My keto accountability thread feel free to join in.

Start weight was 10 stone 1

Im 5 foot 2 and narrow build so doesn't sound massive but looks big on me and all my clothes are tight.

Goal weight is 9 stone 5

Started on Thursday 9th March

I've done keto before but I'm trying to be really strict with keeping carbs under 20g.
Im so far down 3 lbs and jeans I tried on Friday already feel better today

Weight today 9 stone 12

Want to get to 9 stone 7 by 13th April

Pinkest 45-48 carbs is low, keto seems to be 20g, but everybody is different. I have heard of some people in ketosis at 50g, others have to be as low as 20g. I can go up to about 25-30g, but my weight-loss stalls/ slows down if I go over that. It's all about finding your sweet spot.
My goal isn't necessarily ketosis, it's the fat burning for fuel, instead of carbs or protein.
Someone else may have more insight than me though!
yummymummy I have heard good things about low carb while pregnant. I believe only good can come from cutting out sugar and the white carbs for sure. Congratulations!

BakerLea · 01/06/2023 17:38

Update if anyone comes across the thread and is wondering the outcome
I'm 9 stone 7
Almost been 3 month into this.

Thought my loss would have been quicker that it has been but I'm at a happy weight just now and clothes feeling much better and I'm so much less bloated now!! Ive just ordered some lovely summer dresses.
My body love this low carb diet, I'm regular (was always on laxatives before) my skin is clear (previously very bad acne and red bumps around nose) not had thrush in months and I used to be every few weeks. Also clothes fit better and I feel good, sleep well. I was getting sharp chest pains now and again, they are gone. Shows how bad sugar was for me.

Hows everyone else doing?

Hi @BakerLea I am exactly the same as you. Was 10.3 (now 10) at 5ft 2 and aiming for 9stone 7. Have lost 3lbs in first week. Can't get to 20g carbs but am sticking at under 50. I struggle with wine at weekends due to socialising! Calories are working out at about 1,200. Any tips v welcome

BigBoysDontCry · 01/06/2023 20:15

Well done @BakerLea! I'm on week 10. Now weighing 10'6 so 1st 6lbs lost in just over 9 weeks. I'm still struggling with the food to be honest, blood sugar up and down so really need to get to the bottom of that. But agree re no bloating, my tummy has gone, skin clear etc. Just not really having an appetite and lacking variety which is my own self imposed food icks rather than the diet per se.

I don't really want to lose any more weight, BMI now under 21, so I'll need to find a way of getting more food eaten.

pinkrocker · 15/06/2023 22:57

Hello, can I join you please?
I was a 6ft size 12 in 2004! now I'm a 5'10" size 16 and unhappy.
6 weeks ago, I cut out carbs as much as possible, my bloating and wind has gone down a lot, but my weight has not dropped. I run 5k 3 x a week and sweat a lot!
What I don't understand is the last time I did low-carb (20 years ago pre kids!) it worked so well and so quickly!
I've got the carb manager app, do you think I need to change diet to be keto rather than low-carb? Do I need keto strips?

declutteringmymind · 16/06/2023 07:58

Hi all. Sorry I've not been posting. I'm 9stone 12. Slow progress but hopefully I've gained some good habits. The nutritional value of my food has improved immeasurably and I'm feeling the benefits which is why I've stuck with it so long.

As long as your going downwards!

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 16/06/2023 13:57

Hi everyone! I haven’t read the whole thread, but think this is the group I am looking for! I have been low carb/keto (I’m not counting carbs but my brother is a type 1 diabetic so I have used his keto sticks a bit and can see I am in ketosis) for 11 weeks now, have lost 24lb, and am 2lb off a healthy BMI. Did it once before about 10yrs ago and lost weight but then got pregnant, since then have done it a few times but never clicked into it, this time felt really different. Anyway all that is great, feel so much better, bp gone down etc, now I think I need some accountability to keep me on track! (As starting to think ohhh maybe a bag of chips on the beach would be ok .. and I know what happens then!)

bippityboppity87 · 20/06/2023 14:17

Hi folks, just started low carb again

Managed to lose half a stone in 5 days! Buzzing. I know that's normal and most likely the water weight, but it's a huge boost to keep going

Currently 17st on the dot

BakerLea · 25/06/2023 07:50

Hi everyone
I've not posted since 1st June.
This month I've followed low carb about 85%

Ive had some cheat days and the pattern usually emerges that I'll be up at 10 stone, 2 days after the cheat day, I'll have about 3 days of being irregular and Constipated and then by day 6 I'm back to 9 stone 7 and regular. So I know my price if I want a cheat!!

LaSelkie because this is a new lifestyle for me I don't tend to calorie count and I still drink alcohol (dry white with diet lemonade, vodka diet coke, pink gin and soda etc)
So for that reason my weight has come off at a snails pace, but it's manageable and I've never felt deprived of anything.

BigBoysDontCry that's a great achievement well done. I think for me the other factors were more enjoyable than the actual weight loss, especially the clear skin, I've been in tears over my skin earlier this year!

Pink rocker how are you getting on so far? Has your weight not moved still? I was up and down the same 2 pounds for the first 2 months!! Its frustrating but I found looking back at old photos I could see I'd definitely lost inches.
I think keto is very restricting so I can manage a few days, low Carb is much more manageable I think long term.

