Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news...

Anybody care to join?

I realised that it was the everyday stuff I missed most during lockdown. I really miss things being normal and dull and unexciting. Everyone in RL just talks covid covid covid all the bloody time. If it isn't covid it's recessions and A levels.

I bought a new flask. It's a 500ml Thermocafe and I love it. I take it into work and out into the garden.

I am also learning to do something called a "halo braid" in my hair. I am so bad at braiding it's unbelievable.

The cat hid a dead shrew in DH's slipper this morning.

I invite you all to top this parade of mediocrity.

@The80sweregreat

Had a shower and on my second mug of tea. I Found a porridge pot lurking in the cupboard from my 'lockdown stash' which pleased me no end as I won't have to cook up the oats now and have a pan to clean , just boil the kettle. Have to do some housework today and need some more milk. Weekends used to be so much fun when I was young.
I cook my porridge in the microwave. I'm only making one portion but no horrible pans to scrub.

Just make sure you use a big enough jug 🙄😭😂😂😂

QuestionableMouse · 23/08/2020 09:55

@The80sweregreat

I'm totally chuffed with them! Think I'll order another set. They were more than I'd usually pay but feel great quality and are so comfy!

Cocolapew · 23/08/2020 10:00

Nice PJs.
I'm going for a 3 mile walk. I'm don't know whether to take my raincoat or not. It's sunny atm but was lashing an hour ago.

The80sweregreat · 23/08/2020 10:13

I do normally ' cook my oats' 😀but my joy at seeing an actual pot of it behind the weetabix was unfounded ( I know it's more packaging etc but I did stock up when the great loo roll / pasta madness was going on in March just in case any oats were affected by the shortages!)
You had to grab what you could back then!

ElectiveAffinities · 23/08/2020 10:20

@WouldBeGood

Who knew that’s how you get pea shoots? I’m excited now and must try this

It's dead easy. Soak a handful of peas overnight, making sure the water covers them. Next day, drain them and scatter them over a thin layer of compost in a suitable container. Stand back and watch them sprout. I keep them slightly watered. Within a couple of days they had green shoots and within a week they were big enough to harvest.

In other dull news, the 'select' button on our TV remote has become annoyingly sticky. A quick Google revealed that this can be remedied by opening up the handset and blotting away the excess oil inside, but DH decided he couldn't be faffed and sent off for a new one from eBay for £4-something.

ElectiveAffinities · 23/08/2020 10:26

Just noticed you used the word 'excited', WouldBeGood Shock

Kisforkaylied · 23/08/2020 10:27

I just had a flat white out of the coffee machine and put the perfect amount of caramel syrup in it and it was absolutely delicious.

I'm just about to go out to the woods with DH.

The80sweregreat · 23/08/2020 10:49

Elective , My dh doesn't like using any ' tips' for renewing any appliances like remote controls that go wrong ( if it involves any effort or a screwdriver) he feels it ' won't work ' or ' too old to repair ' so this is why we are on first name terms with our Hermès delivery lady.
'Why do this when I can buy it for under a fiver ? ' is the usual response.
We watch Dick and Angel Strawbridge in awe repairing and fixing things in their beautiful chateau on tv. His argument is ' he has better tools and drills that actually work'.
Hmm.. ( looks at dh's many tools in the shed)

ElectiveAffinities · 23/08/2020 10:57

I'm quite surprised actually The80s because mine is usually quite keen to have a go at these dodges....I think this time he felt that a £4 investment was quite a modest price for a guaranteed fix Grin

In his defence, he has fixed lots of other things in ingenious ways.

The80sweregreat · 23/08/2020 11:20

That's good to hear. Mine was keen on diy in the early day's , but it's tapered off a lot in the last few years!

BungleofWimbledon · 23/08/2020 11:33

I just invested in a summer duvet, it went on the bed today as I’ve put fresh sheets on. My other duvet was a 13.5 tog and was too hot.

My sister thinks I’ve left it too late to get the benefit of it this year, and looking out of the window at the grey sky, I am inclined to agree.

fuckingcovid · 23/08/2020 11:39

I spent several hours cleaning out the garage and trying to get rid of the mice dropping and urine smells.

It stinks of disinfectant but at least I know where things are

I shall go out later and set humane mice traps in case the little fuckers get in again.

fuckingcovid · 23/08/2020 11:41

I have Egyptian toes. No idea how that ties into Irish/English heritage

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/08/2020 11:45

We started on the material - but DH is making discoveries.
So I am on MN and doing Duolingo, waiting .....

alangarneristerrifying · 23/08/2020 11:47

I nearly "went" to church today, but I had the wrong zoom link, so it was a non-event. I might wander down to the allotment later, but then again I might not.

FawnDrench · 23/08/2020 13:03

I've just finished a crossword.

I shall shortly be making a nice cup of tea and I'm going to have 2 ginger nuts with it.

DH has mended the garden hose.

FunnysInLaJardin · 23/08/2020 13:15

I'm about to play solitaire on my iPad while I eat lunch

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 23/08/2020 13:35

I've just finished lunch.

I'm now packing up some food for the freezer for DH to take to a friend. I'm packing soft drinks so that they can sit and have a chat - this is by no means equivalent to micro-managing a play date for them. While I'm in the freezer, I will take out the meal that will be DH's dinner tonight.

While DH is gone, I'm going to carry on reviewing an academic paper so that I can send it back before the deadline.

forgetthehousework · 23/08/2020 13:56

DH is looking for interesting events for us to go to in 2021 as all our favourites have have been cancelled for this year (no surprises there).
I am making little people to go in the 1/24th dolls house (includes some swearing at the particularly fiddly bits).
DH has been volunteered to make tea.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/08/2020 14:30

I am off work for the next week and planning some unexciting things for me to do:
botanical gardens, though the houses are still shut
garden center (not UK type) - for bee friendly plants for autumn
zoo again, as I have a ticket
what else?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/08/2020 15:45

I made an apple (home grown) and rhubarb slice for dessert, and a coconut salmon curry for dinner later.

DH is rearranging the woodpile

DS 1 just finished a 176 mile bike ride from Durham to Edinburgh

DS2 just heard his job is gone ( thanks covid)

I have opened the gin

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 23/08/2020 15:45

Oh and i still have greek toes

sueelleker · 23/08/2020 16:09

I'm making some yoghurt in my Instant Pot. And (this may be too exciting) 'm waiting for a new larder fridge to be delivered.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 23/08/2020 16:15

I'm making some yoghurt in my Instant Pot.

I made some this morning. Tho' as mine is one of the older IPs I don't have enough control of the temperature so I just use it to scald the milk before carrying on with the process and putting it in a more temperature-controlled proofer to finish. I use the high-low method for the culture (1 hr at 46C then 2 or more hrs at 30C until done to my liking).

Bin85 · 23/08/2020 16:25

I am trying to discover what the grandad of the family at the end of our garden is making in their garden ?!
We have had days of tap , tap , tap hammering and it's now progressed to possible sanding noises.
My vote is tree house or skateboard ramp .
I will keep you posted .
