We have a very exciting product test for you...We've been asked by Samsung to find 30 Mumsnetters to try out their new G-Series American-style fridge freezer (average selling price £1,800) in their home and give feedback on Talk. Everyone who is selected to take part and adds their feedback will get to keep the fridge freezer forever!

This is what Samsung says about the product: "With the new G-Series three door American-style fridge freezer, you will get lots more storage space thanks to thin wall insulation technology. You also get the benefit of some really clever features, all designed to make your life easier. A plumbed dispenser gives you chilled and filtered ice and water on tap, foldable shelves mean you can fit all your food and drink in irrespective of their size, shape, width or breadth, and FreshSafe Vegetable drawers give you the best humidity levels to preserve vitamins and nutrients in any fruits and vegetables you?re storing. Even better is the CoolSelect Pantry which acts as a mini fridge within a fridge. It?s an independently controlled drawer which can be set to three different temperatures, so you can be sure you are storing your food at the right temperature."

There are a number of criteria for taking part in this project - to take part you must:

  • Live in mainland UK
  • Be willing to provide two lots of feedback (once when the fridge freezer has just been delivered and again after a couple of months) which will appear on MN and may be used for marketing by Samsung (they will link to the feedback thread from their website - you can namechange for the feedback if you like)
  • Be available at home for one weekday in the next 2-3 weeks (date to be arranged with Samsung) for delivery
  • Have space, electricity and a cold water supply (for ice and water dispenser) for a fridge freezer this size in your kitchen (or wherever it would live) - click here for more information on dimensions etc

If you are selected to take part, the fridge freezer will be delivered free of charge but Samsung aren't able to remove any old appliances so you would need to arrange for any existing fridge freezer occupying the space to be removed yourself.

You will get to keep the new fridge freezer once the product test is finished - so long as you add at least 2 lots of feedback on Mumsnet. Feedback will focus on overall impressions of the fridge freezer, the flexibility of the storage space inside it, any features you particularly like etc.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks

oooh would love to be picked for this Smile

"Triggles we passed on your comments to Samsung and here's their response (also see answer to warranty queries below):

?The problem you mention was isolated to one model, which is no longer being produced. Samsung was aware of this fault and offered a full repair service. The issue did not pose a safety risk, or impact the length of the appliance?s life and was covered by warranty. Samsung currently offer a 2 year warranty on all refrigeration products.?
"

This was only done after a lot of compaints and, eventually, Watchdog getting involved. I had to fork out almost £200 buying a fix kit myself and getting someone to install it. I have to say this clouded my view of Samsung. That and some shoddiness in the design of the water/ice levers which made them difficult to repair.

lousue · 07/07/2011 17:41

I have had a Samsung for the past 8 years - Not a glitch! Tried to enter but it wouldnt work :-(

Seaholly · 07/07/2011 17:49

Room for one here, and my current one 's door doesn't shut properly so keeps freezing my shopping! So would be very happy with a new one!

PIMSoclock · 07/07/2011 18:07

Fantastic product test!! Got everything crossed.
When will we find out?? X

LeeAnniW · 07/07/2011 18:10

Ooooh, have been pondering one of these for a while. This may be the dealbreaker! Count me in ;0)

LeeAnniW · 07/07/2011 18:13

Did I mention my husband has broken all three drawer handles in my current freezer because it keeps icing over :o(

Doobydoo · 07/07/2011 18:23

There are squadgeillions of entries for this.......

AnnMumsnet · 07/07/2011 18:29

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls - amended for you

stressheaderic · 07/07/2011 18:32

I'd love one, but my kitchen is about the size of one of them.

Triggles · 07/07/2011 18:35

NewGirlHelenMumsnet - thank you for that response. I'm glad they addressed it. It was a concern, and I felt in all honesty I had to at least mention it.

SoupDragon - yes, some of the issues over that whole situation has been the main reason we have not purchased one. I certainly don't want to slam a product if they have fixed the flaw, although I know there were some customer service issues as well, I would like to think they've addressed and improved those areas as well.

Thank you Mumsnet for following that up. I do appreciate it.

OMG

I never get picked, but this would really fill a need! We have the world's littlest, shittest fridge. Honestly. It freezes everything near the back ... and everything is near the back b/c the whole fridge is the size of a postage stamp. Cannot store leftovers or find anything without taking everything out - it is AWFUL

DurhamDurham · 07/07/2011 19:47

Phew, thought I'd missed this one. Been away and a friend advised me to get on here sharpish to enter.

We have the space and the water supply. I even have a 14 year old daughter who tends to seak with an American accent for reasons known only to her!! (could have been the hours of Nickelodeon I let her watch each week when she was small)

Good Luck to all, but epecially me Smile

whomovedmychocolate · 07/07/2011 19:50

I have three sodding fridges/fridge freezers. I regularly lose food because it gets put in the wrong fridge. Hmm

madamy · 07/07/2011 19:57

wow - what an opportunity! Survey filled in - I cannot begin to tell you how useful this would be to our busy household of 3 young children and 2 shift workers!

JiminyCricket · 07/07/2011 20:27

Aw, forgot to mention on the form that we do have an electricity socket in the right place too. Got DH keeping his fingers crossed...

BettyTurnip · 07/07/2011 20:40

Filled in the form last night. Just wondering how it's decided who's picked? Is it an entirely random lottery type affair, or does it come down to the thirty most heart-rending begging posts on here? Grin.

fruitshootsandheaves · 07/07/2011 21:04

and i forgot to mention that the handle of our current fridge freezer is a piece of string! string i tell you, because the design is so poor the handle broke so many times that the manufacturers ran out of replacements (that may be a slight exaggeration, I think they stopped making them) But that shows how desperately we need a new one (fridge freezer not a handle)

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 07/07/2011 21:12

Grin thanks Helen!

Olivesandfeta · 07/07/2011 21:22

Can you put me down please :) another one here desperate for one!

HeadfirstForHalos · 07/07/2011 21:29

What form?

ceeb · 07/07/2011 21:40

I have an American-style fridge freezer and I love it. We designed our kitchen to fit one! However, the one we bought (an LG) has a side-by-side design which means the freezer isn't wide enough to hold a frozen pizza. Not a great design for a family like ours, oops.... Also, our kitchen has silver appliances and our fridge is white - bad planning. Finally, the LG model keeps our veg so cold that at times they actually freeze, and I can't figure out how to change it (despite fiddling with the settings). The Samsung model promises to make it easier to adjust the settings within various parts of the fridge, which would help.

HeadfirstForHalos · 07/07/2011 21:42

Found it

shakey1500 · 07/07/2011 22:44

Completed the survey (is it right that after I'd submitted it took me to the bloggers page???)

This would be a godsend :)

sweetkitty · 07/07/2011 23:18

Have signed up for it, my current fridge freezer pees water out the freezer every so often and I'm fed up of mopping up puddles plus we need a bigger freezer, am fed up of stuffing all the chicken nuggets organic fruit and vegetables in when the shopping is delivered! Would so love a nice big, roomy, non leaking fridge freezer.
