This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Aldi’s Mamia nappies with their DCs.

Here’s what Aldi say, “Aldi’s Mamia nappies are fast becoming one of the UK’s favourite choice for babies from newborns to toddlers. The Ultra Dry Range scooped Gold at the Mother & Baby Awards for the second year running and has also been successful at the Lovedbyparents Awards, scooping Golds for the Size 3 Mamia Ultra Dry Midi Nappies and Size 4+ Mamia Ultra Dry Maxi+ Nappies. They also recently picked up the Bounty Mums Love Gold Best Private Label Nappy award.

“Aldi’s Mamia range is committed to offering savvy mums the best quality nappies for their little ones.

“As the range has been so successful in awards, we thought we’d put them to the test with Mumsnetters as we really value your opinion. As ever, you are the experts and we’d love to hear your feedback.”

The RRP for Aldi Mamia nappies are:
Size 1: 2-5kg/4-11lbs £1.49 (24 pack)

Size 5+: 13-27kg/29.60lbs £3.99 (36 pack)
Size 6: 15+kg/33+lbs £3.49 (30 pack)

Been using them since yesterday afternoon.

  1. overall they seem great. They're a very good fit, very generous which is particularly great when baby is getting on the big side for them but you've got a few left. They do seem a bit rough though but so far DD hasn't reacted to them and she does have very sensitive skin. We've had no leaks including poos and overnight.

  2. fantastic value for money much cheaper than the big brands and will definitely buy them again.

  3. certainly will recommend them to family and friends as they are good value and do their job very well.

LovelyBranches · 20/03/2015 17:46

Thank you to Aldi for letting my ds test these nappies. Ds has been on antibiotics this week so was very much ready for a thorough testing and when the postman delivered these, I was down to my last 4 nappies in the house so perfect timing. Thank you

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I really liked them and they worked very well. The design is great, I loved that you saw the back of the cow on the back off the nappy. I may be nearly 5 months into motherhood, but it's still taking time to work out what way the nappy goes on sometimes (especially at 4 in the morning). The pattern over the nappy is also colourful and child friendly.

One thing I really liked is that in the middle of the inside of the nappy, there is a black marker. On my usual brand, the same marker exists but it is yellow and whenever I open up DS's nappy, I always think he's poo'd out of the side. This does the same job but a much better colour marker.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

I think it's amazing value for money and I've already bought more, just wish I'd found out about them sooner. They compare very favourably in price to the nappies I normally buy and are actually better quality.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would recommend. They work well even in tough circumstances, they fit securely and have a nice design at a great price.

PickledLilly · 20/03/2015 17:59

Mine only arrived yesterday so I will report back tomorrow.

indieblack · 20/03/2015 18:01

Big fan here.

Great fit - much thinner than other brands I've used so more comfy and better under clothes. No leaks and the tabs are big and strong useful for wriggly toddlers.

About half the price of Pampers for a better product.

Would definitely recommend.

Greymalkin · 20/03/2015 18:25

Nappies arrived today, place marking for later.

Zebrasinpyjamas · 20/03/2015 19:37

1.lovely. Nice and thin and soft too. They didn't leak at all and looked comfortable for my DS.

  1. Yes good value as they feel like a premium product without the price tag.
  1. Absolutely and I have recommended them. Only limitation is how far I live from an aldi store!
ButterflyOfFreedom · 20/03/2015 20:11

1). Haven't got a bad thing to say about these nappies! I think they are just as good as Pampers (which is what we were using before); DH thinks they are better! Fit well, no leaks, not too bulky, nice feel, no complaints at all!

2). Yes definitely good value for money. We would pay these prices & would definitely buy them again.

3). Yes we would recommend them to other mums.

Overall very pleased with the product.

Frenchie84 · 20/03/2015 20:21

Marking place - nappies still not arrived but got card through the letterbox asking to pay £9 for a parcel that didn't have correct postage ... It may or may not be them ...

gorovers · 20/03/2015 20:24

These were great. I loved the design so did my toddler and her big sister. The tabs are sturdy and they were nice and thin so not bulky under clothes.
Good value too.

Kraggle · 20/03/2015 20:24

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I liked the front and back of the animal to remind me which way round it goes, but think the colours are slightly strong and shows through some vests/trousers.

They fit very well and didn't have a chemical smell which some nappies do. No leaks even overnight and coped on an active toddler who had to slide down the slide one more time before I could change her after she'd pooped. They don't hang down and sag when wet either which I've noticed with other brands.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Very good value, I've already got plans to go and stock up!

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would.

Nightfall1983 · 20/03/2015 20:29

Place marking - ours have arrived but not had a chance to try yet...

BettyBitesBums · 20/03/2015 20:31

Q1 I thought the quality was good. I used some Aldi nappies a few years ago and think they're much softer and better quality now. I've been using Pampers since but would happily switch to Aldi now. DD loves the animals on them and likes to tell me which is the front and back.

Q2 The value for money is great. Probably equivalent to supermarket own brand when on offer but much better quality and much cheaper than Pampers.

Q3 I will definitely recommend to friends.

