Period after miscarriage

Hello, I had surgical management mid July and I'm losing the will to live waiting for my period.

I know that it can often take around 6 weeks to return but I have had very strong period cramps for the past 2 weeks and no sign of AF.

Have also had a few follow up scans which showed no issues.

My OPK results have also been wild- had a peak on 11/08 and then another almost peak on 20/08. Today they are fairly dark again. We haven't tried this month so not sure why I've done the ovulation tests, just for fun I suppose.

Does anybody have any experience similar to this??

Hey @Sdoubleyou, Thanks for checking in ☺️
Where do I start?! 🙈 the Friday the Dr said she was referring me for a scan - but not an urgent scan because I’ve not passed any large clots or been faint. But to let them know if things get worse. So Saturday the pain got really bad and I passed a large ‘mass’ (not a clot, it was hard and looked fleshy) bleeding got worse after, and still had/have cramps.
I saw the Dr today, I showed her a pic. she was concerned and said it definitely looked like tissue but couldn't be sure what. She seems to think I either passed a decidual cast or had another missed miscarriage (I was getting a positives then negative tests in August) either is possible and with the pain I’ve been in and amount of blood loss this doesn’t feel like a normal period.
The annoying thing is the EPU wont see me as I’m not pregnant, a scan could take weeks. She’s updated my referral as urgent so it’s just waiting around. I’m just at a loss 🤷🏻‍♀️
How are you doing?

Shortmamashortcycles · 11/10/2021 20:17

@Newgirl21, wow - sorry I meant to message today as I've been thinking of you. What an awful weekend!

Can the GP refer you as a gynae patient vs EPU?

Alternatively, is there any way you can go private? Do you or your partner have any health insurance via work? That way you can at least get some answers and a bit more dedicated care...

Ok I will stop giving you extra tasks and headaches - but I am so so sorry that you're having to go through this. It's crap and unfair and I'm sorry.

Newgirl21 · 11/10/2021 22:06

Thank you @Shortmamashortcycles,
It’s been a long and confusing weekend but we made the most out of it, at least I know I’m not going crazy and something isn’t quite right.
Don’t be silly, I am honestly so grateful for all of your advice.
I can’t explain how useful this thread has been for me 👍🏻

She said she could but it would be under a normal appointment and could take a few weeks for me to be seen.
We do have bupa through my husbands work but appointments are a two week wait and will be a £250 excess charge.

Shortmamashortcycles · 11/10/2021 22:53

@Newgirl21, yeah I guess the silver lining is that you have proof that your body isn't gaslighting you now! There is / was something not quite right.

How are you feeling now? Still crampy? Really hoping things ease off for you a bit!

Good that you have the option of private if you need it... Would it be possible to schedule the BUPA appointment and cancel it nearer the time if you manage to get answers via the NHS?

Newgirl21 · 11/10/2021 23:22

Yeah still pretty rough which is odd, I thought that after I passed it the cramps and bleeding would ease but that’s not the case. Hopefully things will ease in the next few days.
That’s a good idea, it’s worth looking into, I think they’d need the payment whilst booking, I think that how it worked last time we used it- il give them another call tomorrow 🤞🏻 Thank you

Sdoubleyou · 11/10/2021 23:41

@Newgirl21, I just read through the last messages and my jaw is actually agape. I'm so sorry that you're going through this! Although it's not the desired outcome, I agree that knowing it's something is better than just waiting and having your body be out of synch. I really hope they're able to find out exactly what's up. And I really hope that this means your body is healing. Maybe it's a good sign (not actually good, but you know what I mean) that your body cleared out the tissue on its own. It's so disheartening to have to wait that long for appointments. This won't help you at all, but wait time in hospitals and at clinics are atrocious here as well. Even private is a long wait. If you reserve private and cancel, will they refund you?

We're with you, all giving you virtual hugs! 💛

Newgirl21 · 12/10/2021 13:50

Thank you @Sdoubleyou,
Today the bleeding has eased but the cramping remains, I’m hoping that my body is healing.
I contacted bupa and they said after booking it would be non-refundable.
Keeping my fingers crossed the referral comes through soon 🤞🏻

Shortmamashortcycles · 12/10/2021 16:33

Mehhh stupid BUPA. 😡

So sorry to hear you're still cramping. Hot water bottles to the rescue?

Good luck getting the gynae referral, and I guess in the meantime I hope you and your body get some rest. At least you know it's trying to sort itself out!

Newgirl21 · 12/10/2021 20:19

😂 water bottle, codeine and chocolate are my new besties.
I hope everyone else’s journeys are going smoothly x

Shortmamashortcycles · 12/10/2021 20:53

Eh, pretty sure I ovulated today so now just trying to ignore everything for 2 weeks. Not expecting much as I think things are still settling, but you never know - miracles have happened!

Sdoubleyou · 13/10/2021 01:10

As predicted, I've lost my mind. I'm 10 DPO, tested this morning (I know, chastise away!) and nada, stark white (on a wondfo very sensitive). Went down the rabbit hole a little, but re-emerged with a little bit of hope. Apparently only 10% accuracy at 10 DPO and I retraced what day I had gotten my original BFP, and it was 16 DPO. I'm just gonna pretend like I'm not going crazy the next few days. DP has already been advised to expect a cocktail of emotion.
😭😎🤪

Shortmamashortcycles · 13/10/2021 06:41

@Sdoubleyou, this will be me in 10 days - I was awake at 3am stressing because I still have fertile signs and we didn't DTD. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I guess you just need to accept the cocktail is going to happen and roll with it - sending you virtual hugs!

