Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news...

Anybody care to join?

I realised that it was the everyday stuff I missed most during lockdown. I really miss things being normal and dull and unexciting. Everyone in RL just talks covid covid covid all the bloody time. If it isn't covid it's recessions and A levels.

I bought a new flask. It's a 500ml Thermocafe and I love it. I take it into work and out into the garden.

I am also learning to do something called a "halo braid" in my hair. I am so bad at braiding it's unbelievable.

The cat hid a dead shrew in DH's slipper this morning.

I invite you all to top this parade of mediocrity.

hard - of course

cheeseychovolate · 21/08/2020 17:22

I have washed all of the children's new school uniform

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 21/08/2020 17:33

I learned how to pull the audio from a video clip and make it into a ringtone/alarm call for someone.

longtompot · 21/08/2020 17:52

I cleared out the under the stairs cupboard (don't read this next bit as far too exciting for this thread. It was so I could fit in our 25 bottle wine rack, and our first Naked wine delivery)

Just tied up my poor sweetcorn plants which got blown flat in the wind. The sunflowers are so far holding up. One is over 2m and I really didn't think it would make it.

I'm making kedgeree for dinner. The smoked haddock turned out to be smoked basa. I hope it's tastes the same.

listsandbudgets · 21/08/2020 18:09

I moved the toaster to make way for a new food processor that was meant to arrive today.

The food processor has not arrived and will come early next week.

I am cross I spent all that effort moving the toaster.

Jemimatheragdoll · 21/08/2020 18:11

I have the house to myself for about an hour-first time I've been on my own since March - absolute bliss 😊

Ninkanink · 21/08/2020 18:24

Ohhhh @Jemimatheragdoll enjoy it! Wine Cake Gin Brew

This afternoon I cooked up some quinoa in chicken stock, roasted some veg (tomatoes, yellow pepper and courgette) with garlic and herbs in lots of olive oil, then mixed the two together. I also roasted some aubergine, cut into quarters lengthways, with rosemary, garlic granules, chilli flakes and lots of olive oil.

This will be the bulk of our lunch tomorrow when PIL’s visit. All that will need doing tomorrow is to warm up the quinoa and aubergine, quickly make up some houmous, fry some slices of halloumi for a minute either side, add some fresh herbs (parsley and coriander) to the quinoa, cut up some cucumber to dip into the houmous, plus toast and slice some pitta breads, also to dip into the

I’m hungry now.

Todaywewilldobetter · 21/08/2020 18:27

I fancy a new salad bowl.

Itsatoughgig · 21/08/2020 18:30

I ate some chocolate earlier

turquoise50 · 21/08/2020 18:30

This is probably way to exciting for this thread, but I've downloaded a decluttering app called Toss Smile. So far it's making me sort through categories of things which I didn't really consider 'cluttered', while ignoring the mountains of actual, unclassifiable clutter adorning all the surfaces in my house, but still.

Anyway today's category was 'tools'. It turned out I had three each of: hacksaws, decorators' tape measures, pliers and Stanley knives, four adjustable spanners, and several unidentifiable objects which I've inherited and can't imagine ever needing. I’m attempting to offload some of this onto ExH, but idk what I’m going to do with them if he doesn't want them.

In the process, I also found my missing secateurs and a set of DS's pens which we spent ages searching for yesterday and which had inexplicably found their way into one of the tool kits.

I might need a lie down now. Sorry if anyone feels the same after reading it!

turquoise50 · 21/08/2020 18:31

too exciting

Franticbutterfly · 21/08/2020 18:36

I bought a menstrual cup today. Don't know if I'll use it, but I'm going to give it a crack. Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/08/2020 18:47

I have just been downstairs at NDN to feed and cuddle their cats.
I will do this until they return.

TheMostHappy · 21/08/2020 18:52

Today I ordered a new candle lighter. It is an electric spark and is usb rechargeable instead of the small gas flame ones.

emmetgirl · 21/08/2020 18:58

I had my first full day off since the beginning of July. I did loads of washing but spent most of the day laying down and watching nonsense online. Bliss

jcoc147 · 21/08/2020 19:16

I have decided on my kitchen tiles after lots of procrastinating. Going to order them tmrw. I was never allowed anything pink in the house when ex dh was here and now I am redoing every room and can have whatever the hell I want! 😊😊

elephantoverthehill · 21/08/2020 19:19

I think that may be a bit too exciting for this thread jcoc Grin - having whatever you want!

Haha but to others my tiles will not be exciting at all!
Lurchermom · 21/08/2020 20:01

I had a very disappointing bottle of wine with dinner; but dinner was Bolognese with home made pasta (linguine) so it didn't ruin the evening.

Trailing1 · 21/08/2020 20:11

MIL has made some random liquid solution which attracts small flies so that they fall in and drown. I've spent longer today than I care to admit watching for the flies to meet their end. (I haven't managed to witness it but it clearly works as there are a few dead 'uns in there! )

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/08/2020 20:20

DD just informed me that fruit flies dislike the smell of bitter almond.
Should I try this or would that be too exciting?

BadlydoneHelen · 21/08/2020 20:28

Some people are doing some almost exciting thingsHmm.
I, on the other hand, have re-graded all my towels ( from wipe up random spills through beach, family and up to guest ) now that my mother has gifted me some of hers.

AquarianSquirrel · 21/08/2020 20:32

We're about to buy a new kitchen bin... this shouldn't be included though because it's actually very exciting!

TheCanyon · 21/08/2020 20:34

I cleaned my house like the queen was visiting, literally washed every surface from top to bottom in 2 hours.

Though to be fair, Dps were coming through with db and sil.

BrandNewShinyThings · 21/08/2020 20:38

On our usual walk the steps, which have been closed due to tree felling for some weeks, are now open. On the same walk, the fence which blew down at the beginning of lockdown has now been replaced.
