Anyone lost this? On my backstep if it's yours!

So. Just come in through my back gate to find this on my doorstep....anyone missing a pigeon? Not your average bird, well looked after, has got ring etc but bloody thing won't let me get close enough to get details.

It's currently attacking my pots in hope of food. Am assuming due to high winds been blown off course and is knackered. I have chucked some food out on back step (randomly had some milled linseed in...once a Girl Guide, always a Girl Guide Grin) and shut in Sassycat (cos that wouldn't end well...I'd be hoovering up feathers for weeks!!!)...

So...anyone think they've lost something today? Or have suggestions of what I could do with it? Confused

It's so cute! Hope the owner finds you quickly and sassy cat isn't locked up for too long.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/06/2017 18:25

Can be caught using sweet corn. Will ask DP how he managed to trap the one we found if you want.

You can then ring someone (Pigeon Racing Association or some such, I just Googled) and contact the owner. We kept 'ours' for a couple of weeks then, as DP was driving to near where the pigeon lived, dropped him nearby and he then flew home. Owner sent me a photo!

FruBayerischOla · 05/06/2017 18:26

How about Googling 'pigeon clubs' or 'racing pigeons' (or whatever) for your area. If you can find one reasonably nearby, even if they don't own that pigeon, someone from that club might be happy to come round to your house to rescue it - and they'll probably be able to find it's owner too!

FruBayerischOla · 05/06/2017 18:27

doh .... I meant its owner - not it's owner Blush

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 18:27

It is cute and obvs used to people as it let me pretty close, just not close enough to grab it! The big poo it did on my step is not quite as cute though! Hmm Sassycat knows something is going on and is desperate to go out. She's not that old so not entirely sure she'd know what to do confronted by a pigeon but not going to take any chances!

Is there such a thing as 'I've lost My Pigeon' website???

I have a fab mental image of you running around to 'Catch That Pigeon' OP Grin

SteppingOnToes · 05/06/2017 18:31

Sadly when i found one the pigeon club advised me to give it two days then 'put it out of it's misery' as it's owner wouldn't want it back failure and it wouldn't survive in the wild :(

Scribblegirl · 05/06/2017 18:31

Sorry, meant 'stop the pigeon'!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/06/2017 18:32

Our one was meant to be flying from France to Edinburgh, but somehow got lost and ended up in the NW if Scotland. It was basically just exhausted.

We kept it in a cage in a poly tunnel for the duration. The cat was not very impressed at not being able to get closer!

Stepping - that's what they said to us when one landed at the stable. We ended up with a pet pigeon for 9 months Hmm

TimeIhadaNameChange · 05/06/2017 18:34

The owner of ours was really thrilled to get him back. Think they can be rather expensive.

FlourishandBlotts · 05/06/2017 18:34

If you catch it, you could try and fan one of its wings out. My grandad used to race pigeons and stamped a wing of all his pigeons with his details.

Frouby · 05/06/2017 18:35

I had a pigeon like that last year. No tags but dp reliably informed me it was a domestic rather than feral pigeon.

It's never left. To prevent windowsills being ruined we bought it a house that lives on top of the guinea pig cage and Kez the Pigeon is let out at 7.30am and comes down to go to bed a couple of hours before it goes dark.

And if you are late letting him in he sits on the satellite dish and knocks the signal out to get our attention.

CiliatedEpithelium · 05/06/2017 18:35

The owners often spend a fortune on them although if they are so obviously lost I guess....not. There is a hotline number if you Google and the owner will often send a courier to collect them.

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 18:37

It's pouring outside...neither me or the pigeon are impressed! Pet pigeon wouldn't work...Sassycat would either have a field day, or more likely her thug of a boyfriend (huge black Tom who she bosses around...raising my DD and my cat to be strong females) would be dining on pigeon for 24hrs.

Put it out of it's misery? Eek, no thank you!

Have you got a plastic crate you could put out on its side for it to shelter in?

debbs77 · 05/06/2017 18:39

Happened at my house once. He was just resting!

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 18:41

OMG...Frouby...am in awe of your pigeon house!

Not that I can even consider it but any name suggestions? Just for this eve obviously Grin

Lol it's not a fancy house. More a pigeon bedsit really. Just a small hutch with some straw. Kez likes it tho.

When I bring him in I will take a better photo. Have a newish phone and don't have any decent ones on here.
