@Sophiey11 🤞🤞 for you!
@Phoenixwings1989 Good luck!
Just got home from my surgery. I had an ordeal that was nothing to do with the actual surgery.
Got there at 4pm yesterday as requested. Felt very nervous and off my food. Tried to get some sleep but it was near impossible (crunching crisps at 1am anyone?!). Then I started to feel really nauseous. By this point I was nil by mouth so asked if I could have a splash of juice as perhaps I was hungry and feeling unwell from lack of food.
HCA came back a while later to ask if it helped and as it hadn’t she could ask for anti sickness meds.
Nurse came with a tablet and an IV of fluids (worried I was dehydrated?) I lied awake waiting for it to kick in. Suddenly I felt really ill so moved to the loo, dragging my pole with only one working wheel and proceeded to have explosive D&V!
As I’d not long had the anti sickness tablet and I hadn’t actually seen it come back up hurtling at 50mph, I had to grin and bear it for the next 6 hours. I slept not a wink but did get a covid test and offer up a 💩 sample for testing.
Before she left for handover the nurse said she doubted they could do the surgery and they’d probably need to reschedule or choose a different method of treatment. I started crying, it was about 4am and just felt miserable.
However, the day shift rolled around and I waited for the news. Surgery was due 8/8.30 so by 7.50 I resigned myself to being packed home. Then the nurse came to chat about the night and I explained all the events. And she injected anti sickness meds straight in my cannula as she thought I’d definitely thrown up the tablet. Within 10 mins I felt like I could unclench every muscle. Then like buses the anaesthetist, surgeon and 2 theatre staff acting as porters arrived!
I explained again the D&V drama to the anaesthetist and she said that the surgery was extremely important and they’d work around it to get me sorted. I could have kissed her (lucky for her I refrained).
Then it was a whirlwind of signatures, getting gowned up, wheeled down and knocked out.
So, all went well, everyone’s happy and as long as I can drink, wee and eat I can go after 3 hours.
Then came the shocking twist. The 💩 test result came back and I have Norovirus! I was supposed to be quarantined but they didn’t have a side room free to put me in and instead they whisked a Doctor out of thin air to discharge me pronto.
Could have done without all the extras to be honest. (Who gets Norovirus BEFORE going to hospital?! normally catch it there! Me, that’s who 🤦♀️)
At home now eating some dry toast. Very light period pains and a bit of bleeding. Apologies for the long post and thank you lovely ladies for the amazing advice and support 💐
