This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Aldi’s Mamia nappies with their DCs.

Here’s what Aldi say, “Aldi’s Mamia nappies are fast becoming one of the UK’s favourite choice for babies from newborns to toddlers. The Ultra Dry Range scooped Gold at the Mother & Baby Awards for the second year running and has also been successful at the Lovedbyparents Awards, scooping Golds for the Size 3 Mamia Ultra Dry Midi Nappies and Size 4+ Mamia Ultra Dry Maxi+ Nappies. They also recently picked up the Bounty Mums Love Gold Best Private Label Nappy award.

“Aldi’s Mamia range is committed to offering savvy mums the best quality nappies for their little ones.

“As the range has been so successful in awards, we thought we’d put them to the test with Mumsnetters as we really value your opinion. As ever, you are the experts and we’d love to hear your feedback.”

The RRP for Aldi Mamia nappies are:
Size 1: 2-5kg/4-11lbs £1.49 (24 pack)

Just received mine today so will post in a few days

KarenHL · 23/03/2015 18:13

We've been testing these for a few days now. Swore by Mamia when LO was new born but DH insisted we switch to Pampers when she outgrew them. LO has a bottle before bed so is a fairly heavy wetter at night. In the past we've tried cheaper brands during the day and Pampers at night - one s/market brand gave her an awful rash everywhere it had been in contact, so we are wary of trying different ones.

So...

  1. Overall impression: bloody fantastic, could not ask for anything more. Baby happy and dry. DH says the fit is better than Pampers. I prefer these, most definitely. The nappy does not sag when it gets full of wee - doesn't smell with wee either.
  1. Value for money? Not half! These cost less than £5 - our usual costs over £10. Admittedly these have slightly fewer nappies in a pack but not that many.
  1. Would I recommend? a) I'm buying these in future and ditching Pampers; b) I will definitely recommend, these are the best I've used on LO since the Mania newborns. Love, Love, Love these nappies (can you tell we were great impressed and happy with them?) and so does LO.
KarenHL · 23/03/2015 18:23

I forgot to mention the Mamia nappies contained several poos during a week-long poo episode. Pampers did not cope and leaked. Points to DH for realising the cause wasn't an upset tum but the fig jam LO was having at breakfast.

Pixiepops · 23/03/2015 18:56

Q1 I liked the feel of the nappies, the big tabs and the design which makes it really easy to see which way round they should go. However we had 3 daytime leaks which would probably put me off from buying them. It may have been that they weren't fastened tightly enough, though it's not something we've had a problem with with our usual Pampers.

Q2 They are good value, but as I only normally buy nappies wherever they're on offer, the difference in price isn't too significant.

Q3 Probably wouldn't recommend (due to the leaks), though might suggest they're cheap enough to be worth a try.

UnicornFart · 23/03/2015 19:52
  1. My overall impression is excellent. The nappies are a great fit and no where near as bulky as our usual pampers. Our son is very happy in them & hasn't had an issues with rashes etc. They've also kept him dry over night & no leaks. Only thing my husband didn't like, was the lack of wetness indicator!

  2. Value for money is great - around half what we usually pay. Would use them again, and plan too.

  3. Yes, I'd recommend them to friends & family. They nappies are great quality, fit & price. Honestly can't find any problems with them!

NotMrsTumble · 23/03/2015 20:28

Would add that these don't have the chemical smell that we occasionally get with pampers, which can only be a good thing.

Pimientos100 · 23/03/2015 21:29

These nappies are amazing!! They equal any of the leading brands on the market and do so at a much more attractive price.
They are colourful, effective and don't feel bulky like some other value nappies can.
The price is one of the cheapest out there and are even more of a bargain if purchased in bulk.
I have, do and will continue to recommended these nappies, as I would hate for mums to be wasting money on more expensive brands when you can use these Aldi ones with out compromising on quality.

ChuckNovice · 23/03/2015 21:31

Thanks for the Nappies.

  1. Lovely neutral design. Sturdy and last well. Had the occasional leak at night but not as much as usual as my daughter drinks a lot of water through the night.

I do think your recommended sizing was slightly out for us. DD is 18 months and 12 kg and I think I'd go for a 5+ in future.

  1. Good value for money.
  1. Would definitely recommend and in fact have done so.
LittleLostRoeDeer · 24/03/2015 07:41

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

Really good. They're good quality, don't leak and fit well even when very full. They've contained most poo explosions so far! The only negative is the slightly chemical smell which is quite strong.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

yes, I'd use them again without a doubt. Not just because they're really good value but they are the best nappies I've tried.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, and already have done!

EllaMenoPea · 24/03/2015 08:13
  1. Loved the nappies.DD gets nappy rash in all nappies apart from pampers including cotton bottoms and so far so good with these - no nappy rash!

2.Excellent value for money - J dread to think what we've spent in pampers over the last 18 months.

3.Yes, already have.

justbatteringon · 24/03/2015 10:26

I liked these nappies they're very slimline and don't feel plasticly. I also haven't had any leaks so far which is a big change compared to the pampers I usually use.

Like other posters I also buy my nappies in bulk and get them delivered so although the price is good it doesn't make that much difference to me, also northern Ireland don't have aldi I'm quite upset by this because I do prefer these nappies to my usual.
Yes I would recommend these to other parents.

AngelBlue12 · 24/03/2015 11:12

Q1:

First impression, they are nice and soft, some other brands feel a bit rough. I wasn't keen on the pictures as the colours are a bit old fashioned. I am very impressed with their performance though no leaks at all which is a lot better than the Tescos ones I have been using. There isn't an Aldi near us but I think that I will be bulk buying when I go to visit my parents.

