Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news...

Anybody care to join?

I realised that it was the everyday stuff I missed most during lockdown. I really miss things being normal and dull and unexciting. Everyone in RL just talks covid covid covid all the bloody time. If it isn't covid it's recessions and A levels.

I bought a new flask. It's a 500ml Thermocafe and I love it. I take it into work and out into the garden.

I am also learning to do something called a "halo braid" in my hair. I am so bad at braiding it's unbelievable.

The cat hid a dead shrew in DH's slipper this morning.

I invite you all to top this parade of mediocrity.

@Anyfucker that's lovely congratulations Smile

ElectiveAffinities · 24/08/2020 08:23

Congrats AnyFucker. Though you're steering dangerously close to exciting there.

The burglar alarm man is coming to do the routine check on the system today. He should have come months ago but because of Covid all the home visits were cancelled. We have been assured that he will observe all the correct social distancing measures.

In preparation, I steam-cleaned the kitchen floor yesterday and, because hardly anyone's set foot in the house for months except for DH and me, will probably do my usual flurry of panicked tidying-round before he comes today, for fear of Making A Bad Impression.

FawnDrench · 24/08/2020 09:07

I haven't got a George Forman grill now, but I did have one some years ago.

I am going to Tesco's to buy, among other things, some white vinegar spray,

I'm not sure if the sentence above contains a split infinitive or some other grammatical misdemeanour.

userxx · 24/08/2020 09:18

I had my oven cleaned.

I love a clean oven. Really need mine doing again, the last guy charged me £25 and it was sparkling. Sadly I think he's gone out of business.

HebeMumsnet · 24/08/2020 09:25

Who'd have thought the dull and unexciting could be so interesting? We've had lots of votes for this to go into Classics so we're moving it over now.

Lovelydovey · 24/08/2020 09:30

After six months of letters from Thames Water suggesting I have a leak, and engineer has finally been and confirmed we do not - we’re just using a lot of water as we have been working from home and home schooling....

forgetthehousework · 24/08/2020 10:15

You can pay someone to clean your oven? I need to seriously look into this ...
(I'm possibly getting too excited for this thread).

DH got distracted and failed to remember my second coffee this morning - I think I need a monkey butler.

Polkasquare · 24/08/2020 10:19

Going to pickle some beetroot today.

Absolutely. And they make it look brand new. I pay £60 fir a single oven, hob and hood. He throws in over liners and bulbs as needed, as does the shelves and grill pan too.

Even my domestic goddess MiL has given up on doing her own oven. Google “oven cleaning” and the name of your nearest town, I bet you find a few people offering it.

SummerHouse · 24/08/2020 10:21

I saw this thread many times but couldn't be bothered to click on it. Then I saw it was in classics so thought I would give it a go. It's good. I like it.

Ninkanink · 24/08/2020 10:23

The parcel we got today wasn’t either of the things I was expecting (curtain holdbacks or salad/starter plates); it was, in fact, the two linen weave napkins I bought a while back to use as small table cloths. They are both perfect for what I had envisaged so I’m happy.

DH is stripping multiple layers of paint off an old door - his first project in our old house which we’ve only just moved into. There are six more to do.

I’m having my coffee and chilling.

Congratulations AF! 🧸🎈

Margo34 · 24/08/2020 10:25

We have a mystery leak in the house. I had the gutters replaced and yet the house still leaks.

I'm really looking forward to the scaffolders and plumbers coming later in the week and hearing their 2 pence worth.

Margo34 · 24/08/2020 10:26

I also need to burp the kimchi I made that is sat fermenting in the kitchen.

Sunbird24 · 24/08/2020 10:31

I’ve rearranged my bedroom furniture, except for the wardrobes, they were too heavy. My houseplants also survived being abandoned for a week.

forgetthehousework · 24/08/2020 10:33

Thank you @BikeRunSki, it genuinely never occurred to me that this was available Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/08/2020 10:41

I just ironed all my work shirts (linen, so if you do not catch the right moment they turn into wall art).

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 24/08/2020 10:47

The printed i want to buy is oos nearly everywhere online. But I saw it in john lewis last week so am going to go there today to see if they have any in stock

ElectiveAffinities · 24/08/2020 11:06

I bought a pilea plant in the hope that I won't manage to kill it (I'm quite successful with growing veg but houseplants aren't my thing for some reason).

It's very small but is already putting put a new leaf since I got it, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

TSSDNCOP · 24/08/2020 11:21

I got 24 on Popmaster today. PB score.

AF, lovely news!

TSSDNCOP · 24/08/2020 11:24

@CoronaIsShit you've made me recall a memory of when DF's tomatoes ripened and the most asked question for weeks was "how many tomatoes would you like?". I used to eat them like grapes. Thank you for reminding me Smile

dementedma · 24/08/2020 11:29

My most annoying and useless staff member has just informed me she’s leaving!! Break out the bubbly!

Lweji · 24/08/2020 11:30

Bought new shoes yesterday.
A couple of very boring comfortable tan shoes, and a couple of red nubuck flat slingbacks.

AyeCorona1 · 24/08/2020 11:31

I've just cut my very recently turfed new lawn for the first time. 7 weeks ago I had a concrete yard, now I have blisters, a bad back, an empty savings account and a beautiful garden.

Jemimatheragdoll · 24/08/2020 11:34

Have just cleaned the downstairs bathroom-it has recently developed a curious smell and can't find the source.

Now having a coffee whilst waiting for my Gousto delivery but I find this exciting so worried you might chuck me off this thread!

Livpool · 24/08/2020 11:39

I just stung my finger on a nettle.

Less than 5 minutes later after an antihistamine, Anthisan cream and aloe vera gel and am ok again
