Is anyone interested in a huge mumsnet christmas party/meet up?

OK, thought I'd bite the bullet and start this thread as we were talking about the possibility on the "we're great, we are" thread

Is anyone interested in a christmas meet up? I know it's early but you know how time has a habit of flying by... I'm happy to organise if so. You can post here or email me at [email protected] I'm thinking probably London or just outside London as the place and the venue depends on how many want to come. Like batey's idea of a 70s/80s theme...

Did everyone have a good time? How are the hangovers?

Bobbins · 01/12/2002 05:57

I can already tell that all you retrobates had an excellent time. I expect you'll all surface later with sore heads. So sorry I missed it. What am I doing up at 6am?

i want details of the night....give me words!

tigermoth · 01/12/2002 08:33

a few quick words here - great to see old and new faces - not so sure about the 10 minutes of live music, still at least the musicians left when paid - thanks for the beyblade lookalikes wickedwaterwitch and to you and ks thanks a lot for organising it. bayleaf and custardo, hope you have a good journey home today, and the same to everyone else who had/has a distance to travel, willow, sorry to hear you were in hospital. I left at 11.30 and saw a group of you looking longingly at the dance floor - it does not surprise me that some ventured on - you brave people!

Also hope the photos come out fine - but not so fine that I'm clearly recognisable.

Marina · 01/12/2002 08:58

Agree with Tigermoth, had such a good time. It was so nice to meet people I felt I already "knew" in the flesh...I left before the dancing got underway as well, but unfortunately not before SW7's answer to the Gypsy Kings "serenaded" us all. The theory on our table that these men were our dps in disguise, sent to sabotage the evening, was a plausible one I think. That big hat could have been hiding any of them.
And it's not often you get the chance to eat in a restaurant previously patronised by Princess Di.
I thought the food was really good too, a huge thanks to www and ks for organising it.
Only downside - you NEVER get enough time to chat enough with all the people you want to catch up with. We need another one, in January!

bossykate · 01/12/2002 09:01

www and ks thanks so much for organising the party last night. it was excellent! wonderful to meet up with people again and others for the first time. can't remember the last time i danced (well don't know if you could call it that really!) - it was loads of fun.

yes i have got a rather sore head this morning!

hope all the other reprobates got home ok and aren't feeling too awful!

thanks again

Twink · 01/12/2002 09:35

Yes, thankyou both of you. ks you must let me know if I owe you anymore now you know the final bill.

Had a lovely time despite having to leave so early (and the photographer, thought he'd never go, oh and those musician blokes from the Fast Show !) and eventually made it home just after 1am (Will be starting new thread about Thames Bl*dy Trains !) With hindsight Scummy's floor would have been far preferable to the trip home !

Wills hope you made it back OK and your migraine is over quickly. Willow, hope you're OK too and out of hospital.

Oops

Scatterbrain · 01/12/2002 11:16

I'm so jealous !! No spots yet and feel fine too !

Was thinking of you all - wondered if everyone wore black ? I would have almost certainly ! Can't wait to see the article - Justine - will you be able to tell us when it's coming out so we can buy a copy that day ?

Definitely must be repeated soon - anyone fancy a daytime meet-up in London with the kids ? is there somewhere child friendly that could handle a deluge of us ?

Azure · 01/12/2002 11:16

Thanks to everyone for a great evening. I also left before the dancing because I have to work today, so I'm glad to hear some brave souls ventured onto the dancefloor. My main regret is not chatting to more people.

Wills · 01/12/2002 11:29

Hi to all,

Was having a fabulous evening and it was really great to meet everyone. Thanks to KS and WWW for organising it. I'm so sorry for leaving early but I'm glad I went when I did as it was an awful journey home and I've only just emerged from my bed. Bummer timing! Oh well not sure my head would have stood up to the serenades.

prufrock · 01/12/2002 11:34

My head hurts , but my calves are even worse. Must remember not to dance in killer heels next time. Thank you so much to www and ks.

Well I've JUST got home - and I'm not too much of a fan of Midland Mainline so we'll have to swap train horror stories at the next one Twink!

Was a brill night - Thanks so much WWW and ks ( and really great to meet you both. Can't believe I was so terrified on Friday and nearly bottled out - really really nice to talk to people in real life - and count me in for the next one! ( tho in some ways midday would be good as having to stay over in London wasn't great)
Simon Howard - if you're out there can you confirm or deny that you were the bloke in the white shirt!

Didn't feel too bad at all this morning - more dancing means less drinking! Really enjoyed meeting everyone, sorry I didn't get the chance to chat to everyone though. ks - the German in the white shirt thankfully diappeared! Thanks to you and www for organising it and sorting out the very complicated bill.
I picked up someone's black tassled scarf that was left at the end - whose is it?

sis · 01/12/2002 14:24

Just to add my thanks to ks and www for organising a great evening - had a fab time, everyone I spoke to was so friendly (I live in fear of meeting frosty people at parties!). Sorry to have left before the dancing got underway.

Sorry you had to leave early Wills and I hope willow2 gets better soon.

thumper · 01/12/2002 16:19

Thanks to WWW and KS for organising last night. Had a great time meeting everyone. Enjoyed the dancing too, its so long since I 've had a boogie (probably showed!). Everything been a bit slow today, but just about recovered.

willow2 · 01/12/2002 16:32

well you all seem to have had a brilliant evening and I am dead jealous! I got out of hospital yesterday afternoon after being given the all clear. I'd gone to A&E on gp's advice the night before with bad abdominal pain and ended up being kept in for them to keep an eye on me (I've had quite a few gynae probs in the past so think they were concerned I was at it again.) I felt fine by the next morning but they had to run some tests etc before they'd let me go home. Anyway, whatever they were looking for they didn't find it so they let me go - but was just too shattered to contemplate anything other than my bed. Bloody awful timing is all I can say - but glad you all had a good one.

Tortington · 01/12/2002 18:04

big thanks to the organisers, it was a great evening , got very very drunk and met loads of people - who actually i cant remember! have just read the messages and kept thinking " now which one was she?"! well with germans with flourescent shoulder pads and a german man in his girlfriends army top, the gypsy kings, great food, music i had heard of, handbags in the middle, plenty of wine and great company it was bound to be a great night. hope we do it again very soon

grommit · 01/12/2002 18:51

sounds like you had fun - did you all use your mumsnet names or real names?? Just wondered...
