This thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested Aldi’s Mamia nappies with their DCs.

Here’s what Aldi say, “Aldi’s Mamia nappies are fast becoming one of the UK’s favourite choice for babies from newborns to toddlers. The Ultra Dry Range scooped Gold at the Mother & Baby Awards for the second year running and has also been successful at the Lovedbyparents Awards, scooping Golds for the Size 3 Mamia Ultra Dry Midi Nappies and Size 4+ Mamia Ultra Dry Maxi+ Nappies. They also recently picked up the Bounty Mums Love Gold Best Private Label Nappy award.

“Aldi’s Mamia range is committed to offering savvy mums the best quality nappies for their little ones.

“As the range has been so successful in awards, we thought we’d put them to the test with Mumsnetters as we really value your opinion. As ever, you are the experts and we’d love to hear your feedback.”

The RRP for Aldi Mamia nappies are:
Size 1: 2-5kg/4-11lbs £1.49 (24 pack)

  3. Yes I would recommend to friends and would change to them myself.
babycakes1010 · 21/03/2015 10:40

Thank you for allowing us to take part in this trial.
I have a 10 month old and we used size 5 nappies.
I liked the fact that there was no leaking unlike some other leading brands and were soft to touch. I also liked the design on the nappies.
I thought the price of these nappies were value for money and I would be purchasing them from now on as other brands we have tried didn't meet to the standards of Mamia even though they were more expensive.
I would definitely recommend these to friends/family.

EsmereldaPB · 21/03/2015 11:03

I've been using the 4+ nappies with my 22 month old, we usually use tesco ultra dry nappies.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I am very happy with the nappies. They are slightly more slimline than our usual nappies but we haven't had any problems with leaking. They have coped overnight being on for 12-14 hours. The only thing I noticed was that the waistband doesn't feel as stretchy as our usual nappies, but having said that I have had tabs rip off before and I don't think that this would happen with the aldi nappies.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

I think that it is average value, my usual nappies are £4.50 compared to £4.39 for the aldi nappies, however they are almost always on 2 for £8 so work out slightly cheaper overall. Also our nearest aldi is about a 30 min drive away, and I can get my nappies delivered with my shopping, so any cost saving would be negated by the cost of getting to aldi to start with. However I would use the aldi nappies again if I were near aldi when buying nappies

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would, yes, as I think that they are good nappies

benfoldsfive · 21/03/2015 11:23

Marking place so I can answer properly. I want to see how many we use over the weekend as dh changes him at the slightest sign of damp!!

FourAndDone · 21/03/2015 11:41
  1. Yes I like the nappies, no chemical smell and attractive design.
  1. Great value for money. About half price of the leading brands.
  1. Yes I would recommend. No leakage and good price!!
NotMrsTumble · 21/03/2015 13:30

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They seemed to compare well against pampers (my usual brand). The nappy seemed to be just as thin, and a similar cut. Wasn't keen on the pattern /decoration, but that wouldn't affect how the nappy worked. Felt soft outside, but a smooth soft than the slightly fluffy soft of pampers. Nappy performed well, no leaks and no rash.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Like a previous poster I normally buy nappies in bulk and have them delivered, which takes them to the same price per nappy as Aldi nappies. If I ran out before my next delivery, I'd certainly consider using these, but I do like the convenience of having nappies delivered.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd recommend them, especially if someone didn't have space to store a months worth of nappies at a time. They're certainly one of the best value nappies on the high street, without compromising comfort or performance.

Ouroboros · 21/03/2015 13:48

DS is 2.5 and pretty big for his age so we used the 5+ size.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

They seem good quality, not too bulky. I didn't change DS for a few hours and the nappy didn't leak, and it also didn't release crystals which has happened with other nappies. There was a small leak on the second night, but DS does tend to drink a lot of water overnight and sleep late so we'd normally put him in a bigger nappy or a pull-up.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

They are brilliant value, and better than other branded nappies that are still more expensive when on offer so we would definitely use them again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend them as they are such great value, especially as they are so effective.

yasmin0147 · 21/03/2015 14:07

I have the 5+ nappies to try, i like the print on the nappies very cute.
Q1- i like the patteren, and the softness of the nappy, i am not sure they are strurdy enough for my child though, she likes to rip nappies off, haha.
Q2- i think that is good value for money, i would buy them if i was near an aldi
Q3- i probably would reccomend them yes

toptomatoes · 21/03/2015 14:50

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I really like them, thin, the tabs don't tear off easily, DD loved the animal design, they also didn't have a chemical smell like some pampers I have used before.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes, they are good value, it is nice to be able to buy them without waiting for an offer as they are cheap enough without. If we had a closer Aldi I would buy them regularly but I will certainly buy a pack when we do go.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, they are a good price, good quality, didn't leak and didn't cause any nappy rash.

