Is anyone here on MTurk Amazon micro tasks?

AdaShelby · 08/02/2022 09:26

Never ever rely on Crisp.

They over recruit and don't care if people can't earn good money any more. Someone asked on slack once and was basically told it's only a filler job, if you don't like it tough. Plenty more wanting to join so leave if you like Confused Not sure how many would be waiting if they knew it would be to earn £3 an hour Grin

That's exactly the vibe they present... we don't care as you're easily replaceable by the huge waiting list of people. (Which is likely growing longer by the day with the cost of living going up.)

The sad thing is, I'm sure there will soon be many desperate people who will be happy to earn £3 an hour.

Is anyone here on MTurk Amazon micro tasks?

Last time I looked at them they only paid in vouchers and if you're in the UK you had to order from US (expensive shipping) but might be different now.

AppleJane · 08/02/2022 10:45

@PorpoiseWithPurpose that all sounds fantastic. Not sure I'm good enough yet. I might carry on with TranscribeMe until I've brushed up more on grammar rules etc and keep this as a goal to aim for. I'm fast at typing but keep getting muddled with comma use etc!

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 08/02/2022 11:52

No Random Crap for me either. That's the second month so maybe that's it for me.

rhij86 · 08/02/2022 12:35

oh it appears I've been selected for amur for the first time ever! is there a way for me to look through the items before starting the purchases or can I only see them as I buy them?

OP posts:
AdaShelby · 08/02/2022 13:00

@rhij86 you can only see them as you buy them, that's the fun of it, you have to decide how much to spend without blowing the budget too soon

rhij86 · 08/02/2022 13:18

@AdaShelby exciting Grin I'll sit down later and have a look

OP posts:
Redcrayons · 08/02/2022 13:28

No Amur for me, though I don’t think I filled the availability survey in.

@rhij86 I think if they showed you all the products first most people probably wouldn’t bother Grin
I hope you get something good. screenshot every screen and make a note of the ID number, URLs, prices, delivery estimates.

rhij86 · 08/02/2022 13:34

@Redcrayons thanks for the tips! _

Sadly no random crap for me this month. I would agree with what others have said about potatoes. I like the flexibility, you can work anytime you like and the minimum is quite easy to achieve. But unless it's busy when you are on then you aren't going to be making huge amounts of money. I remember there used to be someone here who could make £1k on it each month, I would think that would be very difficult now.

BecauseOfIndia · 08/02/2022 14:21

Thanks @PorpoiseWithPurpose but I was talking about the shifts, not the pay per item work, I know they recruit in large batches for that which dilutes the pool for everyone else and makes it untenable. I was just wondering if they ocasionally do the same with shift work.

@mydogisthebest and @Redcrayons I asked to go on shifts, I wasn't approached, I emailed them after about 3 months and they checked my work and then came back and said yes.

I really don't understand why they don't look after the people who have worked for them for a while. I'm super speedy and really reliable, surely it would make sense to let me have the shifts I want every week rather than having to take part in a bun fight every Friday to get them!

AncientWhitedogpoop · 08/02/2022 15:07

@AppleJane

Yes I read that about the vouchers as well - such a shame. I really want something similar to Neevo that I can dip in and out of that pays by PayPal without having to submit invoices.

AppleJane · 08/02/2022 16:50

@AncientWhitedogpoop I know what you mean. I like Neevo work, just not enough of it! Have you tried UHRS via Clickworker? I don't get on with it but it pays out via PP without invoicing.

AncientWhitedogpoop · 08/02/2022 18:14

@AppleJane
I signed up with Clickworker but not UHRS yet. Do you have to do an assessment first?

8dpwoah · 08/02/2022 18:39

@porpoisewithpurpose thanks for the info- I might actually try to improve my typing then as I do like transcription (I think I've learned something new from most files I've done, what a side benefit!) but less keen on the pay rate...

Those looking at UHRS if you're in Appen and see a project named after a phase of the moon that's a UHRS one. I found it torturous but I didn't really give it much if a chance so could be worth a look ice not done any work on it for months and I'm still active on it so maybe a nice one to have as backup for lean months?

8dpwoah · 08/02/2022 21:29

Anyone else got Appen down just now?!

I can't remember so if you do it must be easy Grin

Catatemyhomework · 08/02/2022 22:37

I got on Shos*e this month. Four products to purchase. First one was home tattoo kit from the US. The delivery and taxes was twice the cost of the product! Second was an enormous frog cake, Victoria sandwich apparently. I've had to message the seller and they haven't come back to me so it looks like it will be a skip. I've no idea what my last two products are but I don't have high expectations 😅

Mich2624 · 09/02/2022 10:55

Hi. I have started applying for projects with Appen and after some advice please. How long do you guys spend on it a week. Like how many hours? And do you mostly work on s smartphone/ tablet or PC/ laptop? I currently don't have a PC set up so wondering whether that is an issue. Thanks in advance!!

8dpwoah · 09/02/2022 11:22

Hi @mich2624 you'll find a huge range of answers relating to time here, some treat their work on this kind of thing as a full time job, others (like me) do it around their children's routines, others still (also me when I knew redundancy was coming) do the odd hour or so a day around their full time jobs. It depends on the particular platform and task but on Appen for example each project tells you how many hours for max/min. I have one that I have to do at least five hours a week but can't do more than seven, and another that is 8 min and 14 max for me at the moment. But my transcription jobs are totally up to me, all they give in terms of time expectation is a deadline.

Everything I do requires (transcription, and then on Appen) a laptop but I don't know about things like Telus, Crisp etc.

Good luck, my advice is have a look at a range of things then apply for a few and try out. The beauty of this kind of thing is that you can generally back out of anything that really doesn't work for you although if course you probably wouldn't get back into a project with them further down the line. Some leave you open indefinitely and others expect you to do a minimum per month to keep yourself active status.

Redcrayons · 09/02/2022 11:34

Any Revvers? I did my first proper task last night and got a score of 5. I’m very pleased with that as I thought I’d ballsed it up. So many speakers and proper names for things I’d never heard of.

It took me so long to do it, my hourly rate was a joke. I’m going to give it a month and see how it works out.

Redcrayons · 09/02/2022 11:44

@Mich2624 I’ve got a RL job so only spend an hour a day, and some more at the weekend. I usually make £100 per month. I could probably get to £10 per day if I put the time in, but my real job pays the mortgage so that’s the priority.

I have a laptop, I wouldn’t be able to do my regular stuff on a phone or iPad.
