OK, thought I'd bite the bullet and start this thread as we were talking about the possibility on the "we're great, we are" thread

Is anyone interested in a christmas meet up? I know it's early but you know how time has a habit of flying by... I'm happy to organise if so. You can post here or email me at [email protected] I'm thinking probably London or just outside London as the place and the venue depends on how many want to come. Like batey's idea of a 70s/80s theme...

I'd definately like to come.

mollymay · 28/08/2002 15:06

I'd be interested too.

Willow2 · 28/08/2002 23:11

Top idea

IDismyname · 29/08/2002 17:44

Give me plenty of warning, and count me in. Saturdays are difficult, but Sundays OK

Please don't choose 7 December

Fionn · 29/08/2002 19:04

Sounds great WWW. Do you mean a 70s/80s club or a pub/meal?

Where is everyone thinking of? It will be very difficult for me to get anywhere south of London, even London itself is pushing it a bit with the trains being as they are.

bayleaf · 02/09/2002 18:37

Ditto Rhubarb's comment - I'd love to come - but it really needs to be north London to make it practicable.

Rhubarb · 03/09/2002 15:40

Well Birmingham is centre of the country, how about holding it there? At least then we are all more or less equally placed to get there.

bayleaf · 03/09/2002 21:12

Yes ( obviously good for me being a midlander) BUT my impression is that numerically there are far more south east mumsnetters than elsewhere - and London is at least easy to get to by train...

WideWebWitch · 03/09/2002 21:25

Rhubarb, and all mumsnetters who aren't in the SE (myself included, I'm in Devon), I just thought there might be a better turnout if it was London since it is the centre of the universe, if not the country (JOKE!)... any suggestions for venues anyone? Looks like about 25 of us so far so maybe a big restaurant? Pub?

www - where are we in terms of 70s/80s theme? have been holding off on this pending getting a better feel for what form that might take.

Willow2 · 04/09/2002 10:58

I know I'm a Londoner, albeit a SW one - but if the venue is to be London based surely it should be as central as possible so that anyone travelling long distances doesn't have too far to go from the station they come in to? Also, because venues get so busy with work parties etc, think we should aim for early December.

Barca · 04/09/2002 12:46

Count me in. Don't mind where. Early December preferred as no. 3 due on Xmas Eve!

If it is a fancy dress - are we all going to travel on the trains in our costumes???

bunny2 · 04/09/2002 17:59

Count me in if I am back in the UK. We live in Spain and last year I got very homesick for a typical British Xmas party. This year I think we may be living back in England and I am going to as many parties as I can! Do we bring men or are they banned?

Ailsa · 04/09/2002 22:37

count me in too, I love a good party!!

Willow2 · 04/09/2002 23:25

Maybe fancy dress isn't the greatest idea if people are having to cross the country to get to the party!

SueDonim · 05/09/2002 06:53

Crossing the country, Willow2??? I'll be crossing the world, from Indonesia!!

Willow2 · 05/09/2002 21:56

SD - you are officially exempt from fancydress then!

SueDonim · 06/09/2002 06:47

LOL, Willow2, thank you. Of course, it might blow my cover if I'm the only one not dressed up as a pantomime dame or half a horse or Little Bo Peep!!

Willow2 · 06/09/2002 09:58

SD - on your own head be it! But a word of advice, for your own sake don't come as Zorro, The Lone Ranger, a Three Musketeer, Zelda, Moses or anyone else that requires donning an outfit that could have you held without charge by airport security! Even a fairy could prove difficult as no doubt the wand could be deemed a potentially dangerous item.
