We have a very exciting product test for you...We've been asked by Samsung to find 30 Mumsnetters to try out their new G-Series American-style fridge freezer (average selling price £1,800) in their home and give feedback on Talk. Everyone who is selected to take part and adds their feedback will get to keep the fridge freezer forever!

This is what Samsung says about the product: "With the new G-Series three door American-style fridge freezer, you will get lots more storage space thanks to thin wall insulation technology. You also get the benefit of some really clever features, all designed to make your life easier. A plumbed dispenser gives you chilled and filtered ice and water on tap, foldable shelves mean you can fit all your food and drink in irrespective of their size, shape, width or breadth, and FreshSafe Vegetable drawers give you the best humidity levels to preserve vitamins and nutrients in any fruits and vegetables you?re storing. Even better is the CoolSelect Pantry which acts as a mini fridge within a fridge. It?s an independently controlled drawer which can be set to three different temperatures, so you can be sure you are storing your food at the right temperature."

There are a number of criteria for taking part in this project - to take part you must:

  • Live in mainland UK
  • Be willing to provide two lots of feedback (once when the fridge freezer has just been delivered and again after a couple of months) which will appear on MN and may be used for marketing by Samsung (they will link to the feedback thread from their website - you can namechange for the feedback if you like)
  • Be available at home for one weekday in the next 2-3 weeks (date to be arranged with Samsung) for delivery
  • Have space, electricity and a cold water supply (for ice and water dispenser) for a fridge freezer this size in your kitchen (or wherever it would live) - click here for more information on dimensions etc

If you are selected to take part, the fridge freezer will be delivered free of charge but Samsung aren't able to remove any old appliances so you would need to arrange for any existing fridge freezer occupying the space to be removed yourself.

You will get to keep the new fridge freezer once the product test is finished - so long as you add at least 2 lots of feedback on Mumsnet. Feedback will focus on overall impressions of the fridge freezer, the flexibility of the storage space inside it, any features you particularly like etc.

If you are interested in taking part please sign up here.

Thanks

Mine's coming on Saturday Grin. Had a minor panic yesterday when I realised that the fridge is going to have to negotiate a tight turn into the final room. but DH is confident! If all else fails, we have a plan which involves removing the breakfast bar (which is the bit in the way) and then replacing it again afterwards. The fridge will fit in by hook or bloomin' crook!

MadameBoo · 21/07/2011 13:08

Four hours until I can switch it on.

TheRealMBJ · 21/07/2011 13:14

I know! Ridiculous Grin

Helen, I've had a call back from the delivery company (the delivery guys were excellent and I can't fault them) who has suggested that they will get the part off Samsung and then send another van out to do the final connection sometime soon. Could you confirm please?

I'm tempted to just get DH to do it as I'm sure it is a relatively simple task, BUT I just want to check that Samsung would be happy with that and that the flushing of the lines isn't in actual fact too complicated for a pleb like DH Smile Thanks

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/07/2011 13:32

Is it behemoth like and huge?

I am slightly concerned that they have to negotiate a tight turn between the bannisters - perhaps we will have to knock the bannisters down. I hope so - I hate the bannisters. We could do with getting some new ones.

I am cashing in on the joyous free fridge news - am getting DP to do loads of stuff in anticipation of the fridge's arrival. It is like the Queen is coming to tea!

fishie · 21/07/2011 13:38

We've got a newel post which they will have to lift it over, I told them on phone and they came for a site visit to determine how many bods they'd need. three are coming but not till 8th as we're on hols.

WhipMeIndiana · 21/07/2011 13:53

how exciting! mine is due on monday

MadameBoo · 21/07/2011 13:56

It's not too huge at all GOML. But it's fabulous. I have been lovingly peeling off all the packaging, playing with all the drawers and generally falling for it :o

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/07/2011 14:02

I am just hoping that this makes up for my NEVER having got an A la Carte kitchen when I was 6.

I bet alouise had an A La Carte kitchen. This is why she didn't get the fridge. Karma.

Tequilamockinbird · 21/07/2011 14:07

Oh I can't wait for Monday now after reading these Grin

Is the freezer quite big? And does it have drawers? Looking at the photos on the Samsung site you can't really tell!

tethersend · 21/07/2011 14:07

Have just arranged delivery for next Fri- BUT:

They are adamant that the water supply must be within ONE METRE of the appliance.

HELP!

I made a point of quoting this thread:

"Samsung has just confirmed that the water supply can be up to 4 metres away from the space. It doesn't need to be within 1 metre."

They told me that it was not true, and that it needed to be within one metre.

Help again!

mygirllollipop · 21/07/2011 14:12

Oooooh if they take the doors off then I may not need to remove my banisters.
Anybody who has already got theirs, could you tell me a little more about how many pieces it came in etc please?

MadameBoo · 21/07/2011 14:15

Hmm, I don't think that's true Tether. I have the pipe here that's supplied with it, ready for Wednesday when my plumber friend comes. It looks longer than 1m. Anyway, you can always pop and get a longer one I'm sure.

MadameBoo · 21/07/2011 14:17

2 doors, bottom drawer, main body. And they fixed the handles on afterwards.

NewGirlHelenMumsnet · 21/07/2011 14:21

tethersend - I've asked Samsung about this again and will get back to you

Thanks speedy Helen Smile

Tequilamockinbird · 21/07/2011 14:22

Is the freezer only 1 drawer then? I may need to have a massive BBQ this weekend and use the food up!

MadameBoo · 21/07/2011 14:25

It's a big drawer with two sliding compartments and divider thingy. It will fit our stuff in fine. 2 1/2 hours until I can turn it on...

Tequilamockinbird · 21/07/2011 14:29

Thanks MB, might have the BBQ anyway though WinkGrin

WhipMeIndiana · 21/07/2011 14:41

get orf - I never had an a la carte kitchen, nor an ice magic penguin musher thing.
I did have a big yellow teapot though..

Al0uiseG · 21/07/2011 14:48

What is an "A La Carte kitchen"? It sounds like something Hyacinth Bucket would have!

Essex this weekend Getorf? Keep the noise down won't you Wink

DirtyMartini · 21/07/2011 15:04

I told them on phone and they came for a site visit to determine how many bods they'd need. three are coming

This - as well as the memory of when we had eight guys bringing our piano upstairs - is making me wonder if I should get back to the delivery people myself, and suggest they may want to send an extra person.

I did explain the second floor/no lift/twisty spiral staircase scenario to the woman who rang about arranging the delivery. Think I actually said "It's going to be tough for them", I think. Or I might have said "awkward". But there was no mention of a possible site visit or an extra delivery person.

Am a bit worried they will arrive and not be able to get it up the stairs. Helen, do you think I should ring the delivery people back? Do you have a number for them that you could send me?

DirtyMartini · 21/07/2011 15:10

Got the number via PM, thanks :)

MadameBoo · 21/07/2011 15:36

I didn't have a big yellow teapot. or one of those Tree house thingies. Or a Barbie townhouse.

But now I have a sexy fridge freezer. 1 1/2 hours till switch on time.

TheRealMBJ · 21/07/2011 15:49

It sounds like they might be using different delivery companies...

Helen could you check with Samsung RE: my query above? It's just that on the installation guide it says something about purchasing water connection kit from Samsung, but as I understand it we only need a stop-valve which we could get from any hardware/plumbing supply store. I really don't want to go ahead and attach it if I should wait but likewise I'd rather get DH to do it tomorrow than wait a week or 2.

mygirllollipop · 21/07/2011 15:51

Thanks Madame for the info.