Pizdets · 20/03/2015 20:31

Great nappies, they fit well, no leaks and smell less 'chemical-y' than pampers. Dislikes: they feel slightly more bulky than pampers

Pricing: yes, nappies seem to shoot up in price as you go up the sizes...it's nice to see you can still buy bulk sized packs in supermarkets for a decent price

Would I recommend? Yes, good value and work well!

thereisnocheese · 20/03/2015 20:40

One: very impressed soft and nice look about them.. contained all contents well!
Two: good value
Three: already have recommended to friends!

Summergarden · 20/03/2015 20:42
  1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

We liked them, had no problems with leaks, were soft and comfortable. Not quite as thin as the Pampers we usually use but still very absorbent.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes, pretty good value for money, would use again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would recommend as the quality is good. I usually stock up on Pampers when on special offer and Mamia nappies work about the same price as Pampers then. If there are any promotions of Mamia nappies I would be even more inclined to buy.

rachaelsit · 20/03/2015 21:09

What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
I love them. Not that keen on the design on them, but design doesn't really bother me at he same time as in I would be happy if they were plain.
The fact that they are great value and effective is the only thing I am bothered about. I would and will use them again.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? yes I would and I have done. They're brilliant for the price and do exactly the same as 'leading' brands or what they call premium brands. Better than Tesco and ASDAs too.

Youryour · 20/03/2015 21:21

I'm on day 3 of using these nappies

Q1: So far so good. As another poster said they last well over night no leaking or anything. I've been using pampers and asda nappies and the asda ones are constantly leaking. Also my dd is very near 13lb and I got the size 2 nappies and there's still plenty of room.

Q2: I didn't realise how cheap they were that's fantastic value for money I will definitely be buying these.

Q3: Yes I would recommend these nappies also these nappies have been recommended to me in the past.

Forgot to say my older kids really enjoyed the giant cardboard box they came in, thanks Grin

AvaAmulet · 20/03/2015 22:16
  1. Brilliant - DD loved the colourful animal print and they were a good fit, secured well. We preferred these to a certain premium brand we've used in the past...
  2. Great value! Will definitely be stocking up on these when we visit Aldi.
  3. Yes, we would definitely recommend these to our friends and family members with little ones Grin
lottietiger · 20/03/2015 22:44

I tested size 5 with my two year old son, at night only as he wears pants in the day.

1.great first impression, good design, not too bulky and nice and soft. They seemed to fit well too and didn't cause any chaffing. No leaks at all even for all night use.
2.the nappies are excellent value for money and I would definitely buy them again.

  1. Yes, absolutely I would definitely recommend these nappies to others.
glasgowlass · 20/03/2015 22:55

Recieved nappies early yesterday morning. Have used them exclusively since they arrived.

Q1.
Our overall impression was that these nappies far exceeded our expectations. We loved the colourful animal designs and found that the nappies have fantastic functionality. We normally use Pampers baby dry and found these nappies matched, if not bettered, this brand.

Q2.
We were surprised at how low the RRP was! Fantastic value for money and would save us a small fortune! Very happy to buy again however have visited 2 local Aldi stores, both of which did not have any size 6 nappies in stock.

Q3.
I would (and already have) recommend these nappies to other parents. I've already brought them up in conversation with one of my family members who have said they will give them a try.

YellowTangerine · 20/03/2015 23:24

Firstly, thank you for letting me take part in this product test. I have wanted to try Mamia nappies for a while but never actually got round to it and I'm very glad I did.

Q1. My overall impression of these nappies is that they look at feel high quality. They seemed to fit my DD perfectly which some other brands don't. I also really like the design and the wetness indicator is great.

Q2. The price of these nappies are brilliant. High quality low cost and I will be now using these instead of pampers which will save me a small fortune!

Q3. I would absolutely recommend these to a friend, I have already given my sister some to try for her DD and she is just as impressed as I am.

Eyre89 · 21/03/2015 06:18

Mine arrived yesterday. Jack is very taken with the colourful design.

  1. They are lovely and soft. Just as absorbent as pampers baby dry which I currently use. The only difference I've found is they are bigger than other size 5 nappies I use. My DS is tall and slim so I may need to go down a size in them. There's no tash or any issue and they seem comfortable.
  1. Yes they're good value. I currently bulk buy when offers are on. I'd end up with around 50 more bappies for roughly the same price.
  1. Yes I would recommend them. One of my mummy friends moved from pampers to these so that was one of the reasons I decided to trial them (currently waiting for Aldi to open where I live)

Overall really impressed a lot better than the other own brands I've tried.

missmakesstuff · 21/03/2015 07:58

I tested the size 6 with my daughter who is in one nappy at night, she is nearly 5 and has bowel issues so is not dry at night yet.

  1. I really liked the nappies, they are soft and don't feel 'plasticky'. They we're easy to use (she puts them on herself!) and very nicely designed. No leaks, even with a 2.5s. 4 year old!
  1. Very good value for money, we are probably going to have to use nappies or pull ups on her for several months yet and these compare very well to the special night time pull ups.
  1. Yes I would, and would buy them for baby #2, due imminently. I would buy th. pull ups for dd in future though, as they are just a bit easier as she moves to using the loo and gets bigger.