Sdoubleyou · 13/10/2021 17:11

@Shortmamashortcycles, I hear you! I have a deal with my DP, around when I'm fertile we do it every day and then I leave him alone for at least a week, until we're both dying for it.

I'm not going to test until my period is late (if that happens), I'm going to try to keep my mind off of it. No symptoms either way. But when I got my bfp I was sure my cervix was low and that my period was coming. So symptom spotting at least isn't an issue for me.

@amyh2012, how are you? I think we're similarly timed.

amyh2012 · 13/10/2021 19:42

@Sdoubleyou @Shortmamashortcycles hey ladies!
I fell down the rabbit hole too, im 12dpo today and I lost my shit big time with testing! Im certain I'm out this month but decided I'm ok with it, it will happen when it's meant to be! Take a look at this HORRIBLE indent on my FR BEFORE I peed on the thing!!

Good luck to you both too 🤞🏼xxx

Period after miscarriage
amyh2012 · 13/10/2021 20:40

@Sdoubleyou have you had any symptoms? I've had nothing, stark whites on my internet cheapies. I'm 11dpo actually, could've sworn I was 12 😂

Sdoubleyou · 13/10/2021 20:52

@amyh2012, I had a really bad indent last month! I feel things, but nothing that would be exclusively pregnancy. It may be PMS or just the changing of seasons. The weather has been crazy. But when I was pregnant in the summer I felt nothing out of the ordinary before I tested. My symptoms only started around week 6 or so and got worse only very gradually. Even my temps are inconclusive. Rise today, but that happened last month too. So, whatever will be will be. As they say though, you're not out until AF comes, right?

Anything on your side?

amyh2012 · 13/10/2021 20:59

@Sdoubleyou absolutely, you're not out until AF arrives. It's weird isn't it, I was thinking about EVERYTHING relating to pregnancy when really I was over symptomising and then getting myself into a tizz about it and drowning myself in research and it was honestly sending round the bend. We've all been there, and it's awful but this time has been a little different, I think it's cos I know I'm not pregnant that I'm just waiting to come on.

I really hope we get a surprise! When do you plan to properly test again? I think I'll keep doing my cheapies and a FR every now and then til AF arrives 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sdoubleyou · 13/10/2021 21:41

@amyh2012, I'm really going to try to wait until Saturday if I don't get my period or spot before. But it's our anniversary tomorrow so it would be so lovely to have good news. Although, do I really want to spend the day upset if it's not good news? The eternal struggle.

amyh2012 · 13/10/2021 21:59

@Sdoubleyou oh girl, maybe just wait to be safe, 11dpo is still early don't forget! Have a wonderful anniversary and give yourself an extra day to build up more hcg to get a dye stealer when you do test 🤞🏼😘

Shortmamashortcycles · 16/10/2021 06:33

@Sdoubleyou, hope you're doing well - if testing today, then good luck!

@Newgirl21, how are things going? Have the cramps settled now? Did you manage to get an NHS referral for a scan?

amyh2012 · 16/10/2021 09:06

@Sdoubleyou how are you doing?
I'm really confused now, I have been testing and got BFN consistently, also I'm on CD41, confirmed ovulation late and I'm 100% 13DPO. Just been to the loo and found really dark brown spotting when I wipe. I had real period like pain the last few days and wondering is it my period or did I implant real real late. I didn't have any implantation bleeding last time 🤷🏼‍♀️ I guess I have to wait a few days and test again or wait for my period to kick in full force 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
@Newgirl21 how are you doing?

amyh2012 · 16/10/2021 12:25

Spoke too soon, AF arrived 🥺

Sdoubleyou · 16/10/2021 14:00

I cracked and tested on Thursday. Stark white. At least it allowed me to have my pity party early instead of ruining the weekend. Tequila and McDonalds, that set me right up :)

On another note, it feels a little like the universe is playing a cruel joke on me. We got pregnant quite quickly and were overjoyed, then it was taken away as quickly. It's been three months since the MC and it's hard to be back at square one when we had been the lucky ones. Trying not to lose faith though and keep in perspective that others have it worse. I'm 36 though, so there is less sand in the hour glass!

amyh2012 · 16/10/2021 14:14

@Sdoubleyou I'm sorry you didn't get your bfp. You have to be thankful for knowing that you can get pregnant. We are lucky to be able to and that's half the battle. Keep positive and keep doing what you're doing and hopefully it'll happen soon.

I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to be pregnant again straight away and I don't think it does us any favours whatsoever. I hindsight we're probably still recovering from the miscarriage, mentally and physically.

Let's gather ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get back on track for another rollercoaster of emotion next cycle ❤️

Sdoubleyou · 16/10/2021 14:24

@amyh2012, thank you, that's some solid advice and encouraging words. Sorry it wasn't your month either. I think you're right, the body probably still isn't ready, so I'm trying to keep positive and keep healthy. I booked a little weekend away for DP and I the next time I'm ovulating. Fingers crossed!