Q2:

Excellent value for money, cheap but brilliant quality.

Q3:

I will definitely recommend these to friends and family as they perform very well and all parents want good nappies!

PhilW · 24/03/2015 11:38

I tested size one with my newborn. We usually use pampers & found the Mamia ones comparable. They've been very good & have had no issues. I've not had a poonami to test them on, but they've dealt with usual soiling & wetting.

I'd say they are not quite as absorbent as pampers maybe, so when you're not changing so often (an older child) that might be a problem if bigger sizes are the same. With a newborn they're absolutely fine as you change every few hours anyway. They're also a lot bulkier in the packet than pampers, so take up more space in the change bag.

Overall I liked them very much, good nappies.

The price is very good for what you're getting, great value for money.

I would recommend them to people, yes. I probably won't use them often myself as I don't have an Aldi near me & currently have my nappies delivered by Amazon at a discount. So I probably won't use them, but due to convenience rather than product quality. If I won the voucher I'd probably buy a lot nappies with it as I've got 2 under 2 so use a lot!!

PeopleOnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 24/03/2015 12:51

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
My 3yo still uses nappies overnight. They seem as good as any other nappy, and the tabs can be resealed, which is useful.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
Yes, and yes.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, because the price is good.

Dontbugmemalone · 24/03/2015 13:53

Q1. I really like the nappies. They didn't leak, are not very stiff and seemed like they are comfortable. Most importantly, they didn't give DS a rash.

Q2. Yes, absolutely. Other brands are ridiculous in price and not as good quality.

Q3. Yes, I would recommend them. They are great and I am really impressed with them.

HollyHx · 24/03/2015 14:21

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

On a par with other leading nappy brands. Like the wetness indicator. No problems with leaking.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes - value for money is excellent at 6p per nappy compared to at least 10p per nappy of other brands. We do plan to use them again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, in fact they have been recommended to me by others.

regularbutpanickingabit · 24/03/2015 16:46

I had a pack of size 3s to try with my chubby 3 month old. I usually use Pampers because they were the only ones that coped with PPP explosions with my older 2 kids.

Q1
First impression was that they were so thin and flimsy that I didn't expect them to work very well. They also heard a sort of rustling sound when unwrapping them that suggested they would be quite rough and uncomfortable. I was very pleasantly surprised to see how soft inside they actually were. They certainly seem to be a lot more absorbent than expected because they're has been no nappy rash or even any redness which is great.
I love the back of the giraffe showing the back of the nappy - far easier a visual clue than some nappies.
The fit generally is pretty good, I particularly like the fact there are longer, strong tabs
The only bit I don't feel works as well as my normal nappies is the top at the back isn't so close fitting which has led to a couple of exploding poos up the back uncontained. However, nothing has escaped from anywhere else which is great!

Q2
These definitely seem good value for the number of nappies in the packs and the fact they only need changing as frequently as my usual brand. I do like to order in bulk so a multipack offer would be persuade me to go out of my to Aldi to buy them over more readily-available pampers.

Q3
Yes, I would definitely recommend them

regularbutpanickingabit · 24/03/2015 16:48

Oh my, apologies for the autocorrect spelling and grammar mistakes above! That's what happens when you to try to write an essay on an iPhone!

Ilovenannyplum · 24/03/2015 17:57
  1. didn't dislike anything, nice and soft and good quality

  2. I think this is excellent value for money and I will definitely use them again

  3. yes, world recommend to friends, they are very good for the price that they are

monkeyplastic · 24/03/2015 20:04

Feedback from trial
Q1. Overall first impressions were excellent. Liked that front and back were clear. Good overall thickness.
Q2. Price is excellent. Worth nipping to Aldi just for nappies alone
Q3. Would definitely recommend!

Greypuddle · 24/03/2015 20:53

They're softer than many other brands and fit well. I held off reviewing until I was brave enough to put my 2 year old in them overnight, and I'm glad to say they didn't leak. Yes, the price is good. And yes, I'd recommend them. I really like them. So thank you.

RandallFloyd · 24/03/2015 22:06

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

First impression wasn't great, I thought they looked cheap and far too thin. I was very wrong though, they're fab! My DS is 3.7 so overnight that nappy gets massively full and he hasn't had one even slight leak. Serious, seriously impressed.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Definitely. An absolute bargain.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely, wouldn't hesitate.

RandallFloyd · 24/03/2015 22:10

Hang on, do we need to leave a review too?
The email just says do the survey and post on this thread.

Nidd13 · 24/03/2015 22:51
  1. the nappies looked good. The only thing I found was the fastening tabs weren't very sticky if you had undone them and then wanted to stick down again but nappy still stayed in place.
  2. great value for money and would definitely buy in the future
  3. would recommend to friends. These nappies were great overnight easily lasting over 12 hours. Other nappy brands I have tried never seem to last 12 hours and have been having to do nappy changes at 5am and my lg sleep suit feels damp. With Aldis nappies my lg slept till 630am and no damp feeling sleepsuit!
HappyHippyChick · 24/03/2015 23:01

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

The nappies were great, thin, soft and extremely absorbent. I really liked them.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

These nappies are very good value for money. I normally use Lidl's nappies and rave about them but these are as good and slightly cheaper. I would definitely buy these nappies again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. I always recommend the Lidl nappies as I think they are better than some of the leading brands and I would say the same about these aldi Mamia nappies.
