Anyone lost this? On my backstep if it's yours!

So. Just come in through my back gate to find this on my doorstep....anyone missing a pigeon? Not your average bird, well looked after, has got ring etc but bloody thing won't let me get close enough to get details.

It's currently attacking my pots in hope of food. Am assuming due to high winds been blown off course and is knackered. I have chucked some food out on back step (randomly had some milled linseed in...once a Girl Guide, always a Girl Guide Grin) and shut in Sassycat (cos that wouldn't end well...I'd be hoovering up feathers for weeks!!!)...

So...anyone think they've lost something today? Or have suggestions of what I could do with it? Confused

Once he's back to full health you will have to input my data so he can fly to me. That's how they work right?

TheHobbitMum · 06/06/2017 09:48

I love Gaz, he looks fab Grin

Just settling in to wait for update from the stray pigeon site

TheWitchAndTrevor · 06/06/2017 09:50

We had one last year, easliy caught it the first time round as it was exhausted.

We fed it on mixed corn (We had chickens at the time) layers pellets and rice.

Kept it in a cat box the first night, then put the box outside with the door open. It hung around for about 4 days eating what we put out for it, but never went in the box, it roosted on the garage roof.

We got in touch with its own on the first day, who asked us to feed it and let it rest. He text us to say it has made it back, the day after it disappeared.

I was sort of sad to see it go.

SassynSane · 06/06/2017 09:56

I have no idea Royal but we could try it? Grin

Well update is Gaz has got his mojo back! He's quite feisty! Went to change his water and he kinda growled at me Shock Well ok, I admit, I did go in for a stroke Wink He's def stronger now though and looked like he'd happily make a bid for freedom but so bloody windy out there now. Am hoping if we both sit tight a bit longer someone from the rpra will get in touch...

Sassycat meanwhile is hating the enforced house arrest! Confused

SassynSane · 06/06/2017 09:58

Oh and realised got his ring number slightly wrong so just had to input all his info in again....hoping that won't delay him being reunited with his real owner ok maybe just one more day Grin

We have a regular pigeon visitor who's very tame and hangs out on our back fence or line-post. Someone up the road from us keeps them and I think he probably comes from there. He is called, for obvious reasons, Enormopidge. He just finds a sunny spot, fluffs himself up and hangs out for hours - we were worried he was poorly at first but he's been coming for two years now so there can't be much wrong with him!!

I hope Gary gets home safely. Love that you've made him Weetabix for breakfast. Grin

SassynSane · 06/06/2017 10:08

Awww Enormopidge is gorgeous spider 😍

I think Gaz has had a bit of his Weetabix. He def turned his beak up at my linseed and goji berry offering last night...honestly, some guests are so fussy!!!

Pigeon Pete from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Although he's a bit of a dickhead, so maybe not... 😆

SassynSane · 06/06/2017 10:12

PMSL EDBD! Gaz suits him now...though DD wanted a 'fast' name when she found out he's a racing pigeon...so his official full name is....Flash Gaz!!! Grin

RSPB? might be able to help, let us know, enjoying this thread, makes a change to have something lighthearted, I can tell you, I love them and seagulls! Every hose we have lived in we have 3 resident, (maybe they are the same ones, following us)

nannybeach · 06/06/2017 10:30

Never lived in a "hose" a house maybe!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/06/2017 10:32

No. Its not mine. I wish it was, though. Hes gorgeous.Grin

PoisonedPriestess · 06/06/2017 10:36

We rescued a pigeon who had come down with a bad case of "Being the cat's lunch" - we still have her 2 years later as she'll never fly again and all the organisations we've asked for help just offer to put her to sleep. She's quite a happy little thing - she eats well and barrels about doing slightly wonky somersaults.

Ours loves pearl barley and sunflower seeds. If she was eating the gravel it's because they need grit to grind down their food (no teeth you see).

Chickenagain · 06/06/2017 10:37

He needs a tree branch to perch on inside his little house. He's probably trying to perch on the edges of his bowls, that's why there is poo in them 😢Poor Gaz.

SassynSane · 06/06/2017 10:47

Right have got update from rpra...so owner is in London. I am in SW so bloody miles away. What's the etiquette here? Do I wait to hear from owners? Only got a landline so can't text or email...have sent quick email to owners of the bird who I haven't got though (input incorrect ring no.) to apologise...

Just checked chicken and he's very chilled now so not too bothered about a perch...if owner not going to sort soon might see if can fashion garden cane arrangement or something!

OP posts:
SassynSane · 06/06/2017 10:49

To clarify...I was only given a landline no. for owner...I however do have a mobile Blush

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/06/2017 11:38

Phone the owner. See what they say. Onus on them to collect. I don't know if the RPRA would have given them your number?

SassynSane · 06/06/2017 11:47

Email just said the owner would be notified and would contact me shortly....they (rpra) gave me names, addresses and numbers/email of the 2 owners (1 accidentally though owing to wrong ring no.)...ok am just going to nip to get Gaz some more food and newspaper and if not had call by time I get back will ring...

Oh...and was worrying about lack of perch...so just fashioned this! Took me 3 bloody goes to break cane into right length Confused
