Anyone lost this? On my backstep if it's yours!

So. Just come in through my back gate to find this on my doorstep....anyone missing a pigeon? Not your average bird, well looked after, has got ring etc but bloody thing won't let me get close enough to get details.

It's currently attacking my pots in hope of food. Am assuming due to high winds been blown off course and is knackered. I have chucked some food out on back step (randomly had some milled linseed in...once a Girl Guide, always a Girl Guide Grin) and shut in Sassycat (cos that wouldn't end well...I'd be hoovering up feathers for weeks!!!)...

So...anyone think they've lost something today? Or have suggestions of what I could do with it? Confused

Looks like a Gary to me.
Yep, deffo a Gaz

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 18:58

Kez is a cutie Frouby!!

I think, erm, my Gaz is a bit cerebrally challenged...it's currently eating the gravel from my flower bed and has ignored my Girl Guide offering of milled linseed, goji berries, sunflower and pumpkin seeds!! Hmm Clearly has no taste Grin

I had one land in my garden last Year-chased it and caught it-still amazed and rather pleased with myself that I managed to!
I looked on its wing and got the details of owner-rung-left message.
Pigeon was living in the cat basket in the garage whilst waiting to hear back-Cat was locked in our bedroom!
He eventually rung back and said to feed it weetabix with milk and let it go once it had got its strength back.
Hope your Pigeon gets home.
frouby that is so cute your very own pet pidge!

viques · 05/06/2017 19:00

Walter of course, after the actor Walter Pidgeon.

QueenofEsgaroth · 05/06/2017 19:01

GazPigd!

LilyLongtree · 05/06/2017 19:01

If you extend one of its wings and look underneath there should be the phone number of its owner stamped on a feather.

MVLipwig · 05/06/2017 19:02

You have to keep him as a pet of the owner doesn't want him now, no choice in the matter (the cat will learn who's the favourite Grin )

JaneEyre70 · 05/06/2017 19:02

We had one where I used to work, we contacted the Racing Pigeon association and gave them the details for its ring around its leg. The man came to get it next day, and was very impressed at the temporary home we made it out of a dog crate and blankets Grin. Just make sure it has water more than anything else.

noroomonbroom · 05/06/2017 19:03

Am sure birds it very small bits of stones to help with their digestion.
I know you have to provide budgies with grit every so often.

noroomonbroom · 05/06/2017 19:05

'eat' not ''it' Think my auto correct is cerebrally challenged

Bamaluz · 05/06/2017 19:13

Are you anywhere near Newport?

There's someone looking or one like that on the Cardiff and south wales lost and found facebook page. here

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 19:13

Have chucked some rice out the back now (according to website that's ok)...if it's still here tomorrow charlie then we'll be having Weetabix for breakfast so will share! And in awe of you catching your pidge...just eating at mo but might try again in a bit...will let you know how it goes Grin

Well it's v wet outside at mo so lots of water around but yes, will put bowl of water and bowl of food out in a bit...

It will have the owners phone number stamped on one of its flight feathers if you extend its wing and look underneath

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 05/06/2017 20:44

It's not mine! 😆

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 21:53

Ok Gaz-gate update! So thought he'd done a runner....flier?....as no longer in my garden after finished eating, so thinking alls well that ends well, hopefully enroute home...

Just take a call from my neighbour, racing pigeon was in her garden, fallen off fence into my garden...explain that's my Gaz & offer help...pic is him after I caught him and put him in temp home. He's now in cat carrier with food and water and have made him comfy and sheltered in my garden. Taken pics of rings but no info on his wings! Will add info to website on previous page and go from there...

He's lovely. Doesn't look injured. Just frightened and knackered!

Awwww bless him. He might be ok in the morning after a kip and some grub. That's what we said about Kez last year.

Here's Kez tonight in his bachelor pad. Happy to be in the warm and dry.

Jellykat · 05/06/2017 22:22

We had the same situation last summer, advised the pigeon had stopped off due to knackerdness and hunger, so we fed him for @ a week while he recuperated... then he flew away home (like Peter and Paul) and all was well Smile

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 22:23

Kez looks like a very happy boy 😊 and you are lovely to have gone to so much trouble Frouby Star

So have reported details on website (def a racing pigeon) and had msg saying they'll get back to me in next 48 hrs. Now obvs be easier all round if he's reunited with his owner but on the off chance does Kez disappear all day and always come back? Just wondering how it would work....but obviously better he goes home... Must. Not. Get. Attached. To. Someone. Else's. Pigeon!

Frouby · 05/06/2017 22:39

He always comes back. We have a Kez call and everything. My neighbours must think we are mad.

The first night we found him we stuck him in our shed with some chick crumbs (had ducklings at the time growing on ready to go the stables) and honesty expected to find a dead pidge he was so weak. I was out really early next morning so left dp to check. He was much brighter apparently so dp left shed door open while he got ready to come and meet me, checked shed briefly and assumed he had flown off.

That night I went to get duck and guinea pig food out and found a very perky pigeon sat on dps bike. Shoo'd him out and thought no more of it until next morning when I went in shed for duck food and got dive bombed by a hungry pigeon. He was hangry to be fair Grin.

Fed him on shed roof for a few days. Then we assumed if we stopped feeding him he would bugger off.

Putting the washing out became a bit of a mission. And he was roosting on either the sky dish or dds window sill. So I relented and bought his coop. He goes out first thing and comes in at night. He will also come down if we shout him in earlier if we are going to be out late but not once it's gone dark.

He spends most of his time trying to fit in with the crows and gulls we get.

And we know hes a boy because if we nod our head at him he courts us back with a lot of billing and cooing.

I did think he might disappear in spring to find a girlfriend but he hasn't so far.

Nowthereistwo · 05/06/2017 22:46

I love that you have adopted Kez and take such good care of him

SassynSane · 05/06/2017 22:50

Sounds like Kez def knows which side is bread is buttered on! Grin Loving the fact he flirts with you, hilarious.

Yes, I'm a bit nervous of finding a dead pidge in the morning. DD will be gutted! If he's ok will keep him in carrier with food and water until hear back from the folk I reported him to. Lots of cats round here (inc my own) so don't want to run the risk of letting him out if he can't fly much at the mo.

Kez call Grin