HollyJollyDillydolly · 21/03/2015 15:07

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

The nappies were thin and a good size, they're not quite as soft as the pampers nappies but they haven't made dd sore anywhere and she'd let me know if she wasn't comfortable! They seem to hold wee absolutely fine, we have had one poo incident where dd managed to get poo to come out the top of the nappy at the back.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
the price for the nappies is really good, they seem to preform really well compared to pampers which are around twice the price. I'd happily buy these again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think I would recommend Mamia nappies. They perform well and are good value for money.

UnfortunateUsername · 21/03/2015 17:07
  1. My overall impression of these nappies is very positive. They are thinking and not overly plastic feeling. They do well overnight, never had a leak yet with them.
  1. I believe these nappies to be truly excellent value for money. They are every bit as good as more expensive leading brand nappies.
  1. I would and have recommended these nappies to other people.
Travellingseagulls1 · 21/03/2015 19:32

These nappies are great all round and i really like the cut of the nappies round the legs as well as the feel of the nappy. No leaks at all. Not even when little one pooped whilst in the jumperOo which other brands have struggled to contain!

They are really good value, even in the smaller packs but are cheaper still if you buy them in the big boxes. I would definately use them again and i have already been reccomend ing these to all my NCT friends.

Hubby and i held an aldi nappy up against a pampers one and really struggled to identify any significant differences. The only tiny thing i could see on the ones i compared was that the elasticated bits round the legs seemed to be aproximately 1cm longer on the pampers

GlitterTwinkleToes · 21/03/2015 20:34
  1. The nappies are such a small fit that I need to get a bigger fit. They leak over night, couldn't contain my daughters poo - leaked everywhere. The tabs on several of the nappies wouldn't stick down, I've had to tape them down myself. Overall certainly not impressed with them.

  2. For the price they do compare with the market, but for an extra few pence id rather buy Pampers.

  3. From my experience, no I wouldn't recommend them to any of my friends or family.

Signoritawhocansway · 21/03/2015 21:43

I was delighted to be able to take part in this trial, mainly because we got a free pack of nappies (thank you, Aldi) and we're on the breadline. Anyhow, here are our answers! We tried size 4+, as our 19 month old ex-27 weeker has finally passed 9kg. We usually use cloth nappies during the day and disposables at night, so am looking for nappies that will do a 12 hour stretch without leaking. When buying disposables, we either use Asda or Aldi.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

Liked them a lot. Nice child-friendly printed design, slim, not too cheap feeling, not smelly like Pampers. Didn't dislike anything about them!

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

I do think it's good value for money, though sometimes Asda have a linksave on theirs which makes them cheaper (3 packs for £12). As we only use them overnight, a pack lasts a long time.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

I absolutely would, and do on a regular basis. I have a huge amount of ALDI love to share! The only reason I can think of not to recommend is that Aldi round here is getting too busy (but would never say that in real-life!)

minime8 · 22/03/2015 03:08

  1. I was pleasantly surprised by how soft the nappies are and they don't smell like the pampers ones seem to. They have a nice stretchy fit and certainly the size 3 fit true to the weight ranges advertised on the packet. DS is towards the top of the weight range for size 3 yet the nappies still provide coverage and we haven't had any leaks, a first! The animal print is quite cute too.
  1. The price is comparable to the supermarket own brands we have tried, however as the fit is so good we are able to use size 3 which means slightly more in a pack than the size 4's we have had to go up to in the supermarket brands.
  1. Have already recommended to friends on the back of this product test and will continue to do so, will be purchasing the Aldi brand again.

