Infact bought a packet today ! Never bought them before even though I do shop at aldi .
3.
Yes will definitely recommend . Impressed with the quality .

pangaea90 · 28/03/2015 15:40

Tried to post this earlier but doesn't seem to have worked, so trying again...

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

Overall, I do like them - DS (2) loves the animal design and they are really soft. BUT, we've had some leaks - thought the first might just have been a one off but over the course of the last week we've had a few, including one on 2.5 hour car journey that I would really have expected a disposable to cope with (we use a mix of cloth and disposables in the day, and I use disposables for journeys like that because I expect them cover it).

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

It is compared to buying single packs of other brands, but I bulk buy another brand (in a box, rather than single packs) and that works out cheaper.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Probably not, because of the leaks and being able to buy others in bulk for less, but I would recommend giving them a go to someone who was looking to change brand. The leaks could just be down to not fitting DS too well, and they might work better for someone else. Plus they are lovely and soft and the design is nice too.

AdamantEve · 28/03/2015 16:53

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

The nappies themselves are attractively designed and my DS enjoyed wearing them because of the pictures! I found them pretty absorbent, definitely as good as Pampers, although we had one massive leak overnight but that was due to DS drinking an excessive amount in the evening.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

The nappies are great value and would be an incentive for me to buy them in the future.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend them as they work just as well as more well known brands but are cheaper so there isn't anything to dislike really!

idleweiss · 28/03/2015 21:55

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They were brilliant nappies. Soft, absorbent, cute design plus I didn't experience any leaking with them.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes, it's great value for money and i will continue using them.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes i would and have already recommended them!

Stephlrm · 29/03/2015 07:05

Q1- I am really surprised that I really love the mamia nappies, I always buy the bambo nature after having tried many other brands. The fit is fantastic, great stretch for active babies and toddlers. They also don't have a very chemical smell that I find other disposable nappies have (like pampers). Not a plastic like feel, reminds me of Naty nappies. They also work really well overnight, no leaks or issues with tabs.
The only thing that I would change is perhaps have them chlorine free and made with natural fibres instead as I feel a lot happier using more natural products on my baby.

Q2- I think the price is very good. It makes me feel quite bad about spending 5 times more on other brands! I will certainly be buying more mamia nappies.

Q3- I will recommend Aldi mamia to friends and family. Price, quality and comfort are all fantastic. The designs are also very sweet.

Candycoco · 29/03/2015 08:00

Q1. My overall impression was that the nappies looked good, and that they did everything that I need from a nappy. I liked that it was a large packet, and were a good fit on the baby. I had no leaks whatsoever, they comfortably held it all in overnight and even when baby had soiled in the morning too it didn't leak, a relief!
I didn't really like look of the plain white inside of the nappy, I prefer the 'mesh' style ones and the green pad from pampers baby dry. It isn't nice to see all the urine in the morning and occasionally it does smell a bit. Overall I was really impressed as these nappies work as well as pampers but at a fraction of the cost.

  1. I think the RRP for Aldi nappies provides excellent value for money and I would certainly use them again.
  1. I would absolutely 100% recommend Aldi Mamia nappies to friends and family. In fact I have done so already as I have been so impressed. Having had many leaks in the past with other cheaper nappies, it seemed worth paying more for pampers to not have to change bedding every morning. But not anymore, having used Aldi nappies for a week I can save a lot of money and still get a great product. Thank you Smile
littlejessie · 29/03/2015 08:21

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I am amazed by these nappies- they're well fitting, and seem comfortable. We've had one nappy leak after an especially big explosion, but even this was better contained than previous ones using other brands. Otherwise, I've been really impressed by their quality and absorbency - actually I'm kicking myself for having wasted time and money buying more expensive versions which have been no better!

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes, it's excellent value for money and I'll definitely be buying them again as we do have an Aldi in our town.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, and I already have done. They're great quality and excellent value for money, which is really important!

TreaterAnita · 29/03/2015 13:02
  1. i was very impressed with the nappies. With my older child I exclusively used Pampers after a poor experience of own brand nappies (Sainsbury's) which I found to be bulky and leaky. However these are easily as good as the brand leader. They had a soft, cotton-like texture and were slim and light without feeling insubstantial. Size 2 fit my 8-week old well and the tabs held the nappy securely. I haven't experienced any leaks so far with them, including during a 6 hour sleep. They also have less of a strong chemical smell than Pampers when wet. The only issue that I could identify is that the wetness indicator isn't particularly clear. That's not really a problem for newborns, but would be useful for toddlers who wee less frequently.
  1. They are excellent value for money. I usually buy Pampers on offer, but even then these work out significantly cheaper. I will definitely be switching and will also be trying the pull ups for my older child.
  1. I would recommend them without hesitation as they are as good as the leading brand and significantly cheaper.
