Thank ravenAK for the support. only just been able to get back on this site. i still haven't received any acknowledgement from CAG nor "www.penaltycharges.co.uk" and it took me weeks to get registered with mumsnet.com. don't know what the prob is. still keep plugging away tho. thank for saying the banks letter was a fob off. thought it was but it's nice to have it confirmed. daren't do anything more till CAG or "penaltycharges" etc contact me.

i sent my letters off asking for money back a few weeks ago now and asking for response/decision within 14 days. within the 14 days i did get a letter saying thanks for letter and we are investigating and will get back to you. do i need to now write again threatening them with court action as they havent made decision within 14 days or do i wait and see what happens over next few days and see if i hear anything re offer/non offer before doing that? this is with HSBC BTW. still waiting on Barclays. their 14 days is up tomorrow and still heard nothing.

any help/advice gratefully received.

Thanks melloma - friends and family are saying to refuse it as no bank is willing to be the first in court - its just the hassle and forms to fill in........ its good to know the bank has a backlog of claims so i suppose they are going under the assumption of offering half the amounts claimed wtht he view half the claimants will accept through either needing the money and not having the hassle of wrting more letteres/ going to court etc and the stress/fear involved and do better offers for people who challenge the first offer. Think i will refuse the first offer - £1500 will make a better dent in my huge overdraft!

dh got his offer letter today from hsbc offering him full amount (minus interest). cant wait to receive mine!!!!!

I am new to this thread. Have written to Natwest and I'm still waiting for a response but in the last 6 months alone they have charged me £320.00. I went through a bad stage a few years ago and they charged me £600 once over a 2 week period so hopefully they will give it all back to me. I live on hope...

I have written to Barclays and asked for £980 + interest. Anyone have any experience of Barclays?

Lolly68 · 16/03/2007 14:49

I have written to Natwest (my branch address). Is this the right address to right to or have I got to send it to another address to claim back charges?

giddyfeet · 20/03/2007 21:49

I got a letter from Barclays today saying that that they have received my letter and will answer by 10th April at the latest. Are they likely to wait until the last minute to answer? I'm getting a bit impatient!

1980cat · 22/03/2007 20:33

I'm new to this thread, just come home tonight to find the letter offering a full refund from Bank of Scotland. Was expecting to have to at least take them to the small claims but they offered it, all £3880 of it, after only two letters. Think I have maybe spent it three time over in the last half hour.

ForeverBlowingBubbles · 23/03/2007 10:12

Am new to this thread, and haven't time to read all of it (have skimmed).

I have my account with HSBC. I have an Authorised Overdraft of £950. The total charges + interest I want to reclaim is £300. I also have a loan with them, and my DDs savers account. For £300, will they close my accounts or make me settle my overdraft/loan? I doubt if any other bank would take me with that overdraft! I haven't sent the letter off yet asking for charges back, because I daren't in case they close everything.

Advise please? According to Martin Lewis's site, the longer I leave this the less I might get, due to the OFT decision due at beginning of April.

I still have not heard anything back from Natwest after asking for my bank statements on 28 February. Do you think I should phone them?

giddyfeet · 23/03/2007 13:07

I've had credit cards from Capital One and Barclaycard in the past and I got in a horrible mess with them. On one card I ended up owing over 1000 in charges alone (only had 300 off them to spend). Debt collectors got involved and it was all paid off with a lot of struggle but I would like to claim this back if I can now. The problem is I don't have any statements with my card or account number on them - how would I go about applying in this case?

I also had a bank account with Abbey that I no longer have the details for...

(I am in the process of a claim for a Barclays bank account and am waiting to hear...they said I'd hear by 10 April at the latest...will they wait til the last hour to send me an offer?)

giddyfeet · 23/03/2007 13:08

Lolly - you have to give them 40 days to respond.

Trix11 · 27/03/2007 19:07

I should receive a response from Abbey before Friday this week (40 day threshold) re my letter requesting bank charges back. Did anyone not get a response within the 40 days?

Trix11 · 02/04/2007 11:41

Has anyone got a copy of letter 3 and do I send this when I have had no response to letter 2

snottyshoulders · 03/05/2007 11:00

helllllooooooo?? ANyone around that know about the charges process?? I've sent off letters to the Halifax to request statements but 45 days later (I've just counted the days!) I've heard nothing! Has anyone else had this problem?? Next stage please!?!
Thanks....

Biglips · 10/07/2007 10:08