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast and bippityboppity87 How's it going for you?

declutteringmymind same as me very slow progress but it's sticking which is the main thing. Much rather loose 4 pounds in 3 months and keep it off than loose loads and yoyo back and forth

Great update OP. Other than the fact I'm still losing weight (now 9'12) things still the same for me. Still struggling with the food, I've tried adding in a little more carbs but my blood sugar doesn't like it.

I'd like to put about half a stone back on which is a weird position to be in.

Just waiting on GP appointment and some tests.

Clothes are falling off me, bought some new jeans, size 12, and 2 weeks later they are too big.

Good luck to all.

Cherryana · 29/06/2023 04:08

Hello everyone,

Well done on all your losses and updates.

Hope the tests come back soon for you @BigBoysDontCry

I went off and had a hip replacement six weeks ago and dieting was relegated for me to nowhere as I had no head space for it.

Being off work has made eating much easier and I am not keto anymore but eating gluten and dairy free and I have lost 5lb. Now I am 9 stone 5.

Which is amazing- I also think not being inflamed and in terrible pain has helped. Also I can walk again which is my exercise now.

Just need to sort out my sleep …

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 29/06/2023 09:18

@BigBoysDontCry just reading your posts, have you been diagnosed with diabetes? if you are losing weight rapidly it could be type1, I’m assuming the doctors will have it all under control but they often think type2 when you are older .. and I know lots of people in their 40’s who have just developed type1 (our diabetes team think it’s a covid thing). I hope you are feeling ok

BigBoysDontCry · 26/07/2023 20:17

Everyone has gone very quiet, hope everyone is well.

News from me is that I'm now 9'3. I've been to the GP and ended up getting sent to hospital due to my heart rate being high.

Long story short is that my ecg was fine, they gave me fluids and decided that I was dehydrated. Whilst there the ran lots of tests and the diabetic consultant took a look and was a bit puzzled to be fair as I neither fit the criteria for type 1 or 2 diabetes. My hbac1 (or whatever it is) is in the normal range. My ketones were indicating ketosis which makes sense.

My main issue is still struggling to eat so continued weight loss is undoubtedly due to that rather than diabetes.

So upshot of it is that I've to keep a diary of food eaten/blood glucose and ketone readings and to stress test by eating some more carbs.

Be nice to hear how everyone is getting on.

declutteringmymind · 27/07/2023 20:54

@BigBoysDontCry hope you get to the bottom of your loss of appetite and erratic blood glucose. Try and get as much nutrition as you can.

I'm off the wagon. On an all inclusive at the moment but to be fair I've been as good as possible without being strict about it. Life really is too short. I've not had too many empty calories apart from one or two drinks in the evening.

Also feeling PMS symptoms so my belly is bloated too

I'll let you know the damage when I get back home.

BigBoysDontCry · 27/07/2023 22:31

Oh definitely enjoy your holiday, life is indeed too short!

A bit further update today in that their main priority is to get my ketones down. I was 2.9 yesterday and over 3 you should go straight to a&e! So upshot is that I've to forget about blood sugar for the moment and try to have carbs with every meal. Ketones were down to 2.1 this morning so that's good, I think. They don't want me to test my glucose at all if I can help it to try to reduce my anxiety around food.

They basically have no idea if my insulin is working or not and want me to get to 100 to 150g carbs a day. I've probably been under 10 so it's a big ask. Had some noodles with dinner and probably ate more than normal in general but I don't think my system is enjoying it yet.

Seeing a dietitian next week hopefully this will help.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Aurea · 10/08/2023 22:13

Just found this keto non UPF bread.

It's actually quite yummy (but v expensive)

www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/dillon-organic-original-flax-keto-bread-60061754

LaSelkie · 11/08/2023 07:24

I make a "bread" by mixing a pinch of baking powder, 40g flaxseed, 1 egg, dash of sea salt, dash of water and microwave for 2.5 minutes. Turn out, slice. Makes 4 little slices. Slather with butter. I often toast it too as that gives it a bit more stiffness!

LaSelkie · 11/08/2023 07:24

I do this in a mug, I should say

BigBoysDontCry · 18/08/2023 15:19

Very quiet on here so hope everyone is well.

I'm not really doing keto anymore so probably won't post much more.

My weight has sort of stabilised at just over 9 stone. They still aren't clear on a diagnosis and I'm continuing to be tested. I've been trying to up my calorie intake and I've to have some carbs with every meal. I still have very little appetite and lots of foods make me nauseated so I'm essentially still low carb, they would like me to be at 150g a day, I think I manage about the 70g mark. It's basically confirmed to me that my previous diet in general wasn't high carb on a day to day basis. Haven't been testing my blood glucose in an effort to ease the anxiety around food.

It will be good to get an answer but I think that will be months away still.

BakerLea · 18/08/2023 16:06

Hi everyone
I’ve kind of kept low carb as a general rule these days. Actually trying for a baby now which had changed in past few months!
low carb better works best for me rather than Keto.
I do still have chocolate as I love it so much! Try and avoid most of the week then have a wee treat night here and there.

Ps planning on continuing keto even if I do conceive, just watched The Magic Pill on Amazon and I recommend it! It will change your thoughts on sugar and carbs

LostaraYil · 07/01/2024 07:44

Well done, 9 stone 10 after Christmas is fantastic! I am trying to get back into it after finally finishing all the Christmas chocolate, but haven't dared to step on the scales yet. Holiday plans are great motivation as well. I'm aiming to get to around 60kg by May as i have a dress i want to wear to a wedding, but will need to come up with an intermediate target for about March. Keto is the way forward though! I've been following Eddie Abbew in insta, great for motivation to give up the sugary s**t.
