Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news...

Anybody care to join?

I realised that it was the everyday stuff I missed most during lockdown. I really miss things being normal and dull and unexciting. Everyone in RL just talks covid covid covid all the bloody time. If it isn't covid it's recessions and A levels.

I bought a new flask. It's a 500ml Thermocafe and I love it. I take it into work and out into the garden.

I am also learning to do something called a "halo braid" in my hair. I am so bad at braiding it's unbelievable.

The cat hid a dead shrew in DH's slipper this morning.

I invite you all to top this parade of mediocrity.

I'm also thinking about what book to read next. Currently reading Gitta Sereny's book about the kommandant of Treblinka, and although it's brilliant and fascinating, it's also really really hard going for obvious reasons. Am having weird dreams about camps and SS guards and keep thinking about it all when doing other things at work. I'm going to need a Mills and Boon for afterwards, preferably one where the hero is very muscly and a bit sweaty, with longish hair and stubble plus penchant for growling and doing manly things with one hand (while other hand is up the heroine's skirt no doubt)

The sky was very blue today with oddly shaped clouds (see attached photo). What's weird is that if you turn the photo around by 180°, it looks like ice in the sea.

HaveYouSeenMyFriendKimberley · 20/08/2020 23:57

I'm planning to defrost my fridge freezer.

MasterBruceBalloon · 21/08/2020 00:00

@BloodyBollockingHell hmmm, all my family are Irish so I feel I should have Celtic toes but they're definitely Greek!

Itsacakebaby · 21/08/2020 00:26

I bought a grey coatigan yestetday - half price. I love it and now can't wait for weather to change so I can wear it!!

Happynow001 · 21/08/2020 02:58

@ssd

I made tacos for dinner tomorrow night for dh and ds. I hate tacos.

Aaahhh!! True love - right there!! 💛

Just half-an-hour ago, I accidentally discovered how to use the MN bookmark function on my iPad. I've had it about eighteen months. This may actually be rather more exciting than I first realised.

Syndactylic toes. Very boring. Of interest only to geneticists and podiatrists.

PhilCornwall1 · 21/08/2020 06:17

I painted the bathroom door yesterday. I'm going to do all the others today and the door frames.

If I get really excited the bathroom and landing ceilings could be next.

Nomorewine77 · 21/08/2020 08:04

I've just finished my third cup of tea, had granola instead of porridge today.
Dog's just been sick on the kitchen mat, why oh why can she not do it on the easily cleanable lino.
Would like to go back to sleep but have to get ready for work.
I have African toes, really wanted Celtic.

GBroGal · 21/08/2020 08:35

@ReallySpicyCurry
I must admit I sniggered at your M&B hero's penchant for "doing manly things with one hand".

WouldBeGood · 21/08/2020 08:39

I now own a strimmer.

Mummiepig · 21/08/2020 08:45

HelenaJustina · 21/08/2020 09:21

I’ve got to drop one child at the park to meet a friend and then go and get the last few bits of school uniform. Spent too much of yesterday ironing in name labels.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/08/2020 09:27

Just came back from the orthopedist - I need an operation on my toe - shit! Made a surgeon's appointment.

36°C today - probably the last hot day. I'll do nothing.

Happynow001 · 21/08/2020 09:33

@freesolo

I bought a new bread bin, I haven't had one in 2 and a half years!

Oops just saw this: great bread bin. Like the storage space on top too. I need one - care to share where you got yours from? 😁

Cocolapew · 21/08/2020 09:34

My washing machine has gone bonkers, during the spin cycle it's so loud we have to close the door and turn the TV up. I'm sure you could hear it in space.
Clothes I washed yesterday smell funny.

Happynow001 · 21/08/2020 09:47

I dropped a full litre of beetroot juice on my kitchen floor yesterday. Place looked like a crime scene! Dark red liquid spread EVERYWHERE plus also, strong sweet/earthy smell of beetroot.. 🤬

Turboshift · 21/08/2020 09:52

I have decided I want an air fryer but not sure which one to get.

hopelessbusiness · 21/08/2020 10:23

Bought a new kettle yesterday. It's shiny newness makes me happy.

The80sweregreat · 21/08/2020 10:29

Been up the ' little' Sainsbury’s for some ' bits' and still managed to spend twenty pounds.
On my second mug of tea now I'm back.
Seems the water or gas people are about again in very high vis : I've lived here over a decade now and someone digs up the roads or pavements every summer time. The pot holes are patched up and still manage come back. Traffic lights in odd places with nobody doing anything apart from standing about having a chat.
Oh, had a two minute power cut at 5.30 this morning !
It's Been a strange week.

The80sweregreat · 21/08/2020 10:34

New kettles give such joy.
They go all furred up here within weeks so make I make most of it if we splash out on a new one. Or I have to buy ' descale ' products , which is a faff.
Or just rinse it out and marvel at how big some limescale can get as it blocks up the drains.

ToadCandle · 21/08/2020 10:39

I have officially finished uniform shopping after 20 years of it.
Celebrating with 80s radio and drinking coffee.

sugarplumfairy2010 · 21/08/2020 10:39

I'm have snuggles with my 2 week old who's just fell asleep after a feed. My cup of tea is out of reach going cold! Need to nip to the shops but it's raining.

lljkk · 21/08/2020 10:51

Bastard cat woke me at 4am again (of course).
There was a soundless extremely active lightning storm. I looked it up on MetOffice radar, 65 km away. Covered a good 20% of the sky.

TheSunIsStillShining · 21/08/2020 10:57

:)
in the spirit of "The interesting life of.... "

  • Forgot my bank card and realized only when I had to pay.
  • will have to go to the greengrocers as I ordered 5 kg apricots to make jam. Seemed a good idea on Monday. Now...not so sure....
  • plan of the day: wash the towels and my son's underwear. Thrilling!