Many thanks for letting us be part of the product test, the nappies are excellent quality and we have found our new favourite brand! Smile

ThursdayLast · 22/03/2015 07:40
  1. they are soft and flexible and really absorbent. However the tabs to do them up are not as long as Sainsburys which can be an issue on the rounded tummy of my DS! Also, they bulge when wet v quickly. One piddle looks like you've left them in that nappy for hours!
    I like the design too.

  2. v good value.

  3. yes I would happily reccomend - in fact I have in the last.

SpottedTent · 22/03/2015 09:15

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
My overall impression is that they are very good. Nice and soft (unlike Sainsburys) and very absorbent (unlike Asda.) The design is bright and they seem very well designed for such a bargain price. My only criticism is that the tabs don't seem to stick as well as other brands but I'd happily overlook that.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
As above, I think they are excellent value, cheaper than my usual brands and I would absolutely use them again.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would. They really have proved to better (especially at night) than what I usually use. My daughter is more comfortable too.

meerschweinchen · 22/03/2015 09:21

Mine haven't arrived yet either - but I see I'm not the only one!

SmileAndNod · 22/03/2015 10:26

DD is 21 months old and in size 4+ nappies. We usually use pampers baby dry.

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?
I was really pleasantly surprised. We've always used pampers and the mania nappies compared favourably. They were just as soft as pampers, didn't smell chemically and the tabs worked well (unlike pampers which sometimes rip right off). The design was nice and bright too. DD stayed dry and no leaks despite her being quite a wriggler.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?
Very good value. About half the price of the pampers we usually buy. I actually couldn't believe that they were so good for something that cheap! They are opening an aldi nearby this week, so I will be going there for nappies from now on.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I would, especially with the new store opening.

Thanks for letting us try.

InAndOfMyself · 22/03/2015 12:34

Q1. What was your overall impression of Aldi’s Mamia nappies? What, if anything, did you like and dislike about them?

I was testing the size 6, they seem slightly narrower than the brand I usually use. They were soft, no chemical smell, and didn't leak or cause nappy rash.

Q2. The RRP for Aldi’s Mamia nappies are above, do you think that this is good value for money? Do you think you’d use them again?

Yes, it is good value for the money and I would use them again if I were in Aldi and needed nappies at that time.

Q3. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aldi’s Mamia nappies to friends and/or family with children using nappies? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, they are good value, work well, and there is no reason not to recommend them.

Maz431 · 22/03/2015 13:34

Mine have not arrived either, hoping we get them tomorrow so we can see how good they are.

CaptainsCabin · 22/03/2015 14:09

Q1. My overall impression of these nappies are very good. They are packaged nicely and feel softer and thinner than the supermarket own brand that I currently buy which even when worn feel a little stiff and bulky.

Q2. These are cheaper than the brand I currently buy. In addition to the points above I think these are very good value for money.

Q3. I would definitely recommend these nappies to friends or family. They look and feel more like a premium brand than some other supermarket own nappies, they do a perfectly good job and are great value in comparison to other similar brands.

I would definitely buy these nappies in the future (I just need to wait until there is an Aldi nearby!)

PickledLilly · 22/03/2015 14:41

Overall I was very impressed with these nappies for the price and think they are good value. They felt nice and thin and flexible and didn't leak at all. They are a little wider than pampers but didn't seem to impede movement or cause discomfort and this probably helps stop any potential leaking. They have a slightly more 'papery' texture than pampers but were not coarse and plenty soft enough. I thought the design was nice and that they were very good value. The only thing I noticed is that although they don't leak, when you change a wet nappy, the inside of them does feel wetter to the touch than the pampers which I usually use so I wonder if they don't absorb the moisture away from the skin quite as efficiently. After two days wear my daughters skin still looks flawless though so it's obviously not irritated her so far. I think when the new Aldi opens near me I would buy these nappies again assuming prolonged use didn't cause any sort of rash. I think they are very good quality for the price and far better than lidl and sainsbury's nappies both if which I tired once and never bought again.

I would definitely recommend these to other Mums.

DancingLola · 22/03/2015 15:27

Q1. We've been using them for a few days now, and I'm very impressed with the quality. They aren't bulky, don't feel very plasticky, and we've had no problems with any leaks. I would probably move up to size 5 if we continue to use them, but overall I'm happy. The design on them is cute too!

Q2. I think it's a good price, and yes I'd be happy to use them again.

Q3. Yes I would, I think they are good value for money, especially for younger babies who go through lots!
